PRAIRIE MANAGEMENT FOR NATIVE HABITATS Did you know that in partnership with the Indiana Wildlife Federation, we are the first park system in the state of Indiana to be certified as wildlife and habitat-friendly? Our team works hard throughout the year to manage our prairies using best practices. If you see us at the park mowing, we are removing dormant vegetation from last season’s growth cycle to allow the upcoming season’s cycle of perennials to flourish! VISIT CARMELCLAYPARKS.COM/catagory/nature-sustainability

Our programs wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering to help with our programming, visit carmelclayparks.com/volunteer.

WORLD HABITAT DAY

More than 30 years ago, the United Nations declared the first Monday of October as World Habitat Day! The purpose of World Habitat Day is to reflect on and promote the idea that everyone has a right to shelter. It is intended to remind the world that we all have the power and responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns. Habitat for plants and animals is a very important aspect of our ecosystem. Removing non-native plant species and replacing them with native species is a way to provide essential food and shelter for the wildlife that call our parks home. On World Habitat Day we invite you to help us plant trees in our Hinshaw Preserve. This 10-acre woodland is adjacent to the Monon Trail and north of the 96th Street Trailhead. Participants under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Registration is required at carmelclayparks.com/volunteer.

PROJECT WINGSPAN NATIVE SEED COLLECTION NEW!

Support our pollinators by participating in Project Wingspan! Throughout the fall we need your help to collect and sort native pollinator seed. Project Wingspan (PW) is a two-year project supported by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Federation (NFWF) to the non-profit, the Pollinator Partnership, which is leading a coalition of partners in an effort to enhance land across the Midwest to support our imperiled pollinators. All seed that is collected will be shipped to the main nursery with Pollinator Partnership where it will be processed (cleaned and sorted) and distributed to predetermined conservation areas specifically for monarchs and rusty patched bumble bee habitat. PICKLEBALL LADDER LEAGUE

The Co-Ed Pickleball Ladder League format is designed to create new matchups each week and have players play with players of similar skill levels. Weekly rankings are based on performance. Players will move up or down the ladder based on wins/losses (not points scored). Each week, players will start in groups of four in the order of ladder ranking. After each game to 11, the winning partnership will move up the ladder and the losing partnership will move down. Partners swap each game. There is a maximum of three wins each league night. After each team’s three games have been played, open play is allowed for the remainder of the time slot when courts are available. Top two players will get free enrollment to the next season of the league. Ages: 18+ years • Instructor: CCPR Staff ACTIVITY# DATES

ESE CARE FOR CCS LATE START SCHEDULE

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

The Extended School Enrichment program is characterized by sensitivity and respect for all individuals. ESE promotes positive student interaction, self-control, respect for others, and personal responsibility. Expectations and consequences permit students an opportunity to eliminate inappropriate behavior. ESE Behavior Guidelines are enforced: • By all staff members at all times. • In substantial part by adult role modeling. • Using techniques that promote the growth of positive self-esteem. • As close to the source as is possible. • By holding students accountable for their actions. • By keeping parents informed. • By limiting group discipline to a maximum of one minute. • Through implementation of the Behavior Consequence Rubric.

Beginning in the 2020 – 2021 school year, CCS will delay the school start time for elementary school students approximately twice a month. On these days, ESE will provide free extended care to enrolled participants as well as non-enrolled students. Please visit our webiste for more information as well as enrollment instructions.

Payments may not be transferred or refunded after the final program day of the respective program month (i.e. payments made for the month of August 2019, will not be transferred or refunded after August 31, 2019.). All refunds are subject to a $10 service charge for cancellation per participant.

SCHOOL’S OUT REFUND POLICY

Cancellations for a camp week/day must be requested a minimum of two weeks from the start date to receive a full refund, less a $10 service charge for cancellation per camp week/day per camper.

PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGN-IN & SIGN-OUT

Parents/guardians are free to drop-off and pick-up their child at any point during ESE. Each parent/guardian is responsible for walking their child into ESE Before-School; students are not to be dropped off at the school site without accompaniment by a parent/ guardian. Students are only released to individuals listed as “authorized pick-ups” who must be at least 16 years of age and must be listed within the participant’s online account. All ESE staff is required to check identification of authorized individuals. The sign-in/out table will be clearly displayed and located in an optimal place for parent/guardian accessibility. Late fees will be assessed to any pickups after 6:00 p.m.; the charge is $1 for every minute late per child (e.g. a child picked up at 6:04 p.m. equals a late fee charge of $4).

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

ESE staff and students will practice live emergency drills throughout the school year simulating various emergencies to ensure proper preparation in the case of an actual crisis during the ESE program.

RECREATION PROGRAMS PROGRAM REFUND POLICY (excludes ESE)

If a class is cancelled by Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation, a full refund or a make-up class will be given. For any other reason, a Refund Request may be filled out and submitted fourteen days prior to the program start date. All refunds are subject to the approval of the Monon Community Center Director and are subject to State Board of Accounts claim procedures. If approval is granted, a full refund (less a $10 service charge) will be given. Refunds are issued by check and may take up to 3-4 weeks to process.
