Self-Sourced Income & Government Funding

We increased the availability of large-scale, mainstream entertainment such as The Gazillion Bubble Show and Circus 1903 with a broader program of entertainment including comedy and music events. As a result, Canberra Theatre Centre has been able to improve and expand our social inclusion work and increase our contribution to the CBR economy. These were some of the year’s highlights: We hosted 11,000+ students from 297 different schools through our theatre and education programs.

We continued to support low income earning members of the Canberra community by purchasing and allocating 988 tickets through our Social Capital Program. 94% of patrons rated their experience favourably.

2016/17

Our Collected Works season featured work from Australia’s top theatre and dance companies.

We continued our Music at Midday program. In association with the Royal Military College Band and Canberra Labour Club, we delivered over $10,000 to local charities, adding to the over $220,000+ raised over the past 24 years.

2015/16

This year, we’ve continued to present works of local, national and international significance.

In partnership with Big hART, we hosted a range of weekly skills learning workshops for Project O, a program that engages young women to drive generational change.

2014/15

Canberra Theatre Centre is part of the ACT Government’s Cultural Facilities Corporation with a core purpose to enrich the lives of Canberrans – culturally, educationally, socially and economically.

Our Acting Up festival brought a series of student-lead productions to our stage, inspiring young people to imagine a future in theatre and allowing them to create new, contemporary Australian works.

2013/14

Located in the CBD, Canberra Theatre Centre is the focal point for performing arts in Canberra and is often considered the heart of the city.

We continued our work experience program for college-aged students, offering them hands-on experience working at the theatre on professional productions.

2012/13

Canberra Theatre Centre is Canberra’s premier performing arts venue, providing world class entertainment to the Canberra region.

Looking toward the future, Canberra Theatre Centre remains on a steady upward trajectory. Securing the professional musical MAMMA MIA! opening in late 2017, has established Canberra as a viable host city for large-scale entertainment. The success of this and other large shows indicates to presenters that CBR is alive and viable location adding value to the CBR visitor and general economy.
