Surigao Norte steps up measures vs. ASF By Alexander Lopez
BUTUAN CITY – The provincial government of Surigao del Norte has stepped up measures to prevent the entry of the deadly African swine fever (ASF) in the area. Provincial veterinarian, Dr. Life Shiela L. Cubillanes, told the Philippine News Agency ( PNA) on Tuesday that Governor Francisco T. Matugas’ Executive Order (EO) 20-006 “strictly prohibits the entry of live hogs and pork-related products from regions” affected by the highly-contagious ASF.
She also clarified that the inclusion of Region 12 in the order was due to the fact that products transported from the area usually pass through the Davao region.
“The order bans the entry of live hogs and pork products from Regions 11 (Davao region), 12 (Soccsksargen), and other areas in the country affected by ASF,” Cubillanes said.
“There must be certification indicating that the live hogs and pork products transported to the province are coming from regions not affected by ASF,” she added.
Cubillanes made it clear that live hogs and pork products from nonaffected areas, such as Cagayan de Matugas issued the order on Oro and Butuan, are still allowed in February 7 amid the spread of ASF in Surigao del Norte but must be subjected the Davao region and other parts of to certain regulations. the country.

Davao Norte to start sorghum farming By Che Palicte
DAVAO CITY Davao del Norte Cavendish banana farmers whose farms were destroyed by the dreaded Fusarium Wilt or Panama Disease will get free sorghum seeds this week from the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA). In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the seeds already arrived after a month-long voyage from Galveston, Texas and being kept in an area designated by the Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-11). The four-metric tons of hybrid sorghum seeds are part of the 11.2-metric ton donation of Scott Seed, Co., a Texasbased seed production company, to MinDA.
Governor Edwin Jubahib has earlier committed some areas in Talaingod town for sorghum farming, as it is a predominantly indigenous people’s (IP) community with large unutilized land and very high poverty incidence.
