Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor Mourners gathered at an impromptu memorial site this week at the bottom of Carson Drive to grief the loss of a 20-year-old nursing student who was struck down by a suspected drunk driver in the early morning hours Sunday. Rayel MacDonald,

described by her teachers as a bright and happy student, died at the accident scene just after 2 a.m. while her friend, a 19-yearold fellow nursing student whose named has not yet been released by police, was also critically injured and transferred to hospital in Vancouver where she remains.

The girls were walking with a large group of friends on the north side of Carson Drive when they saw another group of friends on the south side. According to the RCMP, as many as 30 people from the two groups witnessed an older model small pick-up truck strike the pedestrians and flee the scene.
