World’s First Million Dollar Luxury Monster Truck Goes Up For Sale

The Million Dollar Baby

Big

Toyz Racing Motors (BTR), the premier custom fabricator of the world’s longest monster truck and luxury 4x4 vehicles, recently announced that the Sin City Hustler - the world’s first and only million dollar monster truck - is now being made available to the public. This one-of-one Ford Excursion monster truck features top of the line parts and was hand-built from the ground up by BTR’s racing team. “We spared no expense when it came to building the Sin City Hustler,” said Brad Campbell, Owner of Big Toyz Racing Motors. “From its custom 521 cubic inch big block motor and hand built chassis, to its killer design with hundreds of one-off billet parts and show quality paint, this oneof-a-kind monster truck is nothing short of spectacular.” An engineering feat, the million dollar monster truck was built by hand; it measures approximately 12 feet tall, 32 feet in length and weighs in at 15,000 pounds. This 4-wheel drive behemoth has a custom parts list a mile long and features a Ford big block motor capable of pushing out over 700 horsepower. In addition to the Excursion’s massive performance numbers, this tricked out truck features a fully custom built race spec DOM tube chassis and custom suspension that makes it virtually unbreakable and up for the challenge on any terrain.

The Million Dollar Baby

Founded in 1999, Big Toyz Racing Motors has evolved from a simple fabrications and modifications garage to designing and bringing to life the world’s longest monster truck and luxury 4x4’s. At BTR, precision and quality are what make their vehicles so unique and desirable to customers worldwide. For further information, contact Big Toyz Racing Motors on the web at www.bigtoyzracing.com

The Million Dollar Baby

Only the highest quality materials were used on the truck’s build. Each piece was measured and re-measured, to ensure exactness and overall reliability. What started out as a mechanical build, became art and eventually turned into a one of a kind vehicle. “The Sin City Hustler is a great example of our team’s craftsmanship and dedication to perfection,” said Jennifer Campbell, Co-owner of Big Toyz Racing Motors. “Since we first unveiled this mammoth monster truck, people have been asking us how they could purchase one. While we are sad to see it leave, it’s time to give someone else the opportunity to enjoy it. Whether you choose to take it to the dunes, impress your friends, market your company, or use it as a lucrative business, this truck will make a statement wherever you go.” In addition to all of its custom parts, the Sin City Hustler offers a reliable and virtually maintenance free platform. In most cases, the engine can be swapped within hours, the transmission can be pulled within 30 minutes and additional parts such as transfer case gears can be replaced in a matter of minutes. What this means, is this custom truck was built to be extremely reliable with little to no maintenance and an easy, simple solution whenever a problem occurs.

Alfa Romeo Giulia

The

new Giulia is no exception to the heritage of Alfa Romeo because it encapsulates three particularities of Italian design: sense of proportions, simplicity and care for surface quality. In particular, the proportions are based on the technical architecture of the entire car: for Alfa Romeo the key elements were the 50/50 weight balance and rear wheel drive. The six-cylinder turbo petrol tuned by engineers with Ferrari background delivers 510 HP and exhilarating performance: for instance, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds. It was decided that electronics should only be used to make the driving experience guaranteed by excel-

lent basic mechanicals even more exhilarating. This is demonstrated by the exclusive technical solutions present on the new car, like Torque Vectoring with a double clutch to allow the rear differential to control the torque delivery to each wheel separately. In this manner, power transmission to the road is improved also in low grip conditions. The new Alfa Romeo Giulia also features a renewed Alfa DNA which modifies the car’s dynamic behaviour according to the driver’s selection: Dynamic, Natural, Advanced Efficient (energy efficiency mode implemented for the first time on an Alfa Romeo) and naturally Racing (on high performance versions).

new BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

the

HOMMAGE

Amid the audacious design studies and automotive beauties from a bygone era gathered at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este (Como, Italy, May 24), the BMW Group presented its new BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage. This model is the BMW Design Team’s tribute to the 3.0 CSL, a timeless classic and iconic BMW Coupé from the 1970s.

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

“CSL”

stands for “Coupé Sport Leichtbau” (coupé, sport, lightweight). With its aluminium bonnet, boot and wings, Plexiglas windows and equipment rigorously pared down to the bare essentials, the old BMW 3.0 CSL tipped the scales around 200 kg lighter than its sibling model, the BMW 3.0 CS. Unsurprisingly, then, it was predestined for a career on the race track. Whereas the material of choice in the 1970s was aluminium, today carbon fibre – or carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) – offers the optimum weight-to-strength ratio. These high-strength fibres are even lighter and stronger than aluminium. And the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage makes generous use of the high-tech composite, reinterpreting the concept of lightweight design for the modern age. Wherever CFRP is used, it is also visible – rendering the lightweight design principle tangible both inside and out. The BMW Group is a world leader in the production and application of CFRP in automotive design and can already boast many years of experience in series production of CFRP structural parts for the BMW M and, in particular, the BMW i.

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

“Our Hommage cars not only demonstrate how proud we are of our heritage, but also how important the past can be in determining our future,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage represents a nod to the engineering achievement exemplified by the BMW 3.0 CSL in its lightweight design and performance. With intelligent lightweight construction and modern materials, the 3.0 CSL Hommage brings the character of that earlier model into the 21st century, showing it in a new and exciting guise.”

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

THE EXTERIOR: POWER AND ELEGANCE. The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage is a vision of pure athleticism: the elongated body is set off by distinctive air deflectors, powerful wheel arches and prominent spoilers to the roof and tail. Despite its size, the aerodynamic elements are key in enabling air to flow optimally along the sides of the vehicle. The front air deflector serves to vent the engine compartment, while wings over the rear wheels ensure optimum airflow around the vehicle. Small rear-view cameras serve to further reduce aerodynamic drag. The large rear spoiler increases downforce on the driven rear axle and in so doing improves power transmission. The Air Curtain and Air Breather systems guarantee optimum ventilation of the wheel housings. And the sheer self-confidence and sporting prowess of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage are perfectly summed up in the original colour of its spiritual predecessor – Golf Yellow.

THE FRONT END – MUSCULAR ATHLETICISM. Boasting one of the broadest and lowest front ends of any vehicle in the BMW Group, the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage’s front exudes pure power and athleticism. At the centre, the characteristic BMW kidney grille stands tall in citation of the more upright styling of the kidney grille of yesteryear. The size and spatial depth of the kidney grille symbolise the output of the powerful six-cylinder in-line engine with eBoost. At the same time, the finely wrought geometry of frame and kidney struts lends the front end an air of quality and exclusivity. The characteristic four-eyed face gives a contemporary, hexagonal interpretation of front-end sportiness. Laser light and LED technology facilitate slender, state-of-theart lighting graphics, and the flat contours of the headlamps generate that characteristically focused BMW look. A stylised “X” inside the lights divides the lighting functions and conjures up memories of the X-shaped headlamp stickers once used in long-distance racing. Horizontal LED strips create a visual bond between headlamps and kidney grille while at the same time emphasising the broad, flat impact of the front end. A large carbon-fibre front splitter reduces the gap between road and front end and, in combination with the kidney grille, offers a modern interpretation of the earlier car’s highly distinctive shark nose. Two circular openings and a series of elongated slots pay tribute to other elements featured in the earlier car, but offer a new interpretation for the 21st century.

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

THE SIDES – CONTRAPUNTAL ELEGANCE. The vehicle sides are in elegant counterpoint to the marked athleticism of front and rear. The long wheelbase and elongated bonnet appear to stretch the Hommage’s silhouette. A continuous, horizontal line encircles the vehicle by way of paying tribute to a distinctive stylistic feature of the earlier BMW 3.0 CSL: its all-round chrome trim. In combination with the black highlight beneath, the continuous line intensifies the flat, elongated appearance of the sides. A particular detail of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage is the roofline. Consciously subdivided into three, the line recalls the distinctive upper section of the BMW 3.0 CS – one of the first coupés to feature a roof that did not flow into the tail. Compared with the ubiquitous fastback coupés of the day, this was both an innovation and a design statement, a feature that exuded athleticism and elegance in equal measure. In keeping with the BMW 3.0 CSL, the Hommage features a BMW logo on each of the C-pillars. The all-round shoulderline is also the starting point for the subtle, finely sculpted surfaces of the sides. It follows the development of the shadowy areas behind the front wheel all the way to the lit surfaces above the rear wheels. This interplay between light and shade lends movement and dynamic intensity to the generous surfaces of the vehicle’s sides. Dark CFRP areas narrow the gap between the sides and the road, again paying tribute to the consistent lightweight design of the BMW 3.0 CSL. In combination with the black graphic accents, the dark lightweight

elements reduce the perceived height of the vehicle and further emphasise its flat silhouette. The black 21” alloy wheels in matt and high-gloss bi-colour versions offer an additional unique highlight. Air control blades in the interstices of the wheel rims, meanwhile, serve to further optimise aerodynamics. THE REAR END – A MUSCULAR PRESENCE. As with the front end, the vehicle’s tail is broad and muscular in design. Generous surfaces generate presence, horizontal elements emphasise width. A particular highlight is the styling of the rear lights: an LED strip above the spoiler links the two lights, thus giving the rear end a formal framework. The powerfully sculpted rear apron with CFRP diffusor creates a visual impression of the BMW 3.0 CSL’s raw power. Even viewed from above, the BMW 3.0 CSL is extremely dynamic. From kidney grille to headlamps, the bonnet traces a broad “V” – a nostalgic throwback to a distinctive and dynamic element of earlier BMW coupés.

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

THE INTERIOR – PURIST ELEGANCE. Pared down to a minimum, the interior of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage puts its lightweight design on show and renders its racing character elegantly tangible. All interior elements are there out of absolute necessity, every part has a highquality design, structural or drive-related function. In the all-CFRP interior, the only wood-like presence is the “instrument panel” – a cross-member and purely structural element. This is a clear reference to the interior of the earlier BMW 3.0 CSL, which featured an all-round wood trim throughout the interior. In the new version, only the small central eBoost charging display interrupts the wooden instrument panel. Infotainment is equally minimalist in concept: a central display on the steering column informs the driver of the current gear, speed, revs and shift point.

RACING GENES AND LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH FINESSE. Other racing features include bucket seats with high-quality stitching, a six-point belt and red anodised safety features such as the outlet nozzles for the extinguishing foam, the fire extinguisher itself, and the two switches on the centre console for the emergency shut-off and fire extinguishing mechanism. The only elements in the rear of the vehicle are two helmets integrated into the transmission tunnel. These are held in place by a belt when not in use. In the place of a rear seat bench, there are only covers for the eBoost energy accumulators. Special reflector technology in combination with LED strips create an impressive 3D effect on the covers. In its use of cutting-edge materials and detailed solutions, the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage displays technical sophistication and subtlety of form. Meticulously crafted aluminium sleeves add high-quality accents at the junctions between individual structural elements. The door design is as minimalist as it is expressive: precise, clean surfaces trace an arc rearwards, lending the door element a flowing, dynamic quality. The door openers combine a DTMstyle pull strap with the elegant handleintegrated opener of the earlier BMW 3.0 CSL, resulting in the hybrid solution of a nylon pull strap located directly behind the grab handle in the door. As with the interior as a whole, this detail lends expression to the unique character of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage: a winning combination of lightweight design, athleticism and elegance.

BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

Karim Habib, Head of BMW Design, explains the thinking behind the design of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage: “For BMW designers like us, the BMW 3.0 CSL is a style icon. Its combination of racing genes and elegance generates an engaging aesthetic that continues to win hearts even today. The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage celebrates many of those characteristic features, but without copying them. Indeed, some of the parallels are not immediately obvious. We wanted people to sense the family resemblance rather than see it straight off.”

New Lexus RX

DYNAMIC LUXURY New 2016 Dodge Viper ACR

Lexus is again challenging the luxury sport utility segment with its fourth generation RX

New Lexus RX

As

the best-selling model in the brand’s 26-year history—with sales of more than 2.1 million units—the RX represents three out of ten vehicles ever sold by Lexus. The new model looks to build on that trend with a completely redesigned luxurious interior wrapped in a attractive new body style. The large dose of Lexus brand DNA that’s been artfully incorporated into the details can not only be seen, but also felt. The reimagined RX boasts superior on-road performance and new safety technologies that include the innovative Lexus Safety System+. Takayuki Katsuda, the Chief Engineer of the RX said, “Our ambition has been to make a bold and completely new statement in this segment while building on and staying true to the pioneering values of previous RX generations. The pioneering spirit of Lexus drives us to create new technology and gives rise to new ideas. It allows us to introduce new vehicles with leading-edge features.

And indeed, we are committed to bringing ‘progressive luxury’ to the world. I believe this new RX will not only surprise new customers, but will also delight and satisfy our loyal customers, whose high expectations will be met by many new innovations.” A BOLD EXCITING NEW LOOK The front features a completely new fascia that’s highlighted by an emboldened spindle grille with a chrome-plated border and triple L-shape-LED headlamps. Together with the redesigned fog lamps, this gives the RX an elegant yet futuristic aura. Muscular front fender flares add to the vehicle’s sporty attitude. When seen from the side, the sharp character line that runs from the front fenders to the rear end, together with a flowing roofline, give the RX a dynamic profile that minimizes drag and decreases front and rear lift. All of this makes the vehicle more stable at high speed with a sharp reduction in wind noise. A truly innovative styling cue

is the blacked-out C-pillars, which provide a floating-roof effect never before seen on a Lexus product. Also, newly designed 20-inches aluminium wheels, which replace the current model’s 19-inches variants, can now be customized with variable colour inserts to emphasize the driver’s individuality. The appearance of the rear has been sharpened and exudes a sense of rocksolid stability, highlighted by new L-shaped taillights that wrap around the sides of the vehicle, creating a wider, more authoritative presence when illuminated. Inside, the new RX’s cabin is one of comfort and luxury, with repositioned trim pieces that exude a high level of class, and specially-finished laser-cut wood ornamentation available for those who desire an extra dose of opulence. A large headsup display (HUD) takes centre stage, while the information display area, featuring a 12.3-inches monitor, has been separated from the main operations area.

New Lexus RX

Launched in 1989, Lexus has become renowned throughout the world for its pursuit of perfection, the outstanding quality and sophisticated high-technology content of its products, and for its unique concept of complete customer service. Further reinforcing the traditional Lexus values of unparalleled build quality, comfort and interior luxury, Lexus has completely rejuvenated its line-up over the last years, launching a new wave of emotional and inspirational products featuring bolder product execution, superior driving dynamics and state-of-the-art technologies. Today, Lexus remains the first - and only - premium automotive manufacturer to offer a comprehensive fullhybrid model range comprising the RX 450h, the NX 300h, the GS 450h and GS 300h, the LS 600h, the ES 300h, the IS 300h and the CT 200h.

New Lexus RX

Also, the shift lever has been moved away from the front of the instrument panel to optimize operability and create more space for the driver. But the driver isn’t the only one who benefits from the new interior. Rear-seat occupants are treated to more leg and knee space, and the newlydeveloped seats offer heating and power reclining features that not only enhance convenience, they also provide a luxury feel and a sense of hospitality and sophistication. A panorama sunroof enhances the RX cabin’s spaciousness and provides occupants with a refreshing open-air experience. “We designed the RX to have high amount of an excitement and strength. The lengthened wheelbase and larger tire size results in sporty powerful proportions. Even while ensuring a high level of luxury and space within the cabin, the RX’s silhouette remains sleek and dynamic, while the interior has been designed for easy operation with luxurious execution,” Gen Ikeda, the chief designer of the RX, said. SMOOTH, POWERFUL AND EFFICIENT ENGINES UNDER THE HOOD The new RX will be available with an upgraded and more powerful 3.5-liter V-6 petrol engine aiming at delivering 300 hp, mated with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, and as full hybrid model. The hybrid powertrain will feature an improved Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V-6 engine. When combined with the electric motor, the total output will be around 300 hp. All RX engines have been tuned to achieve high fuel economy and low carbon emissions.

BETTER HANDLING AND STABILITY The all-new RX has been engineered to deliver car-like handling. The entire chassis has been fortified to provide better stability and control through turns. The vehicle’s body structure has been strengthened with added stiffness, helping to drastically improve its handling response while keeping engine and road noise from entering the cabin. The vehicle also features Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) designed to recognize potentially dangerous situations and make automatic and often transparent adjustments to ensure the car remains in control when entering and exiting corners. Also, All-Wheel Drive improves the RX’s handling performance and stability on dry and slick surfaces alike. The RX’s fully independent suspension system, which consists of MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone setup at rear, has been tuned and reinforced to improve handling while keeping ride quality remarkably smooth. Available on most RX versions is the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), which electronically monitors and adapts the suspension damping and steering to ensure optimal handling and ride depending on the driving conditions. This means that wherever the RX goes, the AVS will automatically make lightningquick adjustments to the shock absorber settings, ensuring the smoothest ride quality possible. The system is also designed to produce less body lean through corners, providing a sporty driving experience.

New Lexus RX

The RX F SPORT’s performance on the road has been enhanced by an active stabilizer system whose cuttingedge technology keeps the vehicle’s body amazingly flat through corners. The aforementioned AVS, which also helps keep the vehicle planted to driving surfaces through turns, is standard on RX F SPORT. The driver can select the AVS-enhanced Sport S+ mode, in addition to Eco, Normal and Sports S settings, on the Drive Mode Select control located on the centre console.

New Lexus RX

SAFETY IS A PRIORITY WITH LEXUS SAFETY SYSTEM+ True to Lexus’s ongoing focus on safety, the all-new RX comes with significant improvements in active and passive safety. Among these new improvements are the upgraded body structure that heightens the overall passive safety of the RX, and Lexus Safety System+, which helps avoid or mitigate collisions across a wide range of vehicle speeds. Introduced globally, Lexus Safety System+ integrates several of Lexus’s existing active safety technologies. These include the Pre-Collision System (PCS) that detects sudden stops initiated by the vehicle in front, warning drivers of potential contact with obstacles and pedestrians ahead; Lane Departure Alert (LDA), which issues an audible signal if the vehicle strays from its intended lane; and Automatic High Beam (AHB) that helps ensure optimal forward visibility during night-time driving.

Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, is the historic home of the sports car maker and the place where around 13,000 cars were hand-built before production moved to Gaydon, Warwickshire, in 2007. Now an approved heritage service and restoration facility as well as a new car dealership it is possible to view, purchase, service and restore cars from every era of the marque’s 102 years at Aston Martin Works.

its 60th year, Aston Martin Works this week hosted a celebration customer track day at the world-renowned Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire. Works’ clients from across the UK and Continental Europe enjoyed the rare opportunity to put their Aston Martin sports cars to the test on one of the world’s most famous motor racing circuits. The private event, at which owners savored the chance to test out the true performance potential of their sports cars, saw some of the luxury British brand’s most iconic models put through their paces. Among the cars in action were a One-77, a V12 Zagato and an example of the DBRS9 race car. They lined up alongside V8 and V12 Vantages; DB9s, a Virage and a Newport Pagnell-built original Vanquish, among much else. Commenting on the event Aston Martin Works’ Commercial Director Paul Spires said: “It’s great to see so many of our sports cars being driven so skillfully by such an enthusiastic group of owners. When we proposed this idea at the beginning of the year we weren’t sure how many people would want to bring along their cars, but the response today has been superb and I believe all involved have had an experience to remember.” More than 20 Aston Martin sports cars took part, with drivers coached and tutored as required by a group of experienced Aston Martin Performance Driving Instructors.

A Unique Perespective On The Modern Car

‘ENSEMBLE’ Hyundai Motorstudio’s New art installation highlights precision and passion in engineering. Unique creation provides detailed view of inner workings of Genesis Coupe. Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul also renews its ‘Car Rotator’ exhibit Gallery promotes Hyundai brand and automotive culture through art works

‘Ensemble’

Hyundai Motor has unveiled a major new art installation at the Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul, highlighting precision and passion in engineering and offering a truly unique perspective on the modern automobile.

Called ‘Ensemble’, the artwork has been produced by South Korea’s popular media artist group Everyware. It brings alive the beauty of machinery by displaying the many components of Hyundai Motor’s Genesis Coupe in stunning detail. The car is displayed as if time stopped at the point of an explosion, with scattered components supported by intricately jointed steel pipes. To create an immersive experience for visitors at Hyundai Motorstudio, artists of Everyware Hyunwoo Bang and Yunsil Hur have also created a network of miniature roads that wind around the car inside and out, on which tiny cars equipped with cameras can explore every inch of the exhibit. These cameras transmit real-time videos onto multiple screens on the adjoining walls for audiences to experience the car from a truly unique perspective.

Won-Hong Cho, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor, commented, “We planned the exhibition to convey our brand direction ‘Modern Premium’ which is providing new experiences and values that go beyond customer’s expectations through ways that are unique to Hyundai Motor.” The Everyware artist group is famous for imagining art in which people and machines coexist. For the ‘Ensemble’ installation, elements of the vehicle are viewed in a way that echoes perspectives on architecture, with engineering constantly reimagined through changes in the viewing angle. This large-scale artwork continues Hyundai Motor’s philosophy of allowing communication and collaboration with its customers, to shape the future of automotive culture. The Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul is also renewing its iconic Car Rotator installation, which currently frames the building with nine Sonata cars suspended at varying angles on different floors. The cars will be replaced by other models such as the Genesis, Sonata and i40 on third, fourth and fifth floors respectively as a nod to the flexibility and ingenuity of the Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul concept. The new ‘Ensemble’ exhibition will be held until September 30, with further details available at http://motorstudio.hyundai.com.

An

impressive parade of all the cars and motorcycles entered in competition and the announcement of this year’s prize winners provided a dazzling Classic Weekend on the banks of Lake Como with a fitting climax late on Sunday afternoon in front of thousands of spectators. As ever, the best was left until last. The jury of experts provided the event with its crowning moment as the Trofeo BMW Group for “Best of Show” was awarded to an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider from 1932. The Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este prize decided by public referendum was won by a Ferrari 166M Barchetta from 1950. And in the Concept Cars and Prototypes competition the Bentley Exp 10 Speed Six coupé was presented with the Concorso d’Eleganza Design Award. The parkland and green spaces of the Villa d’Este luxury hotel and adjacent Villa Erba once again provided the perfect backdrop for this illustrious and long-established event centred around historic cars and motorcycles. This year the BMW Group presented two head-turning concept studies at the Concorso d’Eleganza. The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage represented a formidable statement on the part of the BMW Design team as it paid tribute to the BMW 3.0 CSL as the BMW Motorrad Design team revealed the BMW Motorrad Concept 101. Elegant, exclusive, extrovert and riding a wave of unbridled power, it represents a totally new take on the touring bike concept. This high-performance, emotionally rich and ultra-exclusive six-cylinder machine turns every ride into a very special experience.

The history of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este began in 1929, when a beauty contest for cars took place at this very spot for the first time. This year’s Concorso d’Eleganza was the eleventh edition of this exclusive get-together to be co-hosted by BMW Group Classic and the Villa d’Este luxury hotel. Now, as ever, Lake Como welcomes a field of exceptionally valuable and rare historic cars and motorcycles to its shores, but nowadays the event also bridges the past, the present and the future of automotive aesthetics. This role is clearly expressed in the visionary designs of the prototypes and concept cars on show.

The idea behind the BMW Art Cars was the brainchild of French racing driver and art enthusiast Hervé Poulain: 40 years ago, Poulain asked artist friend Alexander Calder to apply his creative talents to his race car. Together with Jochen Neerpasch, then BMW Motorsport Director, the first BMW Art Car was born – and it became an instant crowd’s favourite on the race track. Since then, new additions to the BMW Art Car Collection have been made over the years at irregular intervals, with unique works of art from artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney and Jeff Koons. The Scuderia Ferrari test driver, Marc Gené, introduces us to some details of the 458 Challenge EVO, the car engaged in all three Ferrari Challenge series. The car has many components of GT origin, heirs to the successes obtained in championships around the world. Among other elements, Gené emphasises the quality of the breaking system and the efficiency of of the new aerofoil, which makes it possible to exploit a larger aerodynamic downforce and to increase stability and speed through the curves. This innovation allows the drivers of the bestknown one-make championship in the world to push the limits even further, making full use of the car’s potential. It is not a coincidence that more and more drivers who grow in the Ferrari Challenge go on to become top competitors also in the GT championships.

Pretty, likeable‌ and as fast at they come. Simplifying a great deal, this is the portrait of Corinna and Manuela Gostner, the two women drivers who enrich the field of the Ferrari Challenge Europe Coppa Shell. Active athletes since ever (one is an excellent volleyball player, the other has played handball at the top level) Corinna and Manuela discovered the Ferrari Challenge last year in Brno, when they took part in their first time. The Gostners make up a real team that includes two other members: their father Thomas, also a racer in Coppa Shell, and brother David, who is among the top driver in the Trofeo Pirelli. Again in Budapest, during the third round of the Ferrari Challenge Europe, all four of them will be on the track, engaged in breathtaking challenges and thrilling overtakes at the wheel of their Ferrari 458 Challenge EVO. However, make no mistake: Corinna and Manuela shine with their charm, but, once on the track, they are not there to amuse anyone‌

The winning Porsche 919 Hybrid, driven by Nico Huelkenberg, Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy

The predicted four-way fight for overall victory was in reality a two-way struggle between the incumbents, Audi, and the pretenders (albeit pretenders with some serious pedigree), Porsche. Toyota knew its cars were off the pace before arriving in Le Mans, but had hoped beyond hope that their reliability would keep them in the hunt. That both cars stayed the course was an improvement on last year; the margin of defeat suggested more power is required if the Japanese brand is to challenge in the future. Nissan learned all too harshly that while underpinning the spirit of endurance motorsport, innovation is nothing until proven. Porsche demonstrated emphatically that it had learnt the lesson of last year. Speed combined with reliability is a potent mix at an endurance race of this stature. The agility its cars had shown in qualifying was no flash in the pan. Audi may have gone on to set the fastest laps in the race, breaking the existing in-race record, and the team may have been in real contention through two-thirds of the course, yet the 1, 2 finish by Porsche is the only stat that truly matters.

Earl Bamber from Porsche Junior to Le Mans winner in one year

R A E E N O D L L E W

RL

There are days and moments in the life of a race driver that will never be forgotten. For Earl Bamber that day was June 14th, 2015, and the moment was the award ceremony after the Le Mans 24 Hours. Standing on the podium high above the pit lane alongside his teammates Nick Tandy and Nico Hßlkenberg after just winning the world’s most famous endurance race he revelled in the exuberant cheering of ecstatic fans

well done earl

“It was overwhelming to hold this trophy in my hands and be cheered by so many people,” says the 24-year-old New Zealander. “When you dream of winning Le Mans that would normally be about the time you wake up. But this dream continues in real life.” The sensational victory on the Circuit des 24 Heures marks the pinnacle of his meteoric career from Porsche Junior to works driver and celebrated Le Mans winner – all in just over a year. Earl Bamber is no stranger to success. But thanks to Porsche’s support and his racing campaigns in Porsche’s brand trophy series, his career, which began in karting in 2004, got a significant boost. The first critical step was beating all other aspirants from the worldwide make cups

to win the junior selection shootout. In a comprehensive selection process, the eight candidates had to not only turn fast laps but also demonstrate their technical understanding and analytical skills in setting up the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. And no one did this better than the newly-crowned winner of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia from Down Under. As a reward, Porsche gave him 200,000 Euros and the chance to prove himself in the international Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for the 2014 season. And in the flagship series of Porsche’s one-make cups run as support to Formula 1 races, Earl Bamber shone again. As a Porsche Junior, he won the season-opener on the Circuit de Catalunya on the outskirts of Barcelona, and collected victory number two on the demanding Ardennes circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. At the end of the season he was crowned champion. In the Carrera Cup Asia he scored eight victories and ten podium spots to take home the title for the second time, and also added two race wins in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. To top off his banner season, he climbed into the cockpit of the

Porsche 911 RSR for the first time and promptly pocketed second place at Petit Le Mans on Road Atlanta, one of America’s long distance classics. “Receiving backing from Porsche was the chance of a lifetime as a race driver,” says Earl Bamber,

who lives in Kuala Lumpur/ Malaysia, recalling his first phenomenal season with Porsche. “Right from the start I felt I was in good hands and that gave me a lot of confidence. I’ve met some really terrific people and as a race driver I’ve reached a whole new level in every respect.”

well done earl

Things continued at this pace. For 2015, he was signed on as a works driver and, after successful tests in the Porsche 919 Hybrid, quickly stepped up into the LMP1 programme. After Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans was only his second race in the premier class of endurance sport. This task did not faze Earl Bamber either: he confidently mastered the most extreme situations as if he had spent his whole life at the Circuit des 24 Heures. The same can be said for his teammate Nick Tandy. The Briton also celebrated his first major success in Porsche’s brand trophy series. In 2011 he

won the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, and picked up the Porsche Cup the following year as the most successful private Porsche driver worldwide. Tandy joined the Porsche factory squad in 2013. At the wheel of the Porsche 911 RSR he immediately snatched victory at Petit Le Mans and in the 2014 season at the 24 Hours of Daytona as well as at the WEC race in Silverstone. After their Le Mans victory, Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy will now contest the Watkins Glen round of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship in the USA on 28 June in a Porsche 911 RSR. “We are all very proud of Earl and Nick. Their victory at Le Mans is yet another example of the success and the effectiveness of the Porsche youth development concept,” says Head of Porsche Motorsport, Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser. “And it also underlines the importance of Porsche’s brand trophy series as a career stepping stone for young race drivers who, like Earl and Nick, bring the necessary talent, a great willingness to learn and the critical will to succeed. Porsche opens all doors to those who are really fast.”

An Exciting Autobacs Super GT Round In Thailand

THE FIRST WIN IN

THREE YEARS! S Road MOLA GT-R takes its first win in three years! In GT300, a second straight win for car No. 3 in Thailand! The Buriram Super Gt Race, Round 3 of the 2015 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, was run on June 21 at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit Under tough conditions of June in Thailand. The race started at 3:00 in the afternoon when the heat of the day was waning, but still the air temperature was 37 degrees Celsius, as hot as any midsummer race could be.

THE FIRST WIN IN THREE YEARS!

The start of the GT500 class race saw the top three, the polesitting No. 38 ZENT CERUMO RC F (Yuji Tachikawa) and the 2ndand 3rd-place qualifying No. 36 PETRONAS TOM’S RC F (James Rossiter) and No. 46 S Road MOLA GT-R (Satoshi Motoyama) all made a clean start and holding their grid positions through the first lap. Motoyama in the S Road MOLA GT-R, who had proved that he was fast on this course by taking pole position in last year’s race, quickly went after last year’s winner, the PETRONAS TOM’S RC F in the early stages of the race and managed to pass it to move into 2nd position. Then he set his sights on the ZENT CERUMO RC F three seconds in front at that point and began to gradually close the gap. This was the start of what would be a classic battle of veteran champions, pitting Motoyama against the holder of the record for most GT500 wins, Tachikawa. Motoyama in the GT-R had the faster pace, but Tachikawa was more than ready for the challenge with his proven defensive skills. Although he let Motoyama’s GT-R get ahead of him at one point, Tachikawa in the RC F made deft use of the GT300 class back markers to move

Motoyamasan succeeded in getting us in front to the #38 car, but it was still fast and I was expecting it to be a close race to the end. But, our pit stop was very fast, and that advantage took a lot of the pressure off me. In the final stages of the race I was running alone in the lead and the memories of last year came back to my mind and made me uneasy. But I was able to run on with trust in our team and the NISMO staff.

PIT STOP Satoshi Motoyama: “I am very happy about this win because it is our first since I came to the team and for me personally the first in some time. Last year at this circuit I was running so well in the lead until [machine] trouble struck and we couldn’t get the win, so I really wanted to avenge that loss this time. That is the feeling that we came into this weekend with. We were fast from the first official practice, and although we unfortunately couldn’t get the pole position, I was determined to turn the car over to Yanagida in good position after the first half of today’s race. That is what I had in mind as I kept pushing hard in my stint. It took me some time and effort to pass Tachikawa and I didn’t get quite as much margin of lead as I had hoped for, but the pit work was perfect and it turned out to be a good race for us.”

past him again and regain the lead. But, entering the middle stages of the race he couldn’t stop Motoyama from taking the lead once again. In the latter half of the race, Hiroaki Ishiura took the wheel of the ZENT CERUMO RC F and tried to catch up with the S Road MOLA GT-R, now in the hands of Masataka Yanagida, only to suffer brake trouble. This forced Ishiura to the pit for repairs, but he eventually had to retire from the race at that point. With the pressure now gone and a margin of lead in excess of 10 seconds over 2nd place now, Yanagida was able to drive the S Road MOLA GT-R steadily on to victory. For the team and for Yanagida, this was their first win since 2012, and for Motoyama it was his first win since 2011. Finishing 2nd was the No. 6 ENEOS SUSTINA RC F (Kazuya Oshima/Yuji Kunimoto) and in 3rd place came the No.17 KEIHIN NSX CONCEPT-GT (Kodai Tsukakoshi/Hideki Mutoh) that had battled back from an 11th position start. This meant that the podium for the second year’s race in Thailand had all three makers represented; a Nissan GT-R, Lexus RC F and a Honda NSX CONCEPT-GT.

50 years of Formula Vee racing in Europe

FormulaVEE anniversary

At the end of June Formula Vee returned to the Norisring 50 years after the series’ first official race was held there. The Historische Formel Vau Europa (HFVE) fan club celebrated the anniversary by staging show races featuring more than 50 vehicles at the 2.3-kilometre street circuit in Nuremberg. Despite heavy rain on Saturday, the event was attended by motorsport legends such as Porsche’s exsports director Manfred Jahnke, the former Formula 1 driver Dieter Quester (A) and retired pro Leopold Prinz von Bayern (D). The celebrations also attracted leading lights from the early years of Formula Vee and amateur racing drivers. Other guests included Kurt “Master” Bergmann (A), who dominated Formula Vee for years with his Kaimann team and supported subsequent Formula 1 World Champions like Niki Lauda (A) and Keke Rosberg (FIN). The series features a small singleseater powered by Volkswagen. What makes this car so special is that crucial parts – such as the engine, gearbox and wheel suspension system – are based on the VW Käfer. The first Formula Vee race in Europe was held at the Norisring on 4 July 1965.

Although the Formula Vee era came to an end in 1982, races are still held with the famous, muchloved single-seaters. The charity Historische Formel Vau Europa e.V. preserves the history and technology of Formula Vee – the biggest junior racing series of all time – and keeps its legacy alive.

Fourth win of the season for Ogier

The Volkswagen Motorsport crew of Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia claimed their fourth FIA World Rally Championship victory of the season today by winning one of the toughest rounds so far this year, Rally Italia Sardegna. Hayden Paddon and John Kennard, piloting the Hyundai i20 WRC, have however been the revelation of the event and New Zealander Paddon claimed his first-ever WRC podium, while fellow countryman Kennard celebrated his second when they took the runner-up slot. Amid more drama during the final day, Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul climbed the leaderboard to third, giving Hyundai a double podium celebration. In the FIA World Rally Championship, misfortune for many of Ogier’s closest rivals has handed the Frenchman a 66 point advantage over second-placed Mads Østberg. Andreas Mikkelsen slips to third, but just another three points adrift. In the FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers, Volkswagen Motorsport has a 64 point lead over the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team.

Outlander Phev takes on Baja Portalegre 500

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) is to enter an Outlander PHEV, the only twin-motor 4WD in production today, in the Baja Portalegre 500 cross-country rally due to be held in the Portalegre municipality in the eastern part of Portugal from October 22nd to October 24th this year. The specially developed vehicle will be driven by Hiroshi Masuoka, who won the Dakar Rally twice in two years in 2002 and 2003. Masuoka will also be playing a role as the team captain. Sports team which is entering a similarly specified Outlander PHEV in the FIA Asia Cross Country Rally 2015. This support will be in the guise of vehicle construction, vehicle provision and an engineering team. The Asia Cross Country Rally 2015, scheduled to be held from August 8th to August 14th, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Entrants will have to compete over a punishing 2,500 km, mountainous route which starts and finishes in the ancient city of Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand. JEANNEY “THE FRENCHMAN”

Frenchman Davy Jeanney has won the World RX of Germany, round five of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy, after a dominant display at the wheel of a Peugeot 208 RX Supercar. Timmy Hansen finished third to make it a double podium for Team Peugeot-Hansen. Reigning World RX Champion Petter Solberg clinched the runners-up spot and has extended his Championship lead over Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson by 35 points. “To win today feels incredible, it’s been the perfect weekend for me and it’s really fantastic for the team to have Timmy on the podium too,” grinned Jeanney, who enters the record books after becoming the first Frenchman to win a round of World RX. Jeanney also won the Monster Energy Super Charge Award for his rapid start off the line, as well as a limited edition Rebellion Timepieces Wraith Drive rallycross watch. Jeanney, who claimed three heat wins on his path to victory, added: “Both myself and the car have stepped up a level since the start of the year, I made just one small mistake over the weekend and the rest was perfect. I really enjoy the Estering, it’s a track that suits my driving style well and I have good memories after finishing second in Germany two years ago. I’ve not won a rallycross event in five years [France, 2010] and to leave here with maximum points is a fantastic feeling.”

Piquet Jr. is the first Formula E Champion

FINAL DRIVER STANDINGS 1. Nelson Piquet Jr 144pts 2. Sebastien Buemi 143pts 3. Lucas di Grassi 133pts 4. Jerome D’Ambrosio 113pts 5. Sam Bird 103pts 6. Nicolas Prost 88pts 7. Jean-Eric Vergne 70pts 8. Antonio Felix da Costa 51pts 9. Loic Duval 42pts 10. Bruno Senna 40pts

The Brazilian driver took the title at the end of an incredible day in London, with the excitement building as everyone was left holding their breath until the final lap and then some. Piquet drove in a very determined fashion from start to finish, making up a lot of places, thanks to a very aggressive strategy: his courage was rewarded with seventh place, enough for him to triumph in the title fight, which also means that, for the first time, a Chinese team, NEXTEV TCR, has produced the champion in an FIA series.

GT Asia Series From opening practice at Okayama, it was clear that the two scheduled 50-minute races were going to deliver some of the best racing the GT Asia Series had ever produced. There were mere hundredths of a second separating teams in qualifying, and one of the most competitive fields of local and international drivers ever assembled in the series six year history, a perfect recipe for some close and unpredictable racing. On Race 1, the drama started even before the green light, with the #1 Clearwater Racing Ferrari of reigning champion Mok Weng Sun alight down at turn ten. Factory Ferrari star Gianmaria Bruni was set to start the car, but a fire erupted in the engine bay on his roll-around lap. The quick-thinking Italian found a marshalling point to have the fire extinguished, however it took an agonising 90-seconds for it to be put out, ending the teams chances of making the race, and ultimately jeopardising their chances of taking any points away from Okayama. Once the race started though it was all Bentley up front, but as things progressed, the consistent FFF Racing Team by ACM McLa-

ren 650S GT3 of Tonio Liuzzi and Hiroshi Hamaguchi continued to circulate quickly, picking off one car after another to claim an emphatic victory for the new team ahead of the TP12 Racing Ferrari of Carlo Van Dam and Todd Piti, and the Ferrari of points leaders Anthony Liu and Davide Rizzo. Race 2 saw a Lights-to-flag victory for Sawa on home ground and a Bentley historic victory!

PADDOCK MIX Foust triumphs in Daytona Tanner Foust (USA) celebrated a momentous Global Rallycross victory in Daytona. The American from the Andretti Motorsport team triumphed after a fiercely-competitive race on Saturday, which formed the opening leg of a double-header. This was the first victory for the Volkswagen Beetle GRC in Global Rallycross since the car made its debut in Los Angeles last year. Team-mate Scott Speed (USA) was fighting his way through the field from the back row of

the grid in Heat 2A until problems forced him to retire. On Sunday, both Foust and Speed made it into the final. To do so, Foust had to come through the “last chance qualifier” after suffering a damaged suspension. Foust finished fifth in the final, while team-mate Speed had to settle for ninth place having also suffered problems with his suspension. Foust is now third in the Drivers’ Championship with 120 points, 17 behind leader and winner of race two Sebastian Eriksson (S, Ford). Speed lies seventh with 76 points.

Apply now as a Porsche Junior Talented young drivers have until August 1st to put themselves forward to become a Porsche Junior for the 2016 motorsport season. With its successful development programme for young hotshots, Porsche has opened the door for prospective candidates to apply for the selection process. In this respect, Porsche continues to pursue one goal: to train promising youngsters to become professional race drivers. Applications are open to candidates who are born between January 1st, 1994, and February 28th, 1998. Aspirants must be able to prove their participation in a touring car and/ or single-seater series and must not have contested a full season in a Porsche Carrera Cup, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge or in a higher level GT series. To apply for the Porsche youth development programme, potential candidates should use the following application form: www.porsche.com/juniorprogramme. Candidates who are successful in the applica-

tion procedure will participate in a two-stage selection process which includes fitness and endurance tests as well as demonstrating their driving skill at the wheel of the 460 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The chosen Porsche Juniors sign a contract with Porsche AG and will receive support in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. Aside from 150,000 Euros in funding, the Porsche Juniors receive assistance similar to the internationally successful Porsche factory pilots. Fitness tests with constantly adapted training plans as well as media coaching and sponsor obligations are also part of the programme. The former Porsche works driver Sascha Maassen is on hand as a mentor to the juniors at every race. From the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland the juniors move up to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Should they be successful at this level, at best a contract as a Porsche works driver beckons.

Marathon outings for youngsters Races with the BMW M235i Racing form a key part of the BMW Motorsport Junior programme – and the four talented youngsters, Victor Bouveng (SE), Nick Cassidy (NZ), Louis Delétraz (CH) and Trent Hindman (US), can look forward to two exciting new challenges under competitive conditions in 2015: the Juniors will compete in and gain valuable experience at the 24-hour race in Zolder (BE) and the 12-hour race in Brno (CZ). Their first start together is scheduled for the “Circuit Zolder” on 29th/30th August. This 24hour marathon has been thrilling Belgian racing fans since 1983 and over 30,000 spectators are once again expected this year. Bouveng, Delétraz and Hindman will alternate at the wheel of a BMW M235i Racing at the 4.011 kilometre circuit. The car will be run by BMW Motorsport, in cooperation with Walkenhorst Motorsport. They will be supported by

Dirk Adorf (DE), their mentor in the BMW Motorsport Junior programme, who will also play an active role as the fourth driver. Cassidy will not be in action in Zolder, as the race clashes with his race schedule in Japan. “I am really looking forward to racing alongside the guys in Zolder,” said Adorf. “All the 2015 Juniors have plenty of talent and are very quick learners. Endurance events like those in Zolder and Brno allow them to show that they can put what they have learned into practice under race conditions.” The 12 Hours of Brno, which will take place on 10th October, is one of six endurance races that make up the 24h Series. The “Automotodrom Brno” is 5.403 kilometres long and one of the most iconic circuits in Europe. The race gets underway at 12:00 on Saturday and ends at midnight. Bouveng , Cassidy, Delétraz and Hindman will again race in a BMW M235i Racing in the Czech Republic.
