Season 2010 ticket holders have priority access to the best seats in the house until Monday 1 November, with all remaining seats held exclusively for season ticket holders until Monday 31 January before single tickets go on sale to the general public.

New season ticket holders will be processed from Tuesday 2 November. Tickets for The Sapphires go on sale to the general public on Tuesday 2 November however an allocation of good seats will be held for season ticket holders.

A heartwarming Irish play that burst into life at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 and later played a sold-out run off-Broadway is the second treasure in the Season 2011. Little Gem stars a talented cast from Ireland’s Gúna Nua Theatre and features a series of hilarious and uplifting moments in the lives of three generations of Dublin women. Kay’s got an itch that Gem can’t scratch (but maybe Kermit can) … Lorraine attacks a customer at work and her boss wants her to see a psychiatrist … Amber has bad indigestion and the sambucas aren’t getting rid of it. If all that wasn’t bad enough, Little Gem makes his presence felt and life is never the same again.

A Commercial Farce ‘History always repeats itself twice: first time as tragedy, second time as farce’ KARL MARX Bill drives a clapped out ’68 Jag and wears second-hand clothes. He’s an experienced theatre director on the verge of a nervous breakdown. There’s less than 24 hours until the curtains go up and this production is unravelling … fast. Enter Jules, the latest fresh-faced television star of Murder Squad. He’s the big name that’s going to sell the tickets. Without him the show is doomed. But when Jules fails to perform the simplest of acting tasks, Bill’s raison d’être becomes teaching his young pupil the very meaning of farce. A Commercial Farce is biting comedy at its best. Expect slapstick, running gags, misunderstandings and an inability to communicate the simplest of messages. It’s one big, complicated dog’s breakfast, and it must nonetheless unfold with blind precision. Director Aidan Fennessy revels in Houghton’s script, delivering a production that fuses physical humour, sexual innuendo and transgressive behaviour with an almighty bang.

In 6 Breaths, Ezio and Rafael focus on the act of breathing as the spirit of life. ‘The first breath is the life breath; the second is breathlessness – out of breath; the third, the crying breath or where breath is interrupted by emotion; the fourth is in the same breath; the fifth breath is a whisper – under one’s breath – and the sixth is last breath.’

If it sounds complicated, well, that’s love for you – a trip down the aisle is never a straight one. Belong If you thought you’d seen the best of Bangarra Dance Theatre, think again In 2011, the fire, the spirit and the soul of Bangarra returns. In Belong – a brand new double bill – we visit the very core of the Bangarra dancers themselves, tracing their histories across our vast country from the Kimberley to the Torres Strait. Artistic Director Stephen Page will create a new work aptly titled ID, exploring the stories of Bangarra’s dancers, and rekindling memories of their families, their bloodlines and their places of origin. Following the success of 2007’s Emeret Lu, company choreographer and dancer Elma Kris’ new contemporary work, About, will be inspired by the cultures and experiences of the peoples of Saibai Island. Bangarra Dance Theatre is fuelled by the spirit, energy and inspiration derived from the culture, values and traditions of Indigenous Australians.

The grandchildren of Albert Namatjira re-tell the story of his remarkable life Indigenous artist Albert Namatjira’s achingly beautiful watercolours introduced Australian suburbia to the exquisite beauty of our central desert heartland. In a similar way, the sweeping narrative of Namatjira acts as a window through which we see ourselves, and our nation, as clearly as the landscapes Albert Namatjira gave us. Starring Trevor Jamieson – who last gave a breathtaking performance in Ngapartji Ngapartji – Namatjira captures the intense beauty, depth, opportunism, mateship and injustice that has shaped our country. Before our eyes, the grandchildren of Albert Namatjira – third generation watercolour artists – assist with the re-telling of his life, filling the stage with a huge landscape drawing of their desert country. Namatjira is more than a night at the theatre: it is an experience of art, live on stage.

The Wharf Revue team will have plenty of fodder for their return to Canberra in 2011. A Sydney institution for more than a decade, The Wharf Revue team graced the stage in Canberra for the first time last year with Pennies from Kevin. It was an outrageous show that sold out in a matter of hours and left our senior public servants and political heavyweights rolling in the aisles.

FOR THE DEAF AND HEARING IMPAIRED LIVE CAPTIONS Selected performances in Season 2011 will be live captioned by The Captioning Studio. All dialogue and sound effects are described in real time on screens in the auditorium (or, if preferred, on a discreet hand-held device). FM RADIO- ASSISTED HEARING SYSTEM An FM radio-assisted hearing system is available for performances in the Canberra Theatre and The Playhouse. This system amplifies and improves the quality of the sound through the use of a headset or a hearing aid. Our services for the deaf and hearing impaired are provided with the assistance of Better Hearing Australia, ACT Deafness Resource Centre and The Captioning Studio.

FOR THE BLIND AND VISION IMPAIRED

Audio description provides a minimal narration, between dialogue, of the visual elements of live theatre, transmitted through a small receiver and earpiece for patrons with low or no vision. A concession price is available to unemployed, pensioner and full-time students. Selected performances within Season 2011 offer a discounted price to government-issued seniors card holders. Proof of entitlement must be shown when booking and may be requested prior to admission.

A child concession is available – for selected performances in Season 2011 for children 15 years and under. Young people aged 16 and above can access the Under 27 price if it is offered. Some shows within Season 2011 are not necessarily suitable for children. Children 12 months and under admitted free provided that they do not occupy a seat.

UNDER 27 If you’re between 16 and 27 years of age you can purchase a season ticket package at the Under 27 price. Just send in a photocopy of your proof of age with your booking form. Limited availability.
