IFMSA President Candidature 2017-2018

Motivation Letter Dear IFMSA, This is my pledge to you, a pledge for equality within our Federation. When I joined DENEM in 2013 I had in my mind a concept of a federation that wasn’t exactly what I work with today. I thought IFMSA was unreachable and utopic because in my head it was a space not made for me, a misfit. And as a misfit I thought my ideas were not enough to blend into medicine, one of the most conservative categories worldwide. But over the years I have convinced myself that generation 2030 (which is us) is full of misfits like me but we tend to mask ourselves and hide from either reality or fear. Somehow misfits have remained unheard beyond their existence and attempts to become visible as well as target of various social determinants we always preach about in IFMSA spaces. So this is a pledge to use our differences in our favor and embrace tolerance within each other. It is in differences we find change and new ideas. I pledge for a political will for giving conditions in which NMOs can prosper. The motivation that drives IFMSA together and the sparkle in our eyes when we meet in every meeting, every training and every on line meeting. Being president to me is also being an advocate. Not only because it’s a leadership role but also because I think we can together find new ideas within our variances. I want to make IFMSA an empowering stage for women, a sea of comprehensive and reachable opportunities, a dream any medical student worldwide can achieve even belonging to any social minority and my efforts will always be aligned to these goals. To do so, we must toss all our barriers to the floor and look at each other sincerely. Let’s believe that we can change together. That we can be misfits and being so we are great and we can revolution the world. That the time is now and the place is here. That across the oceans we can reach higher. In the end we will look to each other again and smile, because we did it. We were different but even with these differences we call ourselves brothers and sisters. So IFMSA Would you like to take this pledge with me? Warmest Hugs from Brazil, Carlos
