MEMBERSHIP COVENANT
( T U R N I N)
Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and being in agreement with the values and ideas presented in the LIFE Class, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the Rock Church family. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to do the following:
I COMMIT TO LOVING RELATIONSHIPS IN THE CHURCH: • • •
By growing in a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. By acting in grace toward other members. By following the leadership of Pastor Miles McPherson and the pastoral team.
“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.” (Romans 14:19 ESV)
I COMMIT TO IMPACTING MINISTRY: • • •
By discovering my gifts and talents. By being equipped and qualified to serve within my God-given DESIGN. By developing a servant’s heart.
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter 4:10 NKJV)
I COMMIT TO LIVING LIFE OF FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP: • • •
By serving God with my time, talent and treasure. By obeying God with a servant’s heart. By giving generously according to the scriptures.
“On every Lord’s Day each of you should put aside something from what you have earned during the week, and use it for this offering. The amount depends on how much the Lord has helped you earn. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once.” (1 Corinthians 16:2 LB)
I COMMIT TO EVANGELIZING THE LOST: • • •
By regularly sharing my faith and inviting the unchurched to know God and attend Rock Church. By warmly welcoming those who visit Rock Church. By praying for the growth of Rock Church.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV)
I COMMIT TO UPHOLD THE FOLLOWING FUNDAMENTALS OF THE FAITH: •The Bible: I believe that the Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and completely truthful in all it affirms • God: I believe in one God, creator of all things, who has revealed Himself in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. • Jesus Christ: I believe that in Christ dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, that He was very God and very Man, and that He is our savior, the one perfect mediator between God and humanity. • The Holy Spirit: I believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is being manifested in the Church through the fruit of the Spirit. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are operative in the Church today in order for the Church to experience the fullness of God and are imparted by the Holy Spirit. • Christ’s Resurrection and Immanent Return: I believe in Jesus Christ’s sinless life, miracles, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection and His ascension into Heaven. He will return in power and glory to judge all people. • Justification: I believe that repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ results in justification whereby the believer, through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ, is accounted as righteous and made free from the guilt and the penalty of their sins.

TEAM MEMBER HONOR CODE
( P E R S O N A L C O P Y)
“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing stead fastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.” (Romans 12:9-11 NKJV) As an essential part of the Rock Church family, you have a responsibility to develop and exhibit mature Christian behavior. This should be the basic premise of your desire to participate in a servant-leader position here at Rock Church. While serving the Body of Christ at Rock Church, you pledge to present a good appearance at all times. In both attire and behavior, you should strive to demonstrate biblical standards in all situations. As Christians, the way we present ourselves to others is of vital importance to the way others perceive Christ. Our conduct should never be an embarrassment to Christ, but should exemplify the best qualities of a mature believer and servant-leader. Exemplifying the highest moral commitment, Rock Church Team Members are to maintain a disciplined life of Bible reading, prayer, and fasting. You must also refrain from such things as:
PROFANITY “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29 NIV) “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters; You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” (James 1:19 NLT)
ILLEGAL GAMBLING “Wealth from gambling quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows.” (Proverbs 13:11 LB) “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:9-10 NKJV)
DISHONEST GAIN “The people of the land have used oppressions, committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy; and they wrongfully oppress the stranger… Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord GOD.” (Ezekiel 22:29-31 NKJV)
ILLEGAL DRUGS “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV) “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-20 NLT)
PORNOGRAPHY “But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28 NKJV)
SEXUAL IMMORALITY “ Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18 NIV)
INDULGING IN ‘MUCH WINE’ OR OTHER ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: DRUNKENNESS “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18 NIV) “What sorrow for those who get up early in the morning looking for a drink of alcohol and spend long evenings drinking wine to make themselves flaming drunk.” (Isaiah 5:11 NLT)
ALL BEHAVIORS WHICH MIGHT CAUSE CHRIST TO GRIEVE AND OTHERS TO STUMBLE “But when you follow your own wrong inclinations, your lives will produce these evil results: impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, spiritism (that is, encouraging the activity of demons), hatred and fighting, jealousy and anger, constant effort to get the best for yourself, complaints and criticisms, the feeling that everyone else is wrong except those in your own little group—and there will be wrong doctrine, 21 envy, murder, drunkenness, wild parties, and all that sort of thing. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21) “Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.” (1 Timothy 3:2-3 NIV)
By providing an example in speech and action, we encourage others to grow in Christ and become servants-leaders themselves. This is a way of life measured by the heart and commitment of each Team Member in the Rock Church family. We should regard it as an essential part of our development, not as an obligation or restriction.

OUR STORY
PERVASIVE HOPE The Mission of Rock Church: SAVE – EQUIP – SEND
The Vision of Rock Church:
God has guided Rock Church through major milestones and miracles in its short history. What began in an SDSU auditorium in February 2000 has grown into an army of soul winners around San Diego and the world. We are ONE church with MANY locations. We currently have ____ different campuses located at: __________________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Our goal is to have a multisite campus in every major neighborhood in San Diego with hundreds of active Groups and ministries committed to bringing the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ to all the world in fulfillment of the Great Commission – “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV) We are excited to see how God will continue to use the people of Rock Church to impact San Diego and beyond.

MISSION
28
LIVIN’ THE LIFE As part of God’s family we are enabled by God’s grace to fulfill our ultimate purpose.
God created me for His __________________ and ______________________. “You created everything, and it is for Your pleasure that they exist and were created.” (Revelation 4:11 NLT) “For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation.” (Psalm 149:4 ESV) “Long before He laid down earth’s foundations, He had us in mind, had settled upon us as the focus of His love.” (Eph.1:4 MSG) “For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by His power, and everything is for His glory. To Him be glory evermore.” (Romans 11:36 LB)
God saved me to be a part of His ___________________. “[God’s] unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave Him great pleasure.” (Ephesians 1:5 NLT) “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” (Romans 8:14-17 NKJV)
God created me to become like __________________. “From the very beginning God decided that those who came to Him—and all along He knew who would—should become like His Son.” (Romans 8:29 TLB) “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV) “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” (Philippians 3:20-21 NIV)
God has empowered me to _____________God. “If you love Me, obey My commandments.” (John 14:15 NLT) “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:3 NKJV)
God has equipped and gifted me to _________________________ and _______________________ God and others. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV) “‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” (Matthew 22:36-40 NIV)
God has entrusted me to share the ____________________ ___________________. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 ESV) “Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God’s good news to one and all.” (Mark 16:15 MSG)
29
LIFE TOGETHER APPLICATION: Who are the people currently in your life who would help you in a time of crisis?
God designed us to reflect Him in ______________________________________. “‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.’” (Genesis 1:26 NKJV) “And the LORD God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone.’” (Genesis 2:18 NKJV)
God ___________________________________our lives in the context of encouraging and accountable relationships. “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV) “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” (Hebrews 3:12-13 NIV)
God’s purpose for the Church is to experience life together within a loving _____________________________________. “And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:44-47 ESV) “Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.” (Acts 5:42 NIV) “You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.” (Acts 20:20 NKJV)
Biblical community is a life of ___________________________ ___________________________. “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.” (Romans 12:10-13 NKJV) “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.” (Romans 13:8 ESV) (Also Romans 12:16, 14:13, 19, 15:5, 7, 14; 1 Corinthians 12:25; Galatians 5:13, 6:2; Ephesians 4:1-2, 32, 5:18-21; Colossians 3:9, 12-16; 1 Thessalonians 3:12, 4:18; Hebrews 3:13, 10:23-25; James 4:11, 5:9, 16; 1 Peter 1:22, 4:9, 5:5; 1 John 3:11, 23, 4:7-12; 2 John 1:5)

WHAT WE BELIEVE TOGETHER We believe in what is termed “The Apostles’ Creed” as embodying all the fundamental doctrines of orthodox evangelical Christianity. In addition to the fundamental doctrines of the faith we realize that there are of a number of variant nuances of interpretation and denominational emphases that polarize the Body of Christ toward diverse positions. As a nondenominational ministry, Rock Church is intentional in teaching the core doctrines of the Christian faith without fixating on discordant beliefs. In this regard we affirm the general statement as originated in the early church by St. Augustine, “In essentials, Unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.” We draw upon our Statement of Faith and Christian Conduct for guidance in interpreting particular matters scripturally and with spiritual wisdom.
To review and download Rock Church’s “Statement of Faith” go to: WWW.SDROCK.COM/BELIEFS
MY COMMITMENT TO BE A MEMBER – Group Engagement The Bible teaches that God entered into a __________________________________________ with His people of faith. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3 NIV) “I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God.” (Exodus 6:7 NKJV)
Within God’s covenant we are enabled by grace to keep His greatest ________________________________________. “And so I am giving a new commandment to you now—love each other just as much as I love you. Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35 TLV)
God’s commandments are to be lived out within His faithful ________________________________________________. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.” (Romans 12:1-5 NKJV) “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body… all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-14 ESV)
The result is that God’s community will fulfill together His great _____________________________________________. “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NIV)

GET TO KNOW YOUR GIFTS SPIRITUAL GIFTS refer to what God has__________________________________ empowered you to do in life. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: (1 Corinthians 12:1 NKJV)
SPIRITUAL GIFTS ARE NOT 1. Natural Aptitudes, Strengths, or Abilities. We all have natural abilities that we’ve learned from those around us regardless of Christian faith. Many times our natural abilities and strengths are redeemed by the Lord to become spiritual gifts. 2. Character Traits We are all called to have character and our gifts should produce the nature of Jesus Christ in each person. A person should not say he has the gift of peace when we are all encouraged to develop that characteristic. Spiritual gifts offer opportunities for us to exemplify Christ. 3. Titles or Positions Spiritual gifts often lead to titles or positions, but a person may have the gift without the role or the role without the gift. Regardless, we should serve whenever we are given the opportunity. Working in the area of your gifting will allow you to be the person that God has called you to be rather than just doing good things. 4. For Show Spiritual gifts are endowments given by God to His people for accomplishing His purpose on the earth. Spiritual gifts are given for the glory of God.
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts‌try to excel in gifts that build up the church (1 Corinthians 14:1-12 NIV)
HOW DO I RECEIVE SPIRITUAL GIFTS? A. Accept Jesus Christ as Lord of your life. B. Believe that God has given you spiritual gifts. C. Commit to learning about spiritual gifts. D. Diligently ask for the Lord to give you spiritual gifts.

Maturity is a whole emotional life that has grown out of a fully developed understanding of who you are as a child of God, created in His image. • It is the shalom of the Old Testament. • It is the freedom that is experienced from knowing the truth (John 8:32). • It is the fruit of the Spirit in your life (Gal. 5:22). • It is love abounding in knowledge and all discernment (Phil. 1:9). • It is the joy inexpressible and full of glory (1 Peter 1:8). • It is the peace of God that surpasses understanding (Phil. 4:6-7).

MOVING TOWARDS MATURITY EMOTIONAL MATURITY is dynamic, not _______________! This means that you can improve and grow in your emotional maturity. But you need to have a strategy for improving. Emotional intelligence does not improve over night. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete (mature), thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV) “Solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:14 NASB) “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete (mature), lacking nothing.” (James 1:4 NKJV) “But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:20-24 NKJV)
1. Learn Christ: Self-awareness comes from ______________________ - ________________________. • Emotional Awareness (Proverbs 2:2) • Accurate Self-Assessment (1 Corinthians 11:31) • “In Christ” Confidence (2 Corinthians 3:4) 2. Put off the old man: Self-regulation comes through the Holy Spirit’s ____________________________. • Self-Control (Galatians 5:23) • Conscientiousness (Galatians 5:22) 3. Be renewed in the spirit of your mind: God changes our _____________________ from self-gratification to God–glorification. • Desire for true servanthood (Matthew 20:26). • Commitment • Initiative and Optimism (Philippians 4:8) 4. Put on the ____________
____________ :
• Develop our social awareness (other’s centered approach) and relational management (other’s service approach) • Empathy develops as we start loving people more than ourselves • Developing Others • Service Orientation • Social skills increase as we mature spiritually • Communication • Conflict Management • Collaboration and Cooperation
48
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. +++ 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

You will now take an Inclinations Assessment. Using the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 RANK the following statements by what best describes you. 1 representing what least describes you and 4 being what most describes you. Place numbers by rank in the white box USING EACH NUMBER ONLY ONCE PER QUESTION, then move on to the next question and repeat the process. Remember, this is designed to assess your inclinations – there are no right or wrong answers.

Jesus gave each of us a role in order to help everyone __________________and __________________. • Jesus wants us to grow in our faith. • Jesus wants us to grow in our knowledge of Him. • Jesus wants us to mature in our character.
“From Him [Jesus] the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (Ephesians 4:16 NIV)
Within our roles, each of us has a good _____________________to do.

INNOVATOR/ENTREPRENEUR
(APOSTLE)
They tend to pioneer new things. They start movements, build systems and love to be involved in new ventures. They love to extend the gospel. They are always thinking about the future, removing barriers, establishing the church in new contexts, and developing leaders.
IMPACT OF THE INNOVATOR/ENTREPRENEUR • New ministries start • Leaders get developed • Missions remain central to the vision of the church
PROTECTOR/PRESERVER
(PROPHET)
They are particularly attuned to God and His truth for today. They tend to have high standards and expect others to live up to those standards. They call for a personal response to God’s redemption in Christ, and also draw believers to engage the wider mission, growing the church. While they tend to be focused on reaching those outside the church, they are also great at enlisting others within the ministry of the church.
IMPACT OF THE RECRUITER/PERSUADER • People respond to God’s personal call • Numerical growth of the church • The gospel remains central to the message of the church
NURTURER/TRAINER

Teachers understand and explain. They are the communicators of God’s truth and wisdom that help others remain biblically grounded and faithful to biblical doctrine.
IMPACT OF THE PASTOR/TEACHER • People are nurtured in their understanding and faith in God • Loving relationships and sense of community • Worship and prayer stay central to the practice of the church

CLASS F
FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP In this class you will look at what it means to be a good steward of your time, talent, and treasure as your begin to impact our church, city, and the world.
58
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A STEWARD? STEWARDSHIP is using our God given resources to __________________ and ____________more of Him in our daily lives. God owns__________________________ and He gives us________________________________we have. “The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” (Haggai 2:8 NLT) “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:18 NKJV) “For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: He puts down one, and sets up another.” (Psalm 75:6-7 KJV) “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights.” (James 1:17 NKJV)
God gives us everything we have so that we can _________ Him fully. “God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.” (1 Timothy 6:17 ASV) God designed us to be___________________________________, not _________________________________________. “Let love be genuine … Contribute to the needs of the saints.” (Romans 12:9a & 13 ESV) God doesn’t bless us to increase our standard of _______; He blesses us to increase our standard of_____________________! “Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35b NKJV)
WHAT HAS GOD GIVEN US TO BE STEWARDS OVER? There are three main things that God gives to us that we are to steward for Him. 1.____________________________ 2.____________________________ 3.____________________________
59
1
TIME
You can’t ___________ it, you can only ____________it. “The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years … So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:10a, 12 NKJV) Shade in the number of days that you have used up so far:
10 (3,605)
20 (7300)
30 (10,950)
40 (14,600)
50 (18,250)
60 (21,900)
70 (25,550)
80 (29,200)
God gives us a limited amount of__________________________ in order to acquire__________________________. “The only foundation you can lay is Jesus. You can build with gold, silver, and precious stones, or with wood, hay and stubble. Your life passes through the fire of judgment one day and it will be revealed what you acquired with your time.” (1 Corinthians 3:11-15 paraphrased) “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3 NKJV)
2
TALENT
You can’t ___________ it, you can only ___________it. “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other … It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.” (1 Corinthians 12:7 & 11 NLT) “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10 ESV)
God gives each one of us gifts, talents, and ________________________. God gives us talent, not to show how great we are, but to show how gracious He is.
What can I do? Be a part of a ________________________
________________________.
“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as the unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 4:15-15 NASB)
DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR HIDE YOUR TALENT.
60
3
TREASURE
You can’t ____________ it, you can only ____________it. “Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NLT) We ____________ what we sow – so let’s return to God generously! God loves a cheerful giver – so let’s return to God purposefully!
SIX BENEFITS OF GIVING 1. Giving makes me become more like _________. “God so loved the world that He gave his only Son.” (John 3:16 ESV)
2. Giving draws me closer to God. “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21 NKJV)
3. Giving is the antidote to ________________________. “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to be generous and willing to share. In this way they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” (1 Timothy 6:17-19 NIV)
4. Giving strengthens my faith. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding… Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of your income, and he will fill your barns to overflowing.” (Proverbs 3:5, 9-10 LB)
5. Giving is an investment in ____________________. “Give happily to those in need, and always be ready to share whatever God has given you. By doing this you will be storing up real treasure for yourselves in heaven - it is the only safe investment for eternity!” (1 Timothy 6:18-19 LB)
6. Giving blesses me in return. “He who is generous will be blessed.” (Proverbs 22:9 NASB)

STILL UNSURE ABOUT TITHING?
C H A L L E NGE If you haven’t started tithing yet, we want to extend the 90–Day Tithing Challenge to you. The Bible says the purpose of tithing is to teach us always to put God first in our lives so that we can fully enjoy Him and His goodness (Deuteronomy 14:22-23). Tithing is both a reminder that God is the supplier of everything we have and an act of faith to continue relying on His faithfulness to us. The questions we need to ask ourselves are, “Do we believe that God is wise and good?” and “Do we trust Him?” The answers to these two fundamental questions lie behind the act of giving. If God is wise, then we should listen to what He says about financial stewardship. If we trust Him, then we should trust Him with all aspects of our life, including our finances. So go ahead. Accept God’s invitation to put Him to the test. Start tithing faithfully and watch what He does in and through your life. Here's our promise...Commit to a percentage for 90 days, and at the end of that time period, if you feel like God didn't hold true to His promise of blessing, we will refund 100% of everything you gave during the 90 days. No questions asked. That's how confident we are that God will honor your step of obedience.

DISCOVER YOUR DISPOSITION DISPOSITION refers to how you are wired to ________________
__________________.
Our approach to life (disposition) can be determined from two basic things: What we say and what we do. WHAT WE SAY – “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34 NKJV) People naturally talk about what they are most interested in, and if you listen carefully, you find two broad, but distinct areas of subject matter. ___________________ ___________________ people talk primarily about the world of everyday reality: facts and figures, work and play, home and family, news, sports, and weather -- all the who-what-when-where-and how much of life. They focus on facts. ___________________ ___________________ people talk primarily about the world of ideas: theories and conjectures, dreams and philosophies, beliefs and fantasies -- all the why’s, if’s, and whatmight- be’s of life. They focus on ideas. WHAT WE DO – “Even a child is known by his deeds, whether what he does is pure and right.” (Proverbs 20:11 NKJV) Everyone is trying to accomplish their goals, and if you watch closely how people go about their business, you see that there are two fundamentally opposite types of action. ___________________ ___________________ people act primarily in a pragmatic way, that is, they do what gets results. Only afterwards do they check to see if they are observing the rules or going through proper channels. They instinctively do what works. ___________________ ___________________ people act primarily in a cooperative or socially acceptable manner and follow agreed upon social rules. Only later do they concern themselves with the effectiveness of their actions. They do what’s correct.
DISPOSITION ASSESSMENT TOOL INSTRUCTIONS: Read each statement. Determine which statement best describes you, even if it is just a little better. Place an “x” in column A or B depending on which statement you chose. At the end of each section, total the number of answers in each column.
HINT: Try to answer as you really are, not how you wish to be, or have to be at work. We are looking for your natural tendencies, not necessarily your experiences. Your first answer is usually your best – don’t overthink the statements.

GUARDIANS As reality based and relationship focused, Guardians speak mostly of their duties and responsibilities, of what they can keep an eye on and take good care of. They’re careful to obey the laws, follow the rules, and respect the rights of others.
Guardians are the cornerstones of society, for they are the temperament given to serving and preserving our most important social institutions. Guardians have natural talent in managing goods and services—from supervision to maintenance and supply. They use all their skills to keep things running smoothly in their families, communities, schools, churches, hospitals, and businesses.
ALL GUARDIANS SHARE THE FOLLOWING CORE CHARACTERISTICS: • Guardians pride themselves on being dependable, helpful, and hard-working. • Guardians make loyal mates, responsible parents, and stabilizing leaders. • Guardians tend to be dutiful, cautious, humble, and focused on credentials and traditions. • Guardians are concerned citizens who trust authority, join groups, seek security, prize gratitude, and dream of justice.

Artisans are the temperament with a natural ability to excel in any of the arts; not only the fine arts such as painting and sculpting, or the performing arts such as music, theater, and dance, but also the athletic, military, political, mechanical, and industrial arts, as well as the “art of the deal” in business.
ALL ARTISANS SHARE THE FOLLOWING CORE CHARACTERISTICS: • Artisans tend to be fun-loving, optimistic, realistic, and focused on the here and now. • Artisans pride themselves in being unconventional, bold, and spontaneous. • Artisans make playful mates, creative parents, and troubleshooting leaders. • Artisans are excitable, trust their impulses, want to make a splash, seek stimulation, prize freedom, and dream of mastering action skills.

IDEALISTS As possibility based and relationship focused, Idealists speak mostly of what they hope for and imagine what might be possible for people. They want to act in good conscience, always trying to reach their goals without compromising their personal code of ethics.
Idealists are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. They strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best. This quest for knowledge and improvement drives their imagination. And they want to help others make the journey. Idealists are naturally drawn to working with people; whether in education or counseling, social services, or personnel work, journalism, or the ministry, they are gifted at helping others find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals and fulfill
their potential. They are always pragmatic and act as efficiently as possible to achieve their objectives, ignoring arbitrary rules and conventions if need be. Rationalists are the problem-solving temperament, particularly if the problem has to do with the many complex systems that make up the world around us. Rationalists might tackle problems in organic systems such as plants and animals, or in mechanical systems such as railroads and computers. They may also tackle problems in social systems such as families and companies and governments. Whatever systems fire their curiosity, Rationalists will analyze them to understand how they work, so they can figure out how to make
them work better. Within each personality type, we share two borders and one opposite.

CLASS E
EVANGELIZING THE LOST The purpose of this class is to help you gain an understanding of who we are as a church in bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to others. You will also learn how to effectively share your testimony.
76
WHY WE EXIST AS A CHURCH “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe…Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed His word by the signs that accompanied it.” (Mark 16:15-20 NIV) Our hope is that today you will understand the heart of who we are as a church and that together we can embrace a God given vision for both our lives and our church.
The vision statement of Rock Church is derived from the final words of Jesus to His followers. These words are known as the Great Commission. ROCK CHURCH EXISTS TO ESTABLISH PERVASIVE HOPE; EVERY STREET AND EVERY PERSON. Practically, that means that for every way a person can be lost we will provide a way for them to be found in the very place that they ended up. We are committed to reach people with the life giving message of Jesus that they might become fully devoted followers of Christ.

“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16 NKJV) “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17 NKJV) (Also note: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4) For more information go to: SDROCK.COM/KNOWGOD
The “BAD NEWS” • All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) • The penalty of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)
The “GOOD NEWS” • Jesus Christ died for us on the cross so our sins would be forgiven. (Romans 5:8) • If you confess your sins, and believe Jesus is God and has been raised from the dead, your sins will be forgiven and you will have a new life in Jesus Christ. (Romans 10:8-10)

THE ABC’S OF THE GOSPEL A _____________________ B ____________________ C _____________________ D _____________________
Text “Saved” to 52525 to connect your faith to follow up resources. BAPTISM: A very important first step in discipleship is to get baptized. Baptism is an opportunity for you to make a public declaration of your faith in Jesus Christ. Rock Church is pleased to celebrate with you and provides a number of options to be baptized. “And now, why delay? Go and be baptized and be cleansed from your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16 TLB) Note: You can get baptized in your Group, ask your Group Leader for more details. To view upcoming baptism opportunities at Rock Church go to: SDROCK.COM/BAPTISM Next campus baptism date is__________________________________________________ . COMMUNION: Communion, also known as the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is another special ordinance (or sacrament) given by Jesus to the church (Matthew 26:26-29) When Jesus said, “Take, eat; this is my body” and “Drink of it, all of you, for this is My blood” He was speaking metaphorically to His disciples (vv. 26–27). Communion is a sacrament only to be partaken of by Christians. Non-believers are encouraged not to take communion, as the Bible warns that those who take communion in an unworthy manner will be guilty of disrespecting Jesus and therefore bring judgment upon them. (1 Corinthians 11:23-30)
WHAT IS EVANGELISM? The word “evangelism” means bringing _____________
___________________.
Evangelism is taking the opportunity to share the Good News you know about Jesus with others. Evangelism is both the ___________ we say and the _________________we do. “My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:18 NKJV) Evangelism is to be done in the power of the Holy Spirit. “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.” (1 Corinthians 2:4 NKJV) “The apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.” (Acts 14:3 NLT)
78
WHY DO WE EVANGELIZE? God wants to see the world _________________________ and ___________________________. “God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17 NKJV) God desires a loving relationship with every human being. “God our Savior … wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4 NLT) Sharing the gospel is a powerful way to _________________________ people. “We work hard to persuade others … for Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all.” (2 Corinthians 5:16 NLT) Jesus commands and commissions us to go and do it. “Go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19 NLT)
WHAT ARE MY NEXT STEPS? 1. Invite your ___________________________ friends to Sunday services at Rock Church. Weekend Services at Rock Church are about three things: •______________________________ - it’s why we will always have an altar call. “Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. But how shall they ask him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” (Romans 10:13-15 LB) •_______________________________ - it’s why we will always have Spirit-filled worship. “…the Father seeks worshippers… and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24 NIV) •_______________________________ - it’s why we will always seek to have a God encounter. “…Unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say. As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.” (1 Corinthians 14:24-25 NIV)

SAMPLE STORY I WAS... My name is Miles McPherson and I grew up in Long Island, New York. Before giving my heart to God, my life/heart was empty and lost, searching for purpose. I believed I would be happy if I was good at football, got high on drugs, and dated girls. For example, it wouldn’t be uncommon for me to get high every day and workout five to six days a week to try to fill the emptiness in my heart. After awhile, my behavior began to make me feel hopeless and lost, and that wasn’t working for me.
THEN JESUS... At this point in my life, my belief about God was that He loved me, but I only understood it in the context of religion. But it wasn’t until I heard (or experienced) the gospel and that Jesus wanted to have a relationship with me that I began to consider trusting God with my life. I finally decided that I wanted to receive Jesus as my Savior, so when I was lying on my couch at five in the morning, I proceeded to pray and ask Him to forgive me. Afterwards, I didn’t view drugs, football, and dating as my ultimate source of happiness anymore. I now know that the only way to finally receive joy and contentment is by obeying Jesus with all my heart.
THEN I HEARD THE VOICE OF THE LORD SAYING, ‘WHOM SHALL I SEND? AND WHO WILL GO FOR US?’ AND I SAID, ‘HERE AM I. SEND ME!’ HE SAID, ‘GO AND TELL THIS PEOPLE...’ - Isaiah 6:8-9 NKJV

Life transformation is at the heart of the School of Ministry. We believe Jesus created the model for us to follow—life transformation happens through life transmission—Jesus spent time with his disciples, transferring His life to them. They learned as much, if not more, from watching Him live as from His sermons. The School of Ministry has adopted Jesus’ method. Come, and your life will be changed. i195.org
