A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down! Hospitalized children and infants need special pharmaceuticals and equipment to suite their small physique. Unfortunately, the medicines and machines needed for a healthy recovery are highly specialized and costly. The Children’s Miracle Network has devoted many years to help make treatment affordable for parents. (Continued below)

This nonprofit organization raises money to help hospitalized children and infants receive the medical care they need. It also works to spread awareness for its member hospitals that support their funding. Key Club International joined the effort

in 1996 when it partnered with Children’s Miracle Network. With the help of Key Club International, healthcare will continue to be provided for those children whose parents cannot afford it. Now you may be wondering how it is that your club can take action? Your club can raise awareness in your community and fundraise by participating in the Service of Champions Day, a service-athon. You can also organize and sponsor a dance marathon or a bake sale at your school. One of the best things that your club can do to spread awareness is to become familiar with the organization and the cause. Captivate your audience with more than just facts though. Knowing and believing in what you stand for is especially powerful and moving. Try to start spreading awareness and fundraising a step-at-a-time. The next time you look back you might just be surprised at how far you’ve gone. You can do it!

Dish about the District Project! Take a bite! The Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, NC, about three hours away from Columbia, provides a Christian home to mistreated, neglected, and dependent children. Kids just like you and me are offered food, clothing, shelter, guidance, and support during their time spent here. The supreme goal of the Boys and Girls home is for children to go back home to their families. However, if this becomes unmanageable care is

Club Treasurers! Stay on top of these tasks:  Collect member dues. Record those who haven’t paid and give them friendly reminders.  Prepare the budget and make sure club activities follow it.  Maintain correct financial records.  Design and organize fundraisers to help with funding club activities.  Work with faculty advisor and Kiwanis advisor on financial matters.

given until the children reach into a successful adulthood. The Carolina’s Key Club District helps out in two ways. One way is to raise money for the Van project, where money goes toward the purchase of vans to transport children at the home to their activities, such as school. The second way is to donate money during November for the purchase of Christmas presents. Remember the children at the Boys and Girls Home don’t have families to give them presents during the holidays, so they need your help! The Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina also enthusiastically accepts donations of: school supplies, toiletries, and clothing. These donations are sold in the Boys and Girls Home Country store on campus to fund various projects at the home. Last week-end the District Board visited the home in Lake Waccamaw. We were lucky enough to meet the children and see the home. It was an amazing experience! All of the workers at the home have such huge hearts for the children, but they still need your helpful service. Get started now by gathering donations, raising money, and spreading awareness!

A little bite about me! My name is Caroline Kelley, and I am your 2012-2013 Key Club International Lieutenant Governor. As your lt. governor, I represent you as both a club and a member, by acting as your voice on the Carolinas District board. Over the next year, I will keep you informed about Key Club International and its projects and events. I will not only help build your club a stronger (Continued below)

foundational future, but also help build new clubs in your community. I especially look forward to getting involved in your club and getting to know you personally. I am here for any questions or concerns that you might have, so please do not hesitate to ask.

Though my year as your lt. governor is just now beginning, and I haven’t been able visit your club yet, I figured you should know a little bit about me on a more personal basis. I attend Richland Northeast High School in Northeast Columbia, SC. Currently I am a rising junior. Aside from all of my Key Club activities, I participate in PCA dance at my school and will be working towards an International Baccalaureate diploma for the next two years. I’ve always grown up in a home where service and community were essential to happiness. A life well-lived and worthwhile, in my opinion, is one filled with moments where I am selflessly serving my community. What greater gift is there in the world than love given without wanting anything in return? I doubt I’ll ever perfect this as long as I live, but each day is a new chance to change the world. Don’t ever doubt that you can. Love is a powerful thing.
