I’m making plans to spend Christmas in Queensland with my mum, brother, nieces, and assorted sub-tropical relatives. Our focus is on sharing quality time (and festive food) together rather than on gift giving. The gift is in being present. But it’s not all tinsel and pavlova; there are pitfalls to navigate so that our shared time can be as pleasant as possible. Turns out I’m not alone in finding the silly season challenging; drinking eggnog one minute, walking on eggshells the next. How about you? At the Lifeline Canberra 2023 Giving Tree launch at Book Lovers Lane last week, we heard that Christmas is the busiest time of the year for calls to Lifeline’s 13 11 14 crisis support line. Which means many Australians find the festive season their toughest time of the year, not the merriest. The Giving Tree aims to raise funds to ensure as many calls as possible are answered by Lifeline’s expertly trained telephone crisis support volunteers (aka angels) this Christmas. If you’d like to donate, go to lifelinecanberra.org.au or visit Book Lovers Lane to place a gift tag on the tree. Reasons to be grateful this past week include the Emily Kam Kngwarray exhibition opening at the National Gallery, festive gatherings, weekend walks with friends, and Morris Legal Group’s support of the Lifeline Canberra Giving Tree. Take care,

news What’s behind the Blue Door? Support for Canberrans in need For 20 years, Nishi Puri OAM and her associates have helped the Blue Door, a St Vincent de Paul drop-in centre at the Ainslie Village social housing complex, feed disadvantaged Canberrans. The Blue Door program helps people on welfare support, and those with addictions, mental illnesses and traumas. Some need clothing, food or furniture; others seek advice, advocacy or referrals. Every fortnight, the organisations of which Ms Puri is president, the Multicultural Association of Canberra (MAC) and GOPIO (Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin) Canberra, donate a trolley of non-perishable food. Whenever they can, every four months or so, they cook a barbecue for homeless men. They hosted one such barbecue last week, to promote

men’s mental health and wellbeing for Movember. “Our main aim is to help those who are really struggling,” Ms Puri said. “[Homeless people] need a lot of mental health support. And the more that people come forward, the better it is. That is why we want people to come forward, join hands with us, be a part of our barbecue, and be a part of our donation.” “The Blue Door is not just about feeding people,” the Blue Door’s coordinator, Paul Potter, says. “It’s also about bringing people together, creating communities. This is a great way to create communities.” So far this year, the Blue Door has provided 34,000 meals, and had more than 1,500 drop-ins. It also helps people struggling with addiction to come off drugs and

build a new life. The Blue Door accepts donations of non-perishable food. The public can also help by shopping at Vinnies, or donating online or to charity drives like the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. The public can help the MAC by donating funds, non-perishables, or groceries and pre-loved
clothing, or by coming to help with the barbecues. Visit themac.net.au for more information. “I know it’s a hard time, and cost of living pressures are high, but if people have a little bit of funds to spare, please help the people who really need help,” Ms Puri said. - Nick Fuller

smiles
Transforming and confidence Affordable Dental’s innovative approaches make the world of difference to patients ffordable Dental are making dentistry more accessible for patients. From routine check-ups to smile restorations, the team is experienced in understanding patient needs and transforming dental anxiety into confident smiles. Equipped with the latest technology and the affordability factor of an in-house lab, Affordable Dental’s experienced dental professionals take pride in showing their patients what’s possible. We chat with Dentist Dr Mina Rizk and Senior Prosthetist Eanna Callanan, who can both be found at the Phillip clinic.
Meet Mina and Eanna
Dr Mina Rizk is a passionate dentist who has dedicated his life to constant improvement to help his patients. With a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science, a Graduate Diploma in Dentistry, and a Masters of Clinical Dentistry (Dental
Implantology), Dr Mina is a firm believer in lifelong education. He regularly attends continuing professional development courses within Australia and internationally to stay up to date with the latest techniques. Eanna Callanan is a Senior Prosthetist and Implant Consultant with over 11 years’ experience in the dental sector in Ireland and Australia. He has a postgraduate degree in Clinical Dental Technology from Trinity College in Dublin and has undergone extensive training in the digital dentistry field, so is highly skilled with the software that helps patients to visualise their transformed smile.
Breaking down barriers to overcome patient anxiety
At Affordable Dental, our team takes pride not only in transforming smiles, but also attitudes towards dentistry.
Senior Prosthetist and Implant Consultant, Eanna Callanan (left) and Dentist, Dr Mina Rizk, are experienced in transforming dental anxiety into confident smiles.
“Many of the patients I see are nervous and anxious from the start,” Dr Mina said. “It can be that they’re embarrassed, they’ve had previous bad experiences, or they’ve been let down and told they don’t have any options. I try my best to understand the cause of their anxiety and treat them like a friend or family member.” “A lot of patients, when they come in, see the dental chair and alarm bells go off,” Eanna explained. “They start getting anxious immediately. Welcoming these patients in to have a conversation in a regular chair, away from that bad memory or the negative association of the dental chair, is a small change that can make a big difference in making them feel more comfortable from the start.”
Clear, transparent communication at every stage
“We always give patients a good understanding of the options available, explaining the pros and cons of each, what to expect, and the costs involved,” Dr Mina said. “We’re very upfront and transparent about everything from start to finish. There are no hidden fees, and I don’t start treatment until the patient is feeling confident.” Affordable Dental is a digitally-driven practice, which means technology aids greatly in patient communication. Each patient can see an in-depth scan of their mouth in real time, as well as a simulation of what it would look like to achieve their goals. “Our 3D X-rays give us a lot of in-depth information
“This patient was given the Affordable Smiles on Implants option, where the upper and lower teeth are replaced with just four implants for a new set of fixed teeth. Even in the temporary phase, he said the first time they went out was Father’s Day. His wife was so surprised because he was smiling and showing his teeth, and he wanted to show me his family photo,” Dr Mina said. “Initially they’re concerned because they think they’ll have to go a length of time without their teeth,” Eanna said. “But the way we structure treatment here is, the day those teeth come out is the day those new teeth come in. “The difference when they come in for their weekly review is clear – they’re glowing. They’ll say ‘I’ve never had teeth like this’ or ‘I haven’t smiled like this in years’, and they can’t wait for their after photo. Their confidence and quality of life has improved dramatically.”
The Affordable Dental difference
At Affordable Dental in Phillip, 3D printed models show patients what their teeth will look like in a way that they can touch and feel.
about pathology, anatomy, issues with teeth, infections,” Dr Mina said. “We can merge this information with our scanners and create simulation plans to demonstrate on screen.” “Patients are very impressed with the technology because they can see what’s going on,” Eanna said. “I can point out that this is the problem tooth and why, demonstrate what we can do to fix it, and how the treatment will positively change their life – improving their ability to bite, chew or smile.” In addition to clear visuals, 3D printed models show patients what their teeth will look like in a way that they can touch and feel. This is extremely beneficial for anyone to understand more complex treatment plans, but especially for those with language limitations or hearing difficulties. “We always encourage people to come in with a
family member or support person, so they are able to discuss in their own time,” Dr Mina said. “But as they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, and being able to see and feel the difference in their own hands makes a huge difference.”
Making a difference in the lives of patients
“One patient was told previously that their oral health was extremely bad, they had severe gum disease, and their teeth would fall out in six months to a year,” Dr Mina said. “After using our technology to analyse her situation, we determined it was only an early-mid onset of gum disease, and we were able to treat the cause.” Dr Mina found solutions for her situation, which was caused in part by a toothpaste allergy, and prescribed interdental brushes and a water flosser to get her oral health back on track. Another patient Dr Mina treated came to him with missing teeth, unable to eat what he would like, and not happy about his smile since adolescence. He was married for 20 years, with two children, and never smiled for a photo.

news Professor Frank Bongiorno wins third ACT Book of the Year award Frank Bongiorno, professor of history at the Australian National University (ANU), has won the ACT Book of the Year award for the third time, for Dreamers and Schemers (La Trobe University Press, 2022), the first full political history of Australia. “It’s a wonderful honour,” Professor Bongiorno said. “It’s a great support to writers and a great encouragement to writers in the ACT. It really does show the local commitment, the commitment of the Canberra community, to supporting writing in all its forms.” Dreamers and Schemers, the blurb states, “presents a social and cultural history of Australia’s political life, from pre-settlement Indigenous systems to the present day”. It has already been shortlisted for the Australian History Prize in the 2023 NSW Premier’s History Awards and for the Scholarly Book of the Year Award 2023 in the Educational Publishing Awards Australia; and longlisted for the Australian Political Book of the Year Award 2023. “It is very special to have someone of such high calibre here in our community, producing works like this,” arts minister Tara Cheyne said.
“Frank has committed to explaining history in a way that is accessible and exciting and helps make it understood.” Although an academic historian, Professor Bongiorno said that he tries to write for a general audience. “I wanted my readers to take away that politics matter; you can shun it and avoid it, but it shapes our lives,” he said. The book encompasses pubs and meeting halls, pamphleteers and stump orators, the parliament and cabinet, party agents and operatives, and agitators and outsiders. “It was very much an attempt to write politics from below as well as from above,” Professor Bongiorno explained; “to grapple with the kinds of demands and expectations that people have had of the Australian political system, and how that system has actually responded to those demands.” The work took Professor Bongiorno five years to write, beginning in 2017, and continuing through the 2021 lockdown. Fortunately, he said, his family supported him. “It was wonderful sitting there writing and usually
having some book arrive on the doorstep each day that I’d had to order to keep my own work going and my own reading going. So it is very much a Covid project, and it’s a book that actually reflects the experience of Covid in some ways, too. So I talk quite a lot towards the end of the book about the impacts that Covid had on our politics.” The panel of judges described the book as “compelling and comprehensive”, Ms Cheyne remarked. “The book’s perceptive honesty and contemporary sensibility shine throughout the narrative, providing readers with a fresh perspective on the subject,” she said. “Frank has achieved the difficult task of synthesising a large volume of wmaterial in a coherent and accessible manner, and his fluid style allows deep insight into the complex dynamics of politics.” Three-time ACT Book of the Year winner Marion Halligan (Words for Lucy) and ANU academic Dr Julieanne Lamond (Lohrey) received Highly Commended prizes. - Nick Fuller Extended version online at canberradaily.com.au.

Will Tran’s varied roles from stage to zoo Balancing a life on stage and inside the enclosures at the National Zoo and Aquarium, actor and zookeeper Will Tran has mastered the craft of juggling. A self-confessed drama kid, pursuing a career in the performing arts wasn’t on the cards for Will when he finished high school as his family expected he would pursue a more academic path. A well-meaning drama teacher offered Will some questionable advice. “She basically told me there would be no work for me because I’m Asian. In the context of where we are now, it’s possibly not very kosher, but in that time, I take it as she was looking out for me and didn’t want to see me fail,” Will says. Unable to forget about performance completely, Will put all his energy into dance. Coming

to the art form later than most at 17, he wanted to catch up and spent as much time as he could practising and watching YouTube videos. “I would take two buses from Civic down to Lanyon to learn how to dance and tell my folks I was studying at the National Library. It wasn’t until Mum scoped out the library one night and I was dancing down in Lanyon that it came out.” After his mother’s spy mission, Will’s family begrudgingly accepted that dance was a passion that he wanted to pursue and allowed the budding dancer to attend classes. “That old chestnut with migrant families, it’s all about creating stability for when kids are older, so they didn’t see value in any performing arts. But they still supported me, which actually means more because they completely disagreed with it but are

financially viable option. “I got booked for an ad for one day and realised that the cost of value for work being put in for that stuff is very different from being a dancer, which is arguably the most underpaid art form.” From one ad, the work grew into ad campaigns for global brands like HP and Microsoft to parts in TV shows like The Heights on ABC and Paper Dolls, which is about to air on Network Ten. Recently, the passionate performer undertook his largest mainstage role to date, playing Quang in Queensland Theatre’s production of Vietgone. “Quang is a hero, he is a helicopter pilot for the Republic of Vietnam Air Force, he has been displaced at the fall of Saigon in 1975. He has a choice to go and take a helicopter and pick up his wife and two kids or save a bunch of refugees with his best mate,” says Will. Mixing kung fu, rapping, dancing and, at times, swinging from billboards, the role was the most challenging experience of his life. The production was a meaningful one for Will who has Vietnamese heritage, and it was also the first time his father would see him perform. Along with his passion for performing arts, Will has been fostering his passion for animals since year nine when he started working in a vet clinic as a receptionist. In his early 20s, while juggling his arts/law degree ahead
of his dance career taking off, he worked in an aquarium helping customers care for their pets. Working as a TV presenter, his program was axed, and while living off modelling and acting contracts, Will saw a position for an aquarist role at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra. Making it through a few rounds of interviews, he thought it would be best to be upfront about his intentions. “I made it clear to the company that I really wish to pursue a career in the arts industry and I’ve accrued all these wonderful accolades in doing so.” While he wasn’t offered the aquarist role, Will was offered a role as an education officer, where he ran tours for the Zoo and Jamala Wildlife Lodge. From there, he was moved into a causal keeping role in the aquarium before being placed with the native animals. He remains the natives’ zookeeper and is also the Zoo’s vet clinic manager. “I’m so passionate about the work I do at the Zoo and the company, an iconic Canberra establishment. Our job is to make people smile and walk away with just a shred of conservation that they can permeate into the greater community,” he says. Extended version online at canberradaily.com.au. feature Bruton Basketball Foundation
Cal Bruton
Bruton Basketball Foundation founder Cal Bruton believes basketball is a great way to bring out the best in people and to bring people together.
NBL legend invites everyone to ‘Take a Shot’
B
ruton Basketball Foundation founder Cal Bruton talks about the ‘Take a Shot’ campaign ahead of the inaugural World Basketball Day on 21 December.
What does taking a shot mean to you, and how has basketball influenced your ability to take shots, both on and off the court? Basketball has a profound impact on my ability to take shots, both on and off the court, shaping my approach to challenges and opportunities. On the court, the physical act of taking a shot involves a combination of skill, focus, and confidence. The precision required to sink a basket mirrors the discipline needed to navigate life’s obstacles. What I have faced in my personal and professional life is thanks to the strength I gained from the game of basketball. Me taking a shot at moving to Australia for the NBL is a great example of where taking a shot can lead you! How would you encourage others to take a shot – whether it’s a literal basketball shot or a metaphorical leap towards their goals? Encouraging others to take a shot, literally or metaphorically, involves instilling confidence, emphasising the value of risk-taking, and highlighting the potential for growth. Just as in basketball, where taking a shot is a fundamental aspect of the game, encouraging individuals to
embrace challenges and opportunities is crucial for personal and professional development. Remind them that every shot, regardless of the outcome, is an opportunity to learn, improve, and build resilience. Encourage a mindset that embraces failure as a stepping stone towards success. In the broader context of life, taking a metaphorical shot involves stepping outside one’s comfort zone, pursuing aspirations, and facing uncertainties with courage. Ultimately, the key lies in inspiring a mindset that views challenges as stepping stones to success and recognises the inherent value in taking bold and purposeful shots at one’s aspirations. Can you share a story about a significant moment when taking a shot led to a positive change or outcome in your life? Since I was a kid and lost my Dad at seven years old, I have always had to ‘take shots’ to survive, support my family and become the professional sportsman that I grew into. My most game-changing shot was coming to Australia to promote the NBL. I was one of the first imports to come from the USA to help promote the NBL. I am proud to be a Hall of Famer of the NBL and to be part of such an integral part of the NBL’s history here in Australia. It led me down many positive pathways and I even have represented Australia by taking that shot so many years ago to move here.
What does inclusivity look like in the context of the ‘Take a Shot’ campaign, and how can basketball serve as a platform for bringing diverse communities together? The Take a Shot campaign is all about inclusivity, teamwork, collaboration, celebrating the great game of basketball. It has no bias – you can walk up to anyone on a court and say, ‘Hey, can I have a shot?’ The next minute you got two strangers coming together playing the game or just shotting around. We want to connect everyone, by sharing each other’s clips of taking a shot, writing positive comments and be proud to be part of the basketball community. Basketball serves as a powerful platform for unity among diverse communities by transcending cultural, social, and economic boundaries. The inclusive nature of the sport provides a common ground where individuals from various backgrounds can come together, share a common passion, and build connections. How successful has the ‘Take a Shot’ campaign been to date? We are loving all the support, amazing messages and the awesome clips coming through. These are coming from all over the world! We are loving this … so much positivity! We want to see more! If you have been thinking about it or haven’t had time, make the time to enter our Take a Shot … Making a shot campaign. We want to celebrate world basketball day INDIVIDUAL CORPORATE CHALLENGE CHALLENGE together. Take a Shot … Making a Shot! Scan the QR code to be a part of it.

WITH BILL STEFANIAK AM RFD FORMER ACT OPPOSITION LEADER
PNG Kumuls’ Canberra connection First, I was happy to hear Shane Rattenbury reject anti-Semitism – he might like to encourage his federal Green colleagues to do the same, for Australia’s sake. Rugby league has billed itself in Australia as “the greatest game of all”. As a young bloke, I found out early I was too clumsy to play Aussie Rules, and whilst a good hockey player, in Year 9, I joined my mates at Narrabundah High to play rugby (union) with Royals on Saturdays and rugby league with South Canberra on Sundays. In 1967, we won the daily double by winning the under-15 rugby grand final on Saturday, and then next day, the under-16 league grand final on the Sunday. Now, Papua New Guinea is the only country in the world that has rugby league as its national sport. It appears that the Kumuls – the PNG national team – could be admitted into the National Rugby League (NRL) in 2027. This is wonderful news. The only people who won’t be happy will be the Chinese Communist

Party, as it furthers Australia’s benevolent influence in our nearest neighbour and the South Pacific generally. The PNG citizens regard Canberra NRL legend (and current Australian coach) Mal Meninga as a living god. I bumped into Mal at Manuka the other day, and whilst being a bit disappointed to lose recently to New Zealand, Mal was certainly looking forward to helping the PNG team transition and get things squared away before joining the NRL. The Kumuls are always beaten by the Kangaroos [the Australian national rugby league team], but often by not all that much, and they certainly match it with other South Pacific league sides. As most of the players in those national league sides play in the NRL, the Kumuls will hardly be disgraced in their first year, and should be quite competitive. I think it would be a great idea if the Australian Rugby League Commission could spare Mal for a few months to go to PNG in 2026, and coach and
prepare them for the NRL. We are also lucky to have my very good mate and Canberra boy Alan Sullivan KC as an NRL commissioner. I spoke to Alan recently about the PNG side entering the NRL, and he tells me that he and the other commissioners are looking forward to it, and will do all they can to assist in working out the details (such as security, grounds, etc.). Indeed, I’d suggest to Albo (who, incidentally, has been quite helpful to date) to use our foreign aid to build the necessary infrastructure and support the Kumuls’ needs (such as a new stadium if necessary). Alan (apart from being in the aforementioned successful South Canberra under-16s) is regarded as one of the best lawyers in Australia, has been chair of the NRL judiciary, and is, amongst other things, a member of the international Court of Arbitration for Sport. It is great to have him and Mal involved with the NRL in all this. I look forward to going to PNG’s first game in Australia in 2027.

Congratulations to Leanne Castley, now Deputy Leader of the Canberra Liberals. I would suggest Elizabeth Lee now stand down as leader while there is still time to appoint a more focused and gutsy leader who can stand up to the rot Labor and Greens are currently dishing out to us in the ACT. What has Ms Lee done to promote the Liberals moving forward and to win the next election? My suggestion for leader would be Mark Parton. Mark is a tireless member and worker for the Libs and is always out there promoting the Liberal Party at every opportunity. He is in everyone’s face and extremely well known. He has the personality to attract votes, extremely knowledgeable, and not frightened to take on the hard tasks faced by experienced politicians. Mark is like a dog with a bone, never gives up on a good fight. I am certain Mark would have the endorsement of his party and colleagues to succeed as leader of the ACT Liberal Party. - Helen Jones, Nicholls
Grumbles from visitors The Canberra Region Tourism Awards are worthy of celebration, inclusive of those many behind-thescenes workers and volunteers who contribute to the success of many of our attractions. What some of us locals hear on the ground though, and surely worthy of noting by our Chief Minister, our elected MLAs, and various associated government agencies, is that too often visitors to Canberra share grumbles on issues including, but not limited to: exorbitant cost of car parking at tourist venues (the elderly or those with mobility issues unable to get a disabled car park) examples are that for over a week this can add up to many hundreds of dollars; where to find cafes open after 3pm (maybe more pop-up vans be permitted after lunch trade); lack of car parking in some areas; tourist information in
important central locations not just hotels; too many construction sites everywhere / eyesores / confusing detours. Our nation’s capital surely has an obligation to allow every individual visitor to experience our national places of importance not only for entertainment or to leave feeling that it is a privilege for those with deep pockets. We can do better cannot we, not just count the dollars? The argument that federal agencies have to take on that responsibility is not exactly appreciated. In some cities, mobile information officers provide valuable assistance to people, giving directions, transport information along transport routes, and at places of interest. - Ilona Crabb, Narrabundah
Building for the future ACT Greens transport spokesperson Jo Clay MLA (‘How do we build what we need for the future we want?’ Canberra Daily 30 November) says that we’re currently rolling out only one stage of light rail per decade. She says that at this rate, light rail won’t service all of Canberra until 2050. Light rail will never service all of Canberra’s 65 public transport routes. Ms Clay says that for any major decision on infrastructure, we should ask if there is something better we should build with those resources. For public transport between Civic and Woden, the answer is clear. The ACT Government estimates that bus rapid transit is twice as cost-effective as light rail, at half the cost. Bus rapid transit to Woden won’t have to wait for years for National Capital Authority approval, because it doesn’t use overhead wires. It will take people from Tuggeranong to Civic 10 minutes faster than if we build stage 2 of light rail. Passengers won’t have to change seats. - Leon Arundell, Downer (continued page 20) canberradaily.com.au

Greens’ Antisemitic trope As a Jewish Canberran I regret that while Shane Rattenbury (CW 30 November) claims the Greens repudiate anti-semitism, he has slipped into an antisemitic trope labelling Israel as apartheid and calling Israel an occupying state. Israel gives all its citizens – 7 million Jews and 2.7 million Arabs – equal status as citizens. Israeli Arabs are judges and members of the Parliament. They vote, conduct businesses and live where they please. They are not required to serve in the military but many volunteer to. Israel left Gaza in 2005. Occupation ceased at that point as the law only regulates an administration that directly controls civilians. The test is “effective control” and that condition has clearly not existed for 17 years. This is evidenced by the heinous 7 October attack on lsrael by 2,500 combatants, the 60,000 strong armed force based in the Gaza Strip, the 482 kilometres of underground terrorist infrastructure Hamas has built, diverting international aid for this purpose, and the relentless launch of thousands of indiscriminate rockets against Israeli civilians. Border security measures against Hamas terrorism is applied by two nations, Israel and Egypt, but that is not occupation. Israel accepts the application of customary occupation law in the West Bank. Israel has attempted many times since the 1947 UN partition plan to establish a Palestinian State. It is a temporary state of affairs until the day when the Palestinians can form a unified government, eliminate Hamas and its savage regime, and say yes to the creation of a State. - Athol Morris, President ACT Jewish Community, Forrest

Israelis to try to imply all Israelis are extreme. They’re not, especially in contrast with the Palestinian rulers. The supposedly moderate Palestinian Authority incessantly incites hatred of Israel through its media, mosques and schools, glorifies terrorists, including by naming streets after them, and pays terrorists jailed by Israel, or the families of those killed in the act, generous lifetime pensions. That is why so many Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces since October 7. The vast majority are either terrorists Israel is trying to arrest, or killed while fighting the Israelis. Hamas, which rules Gaza, makes it very clear that it will never accept anything less than the complete destruction of Israel and the death or ethnic cleansing of all of its Jewish people. In that context, it’s ironic he accuses Israel of genocide. Israel is targeting only Hamas, which hides behind and under its civilians. If Israel was committing genocide, it would hardly be warning civilians to evacuate before it attacks, which it has done with millions of phone calls, text messages and leaflets. The casualty figures, including the number of children allegedly killed, come from Hamas, and therefore can’t be trusted. He demands an immediate ceasefire, but Hamas has promised to repeatedly carry out attacks like its October 7 atrocities, so an immediate ceasefire would only result in further conflict, and more misery and death. Hamas must be completely uprooted for any chance of peace. Noel Baxendell claims Hamas only controls Gaza with Israel’s support, implying Israel does this to keep the Palestinians divided to prevent a two-state peace. Hamas took power in a bloody coup from Fatah in 2007. Israel allows Gaza to be funded for humanitarian reasons, and in the hope doing so would prevent Hamas from turning (continued page 22) canberradaily.com.au

As we head into summer, another bushfire season is top of mind. The devastating Black Summer bushfires were now nearly four years ago yet the memory is still vivid for many today. Multiple reviews outlined recommendations on what could and needs to be done better. When securing funding from the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program, the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF) explored how leadership could contribute. Together with Tharwa-based ARLF Associates Karim Haddad and Ali Wass, the Regenerate Capital Region leadership development program was conceived, targeting emergency stakeholders, government agencies and rural land carers. This wasn’t the typical professional development training to tick a box. It was an experiential learning program that pushed the 31 participants well beyond their comfort zone. It’s here they transition to a ‘growth zone’ and where change begins. They learned the value of adapting in the face of change, systems thinking, leading with difference and reflection.
The residential approach at Cuppacumbalong in Tharwa and the surrounding Namadji region, removing participants from everyday distractions, created deep bonds of trust and connection between participants, and a greater acceptance of diverse backgrounds, personalities and views. Collaboration is the result of this connection, the graduates already actioning their learning to be better prepared for future fire seasons. The core of what we do at the ARLF is exposing people to situations and ideas that will enable them to see a bigger picture, a different perspective and, ultimately, have the courage to put their ideas into action, bringing others with them. With this program, the objective was to build a strong leadership network that crosses borders and agencies to be able to respond to future bushfire emergencies while building long-term resilience in bushfire impacted communities. But it’s more than this. When future fire emergencies occur, this network will be invaluable – they won’t be just names and positions; they’ll know and trust each other and be able to work through the challenges in front of them and our communities. -Matt Linnegar, ARLF Chief Executive

Fresh fish and seafood for Christmas! Imagine a centrepiece of fresh, cooked prawns and crab with freshly shucked oysters and delicious seafood sauce, a smoked salmon salad wreath or baked whole fish on rice, drizzled with garlic lemon sauce ... FishCo typically sells around seven tonnes of fresh seafood every Christmas, with fresh stock arriving every day. “Years ago, you couldn’t get fresh fish in Canberra shops,” says Nicholetta Rigano, daughter of FishCo owners, John and Anthoula Fragopoulos. “Fishmongers would only get their stock every Monday from Sydney Fish Markets. “We had a takeaway shop called Sunset and Dad was frustrated that he couldn’t offer actual fresh fish to cook for the customers, so he got a van and started doing the run to Sydney every two days.” When customers started coming for the fresh fish instead of the cooked takeaway, Trata Fresh Seafoods was born, which ultimately became FishCo Fish Market. John and his family have now been bringing fresh fish and seafood to Canberra for over 40 years. They have offered wholesale for 30 years, with cold-chain
logistics that enable them to buy stock directly from trawlers and suppliers around the country. FishCo has developed a reputation for great customer service, including a ‘try before you buy’ policy for fresh oysters and cooked prawns, cleaning your whole fish for free, and offering free ice. Follow them on Facebook for recipes and tips. “Christmas is our favourite time of year. Stock keeps coming in through one door and customers through the other! We’ve got the little grandkids handing out baskets at the door and, some years, we’ve had customers lined up down the street – but they all get great customer service and a chance to taste their prawns. It’s a great vibe!” If you want to buy your fish and seafood early on Christmas Eve, FishCo will be open from 5am. Expect a variety of fresh prawns and oysters and lots of fresh fish. “We wish all our wonderful customers a wonderful festive season.” FishCo Fish Market, 19 Dalby St, Fyshwick T: 6239 6415 W: fishco.com.au FishCo Fish Market
Try Before You Buy! FishCo Fish Market offers the best variety and quality of fresh fish and seafood at the best prices. We encourage all customers to taste fresh oysters and cooked prawns before buying. Ask our friendly staff for advise about flavours and cooking methods!
Fish and Seafood Tips -A firm bladder area is the best indicator of a fresh whole fish. Contact with ice can dull the eyes of fish, even when fresh. -Fresh Fish should have a pleasant, ocean smell. -Never store fillets in direct contact with ice. Always remove packaging, cover and refrigerate. Cook and eat within two days. -
-The firmness of uncooked prawns can be an indicator of freshness, however some species are naturally softer than others. -Uncooked prawns should be stored in a bowl of ice and water (changed daily) in the fridge. Cook and eat within two days. -Always defrost fish and seafood in a covered bowl in the fridge. -Cover shucked Oysters and Smoked Trout with wet paper, then seal in a container or with wrap and refrigerate. CAUTION: Even ‘boneless’ fish may contain bones. Take care before eating and check carefully before feeding to children.

Deck the halls with farm-fresh market produce Think farm-fresh market produce and you just can’t go past Canberra’s favourite farmers market, the Capital Region Farmers Market. And right now, the region’s farmers, producers and makers are busy in the fields and kitchens – just like Santa’s elves – to ensure the best and freshest seasonal food is on offer for Canberrans at Christmas time. “It’s definitely a big time of year at Market when it comes to delivering the most delicious Christmas produce,” says Capital Region Farmers Market Manager, Sarah Power. “Buying from the Market is also a great way to give back at this time of year as our Market is owned and operated by the Rotary Club of Hall, and all proceeds go directly to supporting important and regional projects,” Sarah says. “For the star of your Christmas tables, we’ve got fresh seafood from the South Coast. Our friends from Narooma Seafood will be at the Market on 16 and 23 December, and for oyster lovers, we’ve got fresh Pambula oysters from Banjo’s Oysters every Saturday. “The Christmas hams are all lined up, and
there’s plenty of chicken, duck, lamb, pork and beef for your Christmas Day feasts,” Sarah says. For those who like to opt out of eating meats, the Market will of course be loaded up with the freshest vegetables, including many organic varieties, and this year’s summer fruit is outstanding. “We’ve had the best cherries with bountiful supply from Young and Nashdale, along with peaches, nectarines and apricots.” Sarah says that the local and regional bakers have been run off their feet to ensure a strong supply of Christmas puddings, fruit mince tarts and other sweet festive treats. And there are plenty of great gift ideas on hand for that foodie friend in your life – with olive oils and olives, fresh cultured butter, wines, spirits, chocolates and nuts. For those seeking a real Christmas tree, the Market will have live cut and potted Christmas trees this coming weekend and again on Saturday 16 December. And there’s plenty of fresh flowers and plant growers to brighten up the home and garden for your loved ones.
The Capital Region Farmers Market is open each Saturday 7-11.30am between now and Christmas, with the final Market for 2024 on Saturday 23 December. The Market will then take a short break for the holidays, returning on Saturday 13 January 2024. For more information, visit www.capitalregionfarmersmarket.com.au

Santa hat macadamia brownies Recipe by nutritionist Casey-Lee Lyons, Live Love Nourish @livelovenourishaus
Recipe and image courtesy of Australian Macadamias.
Moreish macadamias
Serves 8 4 eggs room temperature
Renowned for their buttery texture, soft crunch and versatility, macadamias are Australia’s native nut, evolving in the east coast rainforests around 60 million years ago. Take your festive entertaining up a notch with the added goodness of Australian macadamias this summer.
2/3 cup maple syrup or liquid sweetener equivalent
Honey, peach, macadamia frangipane tart
2 cups almond meal
Prep: 2 hrs 25 min (includes resting time) | Cook: 1 hr | Serves 12
2/3 cup macadamias
Australian Macadamias has teamed up with leading chef and restaurateur Matt Moran to create some delectable dishes easy to reproduce at home, including this frangipane tart Pastry tart base 180g butter 300g plain flour 90g icing sugar 1 egg 1 egg yolk Filling 35g honey (we used manuka) 225g unsalted butter 60g castor sugar 100ml cream ½ vanilla bean 550g macadamias, roughly chopped 300g peaches, finely sliced To prepare the pastry, cut the butter into a 1 cm dice. Place the butter into a bowl then add the flour and icing sugar. Rub the butter into the flour and icing sugar to form a crumble. canberradaily.com.au
Add the egg then mix together until a dough has formed. Wrap the pastry and place into the refrigerator to rest for 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 160°C. Roll the pastry out to a 5 mm thickness then line a 27 cm tart ring. Cover the pastry with a sheet of baking paper then top the baking paper with baking beans or rice, this will help keep the tart flat while cooking. Place into the oven to blind bake for 15 minutes then remove from the oven. Remove the baking beans/rice. Lightly beat the egg yolk then brush a thin layer around the surface of the tart. Return to the oven to cook for a further 5 minutes then remove and set aside. Increase the oven to 175°C. For the filling, place the honey, butter, sugar and cream in a saucepan. Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean then add the seeds to the mixture. Place the saucepan onto a medium to high heat and bring to the boil. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes then add the macadamia nuts. Stir to combine then cook for a further minute. Place the peach slices in the tart base and carefully pour the mixture over the top then place into the preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes then rotate the tart and cook for a further 10 minutes. The tart should be golden brown all over, otherwise bake for a little longer until this is achieved. Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the mould. Once cool, remove from the mould and cut into wedges. Serve with your favourite ice cream or just on its own.
1/2 cup coconut oil melted 2 tsp vanilla extract 2/3 cup cocoa powder or cacao 1 tsp baking powder Pinch sea salt To decorate Thick vanilla yoghurt of choice Large ripe strawberries Toothpicks Mini gluten-free marshmallows Pre-heat fan-forced oven to 175°C. In a mixing bowl whisk together eggs with maple syrup, coconut oil and vanilla. Add almond meal, cacao, baking powder and salt. Mix to combine. Fold through macadamias. Pour into a small, lined slice tin. Bake in oven for 25 mins or until cooked through (middle will be fudgy). Allow to cool. To assemble To make Santa hats, use a round cookie cutter to make circles (or cut into small squares). Add yoghurt to a piping bag. Pipe onto cooled brownie. Thread strawberry onto toothpick and top with marshmallow. Push through onto yoghurt to resemble a Santa hat. Store in fridge until ready to serve. time out Venus Mantrap on the cult appeal of classic cinema Cinephiles and moviegoers have flocked to the National Film and Sound Archive for their monthly dose of the silver screen frights and delights in the Cult Classics series. Luring viewers in is Venus Mantrap, a local artist and performer who kicked the series off in May this year as an exploration of 1970s, ’80s and ‘90s horror-adjacent cinema. As the year draws to a close so does the beloved fright night feature with the last instalment promising to be a night to remember in Prom Night at the NFSA: Carrie Special Screening at the NFSA on 16 December. Wanting to celebrate with the loyal audience, affectionately known as repeat offenders, Venus decided the last event of the season had to

be a party. “I thought it’s prom season or formal season as we call it here and Carrie is so beloved, people love the Stephen King book and the Brian De Palma adaptation is quintessential horror; it straddles the drama of adolescence, the horror of adolescence and the humour of adolescence really expertly,” says Venus. Returning to Arc Cinema next year, the 2024 Cult Classics line-up has just been released with viewers bound to be delighted. Kicking off in February with the steamy thriller Fatal Attraction (1987), the season celebrates a few anniversaries with Ghostbusters (November) and The Terminator (December) both turning 40. Also celebrating four decades of

Sponsor a tree, help a family in at Canberra Christmas Park
N
ow in its second year, Canberra Christmas Park is promising to be even bigger and brighter and to raise more funds for local families in need this December. Embrace the festive season with the incredible light and tree display, one very special guest, and heaps of family fun across three magical nights, 15–17 December 6–11.30pm. Moving to a more central location this year, the Christmas trees are interspersed with the established natives and exotics at the Croatian Catholic Centre in Farrer. Canberra Christmas Park co-founder Robert Azdajic says the move was for the ease of visitors, however, with the existing leafy canopy, the experience has become akin to a traditional Christmas village. Festive tunes played via speakers serenade visitors as you make your way around the nearly 400 Christmas trees adorned with over a million twinkling lights, to the awe-inspiring 17-metre tree at the park’s centre. Santa makes a quick stop
each night at 6.30–7.30pm to hand out gifts, receive letters, and pose for happy snaps on your smartphone. Embracing the Christmas spirit of giving, all the funds raised via sponsorship and entry fees will go to help families through Saint Anthony’s Bread. Families and businesses are encouraged to sponsor a tree with their names attached to the one of their choosing. Last year, some donors chose to add extra decorations to their trees. Prices start at a fully tax-deductible donation of $59 for a family to sponsor a 1.8m tree and $69 for a 2.1m tree, and businesses can donate $300 to sponsor a 2.1m tree. One generous donor can secure the 17m star attraction for $5,000. For visitors, entry to the event is a gold coin donation. The charity event is the brainchild of Robert Azdajic and his daughter Ruzica, who were called to action after hearing of a family going through tragedy during what is widely regarded as the happiest time of year. Eager to help, they dreamed up the community Christmas event with
a vision to keep all funds within the capital region to help local families. With hopes of one day raising $100,000 per year, Mr Azdajic knows this goal will take time to reach. He says the Canberra community is a generous one and has no doubt they will get there. The appointed charity, Saint Anthony’s Bread, was chosen as they take no administrative fees, meaning that all funds raised go directly to helping local families. Once the event has been completed, packed away and stored, the teams at Canberra Christmas Park and Saint Anthony’s Bread go through the list of families to decide how best to distribute the funds. If you know of a family in need who could be helped by the proceeds from Canberra Christmas Park, please send details to the team via the links below. Do you have the festive decorating bug? The team is looking for volunteers to help with setting up and taking down the incredible Christmas display. Contact the links below to find out how you can help. Come and share the festive cheer at Canberra Christmas Park, Croatian Catholic Centre, 262 Beasley Street, Farrer on 15-17 December 6-11.30pm. Entry by gold coin donation. time out (from page 40) they want to explore through the series. “A movie like A Nightmare on Elm Street, which is so single-handedly responsible for traumatising a generation of youth by unleashing that bogeyman on us; it’s funny, it’s frightening and that idea of the artist’s hand at play it’s so innovative – the production design, makeup, special effects. It is so disgusting at times, it is nauseating, but that’s why we love it and the dialogue, it’s so hammy. “I think that’s where the remake and so many contemporary films take a misstep, is that you can’t feel them, you can’t touch them or sense them in any way, shape, or form. Something like A Nightmare on Elm Street and the franchise and films that came after, especially in the ‘80s and ‘90s just had that playful quality and you can see that creative problem-solving taking place in front of you,” says Venus. Part of the vision for the series was to look at the craft of the pieces and the artist’s handiwork. The films explored this year have covered a range of interesting concepts and showcased
42

the artistry in pre-CGI special effects. Venus says there is a certain visceral response they feel to seeing these flicks on the big screen. “Contemporary cinema leaves me feeling a little flat; it doesn’t get my pulse racing, a lot of computer-generated images to me feel like we’re watching cartoons and I feel really detached,” Venus says. Understanding some of the films being screened might look dated or fake, Venus says they are amazing to watch and to see the innovation that took place through the filmmaking process. Last month’s screening of An American Werewolf in London opened up a conversation relating to more modern craft. “Someone after the movie likened the transformation of David to the artwork of Patricia Piccinni, so those correlations and those insights have been really interesting.” Ahead of each screening, Venus introduces each film to provide some context into the significant part it holds in cinematic history. This could be a milestone birthday, the filmography it sits within, or the themes and how they related
to the time it was made and the present. “The ideas being unpacked in a movie like Robocop, which you can take on one level as a shoot ‘em up action film, but in the context of here and now, when we screened that everyone is talking about AI. In that point in time, the conversation was about the writers’ strike in Hollywood.” Autumn at Cult Classics hosts a Season of the Witch miniseries featuring the 2018 reimagining of Susprisa, the iconic teen flick The Craft (1996), and a 35mm screening of Rosemary’s Baby (1968), the oldest film to be featured in the series. Other highlights include 35mm screenings of Eyes Wide Shut (1999) and Natural Born Killers (1994), and this writer’s personal favourite horror movie, the 1986 remake of The Fly. Best Australian Political Cartoons 2023 edited by Russ Radcliffe Scribe, $35 Those after some humour to finish off 2023 will appreciate this annual collection by Russ Radcliffe of the best Australian political cartoons of the year. From the referendum to Robodebt to rising interest rates and greedy consultants, the cartoons cover all the highs, and lows, of the political year. There is probably a stronger focus on international issues this year, but there is a good David Pope cartoon which cleverly ties together Robodebt, Kathryn Campbell and AUKUS. The cartoons range from the funny to the satirical to the reflective and the sad, and will make for great post-Christmas lunch reading.

Colonial Artist S. T. Gill by Doug Limbrick Hachette, $34.99 Canberra historian Doug Limbrick’s Colonial Artist S. T. Gill is a beautifully presented book on a now largely forgotten artist. From 1838 to 1880, S. T. Gill produced thousands of watercolours that reflected the buildings and the social history of Australia during the period, including on the Victorian goldfields. As well as being visually appealing, his vibrant watercolours provide a vivid and unique insight into the daily lives of ordinary Australians. Limbrick skilfully places the paintings in their historical context and traces the trajectory of Gill’s tragic life. This is a marvellous book for those interested in Australian art and history.

In a once-thriving mining community in County Durham, Syrian refugees get rehomed amongst a group of disgruntled locals. Amateur photographer Yara (Ebla Mari) has her treasured camera broken in the tussle, and soon approaches local publican TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner) for help. Director Ken Loach brings his team of regulars along for his swansong. Based in the same year as Loach’s I, Daniel Blake and Sorry We Missed You, the movie serves as an end to a trilogy providing a social commentary on an England facing Brexit; what it means to be British, and the harsh reality experienced by many that may have swayed their xenophobic allegiances. While not as hard-hitting as Loach’s previous entries, the movie still provides enough social grit for our characters’ plights to be felt. At 44

the last bastion of a time long gone, the local community becomes more disrupted as they perceive a new community coming into their hard-earned one with relative ease. Gifted with homes, supplies and toys, the locals conversely struggle to even pay for their children’s food. After being turned away from using the pub’s uninsured hall for a community meeting to discuss the changes, the locals are further stirred by Ballantyne’s decision to host a Syrian community food hall instead to bring peace to the town and to provide some desperately needed food. Verdict: While a more developed exploration of the community’s growing empathy for their new neighbours would have served a more satisfying climax, the movie is solid as oak. 3 stars. - Luke McWilliams themovieclub.net canberradaily.com.au

Cortisol: What is it and why is everyone talking about it? What is cortisol?
Cortisol is a hormone released by your adrenal glands in response to threat. The threat could be tangible, like a car swerving in front of you on the road, or a perceived threat, like receiving a worrying work email. The flow-on effect of cortisol is to mobilise the energy we need to confront or get away from danger by increasing blood glucose levels and diverting circulation away from digestion and into our muscles, so we have energy to run away or fight. Whilst cortisol is a gift from evolution that’s designed to keep us safe, in a modern context, where we are continuously dealing with low-level threats, it can lead to relentless triggers of our survival mechanism with unintended consequences.
Flow and balance
Our cortisol levels fluctuate throughout the day. Ideally, they rise when we first wake up and fall as we drift off to sleep, although chronic stress can keep our cortisol levels both unnaturally high as
well as out of rhythm, leading to a cascade of health consequences. Persistently high cortisol levels may weaken our immune system, create the conditions for systemic inflammation, as well as raise blood sugar levels and blood pressure, and contribute to weight gain. Cortisol imbalances can lead to an inability to fall asleep at night as we need cortisol levels to decrease so we can access states of rest, resulting in fatigue and irritability. Additionally, some mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression and PTSD, are associated with cortisol imbalances. Because of the many adverse health outcomes linked to cortisol imbalance, it can be easy to blame cortisol for almost everything. However, there are reliable tests that can track your cortisol levels throughout the day to determine whether cortisol is a contributing factor. So, if you’d like to be sure, talk to your holistic GP or naturopath to get some testing done.
THE HAIR INSTITUTE by the r clinic
Getting back in your groove
Not surprisingly, because we are talking about ways to counter stress, studies have shown that yoga and mindfulness interventions such as meditation may help lower cortisol levels. The efficacy of acupuncture too is well established in countering stress. Exercise is also helpful for regulating our physiological response to stress. When we raise our heart rate during exercise and lower it afterward, we retrain our bodies to activate and shut down our stress response appropriately. Cold exposure therapies work the same way by retraining our physiological response to stress. The more we understand about cortisol, we can see both the potential pitfalls of cortisone imbalance as well as the opportunities to harness this knowledge to support our wellbeing. Editor’s note: This wellbeing column provides information that is general in nature. Please always refer to your preferred health professional for advice suited to your personal healthcare requirements.

home Better watch out for ‘Christmas tree syndrome’ Whether you put up a plastic or pine tree this year, the National Asthma Council Australia is warning people with asthma and allergies about the risk of Christmas tree syndrome. Christmas tree syndrome is an allergic reaction to real or artificial trees and can cause wheezing, sneezing, coughs, sore eyes and even potentially serious asthma attacks. First identified in 1929, when several patients’ asthma worsened in a hospital after Christmas trees were erected in the ward, Christmas tree syndrome is estimated to affect about 6 per cent of people. Artificial trees can be a safe alternative but, if used year after year, they accumulate dust or mould, which may be invisible to the naked eye. The National Asthma Council Australia Sensitive Choice program has these
tips to help keep your festive season free of wheezing and sneezing: Live Christmas tree in your home • Hose down your live tree before you bring it into the house to help to wash off the allergens • Cut 2.5cm off the bottom so you can water the tree and it will stay in a reasonable condition without drying out too quickly but remember not to try that with electric lights! • Make sure to take the Christmas tree out before the 10 lords a-leaping arrive! • If you notice increased asthma or allergy symptoms, move your tree outside. Artificial Christmas tree in your home • Give it a good shake outdoors before you put it up inside

Artificial or real pine? Either way, your Christmas tree can cause allergic reactions, the National Asthma Council Australia warns.
• Unpack your tree and decorations outside and vacuum them as you get them out of the box • Wipe down your artificial tree, wreaths and ornaments with a damp cloth to remove the dust • When you pack your tree and
decorations away, use airtight plastic bags and sealed boxes so they collect less dust. For more information on asthma and allergies visit sensitivechoice. com or download the Christmas Tree Syndrome Fact Sheet at nationalasthma.org.au

Two-storey gem in the heart of Belconnen Page 26 Halford Crescent This two-storey, four-bedroom home on a spacious 806 sqm block in Page has been designed with family living in mind. On the ground floor, you’ll find the family bathroom, powder room and laundry, a dedicated study nook, living and dining rooms, and a rumpus room or fifth bedroom. The updated kitchen with gas cooking is the heart of the home. Upstairs are four bedrooms, one with spacious built-in robe, and a bathroom. “The design is quite unique,” say agents, Troy Thompson and Jake Bunday. “The top floor was added on in 1975 to give the residence more bedrooms and a multi-purpose room. I feel like the design is from a Dutch architect; many of buyers have said that.” 48
07 December 2023
One of their favourite things about 26 Halford Crescent is that the “house is set back from road and the front hedges give you a private front yard so the kids could play at both the front and back.” The low-maintenance landscaped gardens offer plenty of space for playing and entertaining, while the above-ground swimming pool provides hours of summer fun and relaxation. “The property has character,” the agents say. “It’s not your normal typical floor plan in Belconnen, and the established gardens plus the pool just tops it off.” And when it comes to location, “Page is a wonderful suburb full of young families and so central to Belconnen with only a short drive to Canberra City,” they say.
“There are generally not many sales in the suburb, which means it’s tightly held because residents love it so much.” Contact the agents to arrange an inspection. 4 EER Price View Agent Mob Agent Mob

WIN! Two Tickets to Greece film passes
WIN! Cozze Pizza Oven Making healthy, home-made pizza just got much easier with the introduction of the Cozze 17” Gas Pizza Oven and Cozze 13” Electrical Pizza Oven. These new pizza ovens complement the existing Cozze 13” gaspowered pizza oven. All three Cozze pizza oven models are supplied with a solid LFGBapproved cordierite pizza stone, heat up in 20 minutes, and once preheated, each can cook a pizza in just two minutes. The 13” models can cook a 34cm diameter pizza, while the 17” can fit 42cm diameter pizzas. CW readers have the chance to win a Cozze 13” gas-powered pizza oven, valued at $399. canberradaily.com.au
Three fabulous femmes - Laure Calamy, Olivia Côte and Kristin Scott Thomas - star in the wildly entertaining new comedy about estranged childhood friends who tentatively reunite for a trip to the Greek Islands. Recently divorced, Blandine is struggling to find her footing again. So, when her former best friend Magalie suddenly resurfaces, she allows herself to be spontaneous for a change. The two will take the trip they dreamed of as teenagers to Greece, but as they head off towards their destination, it’s soon apparent that Magalie’s very different approach to life could lead Blandine to her breaking point. Two Tickets to Greece (M) is the perfect big-screen cinematic escape for this holiday season – and CW has 5 x in-season double passes to be won.
