C.O. Service predation control questioned Angie Mindus Cariboo Advisor A local predation control business owner called ranchers and doctors to testify on his behalf during an Environmental Appeal Board last week, which included the witnesses airing their dissatisfaction with the Conservation Officer Service.

The quasi-judicial tribunal was conducted last Thursday and Friday at the Pioneer Complex after Kyle Lay of Layser Kennels made an appeal earlier this year to have the Ministry of Environment’s decision overturned to not renew his operating permit.

Lay’s one-year permit which allowed him to be hired privately to kill problem wolves, bears and cougars predating on livestock expired last spring and was not renewed.

During the time his permit was active last year Lay removed three packs of wolves totaling 13 animals predating on livestock all west of the Fraser River.

Lay said previously

that his business was a small one, merely meant to give livestock producers a private option to what he says are ballooning wolf populations wreaking havoc in the Cariboo Chilcotin.

Previous to Lay being issued the one-year permit, Lay was privately contracted for a pilot project funded between the federal and provincial governments which saw Lay work for the B.C. Cattlemen’s Wild Predator Loss Control and Compensation Pilot Program from 2002 to 2010 which operated quietly to kill cougars, wolves, grizzlies and black bears predating on domestic livestock.

The witnesses at the hearing last week gave personal accounts of livestock losses due to predator attacks which they believed were due to a lack of response by or training of conservation officers.

On the government’s behalf, manager Rodger Stewart called Chief Superintendent of the Conservation Officer Service Barry Farynuk

to testify Friday.

During his testimony, Farynuk said management was influenced by cost-cutting measures in 2002 to make a “significant shift” in officer’s priorities.

“Predation response fell off the mark,” Farynuk said, noting human safety has always been the service’s top priority, followed by property protection, environmental investigations and proactive enforcement.

Farynuk clarified through 2002 to 2010, officers were still responding to predation complaints on wildlife however that “maybe there was some uncertainty as to priorities.”

Farynuk said there are no longer any uncertainties of the government’s direction, and conservation officers across the province are currently receiving various levels of training regarding predation control.

“Although we took a eight, nine year hiatus this isn’t a new business for us,” Farynuk said of the C.O. Service

reclaiming all control and work regarding predation issues on property.

Farynuk said the Conservation Officer Service has been in existence for 106 years,

providing all levels of service regarding animal resources and want it back the way it has always operated.

Farynuk also testified the service had 23,000 calls for service provin-

cially this year and he was not aware of one formal complaint against officers. He added there were 891 calls for service in the Cariboo Chilcotin this year.

Searle said he would give his decision in writing within the next three months. Under the Wildlife Act Searle has several options available, including the power to reinstate Lay’s permit.

friends, First Nations leaders and family who hooted and hollered as they congratulated the now twice-elected mayor, reflecting Cook’s signature collaborativeapproach style of doing business.

“This has been an emotional day. I couldn’t have done it without all of you,” a jubilant Cook told supports as she stood beside her husband of 25 years, Dan Cook.

“This is a night I will never forget.”

Before, during and after the campaign and election, Cook sat down with the Cariboo Advisor to give a series of personal interviews sharing how her life has prepared her for this role.

A wife and mother, Cook has also worked for the last 27 years as an instructor/coordinator for the ninemonth business technologies program at TRU, which she said has helped prepare her for her role of mayor through listening to her student’s stories.

“It has definitely widened my understanding.”

Cook has said her aboriginal students have particularly taught her a lot the past ten years.

“That changed everything for me. I think there is something powerful that happens when you’re able to listen to one another’s stories. It helps you find a way forward.”

Cook has certainly found her own way forward as a community leader, in her first term gaining national attention for tackling escalating city crime while at the same time bridging the gap between Williams Lake and area First Nations’ communities.

Cook received her most public political backing from local Shuswap leaders and, at the eleventh hour of her campaign, even received an unsolicited letter of endorsement from the leaders of the

Tsilhqot’in National Government who represent the communities opposing Taseko’s New Prosperity mine project, a project Cook wants so badly she can taste it.

“It brought me to tears,” Cook said of the letter. “And it gives me hope, hope for the future.”

Looking back at her life, Cook says all of life’s trials and tribulations have led her to this moment.

Cook was just six and living in North Vancouver when her parents divorced, leaving her mother to raise three daughters on her own. Cook also kept a close relationship with her father, a corporate lawyer who was then the President of the Socred Party.

“My father was probably the first person to introduce politics to me.”

“I grew up with quite a diverse political perspective from the left to the right ... I think I was always brought up to be a part of the solution. That was very ingrained from a young age. I guess it was in my blood.”

With her step-father stationed in Williams Lake, the family, which blended Cook and her two sisters with her step-father’s three children, two girls and a boy, moved to the lakecity in time for Cook to start Grade 8.

Another impressionable experience for Cook occurred during the years Cook’s oldest sister Kathy suffered from a brain tumor and surgery, and was confined to a wheelchair the rest of her life as a result.

“It kept things in perspective as a teenager growing up -- to appreciate good health and opportunities.”

Kathy passed away in 1997 but Cook says her sister’s struggles also taught her the importance of wheelchair accessibility for communities.

Cook met her husband Dan, a millwright at West Fraser, in 1981 while she was working in Williams Lake during the summer months while completing university at UBC, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, with a minor in Economics in 1984.

Cook married in Williams Lake in Oct. 1986 and the two started a family, Steffanie,

Daniel, and Meagan.

Steffanie, who worked as her mom’s campaign manager, and her husband Chris MacLeod have made the couple grandparents twice over with three-year-old grandson Kailen and baby granddaughter Indie since Cook’s time as mayor.

“I wouldn’t be standing here today if if weren’t for my family,” Cook said moments after winning Saturday night.

Over the span of her political career, Cook and her family have run six consecutive municipal campaigns.

Her first foray into municipal politics saw Cook unseat a councillor when she was just thirty five years old and a mother of three (her youngest Meagan just a toddler), serving from 1996-1999. After that, the family suffered through three agonizing failed bids for mayor in 1999, 2002 and again in 2005 to finally win the mayor’s seat in 2008.

Last week’s 2011 win makes Cook the only mayor in 15 years to serve two consecutive terms as Williams Lake mayor since Walt Cobb.

And Cook says she is focused, excited and energized to get back to work for residents after what she calls “a decisive victory.”

The first order of business is to meet with city councillors and staff to prepare for December 6’s inaugural meeting, where Cook and her six councillors will be formally sworn in.

After that, it will be all business for Cook, who says her top priority this time around is economic development.

“We want long term, well thought out plans for our economic future and that is what we have been working on,” Cook says of her business expansion and attraction initiative which has tasked local heads of mining, forestry, the Business Improvement Association, the university and Chamber of Commerce to come up with and prioritize specific economic strategies.

No stranger to politics, William was the chief at Xeni Gwet’in for many years. He was unable to be reached for comment by press time.

Area D director Deb Bischoff, McLeese Lake area, won her seat by acclamation as did Area F director Joan Sorley, Horsefly, Likely, 150 Mile.

The official list of elected directors will be released Wednesday, Nov. 23, and the inaugural meeting for the new directors will be Friday, December 9

Cook won the election with 1,777 votes, beating out opponents Nelson who garnered 1,090 and Cobb with 747.

All former councillors wanting to serve again were granted that wish by voters, and

two new faces, Ivan Bonnell and Danica Hughes, will be joining the table.

Laurie Walters won the most councillor votes with 2,296.

Surinderpal Rathor came in second with 2,022 votes, followed closely by Sue Zacharias with 2,004.

Ivan Bonnell will be new to council this term after garnering 1,742 votes while Geoff Bourdon will stay on with 1,501 votes.

Newcomer Danica Hughes rounded out the top six with 1,156, narrowly beating out Mike Jacobson with 1,135 votes.

‘Tis the season for shopping smart and from the heart In the height of craft sale season in the middle of November it easy to get swept away into the Christmas spirit, and these craft fairs offer wonderful unique gifts for those special people on your list.

Craft markets often a great alternative to shopping malls, and often are full of unique items that just may be perfect for someone on your list. But be careful to keep your Christmas shopping from becoming a collection of knick-knacks that will end up getting trashed.

As I’ve gotten older and taken on buying all my own gifts for the people on my list I’ve been overcome with this feeling of finding the perfect gift that they aren’t just going to toss into a box or onto a shelve and forget about.

I think Christmas and the gifts that go along with it have lost

all meaning behind them, instead of buying people more stuff they don’t necessarily need or even want is a waste of money, time and of the wonderful meaning behind Christmas.

I think when it comes down to buying gifts it shouldn’t be about how much money was spent, or how it’s the coolest, latest toy. It should be about the meaning behind it. It’s the meaning behind the gift that should matter.

In times when everything is over commercialized in our society, Christmas gifts should come from the heart, yes maybe even though the person receiving the gift may not always understand, at least they will appreciate the fact you thought about the gift.

I find it very hard to spend money on something I am not positive will either mean something to the person, or at the very least be

useful.

The last thing I want is to be the person giving useless, meaningless gifts that end up hidden away in box, or even worse re-gifted along with other useless junk collected over the years.

The Cariboo Chilcotin is host to many quaint and heartwarming Bed and Breakfasts. Why not give the gift of a weekend away together this winter? The memories will last a lifetime.

Christmas is about giving, but not giving just anything so the next time you are out Christmas shopping and you are holding up a pair of golf ball locater glasses you think would be perfect for Uncle Bill just think does he really need these, and does he really want these?

Try this season to be the person giving those gifts that wont be forgotten the day after Christmas.

The Made in the Cariboo Craft sale this weekend is a great place to find something unique, and meaningful for the people on your list this year.

Another source of inspiration could be found at Scout Island this weekend at the Holiday Earth-Friendly Family Event. Make a wreath, exchange some special preserves and spend some time with those you love.

When it comes down to it, knickknack or not, if the gift you are giving has meaning and your giving it from your heart, that’s all that really matters.

So put in your favorite Christmas CD, and make your Christmas list and have fun this holiday season. Remember a little thought goes a long way, so use your brain before you pull your wallet out and mindless fill those shopping bags this season.

Armed with a touque, scarve, jacket and of course his reindeer ears, four-year-old Max Brown enjoys all the festivities the Winter Light Celbration had to offer Friday night at Spirit Square downtown.

It’s all about the way you doff your cap I’ve got this pair of cowboy boots that pinch a bit but they give me two inches in height and make me part of the scene up here. Vanity will rule out sanity every time.

Once I was dressing for a party and being somewhat of an artistic gent, I put on a blue silk shirt and a necklace of amber beads that seem to just the right combo.

However I took a fancy to a pendant and decided to wear that around my neck too. Got to the party and some guy strides up to me and says; ”Are you gay?”

Of course we all like to look nice and wear fine clothing but there is also (in my case anyway), the tendency to dress most comfortably and put on some aged rags affecting the rumpled old fart look.

What do I care anyway?

At my age nobody can tell me I look like hell.

They can go there for all I’m concerned. I am reminded of that old toast; ‘”Here’s to hell, may your stay there be as pleasant as your trip to get there.” And I’m far past the attempt at trying to attract a member of the opposite sex.

Mind you, I still keep my fantasies alive.

When we were

young boys, sneaking off to look at the lady’s underwear section in the Eaton’s catalogue was the risqué thing to do. Now what they wore in those days, was a far cry from Victoria’s Secret let me tell you. It took a powerful imagination to get worked up about anything that might be underneath those thick layers of wool and cotton. For those who may not know, Victoria’s Secret is an American retailer of women's wear, lingerie and beauty products.

Started by a man who felt embarrassed trying to purchase lingerie for his wife in a department store, he created an empire with sales of over US$5 billion.

(This is turning into a plug.)

Some many years ago I was at a conference

at a fancy hotel in Los Vegas when I had the good fortune to spend the night with a lady friend. In the morning the maid had scooped up her Victoria’s Secret nightgown along with the bed sheets. So my friend, who was a very proper Englishwoman, phoned up the front desk to inquire about the missing item. She was at all times courteous and polite but was getting the run-around.

Fortunately, a big bombastic, dyed blonde American woman was in the room and overheard the conversation.

“Gimme that phone”; she yelled, then simply blasted the person on the other end of the line. “If that nightgown doesn’t show up within the hour, this will be the last time this annual convention will end

up in your hotel.” she decreed. Within fifteen minutes, the head of hotel security knocked on the door with the nightgown, extremely apologetic. This was a lesson for me, in the two cultural approaches to solving a problem.

But I digress.

Carmen put my favouite pair of jeans in the garbage, saying they were too old, worn and ripped. Okay maybe they are faded, have holes in the knees and smell, but that’s no reason to get rid of them. In my opinion, they are quite fashionable. “Yeah if you were 50 years younger”; sez Carmen.

Well okay, my clothes are not exactly in style anymore. Carmen, further states; “ its time for a change, the world has moved on dear.” “Well

let it. I’m into retro”; I respond. “ “Nonsense”; says my dear wife, “we are going shopping.”

I have to admit, I do have a glorious enthusiasm for the finer things in life, (if only I could afford them.) Even my neighbour once admonished me to go out and buy some new clothes. All this from a guy whose his belt was a bungy cord. I told him to take a short walk off a long pier, (Or is it the other way around?)

This whole aversion to other people’s taste in my wearings started when my mother bought me a pair of Buster Brown shoes as a kid. Tough as nails, built to last several lifetimes with brass eyelet's and laces like chain mail. I was certain the soles were made from the cast off tires

from 18 wheelers. Real clunkers that I despised and that cramped my feet as I grew older. We lost them in a move, to my great relief.

I like draping my clothes over chairs, doorknobs, anything handy.

That way I can readily find them. Carmen on the other hand puts everything away, out of sight, sometimes threatening me with purgatory. Now I am sure God’s grace extends to the untidy too. We are all just trying to get through our lives with the best of intentions and in the best way possible. Its just that we are after all, human and can’t escape from our failings to do right. I told Carmen that if her problem with me persists, please contact a service representative.

A ring for the season Courtney Taylor Cariboo Advisor Living in a rustic city lie Williams Lake, there are often many more occasions where jeans and cowboy boots are acceptable, but this year’s Cariboo Foundation Hospital Trust Formal Christmas Gala is not one of occasions.

It’s time to dust off those fancy clothes, and get all dressed up for a night of dinner, dancing, and raising money for a great cause this Saturday night.

There will be live entertainment, and a silent auction for Gala guests, and all the money raised will go toward purchasing a new digital mammography unit for Cariboo Memorial Hospital.

One of the biggest fundraisers is Grand Prize draw for the specially designed diamond ring that is valued at just under $10,000. This year’s ring was once again designed and handmade by Geoff Bourdon at Woodland Jewellers. “This is the third year we have made the ring, and the

Never underestimate the power of a shoebox Courtney Taylor Cariboo Advisor The power behind one little shoebox may be underestimated by most people, but the children who receive an Operation Christmas Child shoebox at Christmas would beg to differ.

Mind you these aren’t ordinary empty shoeboxes, these ones are filled with small practical gifts and most of all to the child receiving these boxes they are often filled with hope.

“We are a blessed country,� said co-coordinator, Tracey Thiessen. “(These shoeboxes) give kids in other countries hope.�

Cariboo Bethel Church is the main drop off location for the charity, and all shoeboxes need to be in to the office by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25. “These boxes are going to kids who may have never received a gift in their lives and may never get another gift,� said Thiessen.

Some items that Thiessen says are a good idea for the boxes are practical, educational items like pencils, erasers and pencil crayons.

Other items that work are stuffed animals, small toys or hard candies. Thiessen says another great idea is a new toothbrush, socks or t-shirts. “Some people even put shoes in their shoe boxes and pack other items around them,� she says.

“We are in times, for many, of hardship,” says Marg Evans, Education Coordinator for the Conservation Society.

“Along with this comes a season where more spending.”

Evans said because of that situation, they wanted to put together a fun community event that required little to no spending.

“Someone can drop by and work on a wreath, create an inex-

pensive gift, or do an exchange on the white elephant table,” said Evans. “And there is no need to stay the whole day.”

She also said there will be activities for children which will

allow parents the opportunity to work on something of their own while being able to enjoy a stress free environment.

On top of all the fun activities, there will also be lots of

local food provided by the Cariboo Growers according to Evans, but people are free to bring along something to share.

“There will be home made soup and buns, along with some baked

goods,” said Evans.

Evans also adds there will be membership information and lists of local charities for people who are looking for ideas for low-impact, socially positive giving for the holiday season.

Operation Red Nose rides again Letting lose at the office Christmas party is just fine, as long as you’ve secured yourself a safe way home.

Starting this Friday, Operation Red Nose will once again be out in the lakecity ready and able to give anyone who needs it a ride home.

It’s a great program to give people a safe ride home,” said Dave Dickson Volunteers will be

available between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Nov. 25 and 26, along with Dec. 2,3,9,10,16,17, and 31.

And Dickson says

they are always looking for more volunteers from the community, hey just need to get a hold of him ahead of time.

Seery says she is very flexible and people just need to call to see if she can accommodate their group and time.

“So many people don’t even know I am out here, but once they find out they come and really enjoy it,” says Seery.

From birthday parties, ladies’ nights, or daycare centres, she welcome all different ages in her shop and all different skill levels.

Seery has done ceramics as a hobby since her 20’s, and in 2006 started on a path that led to her shop.

“Things fell into place,” she says. “First we bought a smaller ceramic business in

town, and then a larger one.”

In 2008, her shop was finished - complete with shelves for all her molds, paints, as well as tables, chairs and lots of light.

“It’s a very relaxing atmosphere,” she says.

School board trustees elected and ready to go Voters in School District 27 chose their new school board trustees during last week’s elections.

Zone 6, the City of Williams Lake, was won by political newcomer Dr. Doug Neufeld with 2057

votes over opponent Rob Zacharias with 1037. During campaigning Neufeld said his top priority would be to support teachers and look for a long-term plan for the district.

Zone 5, Williams Lake

fringe area, was won by Sheila Boehm with 337 votes. Her opponents Jim Ritchie received 144 votes while Oleh Lazarchuk won 81 votes. In Zone 4, Horsefly, Likely and 150 Mile House, incumbent

Heather McKenzie was narrowly out-seated by newcomer Jackie Austin in a 124-138 vote. Austin said she was prompted to run for trustee after feeling frustrated that parents weren’t being listened to in recent

years by the board.

In Zone 7, the Chilcotin, Joyce Cooper was recently elected by acclamation after her opponent Richard Elliott withdrew from the race. In the southern half of the district William Van

Osch, Tanya Guenther and Patricia Baker were all elected by acclamation.

The new board has about four months to familiarize themselves with their new jobs before making critical budget decisions.

Interdivisional Seaman competition unites Cadets Courtney Taylor Cariboo Advisor The 202 Chilcotin Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps hosted the Inter Divisional Seamanship Competition, welcoming two other corps

from northern B.C. on Saturday for a day full of events.

The other two Corps participating were Prince George and Smithers.

The Cadets participated and evaluated

individually and as a team in various activities.

Some of these activities included sheer leg construction, knot tying, coiling, heaving a line and the poplar Boatswain Pipe which

is basically a whistle that the Cadet perform different calls on.

“My favorite is the Boatswain pipe,” said Eric Bristow, a Sea Cadet for four years.

According the Cadets, another big

part of Cadets is the new people they get to meet and the friends they make from all over Canada.

“I love getting together with other Cores, and seeing old friends,” said Tanya

Vigeant, a Sea Cadet for three years.

Bristow said he has friends from all over Canada The 202 Chilcotin Royal Canadian Sea Cadets from Williams Lake were the winners

this year, and will go to Victoria in March to compete in the provincials where they hope to qualify to go to nationals out East.

Prince George came in second with Smithers coming in third.

The Williams Lake Stamps come back from a loss in Lac Hach Friday night to beat the Tomahawks Saturday night in Williams Lake with a 5-2 score.

In a home and home series between the Tomahawks and the Stampeders both teams won at home and lost on the road.

Friday night the Lac La Hache Tomahawks were victorious over the Stamps on their home turf winning 5-3.

The next night, a mere 60

kilometres or so down the road, the Stamps came out on top on their home turf winning 5-2 over the Tomahawks.

Top scorers for the Stamps on Saturday night were Francis Johnson, and Tyrell Robbins both with two goals apiece.

Next weekend the Stamps

are on the road to take on the Omineca Ice, and Houston Luckies. The Stamps will be back at home Dec. 3 to take on the East Division leaders, the Quesnel Kangaroos.

Currently the Stamps are 6-4, and will be looking for some wins on the road this weekend.

Strong showing for Pee Wees Courtney Taylor Cariboo Advisor The Williams Lake Timberwolves Pee Wee Tier 2 team hosted a tournament at the Cariboo Memorial Complex over the weekend, and came away with second place.

There were teams from Fort St. John, Quesnel, Salmon Arm, Vernon and Prince George in town for the tournament that saw the home team dominate all but one of their round robin games.

They started the tournament off with a 7-3 win over Quesnel on Friday night and a then had a big win over Salmon later that night 8-1.

Saturday started off with a 6-0 victory over Fort St. John and finished Saturday with a tough game against Vernon losing 7-1.

The team started Sunday off with a win against Prince George with a 6-4 score, which meant they finished the round robin with a 4-1 record.

They went on to the final game on Sunday at noon against Vernon.

The T-Wolves fought hard against the Tier 1 team but ended up losing 4-0, with all of Vernon’s goals scored on the power play.

The T-Wolves dominated the ice for most of the weekend, and showed they could compete.

(NC)—Many Canadians base their outdoors activities on the air quality index, but when it comes to taking action to improve indoor air quality in the home, Canadians appear to have room for improvement.

A Direct Energy survey, conducted by Angus Reid, showed a whopping 69 per cent of Canadians don’t have their ducts cleaned on a regular basis, and 73 per cent admitted they did not know what a heat recovery

2 cups of coarsely grated aged cheddar cheese ½ cup of soft butter

1 cup all purpose flour 1 tsp paprika 25 large green olives with pimiento centres In a large bowl, blend together cheese and butter with a mixer... add in flour and paprika...mix well. Shape 1 tablespoon of cheese mixture around each olive, dipping hands in flour, if necessary to prevent a lot of sticking stuff on your hands.

Bake 10 to 15 minutes until they are nice and golden in colour. (Half time score...10-3 for Lions) Go Lions... The Grey Cup would look good in BC. Bye for now and Good Cooking.

CRD Board Highlights – November 17, 2011 2012 Central Cariboo Grants for Assistance The Cariboo Regional District Board endorsed the recommendation from the Central Joint committee regarding the 2012 Cariboo/City of Williams Lake joint grants for assistance applications. A total of $19,958 in grants for assistance was approved under the CRD and City of Williams Lake Memorandum of Understanding.

The City of Williams Lake will contribute $13,970.60 while the CRD will contribute $5,987.40 which will be shared equally between Electoral Areas D, E, and F. The Board also referred two other requests back to Central Joint. These applications are for requests from the Williams Lake Dry Grad Committee and the Williams Lake Daybreak Rotary Club.

Barkerville Photographic Exhibit to Tour China The Regional District received information in a release from Premier Christy Clark regarding a new Barkerville exhibit slated to tour China. The document announced the signing of a letter of intent between Barkerville and the Guangdong Museum of Overseas Chinese that will form the foundation for a tour of the Barkerville photographic exhibit in China. The exhibit, entitled “Who Am I?”, explores the lives of Chinese migrants who came to Barkerville in the late 19th and early 20th centuries during the gold rush. It is expected to be on display at the Guangdong museum in Guangzhou in the spring of 2013.

Building Inspection Services for Williams Lake The City of Williams Lake and the Cariboo Regional District have developed a five year agreement to provide Building Inspection Services to residents of Williams Lake through a shared Building Inspection Service.

The Cariboo Regional District Board endorsed this agreement and it will now be presented at the next Williams Lake Council meeting for consideration on November 29.

CRD Service Recognition The Cariboo Regional District recognized five directors who will not be returning to office for the next term. The Directors were awarded with tokens of appreciation for their years of public service. The directors include; Art Dumaresq (Area H – 12 years), Roberta Faust (Area B – three years), Steve Mazur (Area E – three years), Rick Mumford (Area K – seven years), and Jay Vermette (six years).

Community to Community Forum Scheduled Cariboo Regional District Board members have been invited to attend a Community to Community Forum with the Nazko First Nations. The forum is tentatively scheduled to take place in January, 2012 at the Nazko Community Hall.

BC Community Recreation Grant Program The Cariboo Regional District will be submitting two applications to the new BC Community Recreation (BCCR) Grant Program provincial funding program.

The first project is a joint application with the City of Quesnel for

$7.5 M for the North Cariboo Multi-Centre.

The second application will be for the continuation of the CRD’s Wheelchair Accessible Trails. The deadline for applications is December 28, 2011.

The BCCR program will provide up to 80 percent of eligible costs.

The Project Categories for the funding program include: Recreation and sport projects such as indoor sports and recreation infrastructure Bike paths Walkways Greenways Amenities related to the above infrastructure Capital projects that get children and youth playing again The Selection

Criteria for the BCCR grant include advancing the principal of being active, community health benefits, and

additional criteria such as financial planning, partnerships, sound risk management. Eligible projects must be com-

pleted by March 31, 2015.
