By Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor The Christmas Season is kicking into high gear this weekend with the annual downtown Winter Light Up, Santa Claus Parade and many shopping sales and Christmas markets taking place in and around the lakecity. In the shopping department, the first event of the weekend is Friday night’s Moonlight Magic. This event mimics the U.S.’s Black Friday, which is the signature kick off day for Christmas retail sales coinciding with the American Thanksgiving. Moonlight Magic will see participating retailers in Boitanio Mall, the downtown and Canadian Tire stay open until 11 p.m. with many deals to rival our neighbours to the south. Saturday will be another great day for getting into the Christmas spirit, with everything from a visit from Santa to the annual Medieval Market and Ten Thousand Villages Craft Sale. The Santa Claus Parade will start at the SaveOn Parking Lot at 11:35 a.m. and arrive at the Spirit Square at noon Saturday, where Santa and his friends will be treated to many activities from live music and games to wagon rides, opportunities to have your picture taken with Santa to hamburgers and hot chocolate. And when Santa leaves the city at 5 p.m. he’ll light it up for the season as he goes. Other popular events taking place throughout the weekend include the Medieval Market at Columneetza Senior Secondary, which will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the Ten Thousand Villages Craft Sale at Cariboo Bethel Church Thursday through to Saturday, the Cataline Christmas Craft Sale Saturday and Sunday and the Made in the Cariboo Craft Sale at Tourism Discovery Centre Saturday from 10 - 3 p.m. So find some time this week to check out the selections at all our great local stores so you will know what you’re looking for this weekend!

Creekside closes its doors By Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor Tolko Industries delivered some bad news last week. The lumber company announced Friday the permanent closure of its Creekside mill operations due in great part to a still-sluggish American lumber market and a diminishing local timber supply. As many as 141 workers were laid off in 2009 when Tolko originally closed the mill for what everyone had hoped would be a temporary time as it waited out the severe downturn in the lumber market. The company stated “it does not foresee a reasonable opportunity to reopen its Creekside mill” following an extensive operational review of mills in the Williams Lake area and will go ahead and dismantle the Creekside mill for permanent closure. “The decision not to reopen the mill was not an easy one to make,” said Mike Harkies, Vice President of Solid Wood. “When we curtailed operations at the mill indefinitely in 2009, we had expected that lumber markets would rebound within a year or two. However, US housing starts are still less than half of

what they were before the recession and, while demand from China has helped to keep our other mills open and US housing starts are slowly improving, lumber demand has still not recovered to a point that will enable all mills to operate viably.” Harkies said those factors, combined with increasing wood costs and deteriorating quality of timber as a result of the Mountain Pine
Beetle epidemic, led to the decision. Tolko further stated that Tolko and the United Steelworkers Local 1-425 have reached a tentative agreement around issues raised by the announcement, including payment of severance to affected employees. Creekside was a dimension sawmill, producing 2x4 through 2x12 lumber. Tolko now has two mills
left in Williams Lake - its Soda Creek and Lakeview operations which Harkies said they can now focus on making more commercially competitive into the future. Last month, West Fraser announced a major capital investment of a new stateof-the-art planer for its Williams Lake sawmill for 2013 which will greatly improve its efficiency.

GOOD: Food Box
Give the gift of food this Christmas By Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor Customers filed into the basement of the Elks Hall Monday afternoon to pick up their box of nutritious, fresh fruits and vegetables at bulk prices, offered through the Good Food Box Program. The not-for-profit program run out of the Women's Contact Society, offers families of any income a chance to participate in the cost-savings on the third Monday of every month. For the price of $10 for a small box and $15 for a large box, a family receives a box of high quality fresh fruits and vegetables that would normally cost 40 to 50 per cent more if purchased at full retail cost, says the program coordinator, Carmen Kallman. "We provide families affordable healthy, fresh food," said Kallman. "And it's easy. It's a one-stop shop." Inside this month's box, customers will find broccolli, carrots, onions, potatoes and cucumbers as well as apples and bananas sorted and filled by program volunteers. The box also includes recipe ideas for economical healthy meals. Longtime volunteer Margaret Andrew said she is both a customer and a volunteer for the program.

Good Food Box coordinator Carmen Kallman and volunteer Margaret Andrew hand out food to customers yesterday for the non-profit program. Kallman is asking that the public and businesses consider sponsoring a family with a Food Box donation this Christmas. "I really enjoy the work and I enjoy the people," said Andrew, who helps with sorting. Despite the low cost of the boxes, Kallman said she is finding an increasing number of families cannot afford to participate and is hoping that those looking to donate to a worthy cause this Christmas season, will think of giving the gift of healthy food.
"We invite businesses and community members to sponsor a family or an individual’s participation in the Good Food Box Program. You can choose to sponsor for up to 12 months and it is a simple and inexpensive way to have a major impact on a family’s health and wellness." Kallman stresses that the Good Food Box is open to everyone,
CRD residents vote on fire protection By Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor Rural residents in the Williams Lake Fringe Fire Protection area are headed to the polls this weekend to decide whether they want the fire protection offered by the City. General voting day will be held this Saturday, Nov. 24. at the Cariboo Regional District Board Room on Third Ave. in Williams Lake from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Advanced polling already took place Nov. 19.
The referendum question will ask if affected residents throughout the rural area surrounding the City of Williams Lake that currently receive services from the Williams Lake Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) wish to continue to receive fire protection services from the City of Williams Lake VFD for approximately $129/$100,000 (2013 estimate) of residential assessment. If this vote is successful, residents will continue to receive service by

Residents oppose forest application By Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor A community forest application (CFA) submitted to the province by the City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake Indian Band is not sitting well with rural residents east of town. According to David Zirnhelt, more than 60 residents from Big Lake, Horsefly and Miocene attended a meeting at the end of October and agreed unanimously to contest the application in its current form. On Nov. 2, the City and WLIB issued a joint statement heralding their CFA as “quite an achievement,” which will allow the partners to harvest 40,000m3 (or about 800 logging truck loads) of timber annually from two areas. According to the City, Flat Rock block is located to the west of the City, north of Highway 20 between Esler subdivision and the Fraser River. The Potato Mountain block, the one opposed by rural residents, is east of Williams Lake between the Horsefly Road and the Likely Road near Big Lake, B.C. “The largest part of the WL/WLIB CFA proposal is situated near the communities of Big Lake, Horsefly and Miocene than to the City of Williams Lake,” Zirnhelt said in the press release. “In fact the proposed boundary surrounds Big Lake right up to the school
playground.” Zirnhelt went on to say that the City and WLIB have been unwilling to include the rural communities as partners or adjust their boundaries to ensure they don’t preclude area-based forest tenure opportunities for the rural communities. In their news release on the matter, the City and WLIB stated they understood that people living near the community forest are interested in the management of the forests and its benefits and proposed those needs could be met three ways; through the creation of a com-
munity council, by offering work to local people and contractors and with the creation of a community fund to support grants to community groups and projects. Under the terms of the agreement, the City and Band would be responsible for sustainably managing the forest resources within the two logging blocks, including timber, water, recreation, wildlife habitat, range and cultural values; and for accommodating the interests of resource users such as ranchers, guide outfitters, trappers and water licensees.
Zirnhelt said the region (Williams Lake and surrounding communities) could benefit much more from a revised proposal, one with broader inclusion and benefits for the rural communities. “ We have requested that the Minster of Forests Lands and Natural Resource Operations (Honourable Steve Thomson) defer the application and direct his staff to facilitate the creation of a revised proposal which supports more of the intended benefits of Community Forest Agreements,” Zirnhelt stated.

On Friday October 26, 2012 TRU North, the Williams Lake Construction Association and School District 27 hosted an open house for the completion of the Residential Construction Program Project home. This is the 7th home that has been completed since the year 2000, and the first one built in the city centre. Students of the program worked for 7 months to bring the home from foundation to the lockup stage. The program takes students through their first and second year requirements and readily prepares them for the workforce. Ken Poulsen from TRU North and Ian Gordon from the WLCA worked together to guide the project from beginning to end. Ken Poulsen believes that the home is “top quality” and is always pleased with the transformation he sees in his students from start to finish. The proceeds of the home are put back into scholarships for TRU North.

Get with the times and bring on a multiplex I have been complaining for years now about how much Williams Lake needs a multi-purpose indoor recreation facility. Our community is so far behind in terms of recreation facilities that it’s time something gets done. It’s sad when communities such as Tumbler Ridge, Chetwynd, and Kitimat which are all much smaller than us have such gorgeous facilities. This proposed indoor facility could be used by thousands of people in dozens of organizations. The hundreds of youth using our local gymnastics club could take advantage of a new facility as the current one on Mackenzie Ave. is extremely old and needs an upgrade. Quesnel and Prince George have beautiful indoor soccer turf
complexes. Quesnel does not even have a men’s or ladies soccer league and yet have this gorgeous soccer facility. Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association is the largest organization between Prince George and Kamloops and we have around one thousand youth soccer players who could take advantage of this as well as adults. This field turf could be useful for Lacrosse, baseball, dry-land hockey training, fitness and aerobics classes, and countless other activities. One half of the facility could be field-turf and the other half could be a solid gym floor. The hard floor could be used for things like banquets, weddings, conferences, as well as typical sporting events such as volleyball, basketball, badminton and so on.
We are a winter community and for over half the year we are forced to take our recreation indoors. Another idea would be to have an indoor walking track around the facility which would give all citizens an opportunity to walk or jog throughout the winter months in a safe, warm, comfortable environment. Nobody wants to walk out in the ice and slush in the cold winter weather. My father suffers from health problems and his daily walks are critical to his health and there is no facility in town where he can go. A modern state-ofthe-art facility like this would cost tax payers a lot of money but at least it would be something I would gladly pay into. The entire community could benefit from the project and not just a select
few. I have seen taxpayer money go into a number of projects that I have never seen any benefit from. For example, despite being an impressive building, I have never been inside the Tourism Discovery Center and likely never will. There have been a number of projects I’ve disagreed with or shook my head at because I feel something like a multi-purpose facility should be at the top of our agenda. When a young family considers moving to Williams Lake one of the first things they look at are recreational opportunities. Our swimming pool is a basic rectangle with no aesthetically pleasing features like those small towns above. What better way to help entice people to our community than a beautiful new multi-purpose recreation facility.
Tis the season for protests The Steelworkers are holding a demonstration this Thursday at noon in front of Donna Barnett’s constituency office, at Herb Gardiner Park, to raise the issue of Chinese workers in B.C mines. The Steelworkers Union represent the workers from Mt. Polley. The union has also called
for support from the Canadian Autoworkers Union on the issue and have asked NDP candidate Charlie Wyse to speak at the event. The Steelworkers union has been holding protests across the province on the matter. On December 4, leaders of the Tsilhqotin National Government and their support-
ers will gather at their office at 4:30 p.m. before taking part in a peaceful protest walk to City Hall where TNG members are slated to speak to council on their opposition to Taseko's New Prosperity Mine proposal. Members from the Fish Alliance and Council for Canadians are expected to be on hand.

The words of one Cariboo Cowboy still ring true today
Every time I try to take a nap, someone starts up a chain saw or decides to mow the lawn. Now why is that? Like the other day I heard the clothes dryer pounding away out of kilter and figured
wife Carmen would deal with it but she wasn’t home. She had gone to get the mail. I was soaking in a hot bath reading “Cariboo Cowboy” by Harry Marriot founder of the OK Ranch. Harry had a charming turn of phrase and a ‘down to earth’ way of putting things. He represented for me, the old time respectability, when things were basically honest, forthright and fair and when a handshake sealed the deal. Anyway the dryer was still thumping
away. So lets just say, immersed in cowboy culture, I was disinclined to go downstairs and fix it. Let it fall off its hinges for all I was concerned. Resistance proved futile as the erratic crashing and banging was starting to get on my nerves, so I climbed out of the tub taking along a plastic doughnut neck brace (which I use for reading in the bath), and stalked off stark naked. Catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Yep, we all get old,
that is if we live long enough. The dryer was now drumming a tune. Dripping wet I trudged down the stairs leaving the comfort of the bath behind and depositing little puddles of water every second step or so. I entered the laundry room and was just about to hit the stop button, when the damn thing quit. The universe is always having a laugh at my expense. Yesterday, I woke up with the dog poking me in the eye with his paw at 5:30 AM. He had to pee. I must con-
fess, I took the Lord’s name in vain. So I figured that’s why I was skunked out fishing later on. “Thy blaspheme me, thou shalt remain fishless;” was God’s decree. I promised to pray before each fishing trip from now on. Why do we swear anyway? Is it ingrained in our nature, some genetic fix or some conditioned reflex? It was not my intention, it just blurted out. And do we really want to damn things, like the door when we stub our toe on it? Or burning
one’s tongue by being too hasty with hot meals? Does damned food taste worse? We all find reasons to curse now and then, its just that all things lead to God and if a negative response is what we offer, then of course a negative reply is often in the offing. That is to say, if we put out bad vibes, what kinda vibrations do we get in return? The universe always reflects back what we think. As Henry Ford the American industrialist once said; “Whether you think that you can,
or that you can't, you are usually right.” Back to Harry, who wrote “I never allowed myself any ideas of not making it, because nothing is ever gained or made, unless you have some get up and rustle about yourself.” How true, the Cariboo cowboy is one of a kind. Yes you were dead right old boy, we are only constrained by our thoughts of constraint. As the great Buddha has stated; “we are what we think.” This universal human truth, needs to come home to roost.

Debt and Taxes By Bob Simpson MLA Cariboo North It’s been interesting to listen to Liberal MLAs and candidates position themselves in advance of the upcoming budget and the election that will follow on its heels next May. The main argument they all seem to be making is that we need a Liberal government, because they alone can be trusted to hold the line on taxes and debt. Unfortunately, the facts don’t support this partisan contention. Take the carbon tax as an example. The Liberal government introduced this tax in 2008. Yet, despite having voted for successive increases to this tax since 2009, MLA Donna Barnett is now suggesting the carbon tax be “axed in an effort to curry favour with her rural voters, who generally don’t like this particular tax. Unfortunately, MLA Barnett fails to
point out that axing the carbon tax would create a $1.18 billion dollar hole in the government’s annual tax revenues. If she truly does want this tax ‘axed,’ then she has an obligation to tell her voters what tax increases she would support to replace that revenue. Or, would she want BC to have a structural deficit by not replacing the carbon tax with tax increases elsewhere? Speaking of deficits and the debt they create, I read that the newly nominated Liberal candidate for Cariboo North is claiming we need to re-elect a Liberal government because they will hold the line on debt — every dollar of which she views as an unfair burden on our children. In the spirit of informed debate: under the BC Liberals the provincial debt has ballooned from $33.8 billion in 2001 to a

projected $66.4 billion in 2014. This does not include the massive debt burden of BC Hydro or the financial liabilities the government holds for publicprivate partnerships. The Liberal track record on debt and deficits is on par with the NDP government
that preceded them, which does not support the argument that the Liberals ought to be reelected because of their fiscal prudence. Like all western governments, both of BC’s political parties have struggled to rein in spending while keeping taxes low. If we are to truly ele-
vate the debate leading up to the next election and get beyond petty partisan arguments, then every MLA and candidate should be compelled to give the public all of the facts and the background necessary to help them make an informed choice next May.
Junior league action feeding the hungry souls of hockey fans Half of the National Hockey League season has been iced and even if the team owners and player's association manage to rescue what games remain in this year's contests, this season will be a shell of its normal self. Instead of checking out hockey we have to put up with watching Gary Bettman’s mug on the news or sports every second or third night. Maybe watching a tractor pull on the sports network might be more exciting. This is the third season in Bettman's tenure as League Commissioner since 1993, that the players have been locked out.

no say. One good thing about the walkout, hockey fans who would normally be watching the NHL are now seeing how entertaining Junior Hockey is in this country. The other night I watched Regina Pats and Vancouver Giants Jr Hockey, play till overtime, when the game was decided by the 7th shooter in a ‘shootout’. The hockey was fast and certainly very high spirited along with a fair amount of talent and we got a glimpse at a couple of players who will be toiling in the parent league sometime soon. Still with sports, I
was disappointed to see what I consider to be a low turnout for the Lions CFL Western Final clash with Calgary. Just over 42,000 attended this playoff game ... the Edmonton Eskimos drew more than those numbers for some regular season games and they were sitting at the bottom of the west division. I guess there is some satisfaction in having a low attendance...not as many people will fall off the Bandwagon. I thought B.C. would win that game, just because I was cheering for them. ... Break and enters
Williams Lake RCMP are looking for suspects in a rash of break and enters over the weekend. On Nov 17 at 8 p.m. Police received an alarm call to a residence in the 1100 block of Mackenzie Ave N. When police arrived, they observed a door that had been forced open. The next night, on Nov. 18 at 10:20 pm, Williams Lake RCMP were dispatched to an alarm at Chucks Auto Supply at 861 Mackenzie Avenue South. Upon
police arrival, they discovered that the front window had been smashed out. Some items were stolen. On Nov 19, 2012 at 1:00 am, the home owner to a residence on 11th Ave North reported that her residence had been broken into. Entry was gained through a door by someone kicking in the side door.It would appear that a pellet gun was stolen. The Williams Lake RCMP are requesting anyone who has any information call the Williams Lake RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
Stolen items recovered
While investigating a break and enter earlier this month, Williams Lake RCMP discovered several items during a search which they believe were previously stolen. These items include a Black iPhone
in an Otterbox case, a red and black RCA portable DVD player, a song car stereo, a XM satellite radio, a set of keys which appear to be for a ATV or motorbike, a Garmin Niuvi portable GPS and a

Training Officer Capt. Mike Forster helps cadets from the 202 Chilcotin Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps of Williams Lake practice last week for their upcoming seamanship competition. The local cadet corps are hosting the Northern Region Seamanship Competition at WLSS all day Saturday. By Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor Sea cadets from across northern B.C. will be showing off their seamanship skills in Williams Lake this weekend. This is the second time the 202 Chilcotin Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps of Williams Lake will host the Northern Region Seamanship Competition, which will see teams of 10 cadets plus a spare and their coaches from Prince Rupert, Smithers, Prince George and Williams Lake compete against one another in everything from heaving line toss, to trivia to Boatswain call, to knots,
hitches and bends, whipping and splicing and of course, navigation and boat building. All told, the cadets will compete in several skills each in more than 10 categories beginning at 8 a.m. in the gymnasium at Williams Lake Senior Secondary Nov. 24. And for Williams Lake’s team, they are not taking the competition lightly. They have been busy cramming every evening with their mentors at their space located below the radio station. Last year their efforts paid off with the Williams Lake team winning the northern region competition and

Sea cadets specifically concentrate on everything Navy, with an emphasis on sailing. “I saw the benefits to me - it brought me out of my shell,” said Forster. “I wanted to give back what it gave to me so I never left.” Forster said it is really a testament to the quality and dedication of the cadet corps in Williams Lake when it’s noted that Harker and Forster are both Air Force Officers -- the Navy training is all conducted by the senior

Helps to activate naturally millions of stem cells from our own bone marrow. The increase in stem cells released from the bone marrow into the blood stream have the potential to become other types of tissue cells with specialized function. Stem cells will multiply and are able to become heart cells, liver cells or any other organ. Located everywhere in our body, stem cells are even under our skin layered between the epidermis and dermis. This is why an increase in stem cells under our skin may help to create a more youthful cell that would replenish elastin and collagen and thus may make us look younger. If our bone marrow does not produce enough stem cells this can result in many illnesses, especially a weak heart, kidneys, liver, pancreas, in fact all healthy functions of our body are decreased. Sufficient stem cells in our body have a great potential of self-repair and the ability to rejuvenate tissues. It does not contain live human stem cells as these can only be transplanted by surgery and are subject to immuno-suppressant drugs to avoid graft rejection. Naturopathic Doctor summarized his experience in writing after using this Stem Cell Activator: Used for all organ and tissue damage, heart attack damage, osteo-arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic brain #63 injury, muscular dystrophy, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, lupus, spinal injuries, and other diseases and tissue damage. The results have been very satisfactory to us and to the patients and the time varies with different patients depending on the extremity of the damage. Women witnessing the effects of Bell Stem Cell Activator: <Women looking for anti-aging help! We all want to slow down aging. After using a bottle of Bell Stem Cell Activator #63 my skin seemed smoother and brighter. My hair looked healthier. It seems to have a cleansing effect. I’m delighted. Leona McCormick, 50, Clgary, AB < All around healing effect! The first thing I noticed after starting Bell Stem Cell Activator #63 was that my skin feels firmer and stronger. My friends commented that my skin looks more vibrant. My doctor at my yearly physical told me that my blood pressure is significantly lower. Many good things are happening. Stamps poised to retake division top spot Priceless . Sean Glanville Cariboo Advisor It was another nail-biter of a game between the two local Central Interior Hockey League East division rivals in Williams Lake Friday. The last time the Williams Lake Stampeders and Lac La Hache Tomahawks met on October 6, a shootout was needed to decide a winner with the Stamps emerging 6-5 winners. On Friday it was the same story only this time it was Lac La Hache emerging victorious in the shoot-out and earning a 4-3 victory. The score remained tied 1-1 at the first intermission with Wilfred Robbins scoring for Lac La Hache and Dylan Richarson netting for the Stampeders. Lac La Hache re-took the lead in the second period on a goal by Wade Balbirnie to
take a 2-1 lead into the third period. In the third, Robbins added his second of the game as the Tomahawks went ahead 3-1. However, the Stampeders battled back with a pair of goals from Stu Sasges and a second from Richardson to tie the game at 3-3 and force overtime. The extra frame solved nothing and in the shootout Robin Gilbert scored the winning goal for Lac La Hache to earn a 4-3 win. Willie Sellars was the winning goaltender. Unfortunately, the Tomahawks came out on the losing end Saturday night. Lac La Hache hosted the Quesnel Kangaroos, a side the Tomahawks defeated 6-5 on the road two weeks prior on the strength of six power-play goals. However, it would be the ‘Roos who came away victorious on the strength of six
third period goals to earn a 9-8 victory. The Tomahawks carried a commanding 6-3 lead into the third period before falling apart defensively. Quesnel scored five times in the first 7:09 of the third period to jump in front 8-6 and never looked back. Lac La Hache had four players combine for 17 points in the game. Drew Rose led the team in scoring with five assists, the same stat line he registered the last time the two sides met. Both Lac La Hache captain Robin Gilbert and Wilfred Robins each had three goals and an assist for four points. Donovan Nicholas also had a big game with a goal and three assists for four points. Willis Harry added ™ the other ™ Tomahawk’s goal and Antoine Sargeant chipped in with a pair of assists. CIHL scoring leader Justin Fulton led

Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women The Women’s Contact Society is delivering the Purple Ribbon Campaign against violence in Williams Lake next week. Dec 6 is recognized nationally as a Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The Purple Ribbon Campaign was created to remember the 14 women who were
murdered in Montreal Dec. 6, 1989 during the Ecole Polytechnique massacre, where gunman Marc Lepine targeted and murdered the female students. The Purple Ribbon Campaign is a symbol of remembrance of all women who have died violently and the many thousands who con-
tinue to live with abuse, and to raise awareness of the pervasiveness of violence against women. The Women’s Contact Society is asking businesses to partner with them to deliver Purple Ribbons to the citizens of Williams Lake. Each participating business will display
a poster in their window and offer the free ribbons at their cash counter. The Violence Awareness & Prevention Committee of Community Policing will be hosting a free lunch at the Senior’s Centre Dec. 6 provided by the Chiwid Transition House. Everyone is invited to attend.

Sean Glanville Cariboo Advisor Here is an update on the dozen Williams Lake players competing in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League and another playing Junior A in the BCHL. Williams Lake defenseman Dane Birks of the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL has earned a hockey scholarship to Michigan Tech where he is committed for the 2014-15 season. The 6’3” Birks is in his rookie season and has two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 18 games. The 17-year-old Birks saw limited time with the Trail Smoke Eaters last season. He is a major reason small market Merritt sits in second place in the Interior Division with a 12-81-1 win-loss-tie-overtime loss record. Their 26 points have them tied with Kelowna in second and six points back of defending Royal Bank Cup Champion Penticton Vees. A pair of Williams Lake hockey players have propelled the Princeton Posse into the Okanagan Division lead in the KIJHL. Forwards Kaleb Boyle and Curtis Bond have helped the Posse to a 13-6-0-1 record and their team sits atop the division with 27 points. The duo has continued their scoring ways for Princeton combining for 47 points. Boyle, an 18-year-old left winger, leads the team in scoring and sits tied for eighth in league scoring with 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points in just 20 games. He sits just one point behind Osooyos’ Evan Last in scoring among rookies in the KIJHL. Bond, 19, in his second year with the Posse sits 30th in league scoring with 14 goals and seven assists for 21

Banff Film Fest returns
Angie Mindus photo
It's that time of year again – time for the ever-popular and inspiring Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour. The tour is coming to Williams Lake on Tuesday, December 4th at 7 p.m. in the Gibraltar Room. The Banff Mountain Film Festival, a program of The Banff Centre, is the largest, and one of the most prestigious, mountain festivals in the world. With stops planned in about 390 communities and 35 countries across the globe, this year’s tour features a collection of the most inspiring action, environmental, and adventure films from the festival. Traveling to exotic landscapes and remote cultures, and bringing audiences up-close and personal with adrenaline-packed action sports, the 2011/2012 World Tour is an exhilarating and provocative exploration of
the mountain world. The City of Williams Lake will feature films such as: Crossing the Ice, - Australian adventurers, James Castrission and Justin Jones, dare to tackle the perilous journey across Antarctica to the South Pole and back again, completely unassisted – just two men dragging their food and shelter across 1140 kilometres of barren ice. Thin Ice - Slide away with simple pleasures: skating and bathing. 5 Races - a look into the world of mountain running, depicting the joy, pain, transformation, and inspiration found in races around the world. Tickets are available at Cariboo Memorial Complex or Red Shreds and are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Tickets at the door will be $17 for adults and $12 for seniors and students.
Ranching neighbours across the Fraser River, Bud MacDonald and Julia Krynen, happily greet one another at the Cowboy Christmas Trade Show Saturday where vendors like Peter Mayer (right) showed off their country and western-themed wares.

IN THEATRES THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 2 Bella (Kristen Stewart) has given birth to a baby girl she names Renesmee, after her mother Renée, and Edward’s (Robert Pattinson) adopted mother, Esme. Jacob (Taylor Lautner) bonds with the child and helps the new parents keep the girl safe from his former wolf pack. When the Volturi hear about the child, they assume the Cullens have broken vampire laws and have created a newborn by turning a human child into a vampire child. Alice has a vision showing her that the Volturi are coming to kill them all, and no explanation will be good enough for them. The Cullens summon their vampire friends from around the world to get to know Renesmee so they can prove she’s a human/vampire hybrid. When Alice and Jasper disappear, the Cullens fear the worst and try to prepare themselves for an all-out war. LIFE OF PI A man named Pi tells a story that occurred when he was 16. When his family decides to move their zoo from India to Canada, Pi winds up as the only human survivor of the tragic sinking of a cargo ship. On the sea in a lifeboat, he’s accompanied by the other survivors—a zebra with a broken leg, a hyena, a female orangutan and a 450pound aggressive Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The hyena eats the zebra and then the orangutan. After the tiger eats the hyena, Pi tries catching fish to feed the tiger so he won’t get eaten himself. When officials from the Maritime department don’t believe his story, Pi tells them another one but this time with a slightly different angle. Andrew Garfield was initially considered for the role of “The Writer” but Tobey Maguire was cast. As filming progressed, Maguire was replaced by Rafe Spall because the director thought Maguire’s fame would have been too distracting. Life of Pi is based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel.

HOrOscOpe Wonderful things can happen when you really don’t expect them, Aries. You may experience a pleasant surprise in the next several days, so be on the lookout for excitement. Taurus, you may have to juggle a few events to get everything you want to have accomplished done by a certain date. It could prove to be a hairy few days. Last Week’s Answers
Virgo, now might be the time for a permanent change in scenery. Your finances might be ready for you to uproot and follow your heart to another locale.
Try your hand at this simple but tasty bean and vegetable soup It really is nice to have such mild weather for the last few weeks of November. If it were me, I could go along with this kind of weather until March and then spring happens. Seeing as how the weatherman never listens to me that much, I can hope this winter season will be decent. That means some snow but not the kind that comes up to your waist each morning and also some cool days, like maybe minus 15 but nothing like minus 30 or anything like that. When the weather gets cool we think of comfort foods … like
soups. Soups can be made in many different ways and can be a real good way of cleaning some foods out of the fridge or cupboard. So you have some celery, some mushrooms and green onions in your fridge
and they are getting a little rough around the edges, these veggies can be added into some beef broth, a little garlic, salt and pepper and you have some soup. There are more variations of this soup alone than there are telephone poles between here and Vancouver. Bean and Vegetable soup for cool days. 1 can of white beans, drained 2 oz of butter 1 large onion, finely chopped 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped 1 large carrot peeled and finely chopped
1 celery stalk, finely chopped 2 pints of vegetable stock 1 can of chopped tomatoes...save juice Tiny pinch of dried thyme 1 tsp sugar 1 bay leaf sea salt and pepper 2 tbsp finely chopped parsley In a pan or stock pot, melt the butter, add the onion and cook for a couple of minutes.... add the garlic and cook for a few more minutes until you put in carrots and celery and cook for about five minutes. Now put in the
Leo, a lot of things need to get done, but you’re worried there simply isn’t enough time to clear your docket. You have to cut out some of the nonessentials for now.
stock, beans, tomatoes, thyme, sugar, bay leaf and bring to a boil. Slow heat to a simmer and cook soup for about halfhour. Take out the bay leaf. Put half of the soup into a food processor and puree. Stir this mixture back into your pot and season with salt and pepper to taste...Ladle soup into bowls and garnish with the parsley. Great soup on a cool day. Can use for lunch or for a full meal with some nice buns and a little cheese for supper. Bye for now and Gooood Cooking.
Libra, you are ready to begin a big adventure. There may be moments that are scary, but overall the experience will be a good one for you and anyone else involved. Scorpio, although you like to step up to a challenge, this week you really are not feeling like exerting yourself. Take some time to recuperate and build up renewed energy. Sagittarius, this week you may be called to go above and beyond. As usual, you are ready to rise to the challenge. Take care to put your best effort into the task. That monster vacation you have been planning may have to be put on hold, Capricorn. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t take a few weekend jaunts to make up for it.

Douglas Charles
Lord
November 16, 1942 ~ November 17, 2012~
Our lives have been forever altered by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Doug left us one day after his seventieth birthday. He leaves to mourn his wife Laurie, sons Scott (Leah Ann), Ryan (Colleen), and grandchildren Austin, Morgan, Carson and Cordell. His love of life was infectious and he was a friend to many. Doug’s love of the outdoors was great and many bonds and memories made on the numerous hunting and fishing trips, but the love for his family was greater. He was always there no matter what with a smile, story or joke. He very simply made the world a better place. Our memories are many and we are so very thankful we had Grandpa with us for as long as we did. With our memory bank full Grandpa we wish you a safe journey and know you are on your way to the river. There will be no formal funeral at Grandpas request, however a memorial tea will be held at a later date.
