Citizen Engagement and Community Development Community empowerment in local governance has become a key component of government policy across the globe. Essentially, public services must primarily focus on the needs of citizens. Citizens should be engaged and involved in the development of services - the services which must be efficient, effective and innovative in their design and implementation. Governments are also realising that they need to involve their citizens in the planning and delivery of local solutions to local problems.

RIPA International’s highly practical and networkfocused programmes and workshops will support your community empowerment initiatives, with front-line experts analysing community development initiatives and advising on what is required to build effective local services.

100% of delegates who attended our ‘Combating Cyber Crime’ course said that the topics covered by our Director of Studies and the material produced was ‘excellent’.

Community Policing Programme aim

This programme highlights recent community policing initiatives in the UK and reviews international best practice in this area. It recognises that citizenfocused policing applies within forces, at all levels, not just the public-facing departments.

Location: Duration: London Two Weeks

Gender Mainstreaming What you will learn:

Since the mid-1980s, police forces around the world have tried to develop an effective working relationship with local communities to combat crime. Many of these initiatives form part of a broader social and political agenda aimed both at enhancing access to justice, and at building and sustaining safer communities.

Fees: Dates: £3,750 03 Oct – 14 Oct

The purpose of community policing Enlisting community members as partners of the police Community perceptions of crime Improving the experience of those who have contact with the police Establishing neighbourhood policing Achieving effective community engagement, public involvement and understanding Ensuring local accountability of policing Setting measures and targets in supporting effective community engagement Planning and implementing change to practices and procedures in working with local communities

Benefits of attending - You will be able to: Plan and implement strategies that make the needs and concerns of citizens integral to the way policing is conceived, managed and delivered Consider the advantages and challenges of a citizen-oriented approach to policing Identify arguments for and barriers to the adoption of community-based approaches to policing in your country

Programme aim

What you will learn:

The goal of mainstreaming gender equality is not about adding a ‘woman’s component’ or even a ‘gender equality component’ into an existing activity. It means bringing the experience, knowledge and interests of women and men to bear on policy making, management processes and on the delivery of services. This programme provides a practical focus for developing and implementing tools and techniques to ensure the successful inclusion of gender mainstreaming strategy across a wide range of policy, programme and project initiatives.

Location: Duration: London Two Weeks

Make a direct impact on decision-making in mainstreaming policies, programmes and projects Understand, develop and undertake gender budgeting and gender audits, with concrete financial allocations to address gender and women’s issues Enable progress toward gender equality to be monitored
