Editorspage Bruised but Not Broken The VIEW Co-Host of the Sheryl Underwood revealed this powerful message recently. And if there was ever a message worth sharing it is this one. She tells her true story experience where she accidently heard some of her peers talking about her in a not so nice manner. And how she chooses to keep it a secret for many years. It is fact that people will be people and talk about each other. However what would you do if you had the opportunity to hear what people really thought about you? Would you get mad or get happy? What I mean by getting happy is taking that negative energy and turning it into something positive. I won’t tell you untruths that it’s easy but the truth of the matter is that the hard or long way of doing things are often times the best way. It’s your journey, your opportunity to learn and become a better you. In Sheryl’s experience she was able to manage self-control not to lash out or let her emotions get the best of her. So that in her words she could end up where she was suppose to be. And right now she is rather successful as a Co-Host on one of the most watched talk shows along side major celebs such as Sharon Osborne. Who would of expected a Black woman making her way in Urban Comedy to end up on daytime TV?.

As women we know the negative talk. They will say your fat, you don’t know how to dress, you always look a mess, they will even go deeper if you let them saying things like your man got you like a fool. Can’t you see he don’t want your pathetic ass. The stinger is they find it humorous with no regard for what you might be going through. Sadly there are men that will selfishly try to break women to protect their own egos. What I took from Sheryl’s story is that we must love each other more. Find the strength to be the bigger person. And pray for those who are determined to bring others down. The thing is, as people seek to find humor in what they don’t know or understand about you. Depression is real! We women are more likely than men to suffer from “emotional ailments” such as depression, anxiety attacks and eating disorders, men are much more likely to act out aggressively and abuse drugs and alcohol. With women suffering from such illnesses as postpartum depression it’s time to get beyond common stereotypes. So that we don’t have bruises that literary breaking us. “Things” bruise many of us when said to us or about us. However as Sheryl’s story pointed out bruises can and do have the ability heal bringing us to a much better place. Some of us might require a little more help than others and that is ok. All we have to do is trust that through GOD anything is possible.

MBFW S2015 came on with a rush of color and heat. Temps in NYC turned up to the high 80's, and brought out the posh, and the beautiful to strut their finest. The concrete runways of Lincoln Center Plaza were alive with style, and the photographers who gather each season to capture the latest trends. Meticulously styled ladies lingered in the "good" light, while others made fabulous exits from the tents.Â

However it was the men who almost stole the show on the streets this season. We are seeing the return of the dandy, as dapper and impeccably tailored menswear commanded the attention of the street style photographers throughout the week.

POSHSTYLE Unlike last season, the IMG lobby was once again adequately lit and some of the old media energy was back. E television was on the scene and had been in production the day they news came in that Joan Rivers had passed away. Designer Dennis Basso asked for a moment of silence to honor Rivers before the start of his runway show. Posh took in quire a few shows during the hectic week there were many standouts. Your favorite for the week are David Tlale, Desigual, Zang Toi, Carolina Herrera, and Betsey Johnson. Walking for Betsey Johnson was Cynthia Bailey of RHOA. Other celebrity sightings included Valerie Simpson, who joined Andre Leon Talley, Nona Hendryx, and Susanne Taylor in the

front row for B. Michael. Former miss USA Nana Meriwether was all smiles at the Custo Barcelona show. There were plenty of fun things to do in the IMG lobby and even some free refreshments to be had. It was a busy and giddy week of fashion and fun that Posh is more than happy to share with you.

David Tlale drew inspiration from the traditions of South Africa for his S2015 collection presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this season.ww Back once again in the Pavilion space at Lincoln Center is was a spectacular showing.
POSHSTYLE The show opened with the contingent of models, it was certainly one of the most diverse shows of the week. Among the models that walked for Mr. Tlale were; included Oluchi, Tyson Beckford, Devyn Abdullah, and Former Miss South Africa Tatum Keshwar.

The new David Tlale Spring 2015 collection featured African printed shorts and skirts. These bod prints were complemented with crisp white shirts. The collection moved into a variety of pink hued designs.

The second half of the collection brought separates in hues of pink, and orange. We also saw metallic influences in dynamic satin gowns and shorts. The crowd was mesmerized by the time David Tlale and Tyson Beckford took the final walk to close the show. David Tlale's mission of promoting and expanding the reach of his brand remains the same. He is dedicated to having a global appeal and cultivating the David Tlale woman.

Tips & Tricks To Getting a Perfect Brow Brows has always been a recycle beauty trend that women obsessed over since the 20's. When I was growing up the full heavier brow girl was actress Brooke Shields now its model Cara Delevingne. Many of our top vanity drawers throughout the years has been filled with items like Rogaine cream, stencils, brow gel, brow pencils, brow fillers, brow transplant and medication latisse to achieve the perfect face frame. Ladies have been seen wearing their brows extremely thin, lush and natural, or bold and stencil. Creating a gorgeous brow can be tricky so I put together some tips for you ladies to help select which brow shape work best for your face.
Step 2: Draw around the tail of the brows to accentuate it. Fill in any patches and use your angle brush to blend the product through the brows. Step 3: Take some concealer on a flat brush and clean up any imperfections. You can skip this step if you want a more natural brow. Step 4: Blend the concealer with your ring finger and add some highlight.
A heart-shaped face looks best with a soft arch, which balances a longer chin. When it comes to thickness, choose a fuller shape. SQUARE-SHAPED FACES A high, curved arch works well on a square shape, since it softens and elongates your face. LONG FACES The best way to flatter a long face is with a straighter brow and a gentle arch, which helps widen your face. Avoid high arches, which will make your face appear thinner. ROUND FACES Fuller brows with a sharp, angled arch gives structure to a round face. The farther from your nose the arch is, the wider your face will appear. OVAL-SHAPED FACES Those with an oval face shape can pull off almost any haircut or bang length, and the same goes for brows! A full, softly angled brow is always flattering, like on Alba, above. DIAMOND-SHAPED FACES

Have a diamond-face shape? Try a curved brow with an angled arch, which helps to lengthen the widest part of your face.

POSH GIRL Mishael Morgan was born in San Fernando, Trinidad and is a real Caribbean woman in the sense that she knows the beauty of island culture and its people intimately despite her family moving to Canada when she was 5 years old. Her acting talents were honed early on in her youth, even though she did not know then where it would all lead. Mishael caught the acting bug at the age of ten, when she was cast as Joseph for her elementary school's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. She told us that, “I never felt more alive than that first time on stage. I have never forgotten it.” She went on to study at York University and bartending to make ends meet, but not pursuing acting seriously until a chance meeting with her now agent, David Ritchie. Ritchie convinced her to audition one day. Impressing the producers, she landed a role in Trey Songz’s Wonder Woman music video. A short ten months later in 2009, she worked on a first series-regular role as Tracy Dupont-Roymont, in YTV's Family Biz. Mishael has continued to make her name known in the world of film and television with roles on popular TV shows like The Best Years, Republic of Doyle and of course the Caribbean favorite: The Young & the Restless, where her role as Hilary Curtis steals the scenes! This summer, she also starred in the comedy series called Backpackers. Feature films like Casino Jack and Total Recall also show her acting skills full force.

I have known all the cast names and to work with them now, is one of the best experiences of my life! The soap opera, The Young and the Restless has been wonderful; adding Caribbean people to the cast is also wonderful. Caribbean nationals making real headway in getting involved in major U.S. based entertainment outlets is encouraging. The world too, is more mobile now and getting from place to place is easier. Our culture is shifting also; production companies are more ethnically diverse.”

Her parents’ focus was on academia; to encourage their children to become professionals like being a doctor or lawyer. Then, when a near death car accident during a visit to Trinidad broke her neck, she realized that you have to do what you love.
“Because life is too short, I had a chance to rethink my life; this is when I met my agent. I began my own company, my agent invited me to work with him, and the rest is history.” Asked how she would inspire Caribbean people because as we need to be encouraged to do what we would do. She wisely said, “This business is a unique journey for most people. Families tend to push their kids into it. Some people like me - it just happens by f luke and a lot of hard work after that. It was not easy. The pitfalls are there – audition after audition. At the end of the day you have to keep the faith and believe in yourself. No one believes in you more than you do. More doors will open if you have that faith in yourself.” She told us that every day she is blown away by the fact that she is really, really working on the Young & Restless show, even after a long, hard 12-hour day.

On a personal note, she shared with us that she has grown to love working out because she loves to eat and is a foodie to the max! “When I worked on the series Backpackers, we traveled from place to place on a bus all over Europe, eating all sorts of interesting street food. I love to eat street food because it reminds me of the way we ate on the side of the road, or on the beaches of Trinidad, where you sit around with friends and family.” When asked about some of her favorite designers she listed a few such as Steve Madden and Jimmy Choo shoes, Kate Spade’s awesome clothes, and a designer of the gorgeous dress she wore to the Daytime Emmy award, Dolly McPhee, a Canadian designer who she follows. We asked about her fitness and beauty regiments: “I try to eat healthy as much as I can. I think that helps your skin. My favorite line is Philosophy, and I exfoliate my facial skin once a week and wash my face twice a day.” Mishael makes being beautiful look so easy, but truth be told, she is beautiful on the inside too. We look forward to continuing to see her on the Y&R not only to see her radiance, but also to see how that love triangle unfolds!

By E. J. Webber A truly remarkable couple, Carlene Davis and Tommy Cowan are a rare combination of faith and talent. Carlene told me that music came about because music found her, “In the crib there was a lot of cooing and carrying on. Every opportunity I got since I was knee high I was always singing. We grew up in a rural area. My parents would sit me up on the countertop when I was a little older, and I would sing. In high school and college there was always singing and music. My dad played five instruments and my four siblings and their children are involved in music.” Clarendon Parish, Jamaica is where she grew up. She first started out in secular music and continued her musical experiences in England where her parents had relocated. When she was older she came to Canada where she says, “I went gigging at night and working during the day.” She soon gave up day jobs
and decided to focus on music full time. She started with small labels at first. In 1978-79 she did her first singles in Toronto. In 1980, her big break came when she went to Jamaica and did Reggae Sunsplash – her first major engagement. She recalls that later, “Michael Manning the PM of Jamaica game to visit in Toronto and told me to come back to Jamaica; this was a turning point that turned into bigger audiences for me.” Carlene did very well at Sunsplash where she was the first Reggae solo female performer. From there her career surged and whatever she did impressed those in musical decision making so much that the list of personages she has worked with since then is long indeed. From the likes of Sting, The Police, Peter Tosh, Aretha Franklin, Rick James, New Edition and James Brown, Toots & The Maytals, Grateful Dead, Gladys Knight, Melba Moore, and many others.
This island needs Jesus to make it right. You have to walk in obedience and get it. That is also part of it. Then you can use your skills to write the songs that are given to you.”
She mentioned that she became involved in preaching and teaching but never did pastor a congregation. That she leaves to her husband, former Reggae icon and Rastafarian, Tommy Cowan. These two delightful people truly adore each other and it is easy to see why. When I asked him how they met, he immediately said that, “When I saw her she was the star vocalist…and I said Wow! We began to start dating that very night. When she walks, she walks like she’s walking to music, the same as that first night I saw her.” They have been walking to music together for 33 years already.
One of the most charming moments I experienced with them both was when Tommy performed the lyrics from a tune called I Wanna Hit Song. Very cute!
Music history runs deep for both of them. She said that Tommy was doing his thing already in the music world. Having worked in the Reggae arena with Bob Marley and others. But it is the commitment they have made to Christianity and to their faith that keeps them together and also keeps them going in the gospel genre. What also helps make their marriage work is respect, and that special magic that they have for each other. Tommy says, “I would not want to change her.” Carlene chimed in: “Commitment is the other word. We made that commitment of working together.”

But in life there are moments that bring turning points and for Carlene it was breast cancer. Having burned the candle at both ends for too long, it was time to cease and recommit her life as a Christian. She recalls that, “I asked God to forgive me and turn my life around. It has been a wonderful experience and God has given me a platform that I never thought would happen to me. I washed my hand of the secular world and wanted what God wanted for me.”
When I wrote Winnie Mandela, the words came to me and it hit me. Carlene and I were so excited about it. When Nelson Mandela came out of prison, I wrote a lyric; we wanted him to know that God put the words into us through song.”
I inquired about a typical day for the couple. These guys are so busy with studio time, projects in between next albums, charity work, feeding programs, inner city ministering, and their Fun in the Son Christian music festival program events that take a whole year to plan. Then there is the Vision for Jamaica project that they have done for ten years now. The Antigua prime minister called and wants them to be there too. So they have to get rehearsals going in Antigua. In November 2013 they did a school tour to encourage and minister. They went to the students. They were amazed to see the kids committing their lives to the Lord. So often, role models are negative for them.
I was lucky that we in Tortola got the first live version of Carlene’s next album. When I asked her what inspired her to write the music she writes today she responded, “ It is what I hear and see and as a Christian it is out of my relationship with the Lord.”
These two are amazing and they have survived to be very thankful for what they have: their family and their children. They see themselves in them. Having survived the music industry and having been able to educate and raise their children is what they are so proud of.
Bubbling over, Tommy is the wordsmith with lyrics: “The word of God comes to you in the time of worship sometimes. Tommy said that there are also some things that you cannot explain…Dripping Blood for example, is a song I wrote during communion when I felt that I was under the cross and felt the drops of Christ’s blood. So I wrote about it. These are inspired words by God; it is not about sea and sand and f loors, it is about Jesus.
Carlene’s new album will be out by March. “We have 30 songs sitting out there and we want it to be right, and to say what we believe God is saying to us, so we can reach the lost.” Now that is saying something wonderful and we are excited for Carlene Davis’ music to reach our ears

Their sense of humor and realness with each other shows. Time and again it was mentioned that one must be honest, and that in life you need to make the best of it. Life is short. Make the best of it because we really know it only one time. Tommy especially strongly focused on not wasting precious time. “Caribe people in my view, are more challenged than most culture to keep a relationship. The idea is not to curse the darkness when you can light a candle! Don’t feed on the negative things. You have a choice. If you dwell on the dark stuff you will get the dark stuff! In life if you are not living your purpose or passion, relationships won’t work since you will always be grumpy. If you love what you do in life and you have a relationship and sharing with someone, it makes you a better person.”
Carlene and Tommy Cowan say that they pray that youngsters that they have interacted with won’t go to negative events. They hope that kids recognize that some of the entertainers they listen to are just that…entertainers only. It is what they may do, but not how they live. Tommy feels that in life as long as there are choices, it is good for us to offer up our kind of music, our choice. Don’t give kids just one choice. Fun in the Son is one of the choices. Give the alternatives. Show them the better side of life. We preach about vision for your life. Where is your life going to go? Have the vision in front of you. If you don’t know where you’re going you won’t have a destination. What is the purpose for your life? God created your to have a purpose. You are unique. God knew your purpose in your mother’s womb. We are responsible for getting the message out. We introduce them to the word of God. Jesus Christ’s gospel. A lot of kids don’t know the word of God since a lot of their parents don’t go to church. We tell kids that God wants you to have the good things in life, but you have to line up and be with Him. Righteousness comes first. It is a simple choice!

watch her body deteriorate while she tried to maintain sanity amidst all of the toxins collecting in her body. In order to maintain some semblance of normalcy, she began to create again. In 2000, Tamara took a trip home to Jamaica in hopes of reuniting with family and finding a long-lost brother. She had no idea that the trip would save her life. Her brother offered his kidney to her upon seeing the condition that she was in. This amazing offer was consummated in 2001 with Tamara undergoing a successful kidney transplant. That year she participated in her first art exhibition, making good on the promise that she had made to herself long ago to become a professional fine artist.

Her work has been featured in newspapers and magazines, including, but not limited to, the New York Times International, the Jamaican Gleaner, and Upscale Magazine, and has been collected worldwide. Many of her pieces are in the permanent collection of prestigious universities, such as the Margaret Cunninggim Center, Women and Gender Studies Department and History Department of Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. She is also in the permanent collection of Alverno College in Wisconsin, The Mother Kathryn Daniels Community Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, and many collections of note worldwide. She's exhibited in many group and solo exhibitions, and was a recipient of an individual grant from the Puffin Foundation for her project, "Never Forgotten", which focused on combating poverty worldwide.

I got the opportunity to ask Tamara a few questions about her style, gifts and influence in the world. This is what she had to say!
Tamara Natalie Madden was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica and raised in Manchester, Jamaica. It was during her childhood in Manchester that Madden was exposed to her first artistic inf luences. She continued to pursue art during her high school years, studying advanced literature, photography and creative writing. In 1992, when her art teacher passed from cancer, her sadness, along with teenage concerns, diverted her attention from art. Tamara created art sporadically for the next few years, with her passion eventually dissipating as life issues took precedence over her creativity. In 1997, Tamara was diagnosed with a rare genetic kidney disease called IGA Nephropathy. Over the next few years she would
I would describe my style as eclectic. I wear my hair natural, and it’s been that way for nearly 17 years. I wore big Afro puffs and Afros, double-strand twists, and funky updos until I locked my hair in 2004." "I am inf luenced by a myriad of things – people, nature, and God. I hope to inf luence others to dream bigger than they ever thought possible." "I’m inspired by the overlooked, and the ‘regular folk,’ who continue to try to pull themselves up despite their circumstances. The givers, lovers, and caretakers in our world inspire me as well, because they keep us from falling apart. I’m inspired by hard work, no excuses, raw passion, and sacrifice in order to achieve something greater, because for me it’s all about the greater good. "
d POSHFEATURES nearly 17 years kept me well in many ways, but life sometimes takes you through twists and turns despite your will to control it. Complete wellness is more than just diet and exercise, and for me learning how to calm my spirit during challenging times has been helpful in preventing drastic changes in my body. I also promote organ donation wholeheartedly, because I would not be here if I did not receive the gift of life from my brother. Many African-Americans and Afro-Caribbean folk are timid about the idea of donation, but many of our family members are in need. I would suggest that people learn more about the process, and hopefully open themselves up to the possibility of giving someone a second chance at life. When I think back, I realize that being an artist was always the plan, I just never realized it. Everyone knew that I was creative, but I couldn’t have imagined that I would be a professional artist. My first instructor was my Rastafarian Uncle in Jamaica. He was an artist, and craftsman, and I learned by watching him. When I made the decision to pursue art as my career after my transplant, I started seeing all of the mentors fall in line. Mentors like Ammar Nsoroma, Della Wells, and Evelyn Terry of Milwaukee, WI helped guide me. Soon after, I met Charly Palmer, Kevin “Wak” Williams, and a myriad of other artists who helped me on my creative journey. Their lessons helped me to find my own creative voice, and for that I am forever grateful. Sometimes we think we do it alone, but we forget all of the helping hands along the way.
When asked what is the key to success, she stated, " Just do it. Don’t live your life for anyone else. If your concern is about what others think, then you are not ready. There will always be someone with an opinion different from your own, and you have to figure out if you value your own worth more than the opinions of others. Be bold, you only have one life!" "Commitment to your chosen craft(s) is of the utmost importance. I also really believe that patience is a key factor. Often times, we expect overnight success, and while that can happen to some people, most of us have to work our way up. If you believe in what you do, then you have to trust it, work hard at it, and be patient. I’m a visual artist, but I’m also a face of survival. I advocate complete wellness – emotional, spiritual, and physical. I am kidney transplant recipient and mini-stroke survivor. Though my kidney failure was genetic, the mini-stroke came because of stress, and it transformed my life. I have always been an advocate of health, proper diet and exercise. Being a vegetarian for
Just from my experience alone, I’ve learned that taking the leap into what you love is not an easy decision. Many of us have to choose between stability for our families, or doing what we love. I certainly can’t make that decision for anyone, but I can say that there is nothing better than waking up daily, and loving my work. If you are trying to figure it out, just remember to trust, and have some faith. The journey is not an easy one, but the rewards are greater than you can even fathom. ANDRE HARRIS Amid the bright lights, excitement, and prepping for a men’s fashion show, Caribbean POSH sat down with Andre Harris, men’s fashion designer par excellence, just before the evening’s artistry began on the runway. Andre understands the excitement, but also the hard work that goes into putting on a show like this since he was a former fashion model himself. His keen fashion sense and labor is what brought him here today to show off the Andre Harris line of fabulous men’s clothing. The primarily top of the line all male collection of men’s wear was sprinkled with just one exception - one swimsuit designed for women. Andre shared that he usually does one item for women to add some spice to the evening and sure enough, some smiles could be seen this night! “Since I began my design career, I have thrown in one design item for a woman in the show. This is probably due to me growing up with five aunts, so I understand how women should look. We are flooded with women’s wear in the Caribbean you know, and I just wanted to show that guys can look great too!”

Harris explained his approach is generally all about cruise casual wear, but making this niche a little more contemporary. “Resort wear,” he told me, “Can also translate to a ‘Club Night’ appropriate outfit. The aesthetic for me is men’s cruise casual, but I don’t want to limit myself to just that. Diversity translates to different things.” This showing of his pieces is his second in the Caribbean, with the debut of the line initially shown in the Dominican Republic. Originally from Guyana, Andre has been in The Barbados for 15 years now, but recently relocated to New York to be near the fashion industry center. While he does do quite a bit of work stateside, his favorite place to be is in the islands. When asked how he began his career and what encouragement he can give to others, he said that he began as a model, but because he was not inclined to the runway and a little on the shy side, he joined his uncle who had a Taylor shop. He learned the art of sewing, working with fabric quality, and how to put the two together in a creative way. It was not easy work and a sense of patience had to be developed early on as he grew very much into his craft.

Then in 2008 he began a men’s line. With friends and mentors like his uncle, Roger Gary, Terry Donovan, and others whom he was blessed to know, and who taught him the basics of the runway and design business - he has genuinely come a long way. “I did every show in the Caribbean except for Caribbean Fashion Week. In terms of a designer’s budget, it is expensive to pay a hefty fee for registration, hotel accommodations, and all the other expenses. Terry Donovan has made the process easier now, so I expect to do more runway shows in the future.”
In closing the interview with this talented young designer, Andre told us that he has dressed some interesting clients in Barbados and Jamaica, “But at the end of the day it is not about who I know, but about who knows me.” Well said, and we hope he continues his success in becoming known everywhere.

Jo Mersa is the grandson of Bob Marley, the son of Stephen Marley, the nephew of Jr. Gong, and if that’s not having credentials in the music world, nothing can be – at least in the reggae, dancehall, pop, and EDM genre. Mersa is currently promoting Comfortable, his EP that was released in June of this year. The EP contains six tracks, five that were produced by the young 23-year old Mersa.
The Marley-owned Ghetto Youths International music company released the project. “I produced all except one song on the album called, Bogus which was produced by my uncle Jr. Gong,” Jo explained to me from his current base in Miami. Asked about his
name and how he came by it, we learn that his father

Being a Marley has a lot to do with what he sings about often since people tend to treat him differently because of that fact. Probing a little bit deeper, he explained that, “Being a Marley is both a blessing and a curse sometimes, but my journey is all about living my life regardless of my name. Listen to the words of Bogus the first title of the Comfortable album – it explains all about my name and how I want to be judged by my music rather than my name.”
He knew from an early age that music would be in his blood. He began playing when he was 11, often joining his father on stage. He and his cousins began to make beats with MPCs, a popular electronic musical instrument series and when he was around 12, his Uncle Ziggy bought them an Apple laptop and they used the Garage Band software and made their beats on it. He adds, “We recorded from the microphone, put our headphones on and that became our studio for a good three years. That is when my songwriting started to get more focused. Now the synergy is there with us; with my father and with Lamar Brown, the keyboardist I work with – it is really a special synergy we have.”
Mersa has a vast sense of who he is and where he comes from for being so young. It was fascinating to hear him respond to the question of what advice he had received from his uncles and father. He didn’t hesitate to tell me that they all have warned him to watch out and be careful – to hold his own. Pretty good advice that he followed up with a sly statement: “Put out some cheese and you’ll find the rat!” Dealing with the people that influence the music world is not easy sometimes. For example, he told me that he did not want to spend so much time away from home. Being a third generation Marley is not exactly how he wanted to be known. “I am much more excited when people don’t immediately know who I am but recognize me for my music. I have learned that I can’t fight it though. I am happy either way. I am who I am. My name is not what defines me; there is a lot more to me than that.”
As our conversation came to a close, I explained that Damian Marley, Jo’s uncle came to Tortola, and his grandfather, Bob came in 1976 when I was a baby. I have a twin sister, and we had our picture taken with Mob Marley holding us as babies. We showed Damian that picture, so he also took a picture of us - and our children! I reminded Jo that he has to continue the tradition and be the 3rd Marley to come to BVI!

Jo Mersa sings a lot about females, his rapidly growing fan base, and they have a lot to do with the music that exudes out of him. His own sisters influenced his music a lot. The song, Bogus, has a lot to do with the female species also, as do many of his songs. He tries to tell women to be natural; to not focus so much on vanity, sex, and materialism, but on value and integrity, “When we give our hearts to each other 100 percent, it has to be based on realness and not superficiality. The first annual VI Model of the Year Competition was held during the weekend of April 4-6, 2014 on the island of St. Croix US Virgin Islands. Produced by Jason Gardener of JG Management USVI and Co-Produced by Sandi Bass of Sandi Bass International. 19 models ranging from child, junior and female ages 7-19 competed in One-on-One interview, Model intro, Jeans, Swimwear, TV Beauty Commercial, Fashion Print, Runway and High Fashion. On Friday April 4th was the Exclusive Meet & Greet RED party, where the contestants introduced themselves and did a runway presentation. Saturday April 5th was the Industry Seminar on the Business of Modeling followed by the One-on-One interviews, Sunday April 6th was the main competition. The event played host to Top industry agents representing Sandi Bass International, MUSE Models NYC, Funny Faces Today Models NYC, and BMG Models NYC, Miami, Chicago, LA and Orlando. Some of the amazing prizes included a roundtrip ticket to NYC, modeling and management contracts, photo shoots with Top NYC photographers Nathan Heyward, Dorothy Shi, Ana Monique and Benton Sampson, Runway workshop with Alva Page, Zen Magazine Africa feature, Walk in Summer Sizzle BVI Tortola British Virgin Islands, and The United Colors of Fashion Charity Gala in NYC. HENSON Doing a very quick interview with the famous American born actress, Taraji Henson is exciting to say the least. We were at the Summer Sizzle BVI - All White Party that was exciting enough with all that was going on. Taraji was very gracious in spite of the need for her to be hustled off to enjoy some down time with her best girlfriends who came with her to the BVI. Her peeps were running a tight shift, can’t blame though as there was plenty of party to be had. She would be the special guest the very next night at the annual Summer Sizzle BVI. Now as just about everyone favorite black actress we know she knows a thing or two about performing. Having been in a plethora of films, such as Think Like a Man, the cute romantic comedy that some of us know her from, she took a few moments to talk to us about her current activities.

Last year she finished co-starring for two and a half years on the very popular show Person of Interest. Shortly after that, Henson was hired by FOX to star in the new TV series called Empire, a musical drama set in the hip hop recording industry. She plays the role of Cookie Lyon opposite co-lead Terrence Howard, with the series debut date to be January 2015. So be on the lookout for this gorgeous creature that has never before been to our British Virgin Islands. She was taken with how sweet and hospitable we are and said she was looking forward to returning often. Taraji expressed to Caribbean POSH that she is essentially a homebody really, but when it is time to turn it up she does it with the best of them. In high school she was in plenty of fashion and hair shows but when pressed to tell something surprising about herself she said she is pretty much who she is. She prefers acting and now also has “producer” on her title since she is also doing a movie for Lifetime TV. Her great joys in life are her best friends. “My best friends since 7th grade, Tracy,
is here in BVI with me. Everyone always asks me how I stay grounded in Hollywood. It is because of my friends who know the real me – they are my sisters.” Asked to share some of her beauty secrets she said that, “I get a lot of rest and drink a lot of water and I am not a hard dieter, but if my body needs 100 percent, I accommodate it. One thing I do for sure - no matter what - is that I wrap my hair every night and wash my make-up off before I go to bed.” Her favorite line of cosmetics is Perfect Face and she says it works very well for her. Although she has no particular favorite designer, she is all about fit. “If it looks good on me, then I will wear it,” she said with a twinkle in her eye. As to favorite music artists, she loves reggae, jazz, hip-hop and rock n’ roll. She told us that she has over ten thousands songs in her iPod. This graduate of Howard University in Washington D.C. is surely on her way to more stardom with her new show on FOX primetime. The Empire show, she explained, “Is a marriage of Sopranos meets Dynasty meets Glee in the R&B and hip-hop world, since my character owns a record label. We will also talk about subject matters people don’t want to talk about a lot.” The sky is the limit for Taraji Henson who truly knows her acting craft and has worked hard to become the actor that she is. We wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her in the BVI very soon. Until then we can catch Taraji starring alongside Idris Elba in No Good Deed where she plays a devoted wife and mother of two, living an ideal suburban life in Atlanta when Colin (Idris Elba), a charming but dangerous escaped convict, shows up at her door claiming car trouble. Critics say she is a force to be reckoned with in this movie and from the previews it sure looks that way.

Most people are not reading your tweets. Sure, you may have thousands of followers, but the truth is that unless you are a pop or movie star, most people are probably not even reading your tweets. You might as well save your posts for Facebook, as you’ll have better luck there when it comes to others reading about your love life. Your partner might not appreciate it. This is especially true when you tweet about your arguments or how annoying your partner is at times. If you absolutely must tweet about your relationship, be sure that it is at least positive. Your love life is not an open book. You might think your love life is an open book, but it shouldn’t be. Keep some of your love life private, as that keeps some of the mystery of it alive and well. People don’t care. It might be hard to hear this, but many people do not care about your love life and don’t want to read it on Twitter. Many people want to connect on Twitter for business and pleasure, but not read about how hot your girlfriend is or how much of a nag she is after a hard day of work.

Things You Do that Make You a Nagging Girlfriend and How to Avoid Them. Has anyone ever told you that you are a nag? Do you tend to harp on your boyfriend or husband about all sorts of things? Do you incessantly say things like, “Take out the trash, clean the garage, pick up your mess, tuck in your shirt, and comb your hair?” If so, it is very important that you come to grips with the fact that you are a nag and learn how you can stop nagging because bet and believe it drives your partner crazy. To nag someone means that you continually make requests and verbal reminders about many things. You repeat yourself over and over. You say it till your blue in the face, even when he refuses to do what you say. Do you think that nagging will help matters? Experts assert that nagging rarely does any good. In fact, it usually puts a wedge in between the partners and causes anger and resentment. HERE ARE 4 THINGS THAT YOU MAY DO THAT WILL MAKE YOU COME ACROSS AS A NAG: You harp on his appearance. Maybe his hair is a bit messed up all the time, but if you’ve told him a hundred times to comb his hair and he hasn’t bothered to follow through, you are nagging him. Sounds like he doesn’t care one bit if his hair is a little messy and your nagging will not likely get him to change his mind. Your best bet to stop nagging in this way is to accept him the way he is- messy hair and all. Let him be himself and love him unconditionally.

You repeatedly give him commands. Ok, this is a big one. Men do not like to be given commands in the first place, so if you are acting as Commander in Chief all the time, he is probably either detaching, slowly going insane, secretly plotting his escape, or all of the above. Do you constantly say things like: • Throw that away.
• Feed the cat.
• Clean the garage.
• Comb your hair.
• Wash the dishes.
• Brush your teeth.
• Clean up your mess.
• Go take a shower.
• Put the dog out.
• Stop looking at your phone.
If you are giving commands all the time, that is considered nagging. Should you want your husband to do something, discuss it with him in a pleasant manner. Do not command him to do something. Ask him nicely. Let him know that it would mean a lot to you if he did what you want him to do. For example, sitting down with your partner and saying, “Hun, the garage is a total disaster. Do you think sometime within the next couple of weeks you can get in there and make a dent in it?” goes a lot further than saying, “Go clean the garage. It’s a total mess!” The command will cause him to buck up and feel like he’s trying to be controlled. You whine a lot. If you tend to whine a lot, your partner is thinking you are a nag. Do you whine about what your partner does NOT give you? Are you feeling like he doesn’t spend enough time with you? Do you whine about it over and over? Do you whine about not getting f lowers or small tokens of appreciation? Bet and believe whining or trying to make him feel guilty about such will not serve you well. If you want more quality time or an occasional small token of appreciation, sit down and have a mature and meaningful talk with your partner. Let him know your desires and your needs and discuss how he could possibly fulfill some of them. Keep in mind he may not be able to fulfill all of your needs, but if he knows what is important to you, he is more apt to do a better job. You blame. You blame him, your neighbor, your parents, coworkers, and many others about many things. You have a hard time taking responsibility for your emotions and life in general. You are always telling your boyfriend it is your dad’s fault you’re so hot-tempered, your exes fault you are the jealous type, and his fault you are miserable. If you are pointing fingers a lot, you are nagging your boyfriend in a most annoying way. If so, it’s time to stop blaming and picking up the reigns of responsibility for your emotions and life. Being partners with a nag is no fun. Sure, it’s pretty normal to repeat yourself sometimes when your boyfriend doesn’t listen or do what you asked him to do, but nagging goes beyond the occasional repeat. Really take some time to look at these 4 things and determine if you have been the nagging girlfriend or not. If so, it’s time to make some changes.
