With sweeping river views and a prime Attadale location, we knew the property was going to be hotly sought-after... and we were right! After a flood of enquiry from buyers, more than 40 people gathered at the auction on a glorious summer Saturday morning. The first bidder got the ball rolling at $2,500,000, and there were dozens of bids before the hammer was knocked down at $4,100,000. Many interested buyers first saw the property in this magazine - people from Dalkeith, Nedlands, Claremont, Applecross, Mt Pleasant, South Perth and Mosman Park. These buyers weren’t all necessarily looking to buy in Attadale, but fell in love with the home after reading about it on these glossy pages. It goes to show the power this magazine has

PROFILE A CELEBRATION OF WA SUMMER, SUNSET & SCULPTURE COTTESLOE’S MUST-SEE BEACH EXHIBIT MARCH 4 – 20 That special time of year is upon us once again – as you soak up the final weeks of the long Western Australia summer, it’s time to head to Cottesloe Beach for Sculptures by the Sea. This year’s exhibition pays special tribute to Bob Juniper, a worldrenowned West Australian painter, sculptor and art teacher who passed away a few years ago. The event’s founding director David Handley says he is delighted to include two works by the late artist, “as part of a fitting send off to such a wonderful career and man”. More than 70 sculptures by local and international artists will be on display this year, including several kinetic sculptures by Chinese installation and performance artist Li Wei. “Wei’s surreal photographs of his performance installations are something to behold and will be on display inside the surf lifesaving club,” Mr Handley says. “Some other works I am excited about are Zilvinas Kempinas’ work Kakashi. Based in New York, Kempina is a major upand-coming star in the international art scene - his outdoor sculpture changes constantly depending on the light and wind conditions. I’m also looking forward to Louise Sparre’s Skin Cube sculpture, which was a hit at the Sculpture by the Sea Aarhus exhibition in Denmark last year.”
Mr Handley says a West Australian scholarship is awarded every year, to help a local artist advance to the next stage of their career. The 2013 winner, Mikaela Castledine, will exhibit at once again at the event, after using her scholarship to travel to Burma and explore her maternal family history. To fully appreciate everything Sculptures by the Sea offers, collect an official catalogue from exhibition staff, as well as children’s guides for younger members of the family. Visitors are also free to take a seat on one of the bean bags and listen to talks by the artists throughout the event. For those who want to take home a piece of the exhibitions magic, many of the sculptures are available for purchase.

Mr Handley says between 20 and 40 percent of the works sell each year, with many now displayed in pride of place on private properties and public spaces around Australia and the world. This year, in a first for the exhibition, a $50,000 prize will also be awarded, with the winning piece purchased by Rio Tinto and gifted to Western Australia for a permanent public display. WHO SAID IT WAS A TENANTS´ MARKET? The word “fierce” comes to mind when I think about the competition around some recent properties we´ve leased. More often than not, our team have been able to create impressive competition around properties - hot micro-climates that result in applications coming in well above the asking price. Some might say that’s impossible in today´s “tenants´ market”, but let’s take a look at some of our recent results: A family home in White Gum Valley leased 15.9% above asking price while a double story masterpiece in Beaconsfield leased
5.5% above asking price. In Fremantle, we leased a contemporary apartment 13.8% above asking price and a North Fremantle home secured a tenant 4.4% above asking price. We also leased a brand new property Claremont 2.6% above asking price, then worked proactively with one of the qualified tenants who missed out - resulting in the lease of a nearby unit for 6.4% above asking price.
