Family

I am thrilled to be introducing our Carinbundi supporters to the Carinbundi Kids Family Day Care in this edition (See pages 3 & 4). CEO Open Day Since becoming CEO of Carinbundi, I have held regular CEO days to better get to know clients and support workers. It is an opportunity for them to put forward their ideas, recommendations as well as complaints. Communication is key to truly understanding what our clients are looking for in a disability service provider. We have decided to include Family members, carers, clients and stakeholders in future CEO Open Days. The next session will be on Friday 17 June 2022 from 11.00am to 1.30pm at our Barolin Street centre. Come along anytime and enjoy a sausage sizzle! There is no need to book, simply turn up at a time that suits you. I would also like to wish all of our friends and families a very Happy Easter!

In our individual bedrooms we can offer a choice of bed depending on needs. We have queen ensembles or electric hospital style beds. All rooms are air-conditioned with private television. We have hoists that are used by our staff when needed and they receive regular training to keep them up to date with how to safely use this equipment. Our aim is to help people feel safe and secure if they need assistance getting in and out of bed, having a bath or shower or just transferring to a comfy chair. We try to ensure that participants have a choice of support worker, particularly in regard to hygiene support. While all staff are trained to perform hygiene tasks in an efficient and respectful manner we acknowledge gender preference when participants need supports in this and in all personal care. Staff also receive training in diabetes management/insulin training, epilepsy training, peg and stoma management, use of epi pens, medication administration and safe manual handling practices. All staff are given instruction on being able to safely and securely place people who use a wheel chair into one of our specialised vehicles so that we are able to get out and about with our participants. Our staff always involve participants in meal and snack choices while being mindful of good nutrition and healthy choices. If you would like to know more about Respite, please call our intake team on 4158 9600 and arrange to come in and have a look.

Whether a client requires constant supervision or minimal assistance, our goal is to deliver quality services that are personalised and professional. We currently have a couple of vacancies in our SIL houses. "Ideally, we like to start with a person's individual needs and develop their living arrangements around that." "This includes finding a suitable house, cotenants, support-workers and coordinating work and social activities. We can also help develop a budget + hundreds of other little things that make the transition to SIL run smoothly."

Carley Palmer Accommodation Manager

Our current vacancies include: 2 x 2:1 Vacancies 1 x 3:1 Vacancy Even if you are not ready for SIL right now, we encourage you to think about it and come in and have a chat. Christmas 2021 Photos We are hiring Our Awesome Support Workers

Recruiting the best support workers is our mission. Getting the right staff with the right attitude is paramount for us. You may see us advertising for staff on a regular basis and we wanted to assure you that we do this to ensure we never miss out on that awesome support worker. If you know anybody who you think would make a great support worker, please ask them to contact our HR Department at hr@carinbundi.com.au. We are also recruiting for a new Health & Wellbeing Officer. For more information, go to SEEK.

Deb McCullough, Mary Muller, Cimah OrionWilliamson

Carinbundi is lucky to have a number of longserving support workers who have been with our organisation for over 15 years. Over the next few months, we plan to introduce you to these awesome team members. This month, we have Deb, Mary & Cimah who are all currently located at Day Services. Deb has been with Carinbundi for 15 years and has worked in all of our divisions from Kids' House (MiniMe), SIL and now at our Day Service program. You have to let them (clients) grow and not be the 'mother' figure. Cimah has also worked across all of our areas and loves the "unpredictablility" of the role. Watching clients thrive into adulthood and gain their independence is a highlight. Mary started back in 1995 when Carinbundi was established and is our longest serving support worker! Mary brings music and laughter to the group as well as teaching clients new things everyday. Seeing clients achieve a goal for the first time is a privilege.

Peer Support Groups Did you know we have a number of peer support groups at Carinbundi? We have a Mens' group and a Girls' group. The groups meet regularly and enjoy going out in small groups with like-minded friends. The clients get to choose where they want to go each week. if you would like to be part of one of our groups, please call our Intake Team on 07 4158 9600 for more information. Maybe you would like to start up your own Special Interest Group. Call us because we often have people looking to make new friends and learn new skills.

Cont. Mary said, "It really is a special job where you can come to work and come into contact with people of differing abilities and being able to nurture that potential. It is a privilege to do this. Everyday is different and I continue to see people I have supported during my time at Carinbundi and they always remember me and the things we used to do."
