When I was still young and beautiful (sic!) I got into skateboarding I would spend most of my free time skating, pulling tricks and generally having fun. I was thinking that there was nothing better than skating But I was wrong –the best was skating to some “rad” music. And that’s when I discovered Suicidal Tendencies
Hailing from Venice, California, the home of street skateboarding, the band emerged during the flourishing punk rock scene of the early 1980s and immediately made waves on the metal scene with a unique fusion of punk, hardcore, and thrash metal.
They released their first, self-titled album in 1983 – the album became a cult classic due to the novel approach to the metal music and emotionally charged lyrics which spoke very loudly to youth of the era “Institutionalized” became an anthem of the generation, and lyrics where Mike Muir sings that “all he wanted was a Pepsi” became so iconic that even years later other bands (like, eg Limp Bizkit) referred to them
Their next album “Join the Army” brough more of the band’s signature style Songs like “War inside my head” and “Possessed to skate” soon became classics You should definitely check out the video for the latter one – an ultimate skate-party mayhem!
Current line up:
Mike "Cyco Miko" Muir – lead vocals
Dean Pleasants – lead guitar, backing vocals
Ben Weinman – rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Tye Trujillo – bass
Jay Weinberg – drums
Text by Mike MikhellEach album released by S.T. brough raw energy and mixture of styles. Some of my favourite songs? “I saw your mommy”, “Send me your money”, “How will I laugh tomorrow”, and many, many, many more.
Throughout the years the band recorded 14 albums, the lates one “Still Cyco Punk after all those years” released in 2018, which is a compilation of some old song in new arrangements
I still love to go back to their music – it not only influenced my musical taste, but also my whole lifestyle ST was always more than just music – it was comradery with fellow skaters, way of life, attitude.
The band’s line up changed over the years, many times Today only Mike Muir, lead singer and the founding member is left from the original line up But over the years some big names were sharing the stage with Mike, like Robert Trujillo (now Metallica), Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer), Brooks
Wackerman (now Avenged Sevenfold), Jimmy DeGrasso (who played with Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, David Lee Roth, any many more). And their latest addition: Jay Weinberg, who just recently has left Slipknot.
Even tough Suicidal Tendencies stopped recording and releasing albums they still play gigs and festivals. And their shows are definitely something to see live!
Interesting fact: Suicidal Tendencies had their social media profiles blocked on several occasions – people, without even checking the profiles, were reporting them as dangerous for promoting suicide, even though the band from the very beginning was advocating for mental health awareness.
So what happens when you have too many ideas and too much energy for just one project? Well, you start a side project. And that’s exactly what Suicidal Tendencies guys did Mike Muir, along with Robert Trujillo, Dean Pleasants, Adam Siegel and Stephen Perkins, took their punk-metal playing and mixed it up with… funk. Can such a mixture work? They proved that it can more than work – it can be something awesome!
With undeniable grooves and heavy riffs, they've managed to find the perfect balance between funk's infectious rhythm and metal's raw power. But don't be surprised to hear touches of punk, jazz, and other genres woven into their music as well.
Between 1991 and 2000 the band released 4 albums. It all kicked of with “The plague that makes your bootie move…It’s the Infectious Grooves”. The album has all you need to have some good fun – insane bass lines, heavy guitars, groovy drumming and humorous lyrics. The first album also introduced Sarsippius – a selfproclaimed funk guru And we can listen to his hilarious rants between songs An interesting fact about this album (or more precisely the first song “Therapy”) – the guys were recording in a studio and Mike mentioned that he’d love Ozzy Osbourne to do the vocals in the chorus. But as they did not know Ozzy, they treated this as a wishful thinking kind of thing. A couple of days later it turned out that Ozzy was at the same studio, and, cutting the long story short, he listen to the song, loved it, and recorded vocals for the “Therapy”. He even appeared in the video clip for the song.
Following positive reception of the first album the band recorded their second effort “Sarsippius’ Arc” where they continued their metal-punkfunk madness (with more hilarity from Sarsippius).
So if you are a metal head, who secretly likes to shake their booty, the Infectious Grooves will hit a sweet spot for you.
In 1994 the third album “Groove Family Cyco” came out and the guys, despite some lineup changes, were still going strong. Songs like “Violent and Funky” or “Cousin Randy” are testament to their funk-metal prowess and a wicked sense of humour (the video clip for Cousin Randy is just awesome).
In 2000 they released their last album to date “Mas Borracho” continuing on the Infectious Grooves path of being “funktastic”
Even though the band went on hiatus and stopped recording albums they have been still “kind of” active – playing festivals and concerts And this continues until this day – the band’s just announced a spring tour in Australia (well, it will be autumn there).
Line up:
Mike Muir - vocals
Dean Pleasants - guitar
Robert Trujillo - bass
Jim Martin - guitar
Brooks Wackerman - drums
Jay Weinberg – drums (touring)

The Sioux, also known as the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota, hold a significant place in the history and culture of North America. With a legacy dating back three thousand years, the Sioux are among the largest and most influential Native American tribes in the United States.
At the peak of their strength, the Sioux inhabited a vast territory spanning thousands of square miles across the Great Plains region. Their nomadic lifestyle revolved around hunting, gathering, and following the seasonal migrations of buffalo herds, which provided sustenance and materials for clothing, shelter, and tools.
One of the most striking aspects of Sioux culture is their rich tradition of artistry and craftsmanship. From intricately beaded clothing and accessories to elaborately decorated war bonnets and ceremonial regalia, Sioux art reflects the tribe's deep connection to the natural world and their spiritual beliefs.
In this edition, we have the privilege of showcasing some incredible art pieces created by Sioux artists. These works of art offer a glimpse into the vibrant and diverse artistic traditions of the Sioux tribe, ranging from traditional beadwork and quillwork to contemporary paintings and sculptures. Each piece tells a story, preserving the history, values, and cultural heritage of the Sioux people. Whether depicting scenes from tribal legends and folklore or capturing the beauty of the natural world, Sioux art is a testament to the creativity, resilience, and ingenuity of the tribe.
As we celebrate the artistry of the Sioux in this edition, we invite you to immerse yourself in their rich culture and heritage. Explore the intricate patterns, bold colors, and symbolic motifs that adorn each masterpiece, and discover the profound meaning behind every brushstroke and stitch.
Disclaimer: The artwork featured in this edition belongs to various artists, and while we have made efforts to identify and credit the creators, some pieces may be uncredited due to limited information. We respect the intellectual property rights of all artists, and any unintentional omission of credit is not intended to infringe upon their rights.
