MERGE PROJECT
The project is located in the inner city of Copenhagen, at Store Kongensgade 100, one of the main street used to coming from outside in the city, so for this reason is both air and traffic polluted. The project has to work with an existing building, an ex Police Station. The police station is a significant and rational building from 1970. The Building, 3200 m2 will be converted in a mix use residential block. The property is located in the municipality of Copenhagen. The closest neighbours are usually younger city dwellers with long higher education and high incomes who live in apartments under 115 m² in older apartment buildings.
So our idea was to “Merge” together single persons in different life-phases and different incomes, creating a shared living, with multiple generations under the same roof, encouraging a better use of the space and allowing individual privacy while offering communal spaces.

URBAN ANALYSIS
We started the project doing some urban analysis by asking ourself about the issue of the project, such as the future problem of the floods in case of cloudburst or rise of the seawater level. There may be a risk of flooding due to heavy rainfall and/or regular rainfall at Store Kongensgade 106, st. TV, 1264 Copenhagen K. The property is not in a low tide area, but surface water has difficulty seeping into the ground due to the degree of fortification which is high. We decided to show some analysis about where the rains water will be collected mostly in the city, creating problems, and we decided to show at the same time where the
metropolitan line of the city run, because they can began an added problem in case we want to proceed doing some tank for collecting rainwater, that can conflict with the Metropolitan Line in out area, because we are exactly on top of it. We also show what it will append in 40 year, with the level of the sea, also if with a location more than 3 meters above sea level, the address is not at immediate risk of flooding by storm surge. (Store Kongensgade 100, st. tv, 1264 Copenhagen K is located at an altitude of 3.8 meters above sea level.) But we think that today is something that the new architects have to know and work with it.
THE CONCEPT
We decided to explain the concept of our project by dividing it into three levels.
to explain this split we helped each others by taking into consideration the Parthenone, but in general the Greek Temples, because they also used this triple separation in Tympanum , Shaft and Basement, which in our case become the Crown of the building, that consist in a typology of Studio Apartment; the Elevation, hierarchized by the structure where we will have the Shared Typology of apartment, The Blocks Apartment; And the Basement where we will develop a public use, like coffe shop.
FLOOR PLAN
THE STUDIO APARTMENT
In the last two floor of the building the idea is to have a corresponding shape structure as in the ground floor, but different. While in the basement we will have some “voids” going down, in this case we will have some “mass” going up, creating some common space in the between, in order to follow the concept of all the project. This “mass” will be single studio apartment, so a typology more private then the Blocks Typology apartment. The common area that will be created will be roof garden or terrace.
THE BLOCKS APARTMENT
The idea for this three floor of apartment born from the idea to use less space possible floor distribuite the access of the various apartment, so the idea of having a common central corridor only in the middle floor. In this way it is possible to have almost all the apartment with double look outside in both side, and also to have more free design for the shape of the blocks. Like a Tetris the project propose 5 different kind of apartment merged together. with different typology for look to every necessity. This why the idea to leave 2 small blocks developed only in one floor, aimed to disable or old people. This block will be repeated 2 time in the same building, so in total we will have 10 apartment with this typology. This Tipology of apartment have the caracterise of co-husing, so could happend that due apartment can share the kitchen or the terrace.
BASEMENT AND GROUND FLOOR
The Basement is characterised by the creation of public voids, to create a mix use, from public to private ( for the resident ). The area reserved for the resident consist in common area where we can find the common laundry and bike storage and lockers, and is connected directly to the car garage. The space created by the Voids have a similar shape that remember the structure of the last floor of the building, in this way we can speck about a relationship between the basement anche the crowing of the building.
The Ground floor is also a result of the voids. From the ground floor you can have access to this space, that are build to connect the city and the building. In fact we can find function like coffe shop or “public Living Room” where people can stay and read a book or let children play.
