I have seen so many printed magazines especially in the World of Body Art not selling anymore. Actually i thought it was a waste of money for the advertisers, so i wanted to make a magazine where we can track the readers numbers and give the advertisers a fair chance to be seen.

With that said i wish you all a good read and look into My Tattoo Inc. Enjoy!

It was in the early phase that i decided to make the magazine completely free of charge.
The only way this also could be a business was from the advertisers pockets.

VANILLA ICE

Along with Beastie Boys, 3rd Bass, and House Of Pain, Ice was one of the earliest white rappers to attain major success. Chuck D has credited Ice as a regional breakthrough, stating “He broke through in the mid-South, in a Southern area in Texas, in something that was kind of indigenous to that hip-hop culture down there.

Today Vanilla Ice is back in many tv projects and due to his love to ink we have the honor to have him on our very first cover.

MAINSTREAM TATTOO CONVENTIONS

Mainstream than ever.

I like that people don’t judge you anymore because of your tattoos.

Earlier on it was more a subculture but today it´s complete different.

The tattoos and ink has improved a lot over the years, also because of Mario Barth indeed when we speak about ink and colors.

Machines and techniques are also an important part of the development.

It´s fantastic to see what all the new artists are capable to create.

My Tattoo Inc:

Our magazine has from the start decided to focus a big deal on the conventions around the World.

How much have you been doing tattoo conventions in the past and do you get something out of visiting and working a show like that ?

Vanilla Ice:

I love to attend these tattoo conventions and I remember I did one some years ago with my friend Gene Simmons in New York.

We did some trophy delivery regarding some competitions and in the evening I got people to dance. Also the conventions made by Mario in the United States are fantastic.

I remember that I visited Liverpool and my girlfriend and I got a couple of nice small tattoos.

HOOKED ON INK

Vanilla Ice like to decorate so it was natural to be involved in the design when he got his tattoos.

Many of the tattoos is made by my friend Mario Barth and actually I got the change to do a tattoo on Mario, it was a horseshoe says the man who love the color tattoos and Mario has tested a lot of colors on me. (Mario is the founder of the World famous colors, named Intenze).

Vanilla Ice got his first tattoo “VIP” when he was 16 years old.

He got it done together with a friend when they where chasing the girls in the mall, playing the huge ghetto blasters and performed break danced. They did get some good money for it and quickly became very popular in town.

Reese is an award winning tattoo artist and fine artist

You may have seen her on SpikeTv hit show Tattoo Nightmares Miami as well as VH1’s Chicago Black Ink. She would consider herself a wanderlust; galavanting around the world with her tattoo machine in hand. She currently works in her private shop located in North County San Diego.

Reese had always been an art enthusiast, never truly experiencing organic artistry through painting, colored pencils, and tattoo machines until her early 20s. Although most would say that she had an innate ability to create, she would also account it to the blood, sweat, and tears she poured into every piece of art she had done throughout her formal training at Academy of Art University as well other private studios around Los Angeles.

A parasite for knowledge with a workaholic mentality, she still attends numerous art seminars and classes, where she continues to hone her skills. Her obsession with “wanting more” continue to be the keys that unlock her ever growing imagination.

SZCZECIN TATTOO CONVENTION

The 4th edition of Szczecin Tattoo Convention is behind us. It took place on the first weekend of October in Netto Arena. Szczecin Tattoo Convention is the biggest festival of tattoo art in Western Pomerania. Several dozens of artists from Poland, Germany, UK, Ukraine, Italy, Ireland and Scotland worked for two days in almost 100 exhibition stands.

Tattoo artists presented their works in 11 categories. Only two categories were for already healed tattoos. The other nine were for the works that were made during the convention.

The line-up was prepared for all our visitors no matter what age they are. The aim was to entertain but also to educate. You could learn about tattoos and their history. There was a special area called the hand poke, in which you could see the technique of tattooing without using electricity. Visitors could get their answers for important questions like: Does it hurt less? Does it heal faster? Can you relax or even fall asleep while being tattooed? Artists working with this traditional ‘hand poke’ method could answer these and many more questions.

The visitors could also see the history of tattoo art in the area of the Tattoo Museum from Gliwice. Piotr Wojciechowski, the benefactor of the Tattoo Museum, presented an exhibition of connection between seamen and tattoos. It was the first time in Poland when this topic was presented. Since the Age of Discovery seamen and tattoos are joined in people’s minds all over the world.

There were two scenes for all our performances such as: the show of air acrobatics including aerial hoop and aerial silk presented by Pole Dance Jungle Szczecin and Zodiak Aerial Dance Studio, fire show presented by The Rebel Chicks, group pole dance show, rock and hip-hop concerts, stand up performances and contests for visitors.

43 PAGE

Between the shows and music on stage you could go and get some tasty food in the food truck zone, play some popular games from the 90s and see the old cars from the Western Pomeranian Classic Cars Collection. Szczecin Tattoo Convention is also a place where local artists are promoted. The lifestyle zone was the place where you could see hand-made clothes, jewelry custom motorcycles and cars.

On Sunday our visitors had a chance to break last year’s record. They could get a contour of the piece of puzzle tattoo for the minimum price of 50 PLN. This tattoo is the symbol of autism. The event is called ‘Artists for Autism’ and was organized together with the ‘Przystań Autysty’

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE NUMBER OF VISITORS? WHAT IS THE NUMBER YOU WOULD LIKE TO REACH NEXT YEAR?

Probably we’ll never say we’re satisfied with the number of visitors. This would mean it’s time to stop organizing Szczecin Tattoo Convention and finish the whole thing. Every year we see more people coming to our event and it makes us really happy. We can also observe people coming back next year but together with their children. That’s why every year we prepare more attractions for the youngest visitors. In our dreams we see twice as much people as come right now. In reality we appreciate every new person and everyone that comes back to us for the next edition.

44 PAGE

The pole dance contest, Pasztecik contest, the air acrobatics show - these are only some of the attractions we could see this year. What is your opinion about visitors’ needs, do they really come to see these attractions? Have these contests and performances an influence on the bigger number of tickets sold?

We had even some more attractions. There were also stand-up performances, concerts, live DJ, popular games and flipper games, food truck zone any many more in our partners’ zones. The main reason people come are still artists, tattoos and everything connected with them. But we also try to entertain them and in away make them spend more time with us. We treat this convention as a tattoo art festival. This weekend is always planned to be full of attractions for whole families, no matter how old its members are. This is a holiday of all people who tattoo themselves and it’s always marked red in our calendar.

TELL US SOMETHING MORE ABOUT THE CONTEST FOR VISITORS WHO WANT TO SHOW THEIR MOST INTIMATE AND HIDDEN TATTOOS…

Every year together with the admin of the Facebook group called ‘Get your butt tattooed’ we organize contests that are funny and not so obvious. Last year we were looking for best butt tattoo and this year we decided to find the best erotic or intimate tattoo. It looks like there are many people who own this type of tattoos and want to show them and present at the convention. This contest was organized for those who always wanted to participate but couldn’t find the right category.

It was difficult to find tattoo contests connected with the part of Poland your convention takes place in. Do you plan to change it next year and have some new contests?

Many people think Szczecin is by the sea but it’s not true so ‘marine tattoo’ is not really the best choice for us. There are some tattoos people get that are connected with local character and these are mainly: the Cranes, the Three Eagles Monument, gryphon, local football team Pogoń Szczecin, local fish stew (paprykarz) or even characteristic traditional water pumps that you can see in our city. Probably we could think about new category for next year.

While thinking about possible categories we try to follow the newest tattoo trends. The names and types of categories are created later on.

What we know for sure is that we don’t want to change this year’s way of contest organisation. All of the models come to the stage at the same time and the judges holding ‘the totems’ see the tattoos when everybody is on. Those who get ‘the totem’ are in the final round and the winner is chosen out of them. This way our contests are dynamic and don’t seem so long.

It is also easier for the judges because they see all the tattoos at the same time and they can compare them. This year there were only two types of tattoos that didn’t have to be made during the convention. These were big colored tattoo and black and grey tattoo. This is the rule we want to keep during next editions.

CARLOS “LOZ” OLIVEROS

Loz came from boxing and tattooing family. At 6 he started boxing and at 16 Loz started tattooing his friends.

Loz learned about tattooing by watching his father build tattoo machines. “One day I saw him dismantling pens.. and was like ‘what the hell is he doing’ and then a few weeks later he was making an amp for machines.” Loz’s padre is an industrial electrician and the house was full of people to tattoo. He grew up tattoo magazines always available in the house. One of the first artists he remembers was Tom Renshaw & Paul Booth – and then was inspired by traditional Japanese body suits.

His father was also a boxer and competed in Central American games. He went to Cuba to compete and brought back the gold. Loz himself has won 3 state titles plus regionals and nationals (winning one in 18 seconds). In 2012 he earned a spot to compete in the Olympic trials.

58 PAGE

Loz started Tattooing professionally 2010 at Exception Ink in Miami and later with at Tatu Baby’s studio, Till End Tattoos also in Miami. He has won numerous nationwide competitions and specializes in black and gray. Fusion of black and gray and color realism with some horror.

Loz rides a custom-built Harley vicla low rider and says he is in the process of launching his own cigar line. He says “after a good accomplishment, ceremonial event, you want to relax and be among your peers. Cigars are like a good scotch or tequila and allow person to express themselves.”

Currently appearing on VH1’s Cartel Crew season 1. He is a fine artist of sorts, currently focusing on his career as a tattoo artist and raising his daughter while trying to avoid demons from his former life.

Richie the Barber is certainly not the barber your father took you to as a child. This selfconfessed nonconformist is a byproduct of what happens when an old soul falls in love with punk ethos. Known for his 1920s gentleman-like mustache and Chaplinesque picture poses, the man is a dedicated barber whose clientele is as broad as his horizons. On any given day you can find him at his shop, located in the back of the Barber shop at Bolt Barbers Melrose Ave., cutting up anyone from Travie McCoy to Benji Madden of Good Charlotte. Richie is not all about celebrities though. “My favorite clients to cut are the kids,” he says wistfully.

66 PAGE

You can bet the kids love to get their coiffure snipped by the ever-so-entertaining Richie, who’s known for giving out toys and candy and turning a normally mundane haircut into the most fun you’ve had in a long time. We’re pretty sure your barber at the local Supercuts isn’t giving you a fade while putting on a personal unicycle and juggling clinic right in front of you, but Richie is. While Richie is wellliked and makes it clear that he is certainly the ringleader to his own life’s circus, there is much more to him than meets the eye. “My grandfather was a barber and he taught me at a young age, so I’ve always cut hair for as long as I can remember. He’d tell me to always have imagination,” Richie says in reverence. It’s clear the young barber took that advice to heart, as his own style is ever-evolving, much like his train of thought. “I daydream a lot. I think I do it so much that I find it hard to concentrate sometimes.” One thing he does concentrate on is delivering the perfect cut and shave every time, as he has just as many regulars as he does walk-ups.
