A portal to another reality

Temproject designed a new store for the Ukrainian clothes brand CHER'17 located on the first floor of a building built in the second half of the 19th century on one of the central streets of Kyiv. The studio was tasked with crea>ng a flagship store that would show the brand's character and raise its status. The space forms its own aesthe>cs, characterized by minimalism, playing with the propor>ons of objects and bold accented colors.

The entrance door leads to the main open space of the apartment. The kitchen was fitted with tall cabinets in wood cladding

that continue the L-shaped space through to the family corner. The carpentry unit that serves the kitchen, conceals a utility room and audio systems. A gray kitchen island with a built-in sink and stove top was positioned in the center of the space. The coved ceilings continue through the kitchen, giving the space a softer feel. The penthouse is surrounded by a glorious 120m² balcony that can be accessed via the kitchen, the living room and the master bedroom. A different function is located at each of the various balcony exits: a jacuzzi is located outside the master bedroom, a water fountain was positioned and visible from the kitchen, and an outdoor kitchen and seating area was positioned by the lounge exit, made of large doors that blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior of the property.

The kitchen overlooks the spacious and welcoming living room with plenty of entertaining space. A meticulously designed free-standing leather sofa by Ellita Living was placed in its center and is appealing from each angle. Behind it, the dining area has been positioned with an elegant design. Here, a functional wall was designed displaying groves in a variety of spacing and concealing the air conditioning outlets behind two concealed doors. A round decorative mirror completes this geometric sophisticated look.

In the master suite, the bed faces the safe room, which is used as a walk-in wardrobe and the exit from the master bedroom leads to the jacuzzi on the balcony. The bedroom includes an en-suite bathroom with glass windows that create a reflection

between the spaces, presenting a much bigger space. The en-suite continues with the same overall color palette, through the use of extra-large 1.5x3m tiles and a Corean cabinet. A pair of globe pendant lights complete the design.

a splash of LIGHT BLUE

Amici Buro presents its recent project: a 75m² apartment with a lot of natural colors and shades in the residential complex Yaroslaviv Hrad in Kyiv.

It looks like concrete, glass blocks, metal and stone, but at the same time it is transparent, simple and clean. This is the impact one feels after a home tour of the apartment. Amici Buro's designers have been committed to creating a tidy living space without cluttered storage space. This can be seen right away from the design of the corridor: light and calm like the other rooms. The hanging steel shelves by Frama, together with the Marea leather sofa and chest of drawers by De Castelli, fit perfectly into the design concept. And the red doors to the ceiling are one of the accent color combinations in the design of the entire project and companions of the chest of drawers. A linen curtain separates the living area from the corridor. If you don't want to separate these spaces, simply push back the curtain and see a two-way mirror on the floor.

At the entrance to the left, behind the wooden paneling, the wardrobe has been placed which includes a storage space and a small laundry room for washing machine and dryer behind a hidden facade. Veneer color is used consistently in every room. The designers emphasized the geometry of the shelves with highlights.

"Lightness was our concern in this project. A clear zoning of space without the installation of heavy partitions has become the main solution to this problem."

The main accent color of the project is light blue and its shades. Thus, the vector of movement in the design was set by the Azul Macaubas stone from the Italian factory Ariostea. In the living room we find it in the hanging shelf placed above the blue sofa to store books, frames and candles.

To emphasize the lightness and graphic nature of the idea, the designers designed the light fixtures in a linear way so as not to

distract attention from the main idea. Linen fabrics, fine-grained beige plaster and dark warm wood became companions of rather cold materials, so the interior turned out to be cozy. Clients needed a separate workplace in order to close, conduct online meetings and not worry about noise, so the designers separated the living room and balcony with a glazing in a burgundy metal profile.

The kitchen top was made in the same stone as the shelf in the living room, which together with the wood are the basis in this room. Clients didn't want bar stools, so the designers divided the island into two parts: an island work area with a stove, built-in extractor fan, and a dining table with chairs by De La Espada. Chrome is the main metal

of the room: the faucet, the chandelier suspended above the dining area and the decorative elements are all chrome. As for the cabinets, they were made of the same wood as the cladding panels. This technique helped to visually hide the cabinets and merge the kitchen with the corridor.

Wood, metal and concrete have become the main materials in the bedroom. The Lago Air Wildwood bed with shelves by Bolzan adds lightness to the room thanks to its thin metal legs. Flos' lighting on either side of the bed cast their brightness onto the drapery behind the bed and act as a reading light. Behind the FEST Amsterdam chair are the same Frama shelves as in the corridor, but in a different configuration and size. A low height chest of drawers for storing bedding with soft cushions is placed next to the glass block.

The designers wanted to provide a sizable bathroom with natural light, so they used a glass block between the bedroom and the bathroom. The floor, walls and shower are covered in white terrazzo stone. The Borghi washbasin by Antonio Lupi has become the

color accent of the bathroom. In support of the sink, a flower bed with dried flowers, in the same finish as the whole room. Another element present to note is the chrome. We find it in the two small wall lamps on either side of the door, in the shower stool, in the faucet and in the mirror. The latter can be rotated on its axis for easy use and doubles as a towel rack. To the opposite side, a built-in wardrobe has been placed behind the toilet covered with the same wooden panels present throughout the apartment.

LIBRARY HOUSE

The house is situated on the edge of a sparse pine forest by the lake Voxsjön, right next to the family’s original home and garden, Villa Skoghem, a forester s residence from the early 20th century. While the north, east and west facades are quite closed from the surroundings with just a few carefully selected outlooks, the south side opens towards the lake. Having different needs and rhythms and at the same time enjoying each other's company and presence, the couple - a ceramicist and a lawyer, wanted a house where they could find peace to work individually without entirely screening each other off. Responding to these requests, Fria Folket projected a house formed by four gable-roof buildings with the centrally located library in the shape of a book gallery. Each building corresponds to its own specific part of the program: east building - cooking and gardening, south building - arts and crafts, west buildinglaw, science and music and the north

building, accommodating the areas for rest and recovery - meditation and self development. Linking the volumes together - thematically as well as systematically - the

library functions as the core and bloodstream of the project. Furthermore, the houses are organised in the order of the sun's movement with the starting point of the house (the entrance) in line with the starting point of the day, in the east. Moving through the house the sun finally rests, just like the house, in the north. The degree of privacy follows the same loop. From the most social spaces, hallway and kitchen, to the most private spaces at the end of the circle. The clockwise movement is encouraged by the placement of the windows providing views towards the surroundings when walking clockwise in opposed to facing the closed bookcase walls when moving counterclockwise.

Four doors, one in each corner of the book gallery, offers access to the little courtyard from all parts of the house, making it easy to move between the inside and outside. The strong square-shaped boundary made up from the bookcases in addition to the transparency of the glassed framing of the courtyard, amplifies the perception of the library extending beyond the climate shell,

programming the courtyard to an open-air reading space. A room defined by its purpose rather than its physical limits. Considering the wide color spectrum of the library the materials of the interior are few and austere. Against the blond palette of white, whitewashed pine and natural pine, the ceramic tiled floor stands out with its warm brick red colour.

In pursuit of sustainability the house has been customised to the families existing furniture in order to reduce the need to buy new and replace. In consequence the iconic Ikea bookcase 'Billy' has played an essential part in determining the measures of the house being the holder of the existing library. With further intention of reducing the environmental footprint the walls and roofs have been constructed free from plastic and insulated with flax fibers according to vernacular traditions of the area. The facade is cladded with untreated heart pine from a local sawmill and the concrete-free foamglas foundation is made from recycled glass. The rainwater from the Aluzinc cladding roof is collected in an underground tank providing the green house with water.

In line with old Nordic building traditions one of the studios has been constructed so that it can be disconnected from the rest of the house in regard to heating. This provides the option to downsize the house when temperature drops. A certain sense of rhythm pervades the house as the grid of the construction articulates in the load bearing glass partitions, manufactured at a local window carpentry. Like bar lines on a piece of sheet music the posts divide the bookshelves like beats in a measure.

FUSION

FOUNDED BY MATTHEW LI AND MAGGY CHEUNG, GRANDE STUDIO DESIGNED A SPRAWLING APARTMENT WITH MORE THAN 600M² THAT SUITS THE CULTURAL BACKGROUND OF THE MALE OWNER, LOCATED ON THE HILL IN SHA TIN, HONG KONG.

Grande Studio projected the mansion with midcentury European designs such as diamond shapes and rounded corners, also infusing smart living systems and furniture

to blend classical aesthetics into modernity. The hall of the apartment has a clean and simple design marked by a contrast

between the white of the walls and the black of the entrance door. The same contrast continues in the flooring with black and white tiles. On the left, an unobtrusive door flush with the wall opens onto a small dressing room, while on the right, a comfortable black bench completes the design.

The copious rectangular living and dining room is the first spot after the main entrance door which enjoys the magnificent landscape view outside the floor-to-ceiling window. In terms of design, fusing the male owner's living habits and culture into this living space, a medieval-aged European design style is used with a fireplace, huge and luxurious pendants, molding lines and different materials to emphasize on the variety of textures. The pendant which is located at the center is composed of several maple leaves which become a meaningful emblem to the owner of his hometown. Behind the dining room is an open bar which also made with wood and rattan furniture and metal pendants allows to have a little chit-chat while preparing meals.

The wall of the living room hides the door to the service bathroom: it has been inserted in the same way as that of the closet in the hall. To stay coherent with the design of the whole apartment, the bathroom is covered in the same aesthetics with molding lines and bronze handles, as well as the use of the same tiles on the flooring, emphasizing the pattern which is consistent with the hall.

Since the family has a great interest in the cooking lifestyle and quality of living, the design team rearranged the planning of an initial bedroom in order to leave out spaces for a bigger open kitchen. Separate from a classy bronze-framed sliding door, the kitchen is finished in a U-shaped plan to increase storage, and a signature feature on the flooring design, which is using Medieval European style rhombus tiles in

dark blue and white to create a contrasting effect under a classical and soft setting. Another feature is a Western-style faucet specially designed for this family. As they have a great indulgence in pasta making, this facility could allow a more hustle-free cooking experience. A pair of pendant lamps above the kitchen island and decorative objects complete this elegant design.

Passing the kitchen, at the end of the corridor on the right, a private study room has been placed. It’s covered in neutral aesthetics and equipped with a dark blue overhead display shelf cabinet touched with geometric metal (it is also set as a feature wall of this room).

Without any barriers and doors, you enter the independent guest room with an ensuite. The design includes a softer light beige color palette with timber accents, composed of a study desk, molding line design on walls and bronze-made handles,

the room has turned to a quiet and serene resting place. In additional, bed linens add a cosy feel to the room.

On the other side of the living and dining room is the owner's daughter's bedroom. In line with the daughter's growth over time, flexible furniture is mainly used to implement the space and increase the convenience to rearrange the room. As in all rooms, the large windows allow natural light to pass through making it well lit. In case you need more privacy, ultra opaque curtains have been hung.

Next to the daughter's bedroom is the master suite introduced by wooden stairs and European-style walling to keep consistent with the living and dining room. An independent closet is located at the side with grey-blue full-height cabinets on two sides, the glass door design is also a more convenient solution and expands the space sense, combined with a tiny dresser, the

space becomes sufficient for the owner. The bedroom is covered in minimalist aesthetics and equipped with wooden flooring. Composed of a bench, a fabric grey-beige headboard and an oil painting above, two dressers on both sides are touched with an accent of bronze, layering up the entire design yet, remain its serenity to the design. Besides, the ensuite entrance

is made with a white sliding door to hide the room when needed, while the design is relatively modern with a material palette of tiles, glass and bronze for handles and faucet to touch up the space. Although darkened windows have been installed, the designers have included venetian blinds to ensure total privacy but, in the meantime, keeping the environment lit.

NESTLED IN THE HEART OF SOUTH KENSINGTON IN LONDON, TALA FUSTOK STUDIO WAS ENTRUST-ED TO DESIGN A CALM CLASSIC RESIDENTIAL SPACE TO COMPLEMENT THE OWNERʼS LIFESTYLE.

eighbouring Hyde Park and on the fourth floor of the Victorian mansion block, the southwest facing four-bedroom apartment is inspired by the owner’s European and North African travels. Soft colours reflect a sunset setting, whilst contrasting stony textures and earthy coatings of fabric create a harmonic tension.

Studio founder Tala Fustok and her team executed important structural work to open up the living and dining room arenas, as well as merging two bedrooms to create a large master and dressing room, forming a 252m² London pied-a-terre dusted with a collection of contemporary artwork from around the capital.

Exuding understated luxury, the paired back entrance boasts an old venetian mirror, Béton Brut’s woven chair, an antique mirrored niche housing a metal vide poche, and a singular plinth vase focal point by M.A.H Gallery and Flow Gallery. The living room of the apartment radiates a timeless elegance: a travertine fireplace echoes that of the dining space with smoky mirroring by The Antique Mirror Company; cloudy patina drapes the walls, sculptural pieces by M.A.H Gallery pepper the space, whilst a Tim Page circular shaggy rug of varying pile height brings extra texture. A beautiful layer of sheer by Lizzo dresses the space, whilst bespoke bleached plywood, brass and timber adds that rustic nod. One particular feature to note in this space are large curved walls between the living zone and the adjacent dining quarter integrate shelving to nest future finds. Besides, softly illuminating the objects at twilight, this effortlessly becomes a light room divider.

In the dining room boasts of an unusual centrepiece by Vessel Gallery, a London brick ivory-painted fireplace, and a 1970s Italian vintage travertine table along-side a snug sofa for casual dining. Tala Fustok opened up the adjacent kitchen space through the introduction of double arched doors, whilst timber cabinetry and brass

elements add contrast whilst maintaining a relaxed setting.

The powder room is covered in a dusty pink and houses a matching pink Kast concrete sink and vintage mirror sourced from The Lillie Road London.

Enriched with subtle tones balanced with deep indulgent hues, the apartment carries

an air of savviness, depth and intrigue with layers of juxtaposed texture and lightflooded rooms. To create an energetic boost, Tala Fustok played confidently with bold statements to build a backdrop for artwork, vintage furniture and simple furnishings to enhance the calming powers of this soothing sanctuary.

A bespoke 1960s-inspired bed takes centre stage within the master bedroom, entirely upholstered in dusty pink velvet with layers of linen by Larusi and Society Limonta. Above the bed sits a tapes-try found in one of Tala’s most treasured London galleries, Schmid McDonagh, whilst a neighbouring stone fireplace maintains the earthy nature throughout the space, adorned with a bespoke mirror by French creator Christophe Gaignon. An open dressing area is lit by a PINCH fabric pendant piece hovering over a bespoke leather, plywood island.

The primary suite leads into a Moroccaninspired master bathroom, it's also of the dusty pink and includes a bespoke travertine sink with Watermark taps and zellige Moroccan tiles in the shower.

Tala Fustok Studio’s work oozes opulence, theatre and self-indulgence, through Tala’s use of rich materials and the construction of hidden passages that transform everyday spaces. She brings back the comfort of the classic whilst championing contemporary design.

Alexander &CO. has transformed a five-bedroom house into a contemporary, materially rich and performative family dwelling with ocean views in Sydney.

Located on the cliff, with a breathtaking view of the ocean, the 1990’s concrete framed house had to be fundamentally replanned. It was poorly planned

and was dislocated from its views, its gardens and its room logics. The client, a young professional family, has required that the house provide for their children and the functional engineer of family life. The facades are white and textural, a backdrop onto which flowing green planting is contrasted. The concrete chassis of the old building is made more material and curves are added to the view corner doors. it is a softer, more approachable version of what it was, notwithstanding that its 90’s mystique is not altogether abolished. It becomes something of a Mediterranean inspired monolith in draping green.

Inside, the design vernacular is inspired by the client’s European Story of Origin, the practicalities of family life and the ocean adjacency. Ceiling height constraints lead to ensure that the finishes and ceiling details are focal. New steel beams support larger concrete openings within the plan and are dressed in timber to make them purposeful. Existing masonry walls have required to play within structural constraints, with room dimensions taking on careful geometries. The ground floor includes all the social areas, crossing a long corridor, on the left

we find respectively: the living room, the dining area, the kitchen with the breakfast nook opening onto the rear garden and pool, while at the end it has been placed the rumpus.

The spacious living area includes Camaleonda sofa by B&B Italia which looks out across the ocean waves. A colourful rug with abstract shapes and a couple of triangular marble coffee tables add the fun and graphic look to the ambiance. Ke-Zu’s LZF Lola table lamp and Sancal’s Remnant orange armchair contribute to the diversity of the design.

The formal dining room is divided from the living only by a small wall containing a double-sided fireplace. Neutral hues have been applied throughout the room. The cream tones of the carpet and the dining table by Zuster add elegance to the space. Following the geometric traces of the living room, the painting ‘I am Bird Now II’ by

Suzanna Vangelov together with the playful dining chairs by Arflex create a right contrast with the black and, on the other hand, they match the frame of the path. Edra's Favela armchair in wood adds an element of surprise to the corner of the space, paired with a ceramic stool by Alison Frith.

An expansive kitchen is located at the heart of the ground floor. All the cabinetry is made from warm-hued American oak, while panels of a paler European oak were laid across the ceiling. To accentuate further them, the designers have included the ceiling lights in a burnished brass feature. Jagged-edged pieces of Grigio Firma, Grigio Lana and Carrara marble were set into the floor. While Bianco Carrara marble was selected for the benchtop and splashback.

With a minimalist design, the cosy breakfast nook backs onto a curved window. The only protagonists are a table by CDF Studio and the custom banquette crafted using the same American oak veneer seen in the kitchen joinery.

Two arched doors at the front of the kitchen grant access to the garden with an alfresco seating area. Next to it, a new swimming pool was added in an excavation pit that had previously been created in the home's driveway. Its shape nods to the architectural style of P&O – an offshoot of modernism that was popular in 1930s Sydney and drew on the streamlined curves of Pacific and Orient-line cruise ships.

In front of the entrance to the dining area, the stairs leading to the second floor have been placed. The stairs balustrade is by JP Finsbury, while the stairs are crafted from Precision Flooring solid oak. A Yamagiwa Mayuhana II oval floor lamp by Toyo Ito is also pictured by the stairs. Spaces become slightly more muted on the floor above where we find five bedrooms, family bathroom, ensuite and robe and roof access to the upper floor. A subtle, consistent palette threads its way through each bathroom. The family bathroom features Casa White Carrara wall tiles, and Surface Gallery Sleek Grey Tumbled tiles on the floor. While in the powder room, the majestic sink is covered in Emerald quartzite. The design of both ambiances is completed by wall lights and Astra Walker faucets.

The parent's bedroom was designed to be a quiet and contemplative space offering ocean views from all angles through a large curved window. The walls are rendered in concrete while the bed frame and

its headboard are made of light wood to bring warmth into the room.

To be in keeping with the design of the room, gray terrazzo and marble have been used to cover the surfaces in the private bathroom, contrasting with the gray mosaic

floor pattern. Although the ensuite is well lit, a large window has been placed between it and the bedroom to give an effect of continuity. Unlike the other bathrooms, here the details are in black like the taps, lighting finishes and fixtures.
