RAVENS
2010 – 2011 Carleton University Ravens
through the years with the ravens The Ravens continued to improve with each year. 2009-2010 marked their most successful season since returning to the CIS, finishing with a record of 15-10-3 for 33 points and fourth place in the OUA East.
In the face of financial pressures, the university dropped the hockey program following the 1974 season. But a determined alumni group, led by former player Paul Correy, formulated a plan in 1988. A student team was organized to compete in the local Recreation Association senior league and under former Chicago Blackhawks coach Ted Bully, 120 players showed up for the first practice, including 25 goalies.
2009-10 Regular Season Statistics

Despite losing some athletes to graduation, head coach Marty Johnston is confident his recruits will add character to the Ravens line-up this year and will help fill the gaps.
This year, the Ravens squad has undergone a bit of a makeover, as some athletes graduated and signed pro contracts at the end of the 2009-2010 season. Carleton has added some recruits during the off- season, including Jeff Hayes, former captain of the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals and his teammate Tyler Taylor.
Rank (East) Team
RAVENS
There are some familiar faces returning. Captain Brad Good and forward Justin Caruana are both back for their fourth year, while OUA East second team allstar, Brandon MacLean, will suit up for his third season with the Ravens.
After eliminating the Queen’s University Gaels from the postseason with a 3-2 double overtime victory, Carleton would be eliminated by the McGill University Redmen in a 2-1 series in the OUA quarter-final round.
In an effort to bring varsity hockey back to Carleton, 12,000 students signed a petition and the Department of Athletics provided partial funding for the Ravens to become an official club team in 2000. Five years later, a new $13 million stateof-the-art double-pad rink threw open its doors.
CARLETON
Former assistant captain of OHL’s Brampton Battalion, Brad Albert, has also committed to the squad, as well as goalie Matt Dopud of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Rimouski Oceanic, Jordan Deagle of the Western Hockey League’s Red Deer Rebels and Linden Bahm of the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads.
After a 33-year absence from varsity hockey, the Ravens began a new era in October 2007, going 12-13-3 during the season and earning a playoff spot on the last day of the regular season.
The Ravens have come a long way since completing their first season of organized competition in 1948. They enjoyed their finest moments during the late sixties and early seventies when they won the Ontario Quebec Athletic Association league championship (1968-69) and finished first in the Ontario Universities Athletic Association in 1970-71.
“We have added a strong group of recruits that will give us depth at all positions,” he says. “Our leaders will define our work ethic and success this season. I’m optimistic that we will compete against the very best in our conference.”
