When we decided to run a suburb profile on Mount Pleasant and Applecross in this issue of CY Magazine, Steve Currie and Emma McCarthy from our Applecross office seemed the perfect agents to put it together. After all, Steve has lived in the area for twenty-four years, while Emma was born into Mount Pleasant and has been there ever since.

There really has never been a more exciting time to be in Mount Pleasant and Applecross. This vibrant area, positioned perfectly at the meeting point of the Swan and Canning rivers, is currently the site of the Canning Bridge Precinct a $235 million redevelopment vision. When complete, the Precinct project will include an expanded foreshore area, improved public transport links and plenty of trees, parks and green spaces, as well as an overpass for pedestrians and cyclists. There will also be ample commercial space for retail outlets, cafes and restaurants, and possibly a ferry terminal in the future. This “city within a city” is rapidly taking shape, with a number of new residential buildings due for
