While most of us are aware of the damaging effects of the sun during the Summer months, we don’t always realise that with the colder days of Winter, and the changing weather conditions, come even more negative affects. Here’s what you can do for clients who need some extra TLC f rom head to toe.

L AYER UP Cold weather is tough on our skin; as temperatures drop and humidity lowers, the air becomes dryer and has a harsh effect. Moisture is drawn out of the air, and out of the skin, and as Winter winds kick in, your clients are soon battling redness, dryness and dull skin – even clients who have always had robust, glowing skin can begin to experience sensitive skin issues. Add to this the incredibly drying heat of central heating and clients can experience extreme dryness that could even result in bleeding skin. So, how do you prevent this? The Winter months are all about layering, and that’s not just for t-shirts and sweaters. By layering skin and bodycare products there’s more chance of really locking moisture in. For massage clients that means applying a body oil on top of a skin cream; if you’re giving a foot scrub, make sure it’s followed by a nourishing foot mask. If your client’s coming in for a glam manicure, encourage them to walk away with a soothing cuticle oil. It’s a great time to think about offering multi-layered services as it means you can boost your profits and also promise longer-lasting effects.
