starring in last year’s video shot on the famous 3Tre slope in Madonna di Campiglio, an exciting slalom next to skiing champion Max Blardone, the four-wheel drive from Audi is back to thrill fans. To celebrate the start of the new season of the World Cup, in Sölden (October 22), Audi and Kappa – main partner of the Italian Skiing Federation – have developed and promoted a super-spectaculr video together. The exceptional location was the Etna volcano, with its incredible colors and natural beauty, that highlight the spectacle of the sporting performance and the cutting-edge technology that make the Audi four-wheel drive unique. The new A4 allroad, the perfect travel companion even in the most extreme situations, climbs unstoppable the slopes of the Etna. From the allroad vehicle the FISI athletes step down as they are ready to challenge an unprecedented downhill on the lava surface waiting for the slopes to be covered in snow. The protagonist of the unprecedented adventure were Peter Fill (winner of the downhill men’s World Cup), Ivan Origone (which established the new world speed record on skis touching 254.9 km/h), Patrick Thaler and Johanna Schnarf (who in recent days have received two Audi A4 Avant for the merits obtained during the season). Defying the difficult terrain, the skiers have faced the southern side of the volcano as real champions, to create a stunning brand new sports performance.

THE UNEXPECTED AUSSIE Daniel Ricciardo got a taste of ranch life this week before he swaps his cowboy hat for his Red Bull Racing helmet. Third in the 2016 drivers’ championship, Ricciardo spent time on the Nelson Ranch in La Grange where he learned how to rake hay, bale hay and lasso a cow. “I had a great time.” The Formula 1 driver said – “I honestly enjoy a bit of the Outback and a few of my mates back home have farms. Those hay bales are heavy though – much heavier than I expected so I certainly had to put in some effort.”

TREZOR, a two-seater electric coupĂŠ, embodies the new design philosophy Renault introduced on its DeZir concept in 2010 before inspiring the lines of new Clio in 2012. With its powerful styling and Passion Red coachwork, the DeZir heralded the first stage of a design strategy founded on the cycle of life: falling in love. The TREZOR goes further, by symbolising feelings of maturity and commitment.

and silken at the front, this bodywork mirrors the car’s dynamic character. At the rear, it features hexagonal panels that underline the TREZOR’s sporting temperament and technology. The metallic finish of the TREZOR conveys an image that is both sleek and protective. Its silhouette displays the classic attributes of a GT. On the bonnet, the honeycomb-form air intake echoes the structure of the rear bodywork. These hexagonal shapes provide a variablegeometry intake, the movement of which embellishes the TREZOR with extra dynamism and creates the impression that it is actually breathing. On the left-hand side of the body, the petrol filler hatch has been replaced by an analogue gauge that indicates the vehicle’s charge level, drawing on traditional sports car practice. At the rear, the TREZOR is equipped with resolutely modern fibre-optic lighting integrating a red laser. This ‘rope-like’ fibre assembly provides bright, distinctive lighting. Under braking, the torsion and stacking of the optical fibres creates an interesting visual effect and increases the intensity of the light. The style is warm and sensual, with red as the predominant colour. The accent is on driving pleasure and extensive use is made of high-quality materials, including wood and leather. With its blend of craftsmanship, technology and a truly French touch, the cockpit offers a foretaste of the sleeker, increasingly refined interiors of future Renault models, complete with cutting-edge connectivity. Providing a genuine link between the car’s interior and exterior, the red glazing ensures a bright, warm cabin. The TREZOR’s one-piece door lifts much like the lid of a jewellery box.

Standing just 1,080mm tall, the TREZOR invites occupants to straddle the side of its body as they climb in. This style of entry is a throwback to the world of classic racing cars, wherein drivers felt as one with their machines. The sporting and sensual manner of entry is accentuated by the red leather trim for the upper part of the pillar. It looks almost like a saddle, so you might be mounting a steed just as easily as getting into a car. Ingress is facilitated by automatically reclining headrests. The TREZOR provides another surprise when you climb in, with a dashboard made from red wood that incorporates a luggage compartment at the front of the vehicle. Madeto-measure cases are held in place by leather straps and remind how travel can be an art form. The seats’ rounded contours were inspired by the world of furniture design to create a plush, comfortable interior. Upholstered in smooth, deep-red leather, they embody the refinement of luxury goods. The dashboard is the fruit of a partnership with the French firm KEIM-cycles, which is renowned for its custom wooden, high-performance cycle frames. Using a high-precision process developed by KEIM-cycles, the dashboard comprises superimposed thin strips of ash. The finished article provides a level of strength comparable with that of modern composite materials and underlines the structural qualities of wood, namely light, strong, organic and warm. The refined dashboard highlights the cabin’s modern, high-tech appointments and features a big touch-screen display. The rectangular steering wheel opens up the driver’s field of vision and is redolent of the world of Formula 1. It features three screens, one centrally mounted featuring the logo

and two touchscreen displays to either side instead of conventional stalk controls. The TREZOR’s motor derives from the Renault e.dams, two-time winner of the Formula E Teams’ world title. With maximum power of 260kW (350hp) and peak torque of 380Nm, it provides acceleration from standstill to 100kph in less than four seconds. The TREZOR features two batteries, each of which has its own cooling system optimised by the variable-geometry air intake incorporated in the bonnet. The TREZOR also incorporates a brake-operated energy recovery system, courtesy of the Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) technology developed for Formula E racing. Thanks to its batteries being located separately, one at the front and the other at the rear, the TREZOR has optimal weight distribution. Its rear-wheel-drive system ensures that power is delivered to the road more efficiently to enhance driving pleasure. The TREZOR’s proportions also contribute to its engaging on-the-road manner. Its wide tracks (front: 2,048mm / rear: 2,106mm) and wheelbase (2,776mm) enhance road holding, while the ultra-low bodywork optimises aerodynamics to achieve a drag co-efficient (Cd) of just 0.22. Its centre of gravity is also particularly low (ground clearance: 25cm) for greater stability and less body roll. To improve battery range and performance, Renault Design paid special attention to taking weight out of the vehicle. The chassis incorporates a central carbon cell mated to tubular steel frames front and rear. The monocoque and access hatch are made from carbon. Thanks to this work, the TREZOR boasts the

poise of a spectacular GT (length: 4,700mm / width: 2,180mm / height: 1,080mm) while tipping the scales at just 1,600kg. The TREZOR is fitted with tailor-developed Continental® tyres, fitted to 21- and 22-inch wheels respectively at the front and rear. A part of their tread features a pattern designed to optimise the clearance of surface water while the rest is entirely smooth to maximise grip. The TREZOR sees the brand explore a new approach to dashboard design with a unique L-shaped display that combines the dashboard controls and the multimedia system. This type of screen reinforces the interior’s cockpit feel while the satellite-navigation instructions continue to be visible on the upright part of the display. The TREZOR makes use of the latest Ultra High Definition developments. A combination of OLED technology (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) and Corning Gorilla® Glass has produced a thin, curved screen which, unlike LED displays, does not require backlighting. The result is superior contrast and colour reproduction, along with deeper shades of black with no halo effect.

From the moment you climb in, the screen lights up to welcome you on board and invites you to place your smartphone in a dedicated pocket beneath the armrest. The phone is immediately recognised and a greeting is displayed. The whole vehicle is scanned electronically to ensure everything is functioning correctly. The touch-screen’s interface can be personalised. The smartphone’s apps will appear on the multimedia system’s screen and the driver can display the widgets of that he or she wishes to use on the screen positioned behind the steering wheel. This modern yet easy-to-use interface illustrates Renault’s commitment to create vehicles that are intuitive and a pleasure to travel in. Thanks to Renault’s MULTI-SENSE system, the TREZOR offers a choice of three driving modes: neutral, sport and autonomous. The TREZOR embodies Renault’s vision of how autonomous cars can make travelling safer and more enjoyable, while allowing motorists to optimise how they use their time. When the car is in autonomous mode, the exterior lighting signature changes and extends to the lateral and rear logos, to indicate to other road users that driving has been delegated. Formed by two leather-sheathed aluminium shafts, the steering wheel extends in width in autonomous mode. In the manner of a cinema screen, this movement symbolises a step into a whole new world of travelling. With the wheel in this configuration, the driver also has a panoramic view of the dashboard. In this mode, the TREZOR allows occupants to use their time on a journey to stay connected. The driver and passenger are able to immerse themselves in a shared universe, perhaps by watching a film, playing a game or flicking through photographs…

has pulled the wraps off an all-new, fifthgeneration CR-V, America’s best-selling SUV over the past 20 years. The completely redesigned and reengineered 2017 CR-V, going on sale this winter, boasts bold new styling, a more premium interior, the model’s first-ever turbocharged engine and a host of new features and technologies aimed at maintaining CR-V’s status as the outright benchmark in the highly popular compact SUV segment. American car buyers have purchased nearly 4 million CR-Vs since its U.S. launch in 1997. “The new Honda CR-V raises the bar in every imaginable way, delivering more performance, space and premium content together with higher fuel economy ratings and value than ever before,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. “Customers are going to love what they see and what they experience behind the wheel of this new CR-V.” BOLD AND SOPHISTICATED NEW DESIGN The new CR-V styling heads in a fresh new direction with an aggressive attitude, thanks to crisp and sharp front-end design elements, aggressive stylized headlights surrounded by a wing-shaped LED DRL array on all trims, and wide, muscular fenders. The long hood, longer wheelbase, short rear overhang and dual exhausts give the new CR-V a more sophisticated and athletic presence.

The CR-V’s new windswept front end appearance includes signature Honda LED headlights (Touring trim), a Honda-first Automatic Shutter Grille System that lowers aerodynamic drag, uprated aluminum alloy wheels (sizes 17 to 18 inches depending on trim) and narrower A-pillars for improved visibility. Adding convenience is a Honda-first available Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate, which allows opening and closing the tailgate with a foot activated sensor under the rear of the vehicle. Available Auto High Beam with High Beam Support (HSS) headlights, chrome garnishes, rain-sensing windshield wipers, roof rails and numerous Genuine Honda Accessories also expand beauty, convenience and functionality.

NEW POWERTRAIN AND CHASSIS TECHNOLOGY The 2017 CR-V in EX and higher trims will feature CR-V’s first ever turbocharged engine, a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.5-liter DOHC, direct-injected and turbocharged inline 4-cylinder powerplant rated at 190 horsepower (SAE net) and delivering incredibly refined and responsive performance across the engine’s full operating range. Combined with the CR-V’s more aerodynamic body, the new turbocharged powerplant will garner the highest EPA fuel economy ratings in the compact SUV class. CR-V LX trims will be powered by a 2.4-liter DOHC, direct-injected i-VTEC engine, and both engines will be mated to a smo-


oth shifting and sporty continuously variable transmission (CVT) with Honda G-Shift control logic. Detailed specifications, including EPA ratings, will be provided closer to launch. The all-new body and chassis design in the 2017 CR-V provides more agile and confident handling, greater refinement, additional ground clearance and superior overall versatility. Its front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension utilize specially tuned low-friction dampers, with both FWD and AWD models including tubular front and solid rear stabilizer bars that promote quick turn-in and flatter cornering. Dual-pinion, variable ratio Electric Power Steering (EPS) also contributes to the CR-V’s direct and satisfying steering feel.

The 2017 Honda CR-V will be produced at three plants in North America – in East Liberty, Ohio; Alliston, Ontario, Canada; and, for the first time, in Greensburg, Indiana using domestic and globally sourced parts. Engines for the new CR-V will be manufactured in Anna, Ohio and in Alliston, Ontario, with the CVT being produced in Russells Point, Ohio

MORE PREMIUM, SPACIOUS AND TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED INTERIOR The 2017 CR-V also raises the bar for interior refinement, utility and premium features in the compact SUV class. The more spacious cabin, with top-in-class interior space and the best rear seat legroom in its class, features upgraded materials throughout, including a new soft-touch instrument panel and more intricately stitched seats. A color TFT driver information interface (DII) center meter display adds to the handsome new design aesthetic. The CR-V offers the latest in-vehicle connectivity and audio performance with a new generation of advanced technologies. Available features include a 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface with Android operating system that now features a physical volume knob as well as an available new Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ developed in cooperation with the experts at Garmin®. The CR-V ’s Display Audio system is compatible with the Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ platforms, giving customers seamless integration of key smartphone features and functions, including smartphone-powered GPS navigation and voice-controlled search capabilities. Some of the key new comfort and convenience features available on the 2017 Honda CR-V include remote engine start, dual-zone climate controls, heated side mirrors, an Electric Parking Brake (EPB), rear USB charging ports, front passenger seat with 4-way power adjustment and driver’s seat with 8-way power adjustment and 4-way power lumbar support and heated front and rear outboard seats.

ADVANCED SAFETY AND DRIVER-ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY The refreshed 2015 CR-V debuted the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, helping it capture the 2015 Motor Trend Sport Utility of the Year honors. The 2017 CR-V further expands the application of Honda Sensing as standard equipment on EX and higher trims, expected to account for upwards of 75 percent of CR-V sales. Honda Sensing includes Collision Mitigation Braking (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and pedestrian sensing capability, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed fol-

low and Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS). Additional new driver-assistive technologies include the available Blind Spot Information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM) and Auto High Beam (HSS) headlights. Utilizing Honda’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, the 2017 CR-V targets the highest available collision safety ratings, including an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including a SUPERIOR rating for frontal crash prevention when equipped with Honda Sensing.


In 1969, after a decade of growth that led to Honda becoming the top-selling motorcycle manufacturer in America and the world, Honda embarked on a new mission to sell cars in the United States. Honda entered the U.S. market with the Honda N600, which was just 122 inches in length and could actually fit between the wheels of some full size vehicles in America, which measured up to 225 inches in length and weighed nearly twice as much as the NSX. The N600 had an all-alloy engine that could achieve 9000 rpm and reach speeds of 81 miles per hour. A simple, yet skillfully designed vehicle, the N600 was nimble and fuel-efficient, characteristics it shares with today’s Honda’s, and helped paved the way for the quality and reliability for which Honda vehicles have become known. Since March, Honda has taken viewers on an in-depth journey of the restoration of the very first Honda automobile in America, the N600 with Vehicle Identification Number 1000001, called “Serial One. In the last episode, the fully restored “Serial One” is shared with the audience, along with a look back in time, from the start to finish of the restoration process. Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom has already been crowned the new FIA World Rallycross Champion after scoring enough points at the second to last race in Germany! Driving for his own EKS rallycross team, Ekstrom enjoys a 30 point lead ahead of last year’s World RX Champion Petter Solberg, with the last race in Argentina that will only serve as a parade for the 38 year old driver. We collected his thoughts after mathematically conquering the championship

the Germany RX event (held in Estering on October 14) Mattias Ekstrom finished just fifth but gaining enough points to secure its first title in the Rallycross world, ahead of two-time champion Solberg, with the Argentinian round still to come. The race was won by Kevin Eriksson (this was his very first overall win) who bested Petter Solberg and Andreas Bakkerud to the finish line. As a matter of fact it was a dominant season for the Swedish driver, winner of four events after the bad start in the first race in France (the only event won by rival Solberg), cruising on top of the charts for the entire season and delivering the final blow to the competition in the last three races (Spain, Latvia and Germany) also taking advantage of Petter Solberg’s difficulties. World RX Managing Director for IMG, Paul Bellamy, said: “Congratulations to Mattias Ekstrom who has become our new FIA World Rallycross Champion after forfeiting his first DTM race in over 15 years. Both Mattias and EKS have worked relentlessly since entering full-time in 2015 and for Mattias to have won in both DTM and now in rallycross proves what a natural talent he is behind the wheel. To become World RX Champion is no easy feat - we have some of the best drivers in the world competing in our Championship. Well done to Kevin Eriksson and Olsbergs MSE who took the first win of the year, Kevin’s pace during today final was extraordinary. On top of the exhilarating on-track action, we’ve also had a sell-out crowd in Germany this weekend and it’s always encouraging to see how popular our sport has become.” “This is probably the best day in my whole motorsport career,” declared the new Champion Mattias Ekstrom. “It feels like I have electricity running through my whole body! I have a lot of amazing memories: from winning the Swedish Touring Car Championship back in 1999, my first DTM title in 2004, my Race of Champions win against Loeb in Paris, and also against Michael Schumacher in 2007, then my second DTM title. Now I’m the new World RX Champion and this feeling beats it all because when I started EKS from scratch less than three years ago, this was my dream. I have always wanted to go to an FIA prize-giving ceremony and now I finally can. This is a huge effort for my family, the team and all the guys who have worked to make this happen. To become an FIA World Champion is what I have always wanted and it is the best feeling in the world. Obviously, I owe a lot of gratitude to my employer, Audi Sport. My bosses gave me permission to compete at the Estering in order to maximise my chances of winning the title. That couldn’t be taken for granted, and I’m very thankful for this. I hope that by clinching the big trophy, I was able to put a smile on their faces.”

Is the world championship title worth more than your two DTM titles? “Becoming world champion is definitely really special. I’ve never been one before in my career. My titles and victories with Audi Sport in the DTM are extremely valuable too. But the special aspect of this world championship title is the fact that we started from scratch three years ago. There was nothing in October 2013. Only few people can imagine what my team, EKS, and I have built in this period of time.” Did you follow the DTM finale at Hockenheim from Estering as well? “Of course! I was in contact with my guys at Hockenheim the whole time. After the DTM race, they immediately sent me a photo with congratulations. I’m happy that Abt clinched the teams’ championship without me and Audi Sport the manufacturers’ title. It’s a shame that Edo (Mortara) was lacking four points to clinch the drivers’ title in the end. Anyone who saw the way he drove at Hockenheim knows that he would have deserved the title. In any case, he’s champion of the heats in my book! I love the way he fights.” What’s coming up next? “We’re going to seriously celebrate the world championship title and recharge our batteries a little as well. Then we’re going to prepare our two Audi S1 EKS RX quattro cars for the finale in Argentina and try to become team world champions at Rosario on November 26 and 27 as well.!”

Former Champion Solberg so commented: “To be honest, I am sad that the Championship is over for me. I have been fighting all year for my third World RX title and I hoped it would go down to the final round and the team were really motivated. It is so important for me to thank my amazing team - I may be the guy driving the car, but our Citroen DS3 was so fast this weekend, I think one of the fastest on the track. I can only say thank you for all the hours they have spent in the last two weeks, making small changes which could make a difference for us. They have worked so systematically; second here is a great win for the whole PSRX team. Audi will terminate its World Endurance commitment at the end of the 2016 season. Instead Audi is taking up a factory-backedcommitment in the all-electric Formula E racing series. No final decision has yet been made concerning a future involvement in the FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX). In the current 2016 season, DTM factory driver Mattias Ekström in his Audi S1 EKS RX quattro clinched the World Championship title early, competing against numerous factory teams. Up to now, Audi’s involvement has been limited to supporting the private EKS team. The brand is currently evaluating a possible extension of the commitment, the exciting topic of electrification being on the agenda in rallycross racing as well.

The 38 year old Mattias Ekstrom is one of the most experienced drivers that you could meet on track. As many fellow Swedes he always had rallies in his mind participating often in the Rally of Sweden. But Ekstrom is mostly well known for his successes with Audi in the DTM, conquering the title twice, in 2004 and 2007. In 2013 he was back to rally cars with a brief appearance in the Global Rallycross, joining Audi once more one year later in the FIA World Rallycross Championship (he never stopped racing in the DTM all these years). Driving for his own EKS rallycross team he is crowned champion in 2016.

Touring Superleggera was founded in Milan in 1926 and quickly became famous amongst the small world of international designers for both its activities: the “fuoriserie” bespoke bodyworks, and the design and construction of high performance bodyworks for all the major luxury car manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo, Isotta Fraschini, Bmw and Lancia, and the postwar production also for Aston Martin, Ferrari (the majority of production continued until 1952), Lamborghini, Maserati and Pegaso

Turin retrospective tells a story of elegance, perfect proportions, purity and obsessive attention to detail, both through eleven unique motor cars – some of them one-of-a-kind – and through never-seen-before photos, interviews, original sketches and blueprints, scale models and production equipment. A journey tracing the milestones in coach building history whilst projecting the visitor towards the future of the company which brought back the fuoriserie in the 21st century, allowing the knowledgeable collectors to fully express their taste through a uniquely designed car. Visitors to Touring Superleggera’s 90 year retrospective in Turin, will be greeted by two iconic models: the Lamborghini 350 GT and the Gumpert Tornante. Lamborghini 350 GT is the car which in 1963 allowed Ferruccio Lamborghini to enter the exclusive sports car manufacturer realm. Touring Superleggera developed an original design which moved away from the then current fashion, allowing the head lights to characterize the front end of the car rather than the radiator grille. The resulting model was extremely well balanced and elegant contributing to the success of this prestigious Granturismo and the newborn brand. Gumpert Tornante is instead a 2011 project developed for the German sports car manufacturer Gumpert. The German company, specialized in extreme supercars, turned to Touring requesting a design for a two-seater coupe incorporating elegance, spaciousness

and comfort whilst maintaining the car’s extraordinary performance and dynamic qualities. The Tornante was never produced due to the issues which led to Gumpert’s closing. It remains though Touring’s first noteworthy design attempt on a mid-engine layout. Following through, visitors will find 3 iconic models of their time. Firstly the 1956 Maserati 3500 GT (a car delivering high performance thanks to the patented Superleggera lightweight production technique, which consisted in a very light steel tubing frame onto which aluminum panels were fitted). Secondly the 2008 Maserati A8GCS Berlinetta concept (the first Touring Superleggera project since the company resumed activity, epitomising the lightweight, pure, nearly understated sports car concept, in defiance of the current trends). Lastly the Aston Martin DB5 Coupé. Not everyone knows that HM’s Secret Service agent 007’s favorite car was designed in Milan by Touring. It was developed from the DB4 model, also designed in Milan in 1959, with production later moved to the Aston Martin factory under a Superleggera System licensing agreement. The tight cooperation with Aston Martin continued through to 1966 and the DB6, generating numerous body type variations, increases in cubic capacity and engine power. The “Superleggera” patent, which allowed maximum weight reduction in the bodywork of extreme sport cars, allowed Touring to excel in competitions. The company’s prize list includes 11 overall victories in the Mille Miglia race, nine of which in consecutive years. The Superleggera licensing agreement with Aston Martin for the DB4 set a 9 British Pound fee per car for the first 500 automobiles sold, and a 5 Pound fee for the following vehicles … but back then you could buy a DB4 with 2700 British Pounds!

Through the Ferrari 166 and the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 the visitor returns to the golden era of Italian car manufacturing. The 1948 166 begun establishing the Ferrari legend. Felice Bianchi Anderloni, and then his son Carlo Felice, developed the revolutionary designs which contributed to Ferrari’s success. The Ferrari 166 MM on display was originally owned by Gianni Agnelli (who became longtime president of Fiat in 1966) who personally commissioned the lovely two-tone paintjob, the teardrop rear lights and the bonnet belts. The “Avvocato” bought the car in secret, fearing to anger the then Fiat president Vittorio Valletta. How could someone from the Agnelli family (the founders of Fiat) drive a car of the competition? Fiat then acquired Ferrari in 1988. The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS was instead owed by Count Carlo Felice Trossi, a nobleman, renowned pilot and designer, who commissioned new bodywork from Touring. It was to include both Alfa’s new triangular grille, which would soon become its emblem, and twin headlamps, the internal pair being set higher than usual. The nobleman used to live in Biella and asked for the twin headlamp to

overcome the fog that he encountered while traveling to Milan and Torino. The car was delivered with the new body in February 1946. Based on the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport theme is the Villa d’Este. This car represents the peak of the design evolution which begun with the various pre-war Alfa Romeo 6C berlinetta. The car won, via a public vote, the 1949 Gran Premio Referendum at the Concorso d’Eleganza di Villa d’Este, and was given by public acclaim the “Villa d’Este” nickname. Also appearing in its final version on this car, placed in between the low horizontal air intakes, is Alfa’s famous triangular grille, first designed by Touring in 1942, made compulsory by Alfa for every designer, and still today the company’s emblem. With the BMW 328 Berlinetta Aerodinamica Touring harvested the experience gained on aerodynamics to provide the Bavarian car manufacturer a competitive racecar aimed at Le Mans’ fast straights. The body was developed at the Milan’s Politecnico wind gallery, through extensive work on the cabin-boot junction. The result was astounding: at the 1939 24 Hours race the car won the 2 litre category and placed 5th overall. In 1940, having undergone just a few minor changes, the car vanquished the Mille Miglia race. That same year BMW was at the Mille Miglia with 5 cars, four of which made in Germany. The only car with Touring bodywork was the fastest and the only one capable of beating the Alfa Romeo cars despite having

drivers of lesser value. Driver Huschke von Hanstein wrote a personal note to Mr. Bianchi Anderloni thanking him for the victory. Lastly the 2013 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring, a two-seater coupe entirely hand built in Touring Superleggera’s Milan workshop in just 8 units. The car is based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione rolling chassis, chosen for its light yet rigid structure, and utilizes the car’s original powertrain. The Disco Volante is the true essence of Italian fuoriserie: the perfect balance between design quality, sporting details and the pursuit of what is essential. It dictated the success of Touring Superleggera as producer of extraordinary tailor-made cars, helping to revive the traditional Italian coachbuilding heritage. The car is inspired by the 1952 Alfa Romeo C52, a futuristic design which sparked the publics’ imagination gaining it the Disco Volante nickname, Italian for ‘Flying Saucer’. In 2013 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante by Touring debuted at the Geneva Motor Show and won the coveted Villa D’Este Concorso d’Eleganza “Design Award”. Further awards were won at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the St. James’s Concours.

Set against the backdrop of northern Finland, 200 miles into the Arctic Circle, Pure McLaren Arctic Experience will be the only ice driving programme in the world to offer the thrill of the multi-award winning McLaren Sports Series. The programme is designed to give guests an extraordinary experience on snow-covered roads and ice track. Like all Pure McLaren events, the exhilarating programme is tailored to the driver’s needs to help them achieve their goals, whether that’s mastering the infamous Scandinavian flick or building their confidence in challenging driving conditions.


The team of professional driver coaches from Pure McLaren are working with renowned winter testing facility Test World, a leading proving ground based in Ivalo, Finland, to provide one of the most varied ice driving experiences available. Test World’s expansive grounds coupled with Pure McLaren’s professional drive team provide a safe and secure environment to learn and practice in. Guests will experience the multi-award winning McLaren 570S Coupé, tackling a variety of track configurations, encompassing both ice and snow surfaces. The exhilaration continues away from the track with Pure McLaren teaming up with local travel provider Luxury Action to offer an exciting programme of winter activities, including a

husky safari and snowmobile expedition. Accommodation will be provided in the beautiful Jávri Lodge, the former home of the President of Finland. Here guests will enjoy the very best of Finnish hospitality in a remote location nestled within the untamed Lappish wilderness. Built by Urho Kekkonen, the longest serving President of Finland, it is set amongst vast lakes and forests and is in an ideal position for viewing the Northern Lights. The Pure McLaren Arctic Experience will take place from January 15 to February 3, 2017 and offers groups of up to 14 guests a three night stay. The event is open for drivers and non-drivers, McLaren owners and non-owners and will be the first Pure McLaren activity of a busy 2017 schedule.

Designed and engineered in Sweden and born digital, LYNK & CO introduces a new business model, an open API, personalized services, sharing possibilities and the first dedicated app store for cars

LYNK & CO 01 will be followed by 02, 03 and so forth as a full range – reflecting the brand’s idea of simplifying and challenging industry conventions, right down to model names. The 01 is characterized by a strong personality in its design, capturing both its European and Chinese genes, and the latest technology – the heart of which is an ‘always connected’ state, and open application programming interface (API). The LYNK & CO brand and the 01 have been developed to address the needs and preferences of the new global and connected generation of consumers. Its natural habitat is the mega-city and these frantic and culturally diverse places have provided much inspiration. Geely Design Sweden, part of Geely Design Global, has developed the design philosophy and form language for LYNK & CO with support from studios in Shanghai, Barcelona and Los Angeles.


Engineering and technology for the new range has been developed under CEVT (China Euro Vehicle Technology), the shared Geely and Volvo research and innovation center. The new LYNK & CO 01, and each of the forthcoming line-up of LYNK & CO cars, will be based on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) – an advanced modular architecture capable of accommodating many body styles and sizes – which also underpins Volvo’s new compact car range and many upcoming Geely models. As well as its dimensions, CMA is also wholly modular, able to accommodate a wide range of different powertrains, electrical systems, passive and active safety systems and technologies. Thanks to CEVT’s focus on digital simulation, the architecture has been developed with advanced quality and far quicker than conventional automotive structures. The core and heart of the LYNK & CO brand is connectivity. Customers will find a range of connected technologies on offer in the vehicles, all aimed at making life easier. All cars

will come with a large central touchscreen and telematics systems that are always connected to the internet and the car’s own cloud. The car has a share button, enabling the owner to provide others with access to the vehicle via a shareable digital key. Via the LYNK & CO app they control, monitor and share their car from a smartphone – or directly from the car. LYNK & CO sets out from the start to be open to outside innovation and aims to be the first organisation in the world to leverage a complete commercial platform, to bring innovative applications and services to the customer. Working with Microsoft and Alibaba to explore a whole new digital customer infrastructure for the car industry, LYNK & CO will offer new digital ordering, supply, sales and CRM systems and custom applications for user interaction. Ericsson and LYNK & CO have teamed up to create the latest car connectivity cloud. The digital platform will feature an API open to third party developers, which will provide endless opportunities to personalize, enrich and expand the experience.

A very experienced safety team, drawing on expertise and legacy from the Volvo Safety Centre, has developed CMA, the vehicle structure and safety systems. Using a highly advanced front structure, featuring compact engines and a three-legged support arrangement, the amount of crash energy absorbed in a controlled way through the side beams and crash structures is maximized. All LYNK & CO models are developed to meet the latest top rating for China, European and US public domain safety ratings. As well as all its passive safety features, the LYNK & CO 01 will feature Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB), Pedestrian Detection with automatic emergency braking, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to name just some of its active safety systems. The LYNK & CO range, beginning with the

LYNK & CO 01 will be available with a range of ultra-efficient powertrains. The engines will allow for fuel economy figures and performance among the best in their class. Helping to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions further is a state-of-theart seven-speed double-clutch transmission (DCT) developed by CEVT, which will be available across the line-up, alongside a manual gearbox. All models will offer electrified powertrains. Â Developed by highly experienced expert engineering teams both in Europe and China, the LYNK & CO 01 has been optimized to suit global tastes with benchmarks set against the premium and popular compact SUVs of the world. CMA is extremely stiff and the body has been designed from the ground up to minimize noise and vibration levels in the cabin. While the industry traditionally relies heavily on a dealership model, LYNK & CO will interact directly with its customers. LYNK & CO cars will be sold online or in owned stores in strategic retail locations, with fixed and tran-


sparent prices. Cars will be delivered, and picked up for service, directly at the door of the consumer. New solutions for car usage and access will be offered – from traditional ownership and leasing to subscription and sharing-membership. With traditional distribution costs typically in the region of 25 percent of the price of a car, LYNK & CO’s efficient business model will deliver significant savings, reflected in highly competitive pricing. LYNK & CO has abandoned the traditional concept of meager base models and long option lists that create infinite build configurations and costs in manufacturing. Inspired by the fashion and technology sectors, LYNK & CO has replaced “trim levels and option lists” with a simple selection of fully equipped, fixed-price collections themed to meet customer preferences. Caterham Cars has built a variant of its iconic Seven that was seemingly planned in the mid-1960s but never launched – the Caterham Seven Sprint. As though dug up in a time capsule, the retro detailing of the Caterham Seven Sprint will delight Seven purists and provides the perfect scene-setter to the brand’s ‘60 Years of the Seven’ anniversary, which will be celebrated next year

by the same 80hp, threecylinder Suzuki engine installed in Caterham’s entry-level Seven 160 model, the Sprint features a host of nostalgia-soaked features, including a choice of six paint colours that were original British manufacturer colours available in 1966/67. Caterham Cars CEO, Graham Macdonald, said: “We have always prided ourselves on continually developing the Seven during the 44 years we have been custodian of the model. But we never wished to dismiss our heritage either and I know there are plenty of Seven purists and aficionados out there who will really appreciate the level of detail we’ve gone to with the Sprint to resurrect the spirit of those early cars. It’s a car that has been built today, with all the benefits that modern engineering brings with it, but the essence of the swinging ‘60s and is the perfect precursor to our 60th-anniversary celebration in 2017.” The launch of the Sprint heralds the start of Caterham’s ‘60 years of the Seven’ celebrations, which will culminate with a spectacular Caterham festival at Donington Park next summer. To reflect the anniversary further, only 60 Sprints will be destined for the UK and European markets. The Sprint chassis is powder-coated grey, making it period-accurate for a Series 2 Lotus 7, while the suspension and rollover bar are also reminiscent of Colin Chapman’s original.

With flared front wings, polished exhaust silencer and uniquely retro-styled, individual rear lights, the Sprint harks back to the early days of the Seven and the choice of paint colours completes the exterior effect. Wheels will be painted cream and finished with polished hubcaps, while the main bodywork, emblazoned with retro Caterham branding and Sprint logo, is available in original British colours, named by Caterham to reflect their heritage –Cream, Mellow Yellow, Regency Red, Camberwick Green, British Racing Green and Misty Blue. Inside the cockpit, the sepia-toned impression continues, with a wooden-rimmed sports steering wheel and dashboard in wood effect, complete with a classic oOOo instrument layout. The tacho even features red and yellow sectors, in true ‘60s style. Meanwhile, the interior panels and Muirhead Scottish seat upholstery is handstitched in the period style and finished in striking scarlet red. The interior and luggage space are fully carpeted, as befits a ‘60s connoisseur and there are very few concessions to modern life, the main one being the three-pot Suzuki engine, which generates performance good enough to be considered beyond mundane but perfectly capable of a more leisurely application. The Caterham Seven Sprint will be available as a factory-built car only.

Caterham has unveiled a brand new model which features a rather different build process to its usual run of 500 cars a year – the brand’s very first immortalisation in LEGO® form. Technicians from the legendary British sportscar manufacturer have downed their tools and picked up the plastic, teaming up with the equally iconic toy maker to create the first ever LEGO Caterham, due to hit the shelves this October. The plastic bricks, resplendent in Caterham’s typically garish yellow, create the beautifully engineered LEGO Caterham 620R, capable of reaching a heart-racing top speed of 6mph. Originally submitted by fanatic Carl Greatrix to the LEGO Ideas platform, in which fans can submit their ideas for new LEGO sets, the Seven gained the requisite 10,000 votes and the LEGO Ideas Review team selected the 620R to go into production. Consisting of over 770 pieces, including a replica 620R engine and gear stick, the LEGO Caterham stands 10cm tall and 28cm long.
