THE POWER OF PRINT In this digital-oriented world, it’s easy to assume the only way to market a property is by listing it on the internet. The team at Caporn Young has always known this isn’t the case. We track where enquiry comes from and while online is an important part of any campaign, the benefit of a multi-pronged approach is unquestionable. This includes not only print and online advertising, but also the valuable work our sales consultants do in matchmaking through our networked database. Seeking to pinpoint the affect a combination of print and online advertising has on real estate performance, property analytics firm CoreLogic RP Data compared sales figures from the last two years. It uncovered some significant trends. In Perth, properties marketed both in print and online achieved an average of an 8.7percent higher sale price and were 4 percent more likely to sell within the campaign time frame, compared

with properties advertised on digital channels only. A different study by Millward Brown similarly showed three out of four people still turn to print when searching for a property. PROFILE LOVE IS IN THE SPRING AIR ‘TIS THE SEASON OF PROPOSALS Spring isn’t just the season for buying and selling real estate, it’s also the season of proposals and the busiest time of year for engagement rings at local Perth jeweller Linneys. The Subiaco based business has been tracking the trend for decades – creative director Justin Linney says there’s something about having good weather, holidays and time with family on the horizon, which causes an annual spike in engagements. Interestingly, around half of the brides and grooms-to-be coming through the doors of Linneys are now shopping for an engagement ring together. Most clients opt for a bespoke design, a process that involves sourcing the perfect diamond on the international market and then hand-crafting the ring on-site in Subiaco. For the client who does the planning in secret, the ring is kept safely in the vault until the moment of truth approaches. “When a male client first comes into the showroom he’s usually overwhelmed by all the sparkles looking back at him,” Mr Linney says, “but as we go through the process, they get really into the technical side of it. We show them how to inspect a stone under magnification and teach them about the way each diamond is graded. Diamonds are a natural product, so it’s not black and white, there’s an art to it. “Our team looks forward to the excitement that comes with being apart of such a special part of people’s lives. Bridal jewellery is treasured for a lifetime and we

are now seeing second and third generations of brides coming to us. Today’s brides are often seeking something very personalised, and it is wonderful to be a part of people’s lives in this way.” The cusp of summer also brings the launch of Linneys hotly-anticipated annual collection. Although its contents are a closely guarded secret until November, Mr Linney hints that this year’s collection is driven by fresh twists on classic designs, including daring combinations of black pearl and black diamonds, Men’s neoprene bangles and the label’s signature free-form shapes inspired by The Kimberly. With only limited numbers of each piece made, many sell out before Christmas. The collection marks the end of a remarkable year for the Linneys business. The year 2015 saw collaboration with acclaimed wedding couturier Steven Khalil, as well as Linneys’ first-ever bridal collection and its maiden appearance at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Sydney. It also brought the second generation of the family to the helm of the business, a move that allowed founder Alan Linney to return to his first passion of working at his jeweller’s bench. Next year is set to be another illustrious year for this business, as it marks Alan’s 50th anniversary as a goldsmith. He is currently working on a special collection of limited edition pieces, which will be released mid2016. Be sure to watch this space for all the details.
