On behalf of the contributors, Welcome to the 4th Annual Sell-ect Breeders Sale The inner core of the group are the cutting edge Angus breeders that set the bar higher for all breeds at the Lakeland College Bull Performance Test. The second year I participated at the College Test I represented the Angus breed contributors on the all breed advisory board. The first two years I had the high indexing and high selling bulls and heifers of all breeds, then HR Hahn Cattle Co., entered HRH 1T from FAQ Erica 17G 9M which he bought from me, the bull sold for $10,250.00. When Hahn, Clegg and Fischer participated in the program, we either topped the test or were among the top sellers Tyler Kueber won the local 4H class with a heifer from my Erica cow family. The following year with a bull calf at side the pair topped the 4H class. He entered the calf in the College Test, and the bull was among the top indexers and high sellers. FAQ, Hahn, Kueber, & Clegg cattle were admired and left a great impression on all that attended the field days and sales. Top SELL-ECT’ ions were from this group each year. They are the of the SELL-ECT Breeders Group foundation. Hahn and Kueber purchased their foundation females from me, and we continue to work in harmony. I am pleased to have: Dal Riada Farms, Clegg Angus, Joy-Don Angus, Sandstorm Angus, and 5F Farms, the Maine Anjou breeder, with us this year. Kueber Farms had bulls at Lakeland for two years; Dal Raida Farms for one year. When I started to performance test bulls and heifers, they wanted their bulls to be fed and performance tested with mine. Sandstorm Angus and 5 F Farms joined in this year. Hahn, Clegg, Joy-Don, and Fenske, are feeding their animals at home. We are feeding a similar ration with a lot of roughage to achieve a similar gain and sound useable seed stock. Our brood cows have: eye appeal, docile temperaments, overall maternal functionality. We pride ourselves with our ability to SELL-ECT and expose our females to recognizable sires that add value to the awesome brood cow’s progeny so we can offer curve bending, leading edge genetics that will be front pasture standouts. Each contributor has proudly contributed cutting edge seed stock so you can ‘Purchase The Best’ at an affordable price Vic Fischer

I have been involved with livestock all my life; and raised purebred Angus cattle and Registered Quarterhorses for 50 years. I made many friends, and gained much during the past 75 years. In return I want to recognize a few, from among many, that supported me. Firstly my family that enrolled me in the Lakemere 4H Beef Club 62 years ago, their ongoing support; the 4H leaders and members; my Uncle Pete Sittner, Flat Top Angus Ranch of Thunder Hawk, ND; Bob Caine, Caine Cattle Company; the Northern Alberta Angus Club; Tom Meerheimb and the committee members, that I worked alongside to produce the 1985 Angus World Forum; thanks Doug Henderson, for your guidance with the Black Gold Classic Sales and helping me export cattle into 6 foreign countries; my good friend Walter Huber of Central Alberta Breeders; the Alberta Provincial Grazing Reserve Program, giving me the opportunity to manage the community pastures for 26 years; clients FAQ cattle, horses, consulting services, & Angus beef; & Hank Ryhanen, my Forest Superintendent for 9 years, if it feels right in your heart proceed. Thank you all for your encouragement, friendship, and support that made my chosen lifestyle enjoyable and profitable. You have, and continue to be my daily dose of the essential Vitamin ‘F’riends. The FAQ offering is second to none; progeny from highly productive females from ‘World Class Sires’. The Erica cow family originated more than a century ago. I purchased an open Erica heifer from LLB, a daughter of Gambler 36 years ago. Whitestone Krebs paid $223,000.00 for 2/3 interest in that young rascal. Take notice of the Erica’s in Hahn’s and Kuebers’s cattle, they perform there as they did for me. The maternal genetics in the animals I have offered in this sale; each bull & heifer has Erica in the top or bottom, except the red heifer & KUP 10Y. The awesome Pioneer bull and heifer are from maternal sisters; both were the top indexing heifers of all breeds at Lakeland College Bull and heifer test. The Pioneer heifer is a maternal sister to my KUP 6W herd bull that sired KUP 14Y, KUP 16Y bulls & KUP 1203Y heifer. The dam of KUP 2Y is the Grand dam KUP 1311Y & KUP 2211Y. The 4 sires represented in my offering are Pioneer, Aberdeen, FAQ Grant 211S 6W, and Field Day. Each added value to the progeny of the awesome brood cow(s) they serviced. My offering has world class leading edge, maternal excellence, with remarkable birth to weaning/yearling spreads that will provide ranchers and feedlot operators the opportunity to take advantage of my 50 years perfecting a small brood cow base. I don’t have to cull 50 % of their progeny as many seed stock breeders do. Every female produces quality saleable progeny or she goes to the plant. Thanking you for considering FAQ seed stock.

A son of EXAR King, the bull Justamere Farms brought up from Express Ranches, Yukon, OK. This calf has a lot of length of spine, and growth packed in a phenotypically pleasing package. His dam 199U, was a class winner at the Canadian Bull Congress as a heifer calf, and is a daughter of the “carcass king”, Objective 3J15. This calf should pass down his feed efficiency traits as well as his great phenotype. 4th Annual Sell-ect Breeders Sale

The Power of Genetics As an Angus Breeder how do we improve the breed and help our customers create more profits (and come back to buy bulls year after year!)? We strongly believe that is not only by selecting the best sire groups but also investing in the maternal side of the equation. Our focus for the last 10 years has been to build a premier set of 50 females. By the time we’re done…. the dams will be the most sought after, select female family groups in the Angus breed. Investing in the future of the cow herd is my RRSP! A lot more fun than watching the stock market. As exciting as it is to show the fantastic bull crop, it is equally exciting to showcase the dams that stay at home and create the future. Ask us about our 2011 purchases, our embryo program and sire selection process.

This August 2010 Bismarck calf was the lead off cow/calf pair sold at the Price Farms Sale in Sayre, OK. The dam posted performance ratios of 114 for URE and 102 for WW. 1200X certainly performs just like his EPD’s indicate – low birth weight and then grows like mad. Here is a bull with extra age – will cover more heifers than younger penmates, but still give you calving ease. Note his smooth shoulders and length. This bull will not disappoint you.

Joy-Don Angus c/o Tom Cook RR#1 Thorsby AB T0C 2P0 Ph: 780-789-3363 joydonangus@xplornet.ca www.joydonangus.com
Our goal from day one was to have sound, functional, trouble free cows! I started with a commercial cow / calf operation in 1982, but the following year I added six Red Angus pairs and was so pleased with them, that in 1985 I made the move to Red Angus. All of my foundation stock came from Blue Spruce or Six Mile ranches over the next 2 years. I bought older cows from both breeders on the premise that if a cow could make it to “old age” in herds of 300 plus, she must have been producing well. Over the next few years I used A.I. extensively, and was fortunate to select some very good bulls. Using E.P.D.’s I chose Current Value the first year then followed with Rambo and finally Robin Hood. All this time I worked “off the farm” (Working 12 hr. shifts and doing the single parent thing). My cows had to do it on their own and those that didn’t were shipped. By 1993 the herd was really producing well and when Mogens and Allan Sanders invited me to sell with them at their Lethbridge sale I accepted. However that meant much more time spent with the cows, and calving in Jan- Mar. There were a few frozen ears and not all were on the cattle. After 3 years of burning the candle at both ends and in the middle, I was relieved when Blue Spruce decided to discontinue the Lethbridge sale. I moved calving into Apr-Jun and ran the herd as a commercial operation until 2009 when I retired from my “paying” job. I only had a few of my old registered cows left, so we added 5 cows from Olson’s Ole Farms; 18 Allavon / Blue Spruce cows; heifers from Get-a-Long, Ter-Ron and Willow Ck. and one well bred “old gal” from the Circle G dispersal. I decided to sell all the black bulls as commercial bulls without registration papers because they are red carriers and genetically unique to my herd. Also I want to establish commercial buyer clients and what better way to do that than to offer your best bulls without purebred competition. If you require more info about the bulls give us a call or stop by and check them out. Coffee is always on.

We live three miles south of Gibbons on a small scale mixed farm, where I grew up. We run 80 Maine-Anjou cows, a 7000 bird chicken broiler operation, and I work part time at a neighbouring farm. Trina has her hands full with our three children: Cassidy 5, Colton 3, and Tanner 1. We started with Maine-Anjou cattle in 2007 when we purchased 20 heifers from Marvin and Cynthia Siewert from Hanna. Marvin had some health problems and decided to sell their herd, We bought the heifers and Thimer Farms, where I was working at the time, bought the cow herd. In 2010, Thimers got out of beef cattle, so we got the opportunity to purchase the remainder of the Siewert herd. We enjoy the Maine-Anjou breed, they are docile, milk well, and cross well to many other breed. We are striving to produce moderate birth weight, easy fleshing cattle, with good feet and legs, that are ready for today’s cattlemen.
We feel our bulls and commercial heifers will give the buyer a leading edge advantage of the hybrid vigour and the maternal genetics bred into the cattle that we have entered in the SELL-ECT BREEDER GROUP SALE. We invite you to stop by for a visit and view the cattle. Chad , Trina, and children

Here is a production heifer with size and performance. The dam was designated a premier dam by Canadian Angus in 2010. I’ve retained several daughters in the herd, one sold to Derek Saskiw. The Red Net Worth has become a popular outcross pedigree sire with Traveller 004 in it. Indications are that he’s going to be a great cow producer.

To All Prospective Bull Buyers: I have had the privilege of being associated with the Sell-ect Breeders Group since its inception 4 years ago. Over that time, I have always been impressed with how well the bulls and heifers on test have been cared for, their state of health, and how clean and comfortable they all are. The feeding program that is instituted, has the balance of allowing the on-test animals to exhibit their genetic potential, while not being detrimental to their reproductive health. All on test cattle were dewormed, using an ivermectin product, during the first week of December 2011, and again during the last week of January 2012. All on-test cattle were given IBR BVD, PI3, BrSV , and Clostridial vaccines at or around the time of weaning. Sincerely; Dr. Rick Faintuck
