SALOTTI METROPOLITANI - METROPOLITAN LIVING ROOMS
HOW THE IDEA WAS BORN??

The challenge of this project starts from the creation of a new way of thinking about the theme of living nowadays, where technologies create more and more isolation among people. The issue addressed starts precisely from this assumption, and from the request to create an environment where it is possible to enable relationships within public spaces of the city, try to socialize people with each other and make them participate to make a place concrete. In this project it will be possible to see the transition from an “abstract” project linked to the theme, up to the creation of an installation within the City of Milan, where the skills of socialization and participation of passers-by are brought into play.
HOW DO WE WANT TO DEVELOP IT?

- CONCEPT - FLOOR PLANS AND SECTIONS - THE WARDROBE - THE INSTALLATION
THE WARDROBE
The idea of this project is to develop a domestic “object” inside the city in a bigger scale. The “object” it will be a big wardrobe 10x5m, that will represent a filter room for the other living rooms, but also a filter of the domestic sphere, to connect the city to the house.
This object will be located near the entrance of the metropolitan stairs, and will become the real entrance to the metropolitan line but also the entrance of all the other underground urban living room.
The idea is that people can go through the Wardrobe and took an object, that can be used in the living room, like a pillow or a book.
LOCATION Monumento Pertini di Aldo Rossi, Via Croce Rossa, metropolitana M3 Montenapoleone.
THE INSTALLATION Starting from this abstract idea, we decided to create a real installation inside the city to test the possibility of the project linked to urban metropolitan living rooms.
The choice of place was taken in relation to the topic dealt with. The idea was born from the desire to find a place in the center of the city of Milan that could be transformed from a little-used place of the daily routine to “Urban Living Room”. The Pertini monument by Aldo Rossi came to our aid at the M3 Montenapoleone subway exit.
On 21 May 2019, in via Croce Rossa, we set up a wardrobe of smaller dimensions than the initial project, and we filled it with objects related to everyday life and living room life. In the same way, we set up the monument with some objects such as cushions, lamps, books and board games, to entice people and to attract attention. The aim was to make passersby participate in the realization of the “living room”, who had to turn to one of us, who were inside the wardrobe, and through a small window they came to pick up an object that reminded him of their living room. home, or their imaginary living room. Once they withdrew the object from our closet, they had to go and place it on Aldo Rossi’s staircase, and it was up to them to choose to use the space to read or play or simply observe passersby sitting comfortably in the middle of the City of Milan.
“Wardrobe” contruction process by assembling painted OSB panels.
Design of the graphic to be created on the “Wardrobe” elevations.
