Adaptive programs are geared toward individuals with disabilities. We believe that everyone should participate in leisure oppportunities that allow for performance at their highest level, and we encourage participation of all ages and abilities.
All of our programs are inclusive. If you or your family member would like to participate in any program or use our facility, we can make modifications to meet your needs. Requests for Modification must be made at least one month before participation. Click here for a Request for Modification form or pick one up in person at the Monon Community Center.
Youth
DRAWING, PAINTING, & SKETCHING
Jump into our creative programs with local artist Zach Lowe and watch yourself turn into an artist. You will find yourself learning how to create the perfect piece of artwork while working with a wide variety of different mediums and materials. Each program will offer different techniques and concepts while making sure you leave with a unique finished product. Life is a canvas and all it is missing is your creative touch! All needed materials will be provided.

ACT IT OUT! - PUPPET PARTY
There is no party like a puppet party! Build your own puppet then bring them to life in an original play made by you and your friends! No acting experience is necessary. This class is led by a Drama Therapist.

ALL-STAR ATHLETES
Team up with us as your athlete gets the chance to try a variety of different sports including soccer, volleyball, basketball, and more! This class will focus on cultivating teamwork skills while your child develops as an athlete. Ratio is one staff per two athletes.

BROADWAY JAZZ DANCE
Strengthen your musicality and practice coordination while dancing to Broadway musical hits! During this class, we will work on stretching, learn how to isolate our movements, strengthen our core, and practice “jazz walks”. Each class will culminate in performing a short combination from a Broadway musical. This class may be taken seated.

Enhance your workout routine and increase your core strength through ballet. Learn basic ballet barre exercises. This class is geared toward all levels and will help you achieve your personal goals! No ballet shoes are needed.

Destination Worldwide
Let’s explore other countries around the world! In this class participants will get the chance to experience aspects of life in foreign countries by learning their customs, languages, landmarks, and maybe even sample some native dishes! EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND YOU: MASKS & MONOLOGUES
Making room for the authentic self to shine needs less judgment and more compassion. In this series participants will explore with a Drama Therapist the inner critic and how it drives our movement through the world. Participants will be invited to create masks representing that part of themselves. Through monologue development exercises we will gain awareness of the inner critic, expanding the distance between it and the self. No theatre experience necessary, this is not performance driven, though participants are encouraged to share their work with the group. We hope you feel seen and heard here! No class on 10/12.

MUSCLE-UP
Ready to build strength, increase flexibility and tone your muscles? This class is an introduction to the different cardio and strength machines/equipment in the Monon Community Center’s Fitness Center. If you have participated in Muscle-Up before, you can start at an advanced level. Sign up for one session or both!

NEURO-EXERCISES
Are you ready for some fun and challenging exercises? Do you want to improve your concentration and coordination skills? In this class you will be challenged to exercise both the left and the right side of your brain through fun challenges and interactive activities.

YOGA
Take time to relax and reflect with some gentle yoga. In this introductory class, you will learn to increase your strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination in a calming environment. We will focus on basic yoga poses and breathing techniques to improve your practice. No class on 11/22.

Cycling
Le’s go for a ride! Get your heart rate pumping as we ride our indoor stationary bikes and jam to our favorite tunes. This class combines exercise and fun, so be ready to have a whole lot of both!

Flag Football
Touchdown! Fall is the perfect time to learn how to play football! Learn the basic skills including running, catching, throwing, and punting. We will work as a team to increase stamina, dedication, and determination.
Outdoor Fitness
Get some exercise while enjoying the beautiful weather on the scenic Central Park trails! This outdoor fitness class is the perfect way to meet new people and get out in nature. We will lead you through a warm up, brisk walk, strength exercises along the way, and a cool down stretch at the end. Meet us in the East Building Lobby.

Fitness Swimming
Want to improve those swimming skills? Come join Fitness Swimming to increase your endurance, improve your strokes and work on your overall health while swimming with friends! We require that participants are able to swim one length of the lap pool prior to signing up for this class. Ratio is one instructor per four swimmers.

Cardio Drumming
Grab your drumsticks and join us for a class that’s part exercise, part jam fest! In this class we will be drumming while exercising to achieve an incredible cardio workout! Cardio Drumming will help improve balance, posture, hand-eye coordination, and muscular conditioning. Don’t worry, drumsticks will be provided by us!

Water Aerobics
In this low-impact aquatic class, you will increase your overall cardio conditioning, strength and flexibility.

Guided Meditation
Join us as we discuss the many emotions that shape our lives such as anger, stress, love, forgiveness, and gratitude. We will guide you on a journey to help face and overcome your negative emotions, as we foster and embrace your positive emotions. BARRIER-FREE THEATRE (FIRST HALF)
Create a brand-new, original play! Barrier-Free Theatre welcomes people with and without disabilities to join our ensemble for the 2023-2024 season. Together we will brainstorm characters and stories, improvise scenes, and hone our acting skills. From our improvisations, an original play will be written, rehearsed, and performed in March 2024. All the while, we will build self-confidence, foster creativity, and practice social and emotional skills. Come experience personal growth in this drama therapy-based program. No prior theatre experience necessary! Must enroll for Fall and Winter/ Spring seasons for a total of $130. No class on 11/23. Circuit Training

If trick-or-treat has ever been difficult for you, we have a sensory friendly solution! Join us for our Sensory Friendly Trickor-Treat Trail. Put on your favorite costume and don’t forget your bag for candy! Friendly volunteers will be dressed-up in non-frightening masks or costumes along our fully accessible River Heritage Park trails. Enjoy the festive fall experience at your own pace. Only trick or treaters need to be registered, but pre-registration is required.

Education Series
Join us for this new educational series presented by Gordon Homes to learn more about how government benefits, guardianship and alternatives, ABLE accounts, and Special Needs Trusts play a role in planning for the future for your child or family members with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Government Benefits and Employment will be reviewed, along with how a parent’s retirement decisions can impact an adult with IDD.
