PERCEPTION

PERCEPTI O N This book was derived from a dream I had. I was in a hotel room and there were people all around, talking and handing me things; I couldn’t move. I was responding but no one would listen. At the end of the dream I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I realized that I was a mannequin. These chapters will be spoken from the persepctive of an inanimate object. The first, a mannequin, modeled after my dream. The second a sinking ship, inspired by a large glass structure I found near the Moscone Center in San Francisco. And the third, a bullet, an object I found at the Alameda Flea Market (Antique Faire). These are three objects that we probably don’t think about on a daily basis but in the right situation they can have a significant influence on our lives. From what we purchase to whether or not we live —these objects have the potential to have a huge impact on us. We just have to see it from their point of view.

FROZEN
The setting, a large department store in the middle of a big city at Christmas time. The crowd is growing with each passing day and the tension around is rising. There are people of all ages in the store. Meet Debra. A 26 year old, who’s dressed in the latest fashions. She is tall and thin and her hair is pulled back in a conservative manner. By all intents and purposes, she does not stand out in the crowd. In fact, she often goes overlooked by those around her.

Stone Sour // Through Glass I’m looking at you through the glass. Don’t know how much time has passed. Oh, god it feels like forever. But no one ever tells you. That forever feels like home. Sitting all alone inside your head. How do you feel? That is the question. But I forget you don’t expect an easy answer. When something like a soul becomes initialized. And folded up like paper dolls and little notes. You can’t expect a bit of hope. So while you’re outside looking in. Describing what you see. Remember what you’re staring at is me. ‘Cause I’m looking at you through the glass. Don’t know how much time has passed. All I know is that it feels like forever. And no one ever tells you that forever feels like home. Sitting all alone inside your head. How much is real? So much to question. An epidemic of the mannequins. Contaminating everything. With thought came from the heart. It never did right from the start. Just listen to the noises. (Null and void instead of voices.) Before you tell yourself. It’s just a different scene. Remember it’s just different from what you’ve seen. I’m looking at you through the glass. Don’t know how much time has passed. And all I know is that it feels like forever. And no one ever tells you that forever feels like home. Sitting all alone inside your head. And it’s the stars. The stars. That shine for you. And it’s the stars. The stars. That lie to you, yeah-ah. I’m looking at you through the glass. Don’t know how much time has passed. Oh, god it feels like forever. But no one ever tells you that forever feels like home. Sitting all alone inside your head. And it’s the stars. The stars. That shine for you. And it’s the stars. The stars. That lie to you, yeah yeah.

BROKEN
The setting, the middle of the ocean. A storm is brewing on the horizon and darkness is approaching. Rays of sunlight try to peer through but are overtaken by the clouds and rain. The darkness wins. A lone ship. Trying to conquer the raging waters. She is an unsuspecting contender against these waves. The current is strong and fierce. Her strength and tenacity will have to be enough.

I AM BEING PULLED IN EVERY DIRECTION. GETTING BEATEN DOWN WITH NO DEFENSE.

Mat Kearney // Ships in the Night Like ships in the night. You keep passing me by. We’re just wasting time. Trying to prove who’s right. And if it all goes crashing into the sea. If it’s just you and me. Trying to find the light. Like ships in the night letting cannon balls fly. Say what you mean and it turns to a fight. Fist fly from my mouth as it turns south. You’re down the driveway. I’m on the couch. Chasing your dreams since the violent 5th grade. Trying to believe in your silent own way. Cause we’ll be ok—I’m not going away. Like you watched at fourteen as it went down the drain. And pops stayed the same and your moms moved away. How many of our parents seem to make it anyway. We’re just fumbling through the grey. Trying find a heart that’s not walking away. Turn the lights down low. Walk these halls alone. We can feel so far from so close. Like ships in the night. You keep passing me by. We’re just wasting time. Trying to prove who’s right. And if it all goes crashing into the sea. If it’s just you and me trying to find the light. Like ships in the night. You’re passing me by. Like ships in the night. And I’m at the airport waiting on a second plane. Had to pack and you had cramps and I was late. Headed to a red carpet they won’t know my name. Riding in silence all that we wanna say. About to board when you call on the phone. You say “I’m sorry. I’ll be waiting at home”. Feels like we’re burning this out on our own. Trying to find a way down the road we don’t know. Turn the lights down low. Walk these halls alone. We can feel so far from so close. Like ships in the night. You keep passing me by. We’re just wasting time. Trying to prove who’s right. And if it all goes crashing into the sea. If it’s just you and me. Trying to find the light. Like ships in the night. You’re passing me by. Like ships in the night. And I’m gonna find my way. Back to your side. And I’m gonna find my way. Back to your side.

ALONE
The setting, a coffee table in a small house in America. A family lives here. Everyone goes about their daily business paying no attention to what lies on the table. A single bullet. There is no gun in sight but the bullet rests on a black leather notebook. It rolls slightly with each nudge of the table as the family passes by. But is essentially forgotten and left only to it’s thoughts.

David Guetta Featuring Sia // Titanium You shouted out. But I can’t hear a word you say. I’m talking loud not saying much. I’m criticized but all your bullets ricochet. Shoot me down, but I get up. I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose. Fire away, fire away. Ricochet, you take your aim. Fire away, fire away. You shoot me down but I won’t fall. I am titanium. You shoot me down but I won’t fall. I am titanium. Cut me down. But it’s you who’ll have further to fall. Ghost town and haunted love. Raise your voice, sticks and stones may break my bones. I’m talking loud, not saying much. I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose. Fire away, fire away. Ricochet, you take your aim. Fire away, fire away. You shoot me down but I won’t fall. I am titanium. You shoot me down but I won’t fall. I am titanium.
