GENERAL CAMP INFORMATION PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Canterbury’s Summer Programs offers camps from June 6 –July 29, 2016. Canterbury’s programs are designed to create an exciting, safe environment for campers to have an unforgettable week of fun. Camps are packed with activities guaranteed to keep your child smiling! Camps focus on a variety of indoor and outdoor activities including theme weeks, arts and crafts, sports, dance, reading, games, interest centers, local attractions and much, much more. These unique experiences and excursions will help build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, foster friendships and create new memories for your adventurous camper. We are glad to be a part of your 2016 Summer fun, and we look forward to having you and your family be a part of our Canterbury community. Summer is just around the corner, so register today!
CONVENIENT PAYMENT PLAN Canterbury has made paying for our camps even easier with a monthly installment option for those who pay by credit card. A nonrefundable $5 fee per camp session will be added to the payment plan (Just $1.66 per session over three payments).

If your child is scheduled for a 9:00 am camp you can drop your camper as early as 8:00 am in the café and we will escort your camper to his/her theme camp for the day.
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm - Supervised Lunch
If you schedule your child for a theme camp both in the morning and the afternoon, we have supervised lunch areas where he/she can eat lunch and relax in between the two sessions.
Extended Day
Extended Day is available from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm, M - F, for an additional $25/week. EXCEPTIONS: Week Five, July 5 - 8, T - F, for an additional $20.

WHO RUNS CANTERBURY’S LIL’ CRUSADER CAMP?
Canterbury hires qualified teachers, alumni and student counselors who will nurture, educate and entertain your children.
WHAT AGES MAY ATTEND LIL’ CRUSADER CAMP?
Lil’ Crusader Camps is for children entering PK4 through grade 5.
WHAT WILL MY CHILD DO ALL DAY?
Each week has a theme around which your child’s activities will be based, such as Ice Adventures, Viking Voyage, and Sticky Situations. Structured time will be set aside each day for the week’s theme and the kids will have time to rest, run, play and enjoy the summer in this full- or half-day program.
WHAT ARE THE DATES, HOURS AND COSTS?
Lil’ Crusader Camp runs June 6 – July 29, 2016. A one-time $50 registration fee per child covers t-shirt, supplies and snacks. Lil’ Crusader Camp payment is due at the time of registration. There is limited space, so get registered early for this summer’s fun activities! FULL DAY | 8:00 am – 5:30 pm $200 per child. No refunds will be given for days absent. HALF DAY | 8:00 am – 1:00 pm OR 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm $115 per child per week NOTE: Students age 4–11 who attend a themed camp may begin or finish the day in Lil’ Crusaders Camp for an additional $115/week. They will be escorted to or from his/her themed camp if needed. Most camps take place on the Canterbury Knowlton Campus. Calling all bookworms, kitchen crafters and Hollywood actors! This camp centers on reading, food, and dramatic fun. Each day’s activities will be story-theme driven. Campers need to bring their hearty appetites, eager minds and dramatic flair to the camp kitchen. We will be mixing up some creative recipes. The only items needed? Fiction, food and friends! NOTE: Camp will be held at the Hough Campus, 1200 Snell Isle Boulevard NE, 33704.
What’s going on inside your head? Watching Disney’s® Inside Out’s five emotions and incorporating Edward de Bono’s six thinking hats (positive, negative, emotional, factual, creative and processing) we will journey inside our minds to discover our emotions and how we make decisions. This will be an incredible week with fun games, crafts, and activities to help us understand and remember how to make the best decisions.
KIDDING AROUND YOGA
The methods we use in a KAY™ class are insanely creative and will keep your child practicing yoga for years to come! Singing, dancing, massaging, jogging and storytelling are just a few of the techniques we use, but the possibilities are endless.
LEGO®
Come one, come all, LEGO® enthusiasts! This program will allow campers to design and build superstructures and LEGO® environments utilizing a hands-on, teamwork-based approach. Each camper will create an individual project and work with others to build an electric monorail set for all to enjoy. There will be plenty of time for freestyle building and exploring the creative world of LEGOS®. Let your imagination run wild; bring your building brain and your enthusiastic hands because the sky’s the limit in the fun, imaginative world of LEGOS®.

There is an additional supply fee of $35 for this camp.

WEEK ONE: JUNE 6 - 10 PM CAMPS ROBOTIC DESIGN TIME: 1 pm – 4 pm CHALLENGES Using the design engineering process, build a robot that is capable of picking up objects and moving them across the room, drawing a line, and organizing objects by color. This camp is appropriate for anyone interested in robotics. Whether you have previously built robots or you are brand new to them, you will be challenged and pushed to problem solve and create functional robots. We will be building and programming with the LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 kits.
SOCCER
Coach Carpenter, Canterbury’s Varsity Girls Soccer Coach, is offering a week long CO-ED soccer camp. The camp will focus on footwork, positional play, crosses, distribution, agility work, and a number of other techniques to develop soccer skills. Participants will get the opportunity to learn the game of soccer while having fun! Players should bring soccer cleats, sneakers, shin guards, a water bottle, and sunscreen. Snacks and all equipment will be provided.

WEEK ONE: JUNE 6 - 10 FULL DAY TIME: MARINE SCIENCE 9 am – 4 pm Do you love marine science and ocean life? Spend a week at the first Cousteau Diver partner school in the world and learn about Tampa Bay’s ecosystems and organisms. This camp combines hands-on marine science labs with ocean-inspired arts and crafts activities. Lessons include ecology, marine biology and marine geology learned through field trips to exciting local marine environments and educational centers including the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the Florida Aquarium, Weedon Island, Fort DeSoto, Shell Key, and Caladesi Island. Some of these trips are dependent on the weather conditions and/or number of campers. Ms. LoDico will drive all campers. In addition, many of these field trips have a water component to them. MULTI-WEEK – JUNE 6 – JULY 15 1.0 credit course In previous courses, students have been introduced to the basic concepts and ideas of Algebra. Now, in Algebra II, students will use knowledge learned in the past to solve more advanced problems. Throughout the course, students will study topics such as: equations and inequalities, linear equations and functions, quadratic functions and factoring, polynomials and polynomial functions, rational exponents and radical functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and rational functions.
WRITING I
TIME: Virtual Course 0.5 credit course GRADES: 9 – 12 INSTRUCTOR: Donnamarie Hehn, Director of College Guidance/ Upper School Teacher PRICE: $1000
MULTI-WEEK – JUNE 6 – JULY 29 This is a virtual course. Upon successful completion, the student will earn 0.5 credit toward graduation requirements. This Expository Writing course introduces students to a variety of essay forms including description, narration, analysis, process, classification, definition, comparison and contrast, cause and effect, and persuasion. Students engage in activities such as pre-reading, active reading, pre-writing, writing and revising of multiple drafts, and peer evaluating. Each student is individually evaluated and is given specific goals to achieve before and after the course is completed.
WRITING II
MULTI-WEEK – JUNE 6 – JULY 29 This is a virtual course. Upon successful completion, the student will earn 0.5 credit toward graduation requirements. Working with faculty advisors, seniors must research a topic, develop a thesis, write a statement of purpose and method, write a 15 – 20 page argumentative paper and create a project that will be presented to and evaluated by a team of faculty members. Previous projects have included: • A solar-powered boat • A booklet outlining adolescent behavioral problems • A presentation on the integration of arts education into a middle school curriculum, • A documentary on the homeless. Does your child like games such as Angry Birds? Does he/she ever wonder how that game was created? How the character knows to go forward when the up arrow is clicked? Coding is the new buzz word, and it is actually easy enough for kids to learn! This camp offers an introduction to computer science and programming concepts. Campers will learn the basics of coding through creative, hands-on lessons, while also writing their very own lines of codes on the computer.
MARINE STUDIES
Do you love marine science and ocean life? Come spend a week with the first Cousteau Diver partner school in the world and learn about Tampa Bay’s local ecosystems and organisms in our Cousteau Center for Marine Studies. This camp combines a variety of hands-on marine science labs with related art and craft activities.
MINECRAFT®
You’re alone in a mysterious new world, full of hidden dangers. You have only minutes to find food and shelter before darkness falls and the monsters come looking for you. What do you do? Learn how to find resources; make a shelter; craft tools, armor, and weapons; and protect yourself from monsters. And travel to new planets with your own spaceship, explore dungeons, and build space stations with friends using mod Galacticraft. Play with other children in the camp under a safe server. Participants must have membership username and passcode.
SOFTBALL SKILLS
Whether you are a beginner or are ready to take your game to the next level, learn the fundamentals of what makes a great softball player. Camp will be broken into small age- and skillappropriate groups. We will cover throwing, catching, receiving, hitting, bunting, base-running and all aspects of fielding in an action-packed week. The week ends with a slip-n-slide challenge. Campers should wear athletic attire, cleats and sunscreen daily.

WACKY WORLD OF A MAD SCIENTIST

Ready to be a master cake decorator? Learn the basics of making icing from scratch, the tricks to icing cupcakes and cakes, and numerous skills for decorating, including original design, flowers, stars, borders, and writing. Students can join Lucy Yeager and learn how to level, torte and ice cakes as well as decorate cookies and cupcakes.
Let’s make some slime, construct a volcano, and create some crazy bouncy balls. Campers will get hands-on science experience and learn the relevance of combining elements to create different results. Campers will love exploring the world of elements and how they impact one another in this exciting camp of wild, mad scientist experiments.
WEEK TWO: JUNE 13 - 17 PM CAMPS BASEBALL
The baseball camp will concentrate on the fundamentals of baseball: fielding, hitting, pitching, base running, etc. The camp will also incorporate some FUN baseball games and scrimmage sessions. Safety on a baseball field will also be emphasized.
BRICKS FOR KIDZ – AMUSEMENT PARK
Get your ticket to ride at Bricks 4 Kidz® very own Amusement Park! Campers will build a new ride each day, learning how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock. Then they will take what they have learned to design their own thrills and challenges. Motorized models maximize the action and the fun. Each camp day includes carnivalthemed games, group challenges, model-building, and more. *All Campers take home a custom mini-figure at the end of the week.

You’re alone in a mysterious new world, full of hidden dangers. You have only minutes to find food and shelter before darkness falls and the monsters come looking for you. What do you do? Learn how to find resources; make a shelter; craft tools, armor, and weapons; and protect yourself from monsters. And travel to new planets with your own spaceship, explore dungeons, and build space stations with friends using mod Galacticraft. Play with other children in the camp under a safe server. INTRO TO OCEAN EXPLORATION WITH ROVS (Remotely Operated Vehicles)
Dive into the exciting world of deep sea exploration and ROV engineering. ROV stands for remotely operated vehicle, a.k.a. underwater robots! In this camp students will learn all about ROVs, design, construct a ROV, and pilot their own ROV by the end of the week.

Coding is the new buzz word, and it is actually easy enough for kids to learn! This camp offers an introduction to computer science and programming concepts. The program is open to children with or without previous sign language knowledge. Campers will learn signs for numbers, letters and common vocabulary words. They will then have the opportunity to practice what they’ve learned through fun activities including games, stories, songs and skits.

Join us for a morning full of dinosaur stories, crafts, and sounds. Be sure to bring your larger- than-life imaginations! We’ll be filling our day by digging for dinosaur bones and making our own fossils. You might even catch a glimpse of us traipsing around the Jurassic jungles of Canterbury sporting our dinosaur costumes. Operation: Dinosaur Adventure has begun, future paleontologists are invited to bring a sense of adventure and their best dinosaur sounds and imaginations because a-stompin’ we will go. We are sure to make a racket because, after all, that’s what dinosaurs do.
HOOLA MONSTERS®
Hoola Monsters® believes in the power of play and creative expression. Our handmade hoops provide a great mechanism for kids to get fit while instilling a sense of leadership, teamwork and confidence. Campers will have a chance to design and create their own handmade hoops. A variety of tricks, games and exercises intended to promote balance, coordination and cardiovascular endurance will be included. At the end of camp, kids will have a chance to show off their new skills and choreography in a hoop dance showcase.

Do you love marine science and ocean life? Spend a week at the first Cousteau Diver partner school in the world and learn about Tampa Bay’s ecosystems and organisms. This camp combines hands-on marine science labs with ocean-inspired arts and crafts activities. Lessons include ecology, marine biology and marine geology learned through field trips to exciting local marine environments and educational centers including the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the Florida Aquarium, Weedon Island, Fort DeSoto, Shell Key, and Caladesi Island. In Photo Composition, campers will learn how to take better photos using their eyes, not just their camera settings. While a good DSLR camera helps, great photos can be taken on an iPhone using basic elements of photography such as leading lines, the rule of thirds, pattern and symmetry, viewpoint, depth of field, and framing. Students will need to bring their own digital camera or mobile device with a camera.

Some of the activities included will be jewelry making, modeling, and fashion designing, cooking, physical activities such as yoga and dance, acting, and safety and responsibility on social media networks such as Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat.

This beach themed dance camp will include ballet basics, technique and fun choreography in jazz and hip hop, and an introduction to international rhythms with Zumba Fitness, Friday ends with a visit from the Dance Dance Revolution gaming truck, and a short dance performance for family and friends! Kids should dress in comfortable clothes for dancing and stretching, such as leggings, shorts, t-shirts, dance wear/gym wear, etc... Sneakers should be worn for hip hop and Zumba, and kids may bring ballet or jazz shoes if they have them. (No dancing in flip flops or sandals.) We will discover how to be a spy and decipher codes using espionage secrets, and learn different ways to send messages. Use Morse code to send secret transmissions and learn how to interpret it. In the Science of Sport, jump right into the science of athletics and test what your toes have to do with tennis and what your feet have to do with football. We will test your lung capacity and crash eggs. Then we blast off, launching all types of rockets including engine, air, and waterpowered ones. Test soil for “Martian” life, experiment with space suit design, and get a taste and feel for what and how astronauts eat. You will experiment with different space forces and build your own rubber band-powered space shuttle to take home. Daily fun take-homes.

OCEAN EXPLORATION WITH ROVS (REMOTELY OPERATED VEHICLES)
Dive into the exciting world of deep sea exploration and ROV engineering in ROV Camp. ROV stands for remotely operated vehicle, a.k.a. underwater robots! Campers will learn all about ROVs, design and construct a ROV, and pilot their own ROV by the end of the week. Fieldtrips include MOSI, local waterways and local pools to test the ROV, campers will go swimming daily.

They’ll also be able to access the online version of the course after camp, including video tutori-als, interactive quizzes, and new challenges. Kids will learn the basics of 3D game design, including models, textures, volumes, lighting, and more as they create their game from start to finish. During camp, kids will use real game design principles as they design their game on the X, Y and Z axes to create an immersive 3D world. They’ll also learn to use our proprietary, age-appropriate game design software, OWL Game Creator, as they develop skills that will help them pursue game development at a professional level.

Camp will be structured with alternating creative activities both outside and indoors. There will be many opportunities for fun, friendships, and exploration. Our program is built to encourage students’ growing ability to make choices, work with others, and assume responsibilities while promoting positive school experiences and encouraging learning. Students will get a stress-free introduction to school routines, structure, and the learning environment. The goal is to help the campers become comfortable with the concept of school and what it entails, while having fun! They will explore the entire campus and get a taste of everything that school has to offer, including enrichment classes. NOTE: Camp will be held on Hough Campus, 1200 Snell Isle Boulevard NE, 33704.
