WELCOME As we usher in the 2017 season, a curated selection of the greatest works touring the nation, I am inspired and excited by what I see. This act of telling our stories, connecting with each other through the strength of our shared human experience, is what drives us in the arts, and what connects us as communities.
OUR ROLE IN THE CBR COMMUNITY During 2015/16 we delivered some great results for the Canberra community when we engaged with over a quarter of a million people at 443 performances, delivering over $6 million to the visitor economy and over $5 million in wages to 180 local team members. We hosted 13,000+ students from 134 different schools, 43,600 people attended free or low cost events, we spent $27,000 on 380 tickets in our Social Capital Initiative. We thank all those producers and investors (government and private) who took a chance on us. We can do more for our community and I encourage you to complete our surveys and guide us in delivering what you value. Speaking of taking a chance, I couldn’t be happier to have announced MAMMA MIA! for 2017. That Louise Withers, Linda Bewick and Michael Coppel are commencing this national tour in Canberra is indicative of their faith in us. They, like us, see a future in which the nation’s capital is included in the tour schedule for the biggest national and international shows. It’s a future that we at Canberra Theatre Centre are working towards, and one that we couldn’t dream of without the incredible support shown to us by the Cultural Facilities Corporation, Chief Minister, Arts Minister, and Visit Canberra. The collective confidence shown in us and our 2015/16 results affirms that the Canberra Theatre Centre is OPEN FOR SHOW BUSINESS.
THE SEASON The 2017 season opens with Ladies in Black, Tim Finn’s (Split Enz, Crowded House) Helpmann award winner. This boutique tour, direct to us from Sydney Festival, takes us on a journey through the lives of the employees of F.G Goodes’ department store. Caught at the crossroads between the stuffy repression of the 1950s and the glorious liberation of the 1960s, this colourful future classic will go down in history. Another highlight from the State Theatre Company of South Australia is an adaptation of a book that generations have studied in school, myself included, a story that has more resonance with each passing year. 1984 is an eerie example of classic work representing actual living futures, and one that is delivered by one of the most creative companies operating in Australian Theatre. The season closes with MAMMA MIA! produced by one of the world’s most accomplished producers, Australia’s very own Louise Withers. This fully professional musical tours the capital cities from its opening here in Canberra so we see this production first. I encourage you all to join us for the 2017 journey. Thank you

A GRIPPING FIGHT FOR RIGHTS THAT SHOULD HAVE CHANGED HISTORY ‘We will show the country that it will work.’ In 1881, the men and women of Coranderrk Aboriginal Reserve had a simple and revolutionary goal: to continue the brilliant experiment in self-determination they had pioneered on the scrap of country left to them. But the law said they needed permission. They went head-to-head with the Aboriginal Protection Board at a Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry to be allowed to continue.

The production aims to encourage a shared understanding of the past between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. TICKET EXCHANGES You can exchange your tickets free of charge for any other performance of the same production. Conditions apply and subject to availability. In order to exchange, original tickets must be returned in person to Canberra Ticketing at least 24 hours before the earliest of the performance.
DRINK & GALA OPENING VOUCHERS Spend more time socialising during interval without having to wait in long queues at the bar by pre-purchasing drink vouchers. Please indicate on the booking form if you wish to pre-purchase drinks. To pre-order your interval drinks on the night, simply present your drink vouchers to the bar staff prior to the show. Lost drink vouchers are
unable to be replaced. Patrons attending nominated Gala Opening nights will receive a voucher entitling them to entry to the post-show function. All vouchers will be sent with your show tickets.
SPLIT THE BILL Would you like to pay for your Season Ticket package in two easy payments? We can charge your credit card half of the total price now, and the remainder in 1 April 2017. A transaction fee of $10 will apply. (This option is not available for packages booked via our online booking form.) You will be sent an email reminder in March to obtain the payment details to set up the second payment.
CHILDREN For shows where no specific child price is listed, the Under 27 (U27) or Bell Child Under 18 (Bell U18) price applies. Please note that while some shows in Collected Works 2017 may be suitable for children, parental discretion is advised.
