DREAM. Who could have dreamed that the Early Childhood Campus fashioned from a storefront in 1982 would become a nationally recognized International Baccalaureate Organization and National School of Character primed to lead the way for others to follow as a standard-bearer for student education and entrepreneurship in less than forty years? WE DID.

Innovation, leadership, and character are part of our DNA. Now is our time to seize the moment and soar.

DREAM.

BELIEVE. The CDS Community is held together by a common belief shared by students, parents, faculty, and staff. We are an exceptional learning environment capable of extraordinary accomplishment, committed to character, kindness, and the pursuit of excellence.

When we started this school in a storefront in 1981, we had a dream of one day being able to offer IB education from preschool all the way through high school. CDS has far exceeded our dreams, so now we are focusing on new ones!

Sara Rubinstein, Interim Head of School “IB Students at CDS apply their skills by not just reading about science, but acting as scientists through student-designed, authentic lab experiences that generate real results. The need for updated science labs and equipment would allow our students to push their projects to the next level, using top-of-the-line equipment to design and perform up-to-date experiments and labs.” Carrollwood Day School has been o n the rise since its inception. L ike our students, we are constantly seeking ways to grow and improve in fulfilling our mission. Each day and e ach year, we are building upon our previous successes and making our school the best it can be for our families by developing our programs and our facilities to support academic growth and build a stronger community. Rebecca Haber, Class of 2014 George Washington University - B.A. University of Pennsylvania - Pre-Medical/Post Baccalaureate Program “Through my college career, a student union was a place to come together to create, socialize, or find new organizations, and was the true heartbeat of campus. Going there helped shape the person I am today. As an alum of CDS, I think about the many skills I gained at the school through a thriving sense of community, and I’m confident that creating a student union would further enhance the opportunities for a successful undergraduate career and beyond.”

INTRODUCING THE FUTURE

Bold dreams, strong belief, and a proven record of achievement build the pathway to the future. Our new and expanded facilities will strengthen the entire school community, providing much needed additions and upgrades to our current facility that will positively impact the entire student body, our faculty, and our CDS families.

THE PLAN 1

2

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Beginning with the school’s first strategic plan in 2008, CDS has thoughtfully planned for its future. Every plan must support the mission of the school and its long-term institutional vision. Led by the Board of Trustees, our planning process is thoughtful, deliberate, and inclusive, including the thinking of parents, students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

With a plan firmly established, it was time to review our previous capital fundraising work and invest in support for embarking on our most ambitious financial undertaking ever. In March of 2018, CDS contracted the service of Carter consulting firm to conduct a planning study. The study revealed key stakeholder perceptions about CDS and its plan for the future, its internal and external readiness to launch a campaign, and some indications about the level of financial support it might receive from a core group of supporters. In May of 2018, Carter shared its report with the Board along with recommendations for the future.

4

MASTER SITE PLANNING

Since 2009, CDS has been working with Hepner Architects, a leading architectural firm with vast experience in school design as well as other private and commercial clients. Plans for the current structure have been reviewed and refined continuously by the Board of Trustees, Head of School, administration, and key faculty and staff.

THE CAMPAIGN

Dream. Believe. Achieve. With Board approval, this campaign has launched and is moving forward. The process has revealed millions of dollars in need to fulfill the objectives of the plan. Accommodating financial needs beyond construction costs has long been a part of the strategic plan for the future. The creation of an endowment for CDS is an important and worthy goal in addition to building the school for the future today. None of the funds raised through tuition, events or the Annual Appeal will be used to fund this campaign. Our success will depend on the generosity of the CDS community.

HIGHLIGHTS STUDENT UNION The new Student Union located on the ground floor of the expansion project is planned to be a flexible, multi-purpose space accommodating up to 350 occupants. This attractive 6,000 square foot space is situated prominently at the center of the new courtyard and will provide a much-needed indoor hub of campus social and academic life. The new commons area will allow for faculty and student connections to eat, laugh, and learn together through grades 1-12. The new Student Union will also serve as a new event space for the entire CDS community and includes contemporary finishes, full commercial kitchen, state-of-the-art sound system, lighting and flexible furnishings. SCIENCE LABS Nine state-of-the-art science labs, along with other adjacent small group study areas designed to promote a “think tank learning environment. The labs will be equipped for engineering, chemistry, biology, and physics. GENIUS BAR Situated at the center of the new learning bridge, the 4,800 square foot Genius Bar will become the hub of innovation education. With the goal of synergy, students and faculty will have a space to share ideas and interactions in an informal setting. ENTREPRENEURIAL INNOVATION LAB Located on the second floor, the Entrepreneurial Innovation Lab features 1,775 square feet of collaborative space designed as an interactive learning environment. The lab will be equipped with a digital presentation wall, integrated LED lighting systems, and flexible furniture accommodating a variety of activities including conferencing, lectures, and multimedia presentations for an audience of 200.
