A Contemporary Masterpiece 566 Aguajito, Carmel

Tres Paraguas

Translated as “Three Umbrellas, Tres Paraguas includes three giant rectangular roofs of corrugated Corten Steel mounted on 30x30 inch square columns of Douglas fir 26 feet high, stiltedstanding free of the 3 buildings below. The buildings are modern Pueblas, self-roofed, heavily stuccoed in three earth tones, with 18 foot walls and giant 12 foot sliding glass doors that pocket into the end walls, allowing for a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

The buildings span 12,482 square feet with a half-acre enclosed courtyard to the south and a parapeted terrace to the north overlooking the Monterey Bay. Built on the top of Gentry Hill in Jacks Peak, Carmel, on its own five-acre pinnacle, the home affords 360-degree views of the entire Monterey Bay and the forests of Jacks Peak Park. On a clear day you can see all the way to Santa Cruz from the terrace off the kitchen/living area.

Facing south overlooking the forests of Jacks Peak; a landscape of oaks and pines, to which were added Canary palms, Mediterranean palms, a Washingtonian palm, multitudes of agave, and New Zealand flax as ground cover - all giving a strong visual texture to the hillside terrain, there is a raised pool and the Cantina outdoor kitchen and bar.

Tres Paraguas was built with the expertise of many skilled artisans and craftsmen, the exquisite interior and exterior custom finishes and details showcases the work of many extremely talented people. Resources were local and sustainable when possible, resourced from eco-conscious suppliers, complemented by products and materials sourced worldwide from the best suppliers. Three years in the planning and four years to completion, this exceptional residence exists in its own private world - offering luxury, privacy and a unique approach to California contemporary design.

The Tres Paraguas team worked together to create a residence that uniquely suits its terrain, existing trees were preserved, and the environment was respected during its construction. The teams’ deep respect for the natural beauty and splendor of the setting are reflected in every aspect of design, planning and creation. The Designer, Ron Mann, has been the award recipient as one of the top 100 designers in “Architectural Digest” several times.
