Musical Theatre Saturdays

Continuing this long-running and exciting tradition, this program (unique to the city) bumps everything up a notch and gives students the opportunity to experience the creation of an original script while working up several numbers from the musical theatre canon. Emphasis is on collaboration and discipline as these 10 sessions of fun and hard work culminate in a special presentation on the Tarkington Theatre stage! Curriculum includes study in Acting (character development, techniques for interpreting a song, etc.), Music (vocal performance technique, mechanics of breathing, how to read a score, music vocabulary, etc.), and Dance (terminology, musical theatre dance styles – jazz, ballet, tap, modern, how to prepare for performance, etc.). In addition to performance, students will learn some history of the American musical theatre and how this popular art form has changed and developed over several decades.

Winter

Grades 1-3, 4-5 • Min/max: 6/10 Location: Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre Session DATE

This dynamic, advanced workshop will take things to the next level by focusing on two things: further exposing students to the various styles of music, dance, and acting that are employed in the musical theatre and preparing students to audition and perform in a musical. Additionally, smaller class sizes allow for more individualized coaching.

Fall

This introductory acting class is designed for the beginning student. Incorporating improvisation, terminology and some basic script analysis, students will start to develop their voice, body and mind as they pursue goals, create characters and scenes, and work as an ensemble.
