1,850,000 TIMES

Dear Friend, When I told you in last year’s Annual Report that 2020 was going to be an exciting year -- since it was Care Net’s 45th anniversary -- I had no idea how “exciting” it was going to be. What a year it has been. None of us could have anticipated the challenges that we would face. But through God’s grace, we have faced them together. Your prayers and your support have provided compassion, hope, and help to hundreds of thousands of women, men, and unborn children in the midst of a chaotic year. As you can imagine, the COVID pandemic has created all kinds of challenges. COVID and the lockdowns associated with it have created an environment of fear, loneliness, and isolation for many people. Unfortunately, abortion can thrive in that kind of environment. So in March, when businesses, churches, schools, and medical practices were closing down, the abortion industry fought to keep their doors open. We had to respond to ensure that women and men would continue to have access to the life-affirming alternatives that you make possible. We began providing specialized training to our network of more than 1,100 affiliated pregnancy centers. We trained them on how to serve clients in virtual settings. We helped them navigate the legal and ethical landscape surrounding when, how, and if they could keep their doors open to receive clients in their offices. And despite the lockdowns and fears raised by a global pandemic, you helped our affiliated pregnancy centers continue to see clients --- to love them, allay their fears, and help them choose life for their unborn children and abundant life for their families. You also made it possible for our Pregnancy Decision Line to stay open. As you can imagine, in an environment in which people were not leaving their homes as often, our national hotline became a life-line to many. Indeed, calls to our Pregnancy Decision Line increased 40% in the early months of the lockdowns and remain high today. And thanks to you, pregnancy decision coaches were standing by, ready to take calls from women and men who felt that abortion was their only option. In these calls, they received the guidance, information, and reassurance they needed to consider their alternatives – and many lives were saved! And as you know, Care Net – through its Pro Abundant Life mission – has worked for the past five years to equip the Church to provide compassion, hope, help, and long-term discipleship to women and men considering abortion, and making choices for life. But again, with many churches closing their doors, reaching them became a challenge. But again, you came through. Your prayers and support allowed us to provide an online version of our Making Life Disciples training for free to hundreds of churches. So even in the midst of the shutdowns, churches could prepare themselves for ministering to the women and men who will undoubtedly need their support in the coming months and years. 2020 has been challenging, but God has shown Himself strong! 2021 may be challenging for some different reasons, as the political landscape appears to be set to change. Hostility towards pregnancy centers and the pro-life movement will make Care Net’s work more challenging and more urgent. But despite changes in political power and cultural influence, we have Jesus’ power, and no one can take that away from us. I am excited about what God has in store for us in 2021, because I know that we have you – and God Almighty – by our side as we move this Pro Abundant Life mission forward together. May God bless you daily and you serve Him faithfully,

SHARING A MESSAGE OF HOPE

Care Net received the report below from one of our local affiliated pregnancy centers, and we think it’s a testament to how God is working through Care Net and our affiliates. “A client came to our center recently; she was well-dressed, well-presented, a married mother of 3, with a professional career, in a bi-racial marriage. She told our Nurse Manager she believed she was 6 weeks along with an unexpected pregnancy and was not sure she wanted to keep the baby. Her other children are in their teens to twenties and she had recently been diagnosed with a heart condition that would be a complication for this pregnancy. The client had been to an abortion clinic before coming to us. She requested the abortion pill protocol from that provider; but the doctor in that clinic refused to prescribe the abortion pill to her because with the heart condition it could be life-threatening. The doctor told her, “Other abortion providers wouldn’t think twice about giving you this regimen, even with your condition. So don’t go to them.” She went home where she and her husband worried over what to do, but didn’t tell anyone else about the pregnancy except their pastor who said, “You know where I stand on this but I understand your fears.” Then she came to our center. The pregnancy test was positive and our Nurse Manager scheduled her for an ultrasound early the next week. Our Nurse Manager says she prayed all weekend for that baby to be at least 10 weeks along for the ultrasound. Ten weeks is a much better image, stronger heartbeat, and too far along for the abortion pill. The day of the ultrasound, the woman returned to our center; and the image on the ultrasound screen showed a baby 10 weeks 0 days gestation. The woman began to tell the Nurse Manager she was leaning toward not seeking an abortion. Our Nurse Manager continued to talk with her about her options, decisions, and choices. The Nurse Manager, knowing that the client was not from their area, said, “Now, you are from [another state]; why did you come to us?” The woman said, “Well, a few years ago I attended one of your center’s [banquets], and the speaker’s story resonated with me. When I found myself in this situation, I remembered the speaker’s story and decided to come to you.” The speaker at the banquet this woman attended was in a bi-racial relationship, and faced an unexpected pregnancy and the potential derailing of his professional career. The speaker chose life for that child and is now the President and CEO of Care Net, Roland Warren. His wife is a medical doctor who graduated college carrying their second child in a carrier over her graduation gown. The woman saw her story in Roland’s, and was inspired to visit the center. She left her appointment carrying a whole stack of ultrasound images to show her husband. As far as we know they are keeping the baby and trusting God with the outcome of any medical condition.”

OBJECTIVES

CARE NET IS DEDICATED TO THE FOLLOWING

OBJECTIVES:

Because the only source of true and lasting transformation is the Gospel, we lead people into transformative relationships with Jesus Christ, breaking the cycle of repeat unintended pregnancies, and connecting pregnancy center clients to the local church for discipleship and long-term support. Because 86% of abortions in the United States are among unmarried women, we promote healthy marriage as a critical factor in preventing abortions and as the optimal environment to raise children in accordance with God’s design for the family. The best way to ensure children thrive in life is when they are raised by their own, married parents. Because the father of an unborn baby is the most influential factor in a mother’s decision to abort, we work to break the cycle of abortion by engaging the father. Positive father involvement prevents abortion, and post-birth, children with involved, responsible, and committed fathers fare far better in various ways. Because our culture-at-large no longer values the sanctity of human life and the sanctity of the family as God designed it, we seek to influence the culture by transforming hearts and minds so that regardless of what the laws are, abortion becomes unthinkable in our homes, churches, and communities.

OUR VISION

OUR MISSION

Care Net envisions a culture where women and men faced with pregnancy decisions are transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ and empowered to choose life for their unborn children and abundant life for their families.

Acknowledging that every human life begins at conception and is worthy of protection, Care Net offers compassion, hope, and help to anyone considering abortion by presenting them with realistic alternatives and Christ-centered support through our life-affirming network of pregnancy centers, churches, organizations, and individuals.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10

KEY STRATEGIES

PREGNANCY DECISION LINE Emergency Care

Pregnancy Decision LIne was created to meet the “emergency need” of women and men making pregnancy decisions by offering immediate pregnancy decision coaching by trained staff. As the nation’s first and only call center offering immediate assistance to those considering abortion, Pregnancy Decision Line is uniquely positioned to have a significant impact on the number of abortions in the U.S. More than eight out of ten callers to PDL are actively seeking or considering abortions, and 27% of callers were less inclined to have an abortion after their call with a pregnancy decision coach. Never has “emergency” care for those considering abortion been more needed than during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the shuttering of many healthcare facilities, including many pregnancy centers, Pregnancy Decision Line was inundated with calls from women and men facing unplanned pregnancies. Thankfully we were able to offer compassionate care with Christ-centered support to those reaching out for help.

KEY STRATEGIES

CHURCH OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT Long-Term Discipleship

Care Net believes that “life decisions require life support,” and that the Church is God’s chosen instrument to provide long-term support and discipleship to women, men, and families. This support empowers them to choose life for their unborn children and ABUNDANT life for their families through a transformational relationship with Jesus Christ. The Making Life Disciples ministry resource was developed to equip the Church to specifically minister to those making pregnancy decisions, and to offer those in their congregations and communities the ongoing and long-term discipleship they need to realize an abundant life through Christ.

More than 2,200 churches have been equipped with the Making Life Disciples program. An additional 5,400 individuals have volunteered to bring Making Life Disciples to their churches. RESPONSE TO COVID-19

• Made our Making Life Disciples Online Course FREE. Nearly 650 individuals have taken advantage of the free training to date. • Developed three webinars: The Four Pillars of Effective Pregnancy Center Ministry to Men; Implementing Making Life Disciples; and The Essential Role of Center Directors in Implementing Making Life Disciples. All three webinars were held during the summer months. “Making Life Disciples is much needed and such a blessing to not only churches but centers as well. For my eight years at the center, I have desired to have a way to connect young men and women with someone to share life with and disciple them. Making Life Disciples makes a way to do just that!” –Brooke Myrick, RN at Choices Pregnancy Center and Making Life Disciples team leader at First Baptist Church in Russellville, AR

INFLUENCING THE CULTURE

Overturning Roe v. Wade in Hearts

Returning America to a culture of life will require more than simply changing laws….we must help people overturn Roe v. Wade in their hearts, making abortion unthinkable in our families, churches and communities. Care Net is a voice of compassion and reason in the public square, advocating for the culture at large to consider the value of human life, the importance of marriage and strong families, the important role of fathers, the transformative power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the need for long-term discipleship within the Church for those making pregnancy decisions.
