History of Encaustic Tiles ➔ Used for thousands of years under different names. ➔ Made with two colors of beeswax-based pigment. ➔ Older tiles could either be glazed or unglazed. ➔ Provide builders with a variety of benefits. ➔ Includes an exceptionally long lifespan.


Modern Encaustic Tile Construction Vibrant, elegant, and complex designs created with three unique layers referred to as the tile torte. ➔ The Top Layer is the color and design layer ◆ Handcrafted by an experienced artist to fit the client's unique specifications. ◆ Natural pigments are combined with marble dust and cement. ◆ Creates colors that will stand up to years of wear and tear.


➔ The Middle Layer is a combination of fine sand and cement ◆ Supports the upper layer. ◆ Creates a buffer between the base and the top. ➔ The Lowest Layer is made up of solid concrete ◆ Material is both strong and porous. ◆ Gives it incredible impact strength before and after the installation.


Tile Design Options and Specs ➔ Handmade to order. ➔ Colors and dimensions will have some variations. ➔ Thickness will be around 13mm.t ➔ Water absorption rate of just over 10 percent. ➔ Similar texture to black marble. ➔ A sealant will most likely be required. ◆ Should be treated with penetrating sealer followed by acrylic sealer.
