Open house on fluoride Thursday

As Halloween draws closer its time to pick your pumpkin: Nine month old Xander Harrison sits with his pumpkin at the Pumpkin Patch out at Thyme for Tea in 150 Mile House over the weekend.
Residents are invited to an open house tomorrow evening to get more information on whether they want fluoride added to the city's drinking water. The information session, hosted by the City's Water Committee, will take place Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and offer opinions both for and against the use of fluoride in drinking water, including the views of Dr. James Beck, author of The Case Against Fluoride who is being brought in by the City. The question of whether fluoride should be added to
our drinking water will be asked in a referendum on election day, Nov. 19. The issue has been a hot one in recent weeks, with mayoral candidates pointing out that the city in fact has not been adding fluoride into the drinking water for the past several years due to mechanical difficulties. It has been suggested the city staff has been misleading in the information put out on the issue. City staff cited an increased cost as one of the main reasons for wanting to stop injecting fluoride.
Halloween fun this weekend in the Cariboo Courtney Taylor Cariboo Advisor Whether you have a car full of kids or just yourself and a date, there is a Halloween party this weekend to suit your needs. For the kids this weekend there are few different choices, one being at the Boys and Girls Club and the other being hosted at Scout Island. The Halloween fun starts Friday, Oct. 28 at the Boys and
Girls Club with a haunted house from 6 to 10 pm, and for the younger children there will be a slightly less scary version on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 10 p.m. The Boys and Girls club would appreciate food donations for admission. Another option for the children is to join Mary Forbes and her Young Naturalists Club on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 4 p.m.
to 6 p.m. for an environmentally friendly Halloween Party. That party will include prizes for the best costume, pumpkin carving and a costume parade around the island. The Wildwood Fire Hall also puts on a spooktacular event over the Halloween weekend with their annual neighbourhood Halloween party and haunted house.
For a spooky night out for the adults the SPCA is putting on a Howl’s Eve Bash on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Long House and tickets are $15 each or $25 per couple. Don’t forget on Monday, Halloween night, the Williams Lake Volunteer Fire Department will light up the city with their annual Halloween Bonfire and Fireworks display starting at 7:45
p.m. Sponsored by Capital Power Corporation, TOLKO, Recreation Services and the Fire Department and Community Policing, the event will get underway with the bonfire at 7:15 p.m. followed by the fireworks at 7:45 p.m. The Lions Club will also be on hand to provide a concession of hotdogs and hot chocolate.
