The Pride Center of the Capital Region is the oldest gay and lesbian community center in the country and has grown to be the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) multi-service agency in Upstate NY. Serving 10 Counties, the Pride Center is the only LGBTQ community center between Kingston and the Canadian Border. The Pride Center’s mission is to promote the well being of all gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer identified people and those affected by discrimination based on gender identity and expression. Our core programs include: Center Arts: Monthly visual art exhibits and community music series all around the Capital Region. Center Families: Supporting LGBTQ families through social events and community education. Center Support: Offering peer support groups, low-cost counseling and case management, substance abuse prevention and recovery groups. The Pride Center also provides comprehensive information and referrals for the LGBTQ community. Center Youth: Providing support, outreach and advocacy for LGBTQ youth ages 13-18. Programs include 4 regular peer support groups, a leadership team, summer camp, and the annual Alternative Prom. Pride Center staff also support over 30 high school gay-straight alliances and provide training for hundreds of staff and teachers on issues relating to LGBTQ youth. Community Outreach: As the producer of the annual Capital Pride celebration, the largest in Upstate NY, the Pride Center brings over 20,000 people together to celebrate each year. Through our monthly CommUNITY magazine, the Pride Center informs the larger Capital Region about LGBTQ news and events as well as supports other LGBTQ organizations. The LGBTQ Business Alliance hosts premier networking and the opportunity for businesses to demonstrate support. Training and Education: Our nationally-known trainers are experts in providing education and professional development trainings for entities seeking to improve their services for LGBTQ individuals and community. Trans Pride: Promoting the wellbeing of the transgender and gender non conforming community in a safe and empowering space through informal monthly social gatherings and facilitated discussions. Providing referrals, information and support as well as education to providers serving the trans community. Vintage Pride: Reducing the social isolation that LGBTQ seniors 55 and over face through social and support opportunities. Vintage Pride engages over 100 seniors in educational and social opportunities and work with local senior service organizations to educate them on creating a welcoming environment for all their clients.
