Fitness For Mature Adults
Fifties Plus Fitness
Boomer Fitness Research shows great benefits for adults from weight lifting. This is especially relevant for adults of the ‘Boomer’ generation as muscle size and strength declines rapidly after 55 years causing loss of functional capacity. As we age, the body’s ability to construct new protein slows and our body begins to break down faster than it can rebuild itself. Consequently, we lose muscle tissue and gain body fat. A proper resistancetraining program can prevent the lean tissue declines seen in sedentary individuals. Some muscle tissue and strength loss can be reversed in a very short period. Weight lifting builds muscle and strength safely, and improves movement ability. If you are a Boomer, this course is for you, combining lectures with exercise sessions. The objective is to teach you how to lift weights effectively and safely in a fitness club or at home. Each session includes 1 hour lecture and 1 hour exercise.
This program is for people 50 years of age or older. The two 90-minute land classes include a thorough warm-up and stretch, cardiovascular activity, allimportant strengthening exercises and a relaxing cool-down. There is one 60-minute session in the pool (shallow water). The objective of this class is to build and maintain physical vigour safely and enjoyably. Code

Myofascial Stretching
Pilates, Abs and Back, MFS Fusion
Traditional stretching techniques only stretch the muscle tissue. MFS, however, is a revolutionary technique that stretches both the muscle and its fascia, which is the connective tissue that both surrounds and interconnects every entity in our body, including muscle, bone, nerves, blood vessels, and organs. MFS significantly improves flexibility and plays an important role in recovery after accidents and trauma.
This class is perfect for you if you want nicely toned abs and increased core strength. You’ll experience the benefits of Pilates with whole body movements that perpare your body for any sport and day to day life activities. You’ll leave feeling taller and stretched out with the myofascial stretches that are added throughout the hour class. The blend of these three classes will leave you revived and energized!

Skiptastic
The Pilates Method consists of exercises that aim to strengthen the body’s deep core postural muscles to improve the way we walk, work and play. You will increase flexibility, develop strong abdominal muscles, tone and lengthen all the other muscles in your body, move with a new sense of grace and fluidity, and develop a uniformly balanced body. The benefits are not only physical but mental and spiritual as well. The concentration and breathing technique required will help to calm and clear your mind and move your awareness inward.
Boxers do it, children love it, and it’s the most contagious cardio workout you’ll experience. Skip yourself fit with Skiptastic – a fun, heart-pumping class that is suitable for beginners learning to jump rope and offers advanced participants the chance to learn new skipping tricks and challenge their endurance. Aikido is a modern, non-aggressive Japanese martial art developed in the early part of the 20th century and is both a method of self-defense and a spiritual discipline. The essence of Aikido technique is graceful spherical motion that can be used to re-direct an attackers energy. Aikido techniques use centripetal forces, leveraging of joints, and movement rather than brute strength and muscle power. Aikido promotes a high degree of cooperation between partners rather than competition. Physical strength is unimportant and therefore the art is open to both men and women of all ages and fitness levels.

Beginner Grappling I
Zumba Zumba is a fusion of Latin/International music and dance themes that are used to create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system. The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms to tone and sculpt the body. ‘Zumba’ is derived from a Columbian work meaning to ‘move fast and have fun’. Come and join the Latin Zumba party and put some spice in your workout!
Grappling has long since proved its value in combat sport arenas and should be considered a necessary aspect of selfdefense training. This class will start building the student’s grappling foundation by teaching a core of techniques drawn from both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling. The course material will include joint locks, chokes and control positions as well techniques for getting opponents to the ground and how to fall properly. We`ll also cover basic stretching and exercise routines to enhance the student’s ability to perform the techniques being taught, ensuring safe training. This class is best suited for those with little or no grappling experience, however, those with prior training looking for a review are more than welcome.

Having difficulty improving a stroke, overcoming a hurdle or finishing a swim level? Private and semi-private lessons are an excellent alternative to group lessons. Participants will work one-on-one with a certified swimming instructor who will create an individualized lesson plan and goals. NOTE: Semiprivate lessons are designed for 2-3 children of approximately the same level of swimming ability. Semi-private registrations CANNOT be done online. Please register in-person or call 613520-4480. Code
