even years in business and into our sixth year in print, seems like yesterday we were putting out the first issue. Nothing happens around here without the Chrome Crew, so any success we’ve enjoyed is due to great people on our team. Carolina Chrome is the ONLY South Carolina magazine dedicated to our state and its riders. It will always be FREE thanks to the local SC businesses. Please support these folks and thank them when you pick up your copy each month. Chrome will forever feature LOCAL SC BIKERS on our cover and its not for sale. How do we choose...its easy; if you ride a motorcycle in SC, any motorcycle because to us its all the same wind...then you can be on the cover of CHROME! Same for the centerfolds, we feature real men and women on bikes they own and ride. Our recycle program...on the rare occasion we have any issues left over we ship them directly to the deployed troops from South Carolina. THANK YOU our readers for your continued support, if there is something you would like to see printed, contact us. This is YOUR magazine!

12th Annual VET’S CHRISTMAS CHARITY RIDE On a beautiful warm Sunday, December 9th, Tommy & I saddled-up for my favorite ride of the year. This year I wanted to be early so we could get a good spot in line, even early we barely made it into the main lot. So my question to Bulldog & the Combat Vets... what time did you guys show up to get a front row spot?!?! Thousands of motorcycles lined up at Carolina Honda off I-20 in Columbia, SC for this very worthy cause, bringing Christmas to Veterans. Some say the final total was 5,000 bikes in attendance with double riders on most, I say more!! I’ve made every one since moving to Columbia and every year I’m simply amazed at the organization put into this event. Jim Wertman, the manager at Carolina Honda, starts with meetings in the fall. Along with Gene of American H&A, David of Columbia Flag, Tim from Harley Haven, Sysco Foods, all the media outlets, Veterans organizations, Dorn VA reps, the Boy Scouts of American, the Goldwing & Honda Riders Club, Allsouth FCU, just too many folks to name working tirelessly to make an event of this magnitude come together WHY........ to bring Christmas to our Veterans. Donations of clothing, toiletries, soft candy, etc. along with cash were collected. A heartfelt thank you to Jim, his staff, and every one who donated their time and resources. And to each biker in attendance, YOU ROCK!!! This is an event not to miss so mark your calendars for 2013 and stay tuned to CHROME for ride details. I hope to see you there, RubyRed

The Cost of A Great Man A Tribute to Dewitt Peake What is the cost of a beer, mixed drink, or a of shot of your favorite liquor? M o s t would say ‘a couple dollars’. On January 11, 2013 at 4:30am, that cost was shown in the most extreme way. The decision was made by one man to combine alcohol and a deadly weapon. No not a knife or a gun, but a car, and the cost of those drinks immediately went from a couple dollars to the most extreme. Dewitt Peake left his home for work on his motorcycle as he did most mornings. With his leathers and his helmet on he pulled out of his driveway not knowing he would not reach his destination. In less than 4 minutes, the deadly weapon found its target and killed Dewitt instantly. How do you measure

the worth of a man? Is there a formula or a measuring stick or is it set by his deeds in life. Well this is what made Dewitt Peake a great man. He was a devoted husband of 36 years, the proud father of 3 children, and the grandfather of 5 grandchildren. You say, so everyone has family, but he was so much more than that. He volunteered at Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department for the last 35 years, responding to hundreds of calls every year with most of them being emergency medical calls. He spent all of his life dedicated to the service of the Lord at Pine Grove Baptist Church, where no matter what happened “Call Dewitt, he will know what to do” was often heard. He worked at a local company for 30 years and was respected by all those who knew him. He served more than 20 years at the Kershaw County Recreation Department, coaching team after team, in sport after sport. And more than that, in my 40 years of knowing him, serving with him in the fire service, and coaching beside and against him, he always had that infectious smile and kind word. A smile that no matter how bad your day was, you would see him and you would just have to smile back. So I ask you again, what is the cost of a beer, mixed drink, or a shot of liquor? I say they cost was the life of a great man, and with all likelihood www.CarolinaChromeMagazine.com

another man his freedom. It cost a wife her husband, 3 daughters and 2 sons a father, 3 grandchildren a grandfather, a church a devoted member and servant, and a community a helping hand, devoted responder, and a respectable role model and coach. What a great cost for a man to have too much alcohol and decide to drive a car. What a great Cost!

KID ROCK & H-D LAUNCH COLLABORATION DURING 110TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR In its most thrilling and globally epic anniversary celebration to date, H-D announces an exclusive partnership with legendary musician and ‘American Badass’ Kid Rock, including a Saturday night performance for the company’s 110th Anniversary celebration in Milwaukee over Labor Day weekend. The partnership brings together two legendary American rebels and names Harley-Davidson as a title sponsor of Kid Rock’s Rebel Soul tour, which kicks off Feb.

2, 2013, in Kansas City. Harley plans to offer fans unique experiences at each of the 60 planned stops during the Rebel Soul tour. The final stop is Aug. 31, 2013, when Kid Rock rolls into Milwaukee, to party with thousands of his fellow riders. Kid Rock will play a ticketed show at the Marcus Amphitheater. Kid Rock is one of three headliners Harley plans to announce for the 110th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee. GET WELL SOON Wishing Kidd & Kat of our Spartanburg/Greenville Chrome Crew a speedy recovery. They were involved in an accident late January, t-boned by another bike. Both have been released from the hospital and recovering at home. Best wished also to the other motorcyclist involved. The First Ride By: Ralph Bell Everyone loves to ride and I am sure many of you remember the first time you got to ride as a kid. Most likely you where the passenger and once the bike took off so did your passion for riding. Fast forward as you sit and read this; think about what would have happened if you never could have had that first ride! Last year a concerned mother wanted to make sure her ex husband could not pick up her or should I say their seven year old son on a motorcycle. So she got ahold of her legislator and he introduced a bill to make it illegal to take a child under seven on a motorcycle. ABATE stood strong and attended a subcommittee meeting to let them know we not only oppose www.CarolinaChromeMagazine.com

this legislation but would really rather have them settle their marriage disputes in divorce court. Dennis Wellborn who is the ABATE State Legislative coordinator spoke with the legislator and thought things had been worked out. Well not so fast and as all things political he introduced it again this year. Luckily with a great turnout at the state house on January 8th hundreds of bikers told our side of the story. This doesn’t mean this legislation is dead but it does mean it’s not going to turn into law right now. Of course this is a two year session so there is no guarantee. So I will tell you we will continue to fight for your motorcycle rights and if you ever want to help just become a member of one of the largest motorcycle rights organizations. We can use all the help we can get. Ride free I do,Ralph Bell ABATE State Coordinator Without your membership we are nothing so please go to WWW. 864-862-6740 Ft. Inn SC A brief history of tattooing There are archaeological records of tattoos dating back to 2000BC, on Egyptian mummies. And believe it or not, females in the past were more inked up than men. In some cultures, young girls were marked on their faces before marriage. In other cultures, tattoos were performed to prove courage. People young and old were “marked for many different reasons. In 1875, S.F. O’Reilly invented the electrically operated tattoo machine. This improved technique and increased speed. The first machines were rotary, and then electromagnetic reciprocating machine, which are both still used today. And in 1904, the shader machine was invented by Charlie Wagner.

US sailors frequently visited Oriental seaports for their artwork, and went home with dragon, ships, anchors, or other maritime tattoos. Throughout time, different cultures and religions have embraced and shunned tattooing. But the artwork has become more detailed and personalized through the years. Both men and women, young and old, can all enjoy adorning themselves with symbols, pictures or words that tell a story. Some stories happy, some stories sad, but most have meaning. Ask someone with multiple tattoos, where and when they got each of their tattoos, and most of them remember the time, place, who was with them, and what kind of mood they were in for each tattoo. A story of their life through art.

ADVENTURES WORKING WITH PETS By: Marli, Santee Chrome Crew

I don’t get paid to ride my motorcycle, so like most folks, I also have a day job, gotta keep gas in the scoot. After chatting with RubyRed one afternoon and sharing a little about my work (w/Columbia Animal Shelter), she asked if I would put together a few quick tips, facts, etc. for each issue about the world of animal care and control and caring for our pets. So, here we go..#15

Though I have worked in the field of animal care and control for nearly 19 years, I still have plenty of moments when I just stop and think, “wow, and I thought I had seen it all”. Some of those moments have invoked sadness, anger, awe, amazement and hysterical laughter, just to name a few. Rarely is any given day boring. As we start this new year of 2013, I feel certain there are plenty of “who would have thought”, moments in store for the coming year. As I write this though, it is in the final weeks of 2012 and I found myself looking back and thought I would share some past adventures. There are far too many to share in one article, but here are a handful that come to mind. One that always brings a smile to my face is a motorcycle loving dog and her owner. It was an event at a park with a variety of pet friendly events happing all day and it was time to see pet tricks. There were many great tricks, but the winner was a Schnauzer. As we watched, the owner pulled up on stage on her Harley, shut it down and walked a few feet away. We quietly waited wondering where the pet was. The owner yelled out “Molly Hatchet, lock and load!” With that the small Schnauzer charged across the stage, launched herself onto the motorcycle and took her seat. Mom loaded up and the two drove off the stage. Awesome. When working in the field, you never know what you might

encounter. Within the first few days of joining the animal care and control team a scared dog nearly bit through my ear. Ouch. Once I caught a large and not too friendly Rottweiler only to realize I could not physically lift it onto the truck without likely being bitten. A citizen brought a coffee table out of her garage and created a step-up so the dog could walk in on its own. I was grateful to say the least. On another occasion I was helping catch some feral cats in an elderly lady’s yard. While doing so one of the other cats decided to try and attack me from behind. I had to appreciate the little cat’s spunk and knew if I turned my back, I was toast. The elderly lady had to protect me with a rake. This is definitely a job that you learn to laugh at yourself and the moment a lot. One day a call came in about two, large aggressive dogs. Four of us (safety in numbers and remember, you don’t have to run faster than the animal coming after you, just faster than one of the people you are with – just kidding) had to go in the back yard to try and catch them. As we worked them into a corner, one made a break for it in my direction (my eyes went wide). Fortunately the dog just wanted to get past. Some how in a split second I managed to catch it with my catchpole. Only, I’m not a big person and this dog was about 60lbs and sprinting. All I could do was hang on for the ride and run as fast as I could behind the dog until I could slow her down. The impact actually broke the locking mechanism of my catch-pole making it even more awkward to hang with both hands and run. Another animal control officer while finishing up one call got flagged down by an elderly lady saying she had an emergency in her back yard. He rushed around the house with her to www.CarolinaChromeMagazine.com

Marli’s

pet tips

find that she wanted him to save six toads from her pool. He did, and we all had a good laugh about it later. Those were some happy toads though. It’s not only interesting in the field, but also daily at the shelter. We’ve had all kinds of animals come through our doors. Birds, fish, sugar gliders, lizards of many types, wildlife, ferrets, rodents and snakes and many other critters. There nothing like an upset, twelve foot python, with a gaping mouth about to lunge at you to make you back up pretty darn fast. Usually everyone watching has a good laugh. The most bizarre thing I think I’ve seen come through the shelter was a tarantula spider. It really was cool and a little creepy because well…it’s a giant spider. I like spiders just fine though, so I was pretty impressed. We did have a few folks that refused to go in the same room with it. We would joke and mention the spider escaped (even though it hadn’t) just to see them go pale. All fun and game you know. Just this past November after two months of surgery and rehab, we, with the help of the community, raised the funds to treat and then fly two dogs back to Washington State after they and their family were involved in a car accident while in Columbia seeing their son graduate from Fort Jackson. The family did not have to means to do all of this on their own. It was a great feeling to take what started out to be a tragic moment in all of their lives and turn it into a happy ending. These tales could on and on. There are just so many. Pets can create so many adventures in our lives, so take a moment to enjoy and appreciated them. And may 2013 be one to remember. Places of Worship

Jesus caught his fish, then he cleaned them. Well Well Well, How bout that folks we have made it thru another year all though it’s been some what a rough one we made it thank the Lord. We have lost some Brothers and Sisters this past year,Lost some good friends and made some great ones as well.So that’s kinda where I want to go with this ,ya know when ya meet that new Brother or Sister and ya kinda evaluate them through ya own little mind, and ya realize WOW what a really nice and honest person. Then ya start to get really close to these folks,Now people check this out, The Bible says in Proverbs 18:24 “A man that has friends must shew himself friendly, And their is a friend that sticketh closer than a Brother”.Now I know that in the Biker world it’s all about the Brotherhood,Hey and so am I, But we all know that for whatever reason things happen and we sometimes have to part ways. Here is someone that the Bible says will stick closer than a Brother, now that’s close folks. The Bible also says in Hebrews 13:5 “Let your conversation be without covetousness;and be content with such things that ye have:for He hath said I will never leave thee nor forsake thee” Now here is a Brotherhood that will absolutely never be broken no matter what. Now as the New Year comes and new things will no doubt come upon us, What plans do ya have (No not a New Years resolution or Valentines date) what do ya plan to different in the future, how and what will ya do with ya life this year. Now we all heard that the world was suppose to end on 12/21/12 and we also know it was a bunch of lies and junk,But what if it would have are ya ready, do you know where your home in eternity will be. Man look lets face the music here if ya like me ya ain’t getting no younger OK.Folks this eternity thing is not a joke it”s as real as it gets, are ya ready do ya know that if something happened Heaven would be your home.So ya probally done sit down and marked ya calendar all up for things ya gonna do this summer, rides you’re gonna take and places you’re gonna go hey and

that’s awesome man plans are good. That’s what I am asking here what are ya plans do ya know where ya are headed,Yes you may have a fantastic life and I pray you do, but don’t ya know there is a change that can make it even better. In The Wind With Christ, Folks look at the things Rev. Cotton Pate going on around us, the Chrome Crew ending times are near very near. Don’t be one [803] 475-9165 that is trying to figure [803] 246-0554 out what ya gonna do in ya life, ya life has a purpose and it is to serve and worship Jesus Christ, to live as God intended you to live. Check this out the Bible says in Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. Now that pretty much sums it up folks, you were created in the image of God,so what kinda reflection of God are ya putting out there? Whats ya plans for the 2013 folks, want ya let God make ya plans for ya help ya with things that ya got going on. Look if ya life seems to be in a mess then what can it hurt to give God a try, you’ve tried everything the world had to offer try something new this year. Going in circles gets old folks, sure ya don’t want to be left behind when this old world does end. Change ya plans this year people ya will be glad ya did. Things are only getting worse in this ole world, think of this “If you are not a born again child of God this is the best you will ever have it,But if you are a born again child of God this is the worst that you will ever see. Well till next time be safe and remember that there is one that will forever ride with ya Jesus Christ

ROLLING THUNDER

by Mike Kirby RT 4SC

The weather was perfect yet there was Thunder all around Andersonville and Americus, Georgia as numerous chapters of Rolling Thunder rumbled into town for the 2012 Ride Home. The Ride Home is a special weekend honoring all former prisoners of war and to remember those still missing in action and their families. There were numerous events all weekend long that gave everybody the chance to see old friends and make new ones. The high point of the weekend was the Honor Dinner and Flame of Freedom Ceremony. Various Rolling Thunder Chapters raise money to pay for transportation, lodging, meals and the event itself for the POWs/MIAs and their families to attend. If you would like more information on The Ride Home or Rolling Thunder go to: http://theridehome.com/ http://rollingthunder1.com/index.html Our Mission: The major function of Rolling Thunder®, Inc. is to publicize the POW-MIA issue: To educate the public that many American Prisoners of War were left behind after all previous wars and to help correct the past and to protect future Veterans from being left behind should they become Prisoners of War-Missing In Action. We are also committed to helping American Veterans from all wars. Rolling Thunder, Inc. is a non-profit organization and everyone donates his or her time because they believe in the POW/MIA Issue. JANUARY 2013

Rollin Wit Da Don Happy New Year!

It’s time to bring in 2013 the right way. One thing we never think about is all the new rules and regulations for riding in SC.

I hope that everyone had a safe and wonderful Christmas holiday. There were many great Toy Runs in December so my hats off to everyone who rode for a good cause. I actually participated in several Toy Runs. It started with the Annual Veteran’s Ride to the VA Hospital, Gene Hutto’s Annual Toy Run and ended with the Philadelphia Travelers M/C Toy Run. I really enjoyed the great rides that were organized last year. My helmet goes off to all those who planned and participated in the various events. Now that we are into a new year, let’s go over a few rules that you may or may not know that’s in the SC handbook. I hope that I am able to shed light on a lot of the Page 38

myths regarding some of SC Motorcycle Laws. Traffic Actuated Signals After a complete stop and waiting for a minimum of 120 seconds, motorcycles may treat a steady red light that does not change as a stop sign; S.C. Code 56-5-970 (5). Mirror Left(L) Right(R) One required by law; click then scroll down to S.C. Code 56-5-3650 (b) 1. Eye Protection Require for riders under 21. 2. Only authorized emergency vehicles and private security patrol vehicles regulated by the State Law Enforcement Division are allowed use or display of any blue lights or red lights.

2013 BMW K1300S!

Rumor had it that BMW was planning on making a bigger bike than the famous S1000RR. The rumors were true and here it is. The BMW K1300r came on the scene in 2008 but was a naked motorcycle. The K1300s has all new fairings and new sleek design. The BMW K1300S is an aerodynamic sports bike that is pushed by 175 horsepower and a 1293cc four stroke in line four cylinder engine. This water cooled bike can get about 50 miles per gallon when maintained at around 55 miles per hour although you can get it to about 125 miles per hour on the track. With the BMW K1300S five gallon fuel tank full and ready to ride it will weigh in at 560 pounds. The twin disc front brakes, single disc rear brakes and ABS will allow you to stop in a hurry and safely when needed. This particular motorcycle books out at $15,550. Thats only $500 more than the BMW S1000RR. -Da Don

Beauty of the Month

Willaree “Ree” Simon 2007 CBR 600 Columbia, SC DA DON’S MOMENT OF TRUTH! Last year Motorcycle Clubs in SC have organized some of the best rides and events you can imagine. Its not too often that clubs have charitable events that don’t go well. Recently I must admit that one particular event really touched me. I was proud to be a part of planning this event. The Love Doctors M/C of Columbia along with The Love Doctors M/C of Sumter, Diamond Riders M/C and South Cak Ryders M/C organized a Feed The Homeless for the holidays. We did it at Chelsea’s Restaurant on Main St. and the turn out was phenomenal. However, it wasn’t the turn out that got me. We sat them down and served them as if they were

!

paying customers. A woman burst into tears and said that this was the first time in years she someone treated her like that. I realize at that moment, we do alot of things but do we take the time to really serve the people we help? I have done several events where we take food and clothes and feed them in the park. They grab their items and keep it moving. Never have I gave much thought to how they feel or what would really make them happy. We do alot, but do we ever get to know the people we help? Do we feel good because we have helped someone or do we feel good because we have gotten to know someone and give more than an item, but rather a bit of ourselves? I see

Ask a Lawyer Chris G here! As a lot of you know, I am a biker and a personal injury paralegal at Reeves, Aiken & Hightower. My boss, Robert Reeves, wrote an article a couple of months back about the importance of having enough underinsured/ uninsured motorist coverage in case you are involved in a motorcycle accident. Well, we now have two more cases since his article, and I’m tired of seeing my brothers and sisters getting screwed! Here is my no-nonsense explanation of insurance.

anything else from the driver unless they have assets. And let’s face it folks, if your bike cost more than the cage that hit you or is an older car, there probably aren’t going to be a lot of assets. Where does this leave the biker? With not enough money to pay the medical bills or repay you for the time you missed at work. The best way to ensure that you and/or your passenger are covered if you have an accident is to beef up your underinsured and/or uninsured Motorist coverage. In doing this, not only would you have the liability limits of $25,000, you would also be entitled to get $25,000 from your own underinsured policy. If there are any additional insured vehicles in your household, those underinsured limits could be added as well. These limits are a lot more affordable to raise than liability insurance and will at least ensure that your medical bills are covered. I beg you to please ask your

Motorcycle accidents with NO broken bones will have medical bills of around $30,000. The helicopter flight alone is around $25,000 and whether it’s needed or not, if you are in a motorcycle accident, you will be airlifted. With broken bones, injured organs, etc., the price of medical treatment doubles and triples.

insurance company today about raising your limits!

In most motorcycle accidents, a cage is at fault. The average auto owner in South Carolina only has the minimum limits of $25,000. Once those minimum limits are paid by the at-fault driver’s insurance company, you cannot recover

If you have any questions at all, or a specific issue you would like to discuss, you can reach Mr. Reeves directly on his mobile phone 803-554-4157 or by direct email at rjrlaw@ gmail.com. Ride safe everyone!

ARTICLE CONTAINS CONTENT THAT MAY BE OBJECTIONABLE

I F YO U A R E E A S I LY O F F E N D E D T U R N T H E PA G E N O W Written herein you’ll find some original stories, mostly lies, & some stolen words of wisdon from various sources. It’s purely humor so lighten up, PJ

Well now that’s about too cold outside to do much of anything. I figure I could tell ya about the time we needed some fish for a fish fry we were gonna have. Now this was in the middle of July and it was so hot even the birds were wearing deodorant. I mean it was hot! The fish hadn’t been biting at all for 2 or 3 weeks now, so me and ol’Bean (that’s my double cuz) went to see our other cuz Vern at the bait store. There was all the big fishermen standing around drinkin beer and telling lies but mostly complaining about the fish not biting. Said there aint been a fish caught in a month in our county. So that’s when me and ol’Bean went to thinking. We told cuz Vern we’d be back later. So we went to see our uncle Nate. Uncle Nate knew everything there was to know about fishing but only shared his secrets with direct kin folks. Ol’Bean wasa trying to explain we just had to come up with some fish for the fish fry. So he said well I got a secret weapon don’t nobody know about, and we Page 44

could use it but only if we swore to secrecy. Ya see uncle Nate was on my momma’s side the family and he had several years earlier stole this magic fish secret from a uncle of mine on my dad’s side. So after crossing our hearts and spitting in the fire and a dozen or so other rituals of secrecy he finally brought it out and told how it worked. Next morning we go down to the creek to try this magic fishing box out. Wasn’t an hour and we had a wash tub full of fish. So we go down to the bait store to show them ol boys we knew how catch um no matter what the weather. Well we didn’t see the game warden sitting in back. So next morning we take off to tha creek. We get our magic fishing box set, ol’Bean is still knee deep when I started cranking on the handle of that thing and he let out the biggest ole scream I ever heard! He took off running and those fish was a dancing on top of the water like it was Saturday night. Man I was having me some more kinda fun. That’s when ol’Bean tapped me on the shoulder, I said wait a minute, get down there and get those fish. But the voice I heard in my ears weren’t Beans. It was the game warden. Seems that fishing with a wind up telephone is frowned upon. So I’ll tell ya the rest when I get outta jail. Have I ever told yun’s about the time I got put in the pokey for failing to yield the right of way. Seems like them Ol’Boyz with the gun, badge, and attitude really do frown on crime. Heck I thought I was being framed for a murder or something, the way these ol’boys was a carrying on. Ya see it all started with a sip Saddle-Up & Lets-Ride

out of the Apple pie jug. We all know you can’t take just one sip of that stuff. Well it wasa gettin kinda late and the ole lady done called 8 or 10 times for me to get on home, so I did. Or at least I tried to did! Well now here’s where things get a little fuzzy. When I came to my sense’s I was handcuffed and being read my rights. There was flashing lights everywhere, yellow crime scene tape being put up. Police taking measurements and talking to witnesses. I was confused! First question that cop asked me was, do you know what you have done here Mr? Well seeing how things were kinda blurry and I knew it had to be some terrible crime, It made sense to me, so I said officer I swear it was self defense! He said oh no Mr. We are throwing the book at you, for failing to yield right of way! I didn’t see my ole scooter any where so I asked was she hurt. That cop told me, what scooter? You were down on your hands and knees making motorcycle sounds flicking a cigarette lighter and screaming left turn don’t have to yield. Held up traffic. For 15 minutes! Gave poor old Mrs. Raftshaw a nervous condition. But for my crimes the judge let me off light and made me direct school traffic for a week. But the city did pass a new ordinance in honor of my crime wave. Crawling under the influence is now a crime in this South Cackylacky town!

Dear Dr. DILLIGAF

ARTICLE CONTAINS CONTENT THAT MAY BE OBJECTIONABLE

Dear Doc, I’ve been telling my buddies for two years now to be stocking up on amo. I think the bullet is going to be worth more than gold. I myself have stocked 6,000 rounds. Signs in stores say you can only purchase one box of amo- period. Shelves in the stores are empty all over the country. Gun show in Atlanta was limiting amo. Guns are not going to be any good to anybody if you can’t find bullets. An empty gun is a rock. Grant Lewisville, SC Grant, For a guy named after a general you sure do have the right attitude but like everybody else your too late to the party. As a country people have let the government take freedom little by little every day. Where were you at the last lobby days, your country needs you now to tell your legislators how you feel. The group of people that vote these people into office, and express their opinions to them, are the only ones that have any say. If your content to sit on your ass and wait for things to get so bad that you need a gun to fix it you can’t buy enough bullets to help. So quit whining to the guys at the gun store and plan a ride to Columbia. Dear Doc I read your page first thing every month, I like the one about the feathers on the gas tank from the Yankee and you sent him back up north to grow a pair. What do I say to my pal when he rolls up in shorts, o shirt, and flip flops ready to ride. I just looked at him, he said should I go home & change, I wanta get some dun. I said, hell no man you aint my date but when your ass bites the dust in them short britches don’t whine or a rock takes the meat off your foot or you get that nice egg from your pipes. Sure enough, leg burnt at first stop…we have to stop at the Dollar General to get an ace bandage so he don’t burn his burn. These dummies up here ride practically naked. A tan they say, yeah right, more like showing off that gym membership drinking that unleaded beer. Bikers legs are supposed to be untouched by Page 46

I F YO U A R E E A S I LY O F F E N D E D T U R N T H E PA G E N O W solar rays. Doc tell these idiots to put some clothes on. Believe it or not everyone of these guys read your piece, every month. Buster Bo Chester, SC Buster Bo, Let those guys see what someone looks like duct tapped to a straight chair with one person pouring Jack Daniels in them and on their person using a grill brush to get the asphalt out of them, the screams alone will send them to the store for jeans. Ever wonder why you see old bikers wearing chaps in the summer time. Now you know. And the thought of my lil piggys getting scraped off by a highway at 60mph is enough to keep boots on my feet any day. Look at the racers, these are professional riders that know how to operate a bike and you will never see a guy at Road Atlanta running through the twisties in a mini skirt. Gear up or stay home, if you choose comfort over safety and a tan over being a responsible rider then I don’t want you in the road with me. Give ‘em Hell Bo. Dear Dr. Dilligaf, I’m writing to you to see how I can order a years Carolina Chrome Magazine. I’m in prison, have been for 16 years and a friend of mine got your magazine from somebody and I seen them and really like your page and the whole magazine. I’m willing to pay whatever it costs to get these because it’s the best magazine I have seen in a long time and the only one I have ever heard of that only features bikers from one state. South Carolina is lucky. Dad had Harleys most of my life and I love them myself and hope to get one when I get out. I appreciate you taking time to read my letter. Hope to hear back soon. I’m not a biker but I feel like one because I was raised around them all my life and hopefully I will be a biker one day. Biker Friend, Doug Kershaw, SC (Editor’s Note: Subscriptions can be ordered at www.bikerdropship.com for just the cost of shipping; however, Doug we’re gonna hook a brother up. Thanks for writing to the Doc. L&R, RubyRed) Doug, Keep your thoughts free, your head Saddle-Up & Lets-Ride

up, and your soap close. Everyone looks forward to the day you’re out and you can bet that the biker world is ready to see another brother in the wind. Stay strong. Dear Doctor DILLIGAF, Any advice on tires? About time to change up my back tire and talking to some men around here who put car tires on the rear. I’ve never heard of that but they say it gets 60,000 miles a tire. I gotta wonder what that does to handling , cornering, and inclement weather conditions. I’ve heard Dunlop is the way to go but buy a BIKE TIRE. I didn’t grow up around motorcycles, I just love the lifestyle and the freedom so I have to look to old school cats like yourself for what I need to learn. Forget a manual, talk to an old biker with some miles and he will know, keeping my mouth shut & listening. Can you help me with some advice please, I’m a Clemson fan too? I like that Honda shop in Columbia on I-20, they took time to show me things to look for on my tires and visual maintenance, explained it so I could get it. I ride a Harley but they never blinked. Thanks so much Doc for your letters. Hope this one makes the cut in this CHROME. Wing Woman Sumter, SC Wing woman, Somewhere back in the stone age the cavemen figured out the best tire is a round one, as far as car tires go they only have tread on the bottoms and not the sides where you need tread if you’re planning on doing any leaning. Back in the 60s there weren’t as many tire options as there are today and I know a guy that totaled 57 Indian chief in a curve trying to use a car tire because he got it to fit, he hasn’t ridden again. If you’re going to Honda shops for Harley parts and you even considered putting a car tire on your bike then I suppose you called the dentist for your last OB appointment. I’m glad you like Tigers but you should have spent more time on campus and less time in Death Valley.
