Introduction The CRY Great Cake Bake Friday 26th November Raising Awareness Week 2021 Thank you so much for getting involved in the CRY Great Cake Bake 2021 to raise awareness and funds for CRY. This will be the 10th year that we have held this event and, following its previous success, we have had more wonderful support from chefs and sponsors this year. In 2021 supporters raised over £1,000 bringing the total raised to £213,397 since 2012!

Your involvement is crucial to helping us raise awareness of, and prevent, sudden cardiac death in young people, as well as supporting young people diagnosed with life-threatening cardiac conditions and those affected by young sudden cardiac death. We aim to use CRY Awareness Week 2021 as a platform to further increase awareness of CRY’s research and the support that we can offer to those affected. Boosting your Ca

We have come up with a few id your c

• Set up an online fundraising page for those that can’t make it but want to support your efforts.

• Hold a bake off competition between family, friends and colleagues.

Make it a fundraiser and ask for a £1 donation to CRY for taking part.

• Organise and hold a baking class. Is there a family recipe you’ve always wanted to make? Or why not use one of the recipes from this booklet! Ask for donations to take part, or ask family and friends to sponsor your efforts.

• Send out an email invite message to let people know how you’ll be taking part. Use our template here • Set up a virtual team-building CRY Great Cake Bake for your colleagues working from home. The usual weekly team catch-up can only be improved with a cake break! Maybe you’ve acquired new baking skills over lockdown, now is your chance to show them off.

• Run a cake raffle for your show-stopper!

• If you have children (or colleagues!) why not offer them the chance to ice their own cupcake for a donation and make it a competition for the most imaginative.

• Hold bake sales and catch-up mornings between the people in your home, work or school/university.

• Make and donate your bakes to a local business, shelter, or even your street. Cake drop-offs would surely make you a very popular neighbour!

• Don’t forget the collection box for any donations of loose change that people might give you.

• Got any leftovers? Why not find the local food bank or homeless shelter to save you from eating any cakes that haven’t sold at the end of the day.

• Hang some CRY posters in your window to help raise awareness. If there are local notice boards or community centers near you, take some there.

Date Crispies Ingredients 115 grams of margarine 115 grams of sugar 220 grams of dates 115 grams of Rice Crispies or Choco Pops

Melt the margarine and sugar in a deep pan, add the dates and heat. Stir until mushy.

Remove from the heat and add the rice crispies or choco pops until you cannot add any more (too difficult to stir).

Put the mixture into a tin about 8”x12” and press down.

Optional Extra Melt milk chocolate and cover the mixture in the tray.

When cold, cut up into squares to serve.

Cream Whirls & Chocolate Ended Biscuits Ingredients

255 grams of plain flour 212 grams of Margarine 85 grams of icing sugar Cream Whirls Mix together the margarine and sugar until creamy, then add the flour.

Mix well (should be quite soft).

Put into a piping bag and add a toothed pipe.

Pipe either into lengths (about 3 inches) or into round swirls.

Cook at 150C for 10 - 15 minutes Chocolate ended biscuits Melt milk chocolate and dip the biscuit ends into the melted chocolate (about ½ and inch)

Cupcakes Ingredients 115 grams of Margarine 115 grams of sugar 115 grams of flour (Self Raising) 2 eggs

Cream margarine and sugar together. Beat the eggs and add in the flour and mix together well.

You can add any fruit or cherries to the mixture.

Now mixed put the mixture into paper cases making about 12-15.

Cook at 180C for about 10 minutes.

Decorate as you like - icing sugar, melted chocolate, sprinkles, honey drizzle, glaze.

Chocolate Crispies Ingredients Makes about 18 cakes 2 Tablespoons of icing sugar 2 Tablespoons of margarine 2 Tablespoons of golden syrup 2 level Tablespoons of cocoa powder Rice Crispies (as much as the mixture will take)

Melt the margarine, icing sugar, golden syrup and cocoa powder together - do not let it boil.

Once well melted, add the rice crispies until firm.

Spoon the mixture into cup cake cases and leave to cool and set.

Lemon Drizzle Cake Ingredients

170 grams of butter 170 grams of caster sugar 2 eggs 4 tablespoons of milk 170 gram of self-raising flour 1 lemon for juice and zest 1 tbsp of icing sugar Bake at 160C

Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs and milk gradually.

Fold in the flour and lemon zest (Zest lemon before juicing it).

Put the mixture into the greased and lined 900 gram loaf tin.

Bake until golden brown.

Mix lemon juice and icing sugar together and pour over the cake as soon as it is removed from the oven.

Allow the glaze to set before removing the cake from the tin.

Slice to serve.

Caramel Crumble (Millionaire’s Shortbread) Ingredients

Part one 115 grams of margarine 60 grams of sugar 170 grams of self-rising flour Part two 115 grams of margarine 115 grams of sugar 2 tbsp of golden syrup Half of a 397 gram can of condensed milk

Put part one into a mixing bowl and mix together then press into a flat tin, cook at 150C until light golden (about 20 minutes).

Put part two ingredients (sugar, margarine and golden syrup) into saucepan when melted add condescended milk.

Bring to boil for about 7 minutes and keep stirring, when a dark golden brown pour over base when set.

Cover in melted chocolate.

• £35: The cost of the first counselling call with CRY after a young person dies.
