Extended School Enrichment
EXTENDED SCHOOL ENRICHMENT Extended School Enrichment (ESE) is founded on the belief that each and every student is capable of being successful. We are committed to setting high expectations and assuring the development of a strong foundation in basic life skills.
ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
The Extended School Enrichment program is open to all children enrolled in grades K-6 at each of the Carmel Clay Elementary Schools.
The Extended School Enrichment program is characterized by sensitivity and respect for all individuals. ESE promotes positive student interaction, self-control, respect for others and personal responsibility. Expectations and consequences permit students an opportunity to eliminate inappropriate behavior. ESE Behavior Guidelines are enforced: • By all staff members at all times • In substantial part by adult role modeling • Using techniques that promote the growth of positive self-esteem • As close to the source as is possible • By holding students accountable for their actions • By keeping parents informed • By limiting group discipline to a maximum of one minute • Through implementation of the Behavior Consequence Rubric
PROGRAM COMPONENTS & LAYOUT Each of the eleven elementary school sites will have the same core components of ESE, with each school customized to serve the best interests of the students and parents/guardians. The following is an example of a daily ESE program day: Before-School 7:00-7:15 a.m. Parent/guardian sign-in and socialization 7:15-7:30 a.m. Breakfast 7:30-8:00 a.m. Enrichment Clubs 8:00-8:05 a.m. Student sign-out and transition to school day After-School 2:35-2:45 p.m. Student Sign-In 2:45-3:15 p.m. Group A - Snack; Group B - Recess 3:15-3:45 p.m. Group B - Snack; Group A - Recess 3:45-4:30 p.m. Academic Assistance 4:30-5:30 p.m. Enrichment Clubs 5:30-6:00 p.m. Daily Wrap-Up

Build a Snowman or Snowlady
This classic activity is a must every winter! Pack a bag with two black coals, a carrot nose, pebbles, and an old scarf and hat. Once you get to the park, start your snowman scavenger hunt! You’ll need two sticks for arms, small pebbles for the eyes and mouth, and plenty of snow. Now you’re ready to build your snowman!
Go Sledding Get your family and friends together for an afternoon on the “slopes!” Try the large hill, also known as Jill’s Hill, at West Park. And of course, warm up afterward with some hot chocolate.
Take a Winter Walk Bundle up and enjoy the outdoors on a winter hike. Experience nature in a whole new way under the cover of snow. Keep an eye out for animals, plants, and trees. Maybe even plan a scavenger hunt to find pine cones, leaves, and signs of wildlife!
When the snow starts to fall, our parks are transformed into a glistening winter wonderland! Plan a trip to a park this season with family and friends. When you arrive you’ll step into a world of snowmen, sleds, and snowflakes. Here are a few ideas for how you can enjoy the wintery wonderland! 317.848.7275 • InTrac: 711

Super. Every Day! Disability Awareness Month is a full month of celebration for us as we believe that all community members are unique, important, and valuable. We will be celebrating everyone’s strengths, uniqueness, abilities, and powers. During the Fall of 2017, our inclusive theatre ensemble started the Barrier-Free Theatre process. Barrier-Free Theatre was developed by Sally Bailey and supports actors with disabilities in creating their own theatre production. Our actors decided on the theme of superheroes because we believe everyone has special powers that support them in overcoming problems. Our troupe of actors believe that they are super every day. Thus, the theme of our show was born! This March we will be exploring abilities through the superhero lens. Our participants will be writing the show, designing our set, creating costumes, and performing in an original production. Join us for this unique and special performance on March 24 at 6pm or March 25 at 1pm at the Monon Community Center. You can purchase your tickets beginning January 1 at any desk for only $5. Please join us this March to help increase awareness and create acceptance for all people.
