Every February for the past 17 years, around 4000 people have gathered under the giant trees of Quarantine Park, overlooking the Swan river in Bicton, to enjoy a remarkable community concert event. The event began accidentally when Gerard Neesham met aboriginal singer Stephen Pigram in a bar in Broome playing to a handful of people and couldn’t understand why this guy wasn’t a household name. Today the event and the award winning Pigram Brothers pull a huge crowd every year, without even advertising. The seven piece band from Broome have been joined on stage over the years by some surprise big names like Paul Kelly, John Butler, Archie Roach, Shane Howard and Fremantle’s very own Lucky Oceans. The event is an occasion of practical reconciliation organized by the Clontarf Foundation which Gerard Neesham started in 2000. The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men. Since opening its first Academy for 25 boys in 2000 the Foundation has

grown to now cater for 8000 boys in a 120 schools in every mainland state in Australia with 400 staff supporting and mentoring these young men. The Clontarf Foundation is growing rapidly as they strive to reach more boys and their families and communities that are in need of the program that Clontarf offers. A program which has the boys engage

in school and which drastically improves the life outcomes of these young men and their families.
