COMPOSER NOTES I wrote Sereno in memoriam of Maestro Inocente Carreño, one week after his passing away. In a way, his music always takes me to a place where a sea of chords with added sounds and beautiful lyrical melodies tell a fascinating story. This happens particularly in Las Tres Carabelas (which I had the pleasure to perform as a singer) and Canción de Abril con Luna y con Tristeza. I want to achieve peace with this composition; rest from all that happens around and allow time to reflect. This is why I decided to explore the tintinnabuli technique created by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt and see how it worked within my own musical language. I found in a poem written by Venezuelan poet Lilia Boscán de Lombardi, published in her book Desde El Signo Que Me Nombra, a meditative air that lets you reflect upon the passing away of such a beloved person as Maestro Carreño, whom I did not have the honor to meet in person but who taught me so much through his music. I dedicate this piece to my Professor Franklin Pire, who taught me the discipline to understand the art of music composition. To him, and his daughter María José Pire.
