Welcome to the show, It’s an exciting time to be in the book industry, especially as independent booksellers. With innovative technology at our fingertips and an ever-changing market, opportunity is all around us. As a new executive director, a common refrain I hear from booksellers, publishers, and vendors alike is this: There’s strength in numbers. By sharing knowledge, networking, and improving the flow of information from publishing houses through to our stores, we empower everyone to think creatively and make wise decisions. The work ahead of us is certainly more rewarding when we do it together. I hope your 2011 MIBA trade show experience brings you many new connections and exciting ideas. Warm regards, Carrie Obry
MIBA Executive Director

Important Facts The trade show is a business-to-business, members-only event between exhibitors and independent booksellers. Dues must be current for members to attend the show and can be paid on-site. Your badge is your ticket to Formal Book Signings, Midwest Booksellers Choice Awards reception, the exhibit floor, and all education. The following are ticketed events (with general admission tickets available for purchase on-site): Adult Author Breakfast, Children’s Author Breakfast, and The Moveable Feast. Only those with badges are allowed on the show floor. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and purchase a badge. No hand carts or wheeled devices, other than wheelchairs, are allowed on the exhibit floor during show hours. A complimentary self-storage area is located on the east side of the Pavilion. MIBA is not responsible for anything stored in this area. Preordered box lunches are available at the registration desk between 12:00 and 2:00 pm. A public address system is available at the registration desk for limited use at the discretion of MIBA staff. In-booth book signings won’t be announced. See schedule on page 18. The 2011 MIBA winter catalog is proudly on display at exhibits 206– 208, where you can also get a complete list of catalog titles. One last thing . . . On the show floor, always practice moderation by asking exhibitors before taking anything from their booth. Free books are a perk of the show, but attendees need to be mindful of publisher and exhibitor resources. Always ask first, and remember “please” and “thank you” are much appreciated.
