DANIEL BLAUFUKS, The breakfast table, 2006-2007, C-Print, 120 x 160 cm, Ed. 5
We may define Daniel Blaufuks as an artist capable of contradicting the norm, who expandes and deformes the landscape in order to allow different levels of reading that will in many cases elude his initial intentions. To a certain extent, almost all of Daniel Blaufuks´s works are in the manner of a polyphonic experiment, from arranged ideas; a montage of sequences in a cinematic style, independently of the fact that in many cases it does not valorise a narrative linearity, but, rather, a game of language in the sense of Wittengenstein. In Blaufuks´s work everything has to do with the evolution of the thought process, like a river capable of shaping its own course and ending at the right place. Everything is the product of an event about which we know nothing and in which it doesn´t matter who the protagonists are. Everything is true, and what is not, is pure imagination. Or, in any case, a series of notes that will be of use to him in another story in images, one of those stories capable of building itself. Blaufuks is interested in that suspended moment, that is his decisive moment, precisely the non-decision, the event resulting from the space between two virtual events, the moment of lack of communication in this universe of continuous communication, of saturation of apparently decisive instants, that do not allow the encountering of meaning, at every second, in a simple gesture. Thus, each photograph points out an option, a choice, a phrase, word or story. DAVID BARRO

Isabel Brison’s (Lisbon, Portugal, 1980) main activity consists in walking around town, studying the uses of public space and the relative importance of buildings in the urban fabric. She takes pictures of what she considers to be most interesting and reorganize them in photomontages, producing images of alternative places from bits of real ones. Some of these montages focus on architecture, some on landscape, urban sculpture or monumental public space. They can be divided into two main types: the symbolic – architecturally impossible clusters intended to portray specific cities or places – and what we may call the programmatic, in the sense of that which is conceivable and imbued with a certain purpose. In this line of work she attempts to use hotomontage as a tool for manipulating space in a projectual sense, not limited to the creation of fictions but focused instead on considering the unofficial use potential of certain places. These works are sometimes accompanied by texts that describe in raw and unadorned terms their process of creation and the intentions underlying it. In addition to this, she collaborates egularly with the visual artist Nuno Rodrigues de Sousa in the production of installation and video pieces proceeding from a concurrence of interests, namely in the representation and production of meaning brought about by real or imaginary transformations in architectural and urban space.
