The KYOGO brand was launched in 2017 by the Kaji Nishijin Textile Manufacture, established in Kyoto for more than 150 years. Specialised in the weaving of Buddhist monks’ costumes and decorative fabrics for the most influent temples in Japan, silk threads are specifically woven with gold and silver threads to recreate extremely delicate and precise designs. To develop further its legacy, KYOGO’s unique technique was created through the mastery of the ancestral Nishijin Textile technique, resulting in the creation of genuine and innovative interior fabrics.
KYO-GO.COM INFO@KYO-GO.COM
Nishijin Textile is a traditional Japanese weaving technique born in Kyoto more than 1200 years ago, recognised as one of the best by the Imperial Court due to its preciseness and high quality. Passed down from generations as a high-grade representative technique of Japanese craft, precious threads are dyed before being woven in order to implement several designs into the fabric. The weaving process is very rigorous, from planning to designing, as well as yarn dyeing, rolling, warping, heddling, and processing gold and silver threads. A precise process for a unique fabric.
Our specific and complex technique allows us to produce exceptional and rare fabrics with precious threads, such as gold, or platinum. Its preciseness and finesse results in amazing light variation effects and incredible 3D designs for a deep and stunning immersion. KYOGO is presenting today four collections developed with this fantastic technique, to meet the highest expectations of contemporary and audacious interior design projects.

LATEST NEWS Minimalistic background French 2D's design for the renovation and addition to an existing building in Boston takes into account its history and the unique position it holds within its context. The current renovation maintains the side entrance and creates three loft-style flats, entered from the short side of the building, while maintaining the ghosts of previous entrances along the building's original frontage. The third floor is given a saw-toothed mohawk, with its profile facing the elevated highway and roads beyond, while the short side of the building maintains a straight-faced integration among its more traditional neighbors. www.french2d.com

The Ruins side table was born from the Ruins console table. This is another beautiful piece that infuses the classic culture into Bessa's collections and that was inspired by the richness of ancient ruins. The dented brass on the Ruins side table reinforces, in a more subtle fashion, Ruins console table's reference to Greek aesthetics. www.bessadesign.com

Giant Planted Pergola Construction has begun on an innovative redevelopment of the Toranomon-Azabudai district of Tokyo to complete in March 2023. It is Heatherwick Studio’s first project in Japan to go into construction. Working with a complicated, irregular-shaped plot spanning more than eight hectares, the studio has sought to bring harmony and to create a distinctive identity that is particular to Tokyo. The team devised a pergola-like system scaled up to district proportions to organise and unify many different elements of various sizes. In this way, the design allows for significant green space both at ground level and climbing up the podium buildings, without sacrificing connectivity to the ground. Echoing the natural forms of the project’s valley setting, the undulating structure rises like a gently sloping hillside before puncturing the ground to allow natural light to pour deep into the basement retail zones. www.heatherwick.com

Subtle shades of green OKHA’s has a new interior project, Clifton 301! A seasonal two-bedroom apartment in a sophisticated contemporary complex in South Africa, with a panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The architecture firm SAOTA designed the complex with deliberately pared-down, monochromatic interior shells, meanwhile OKHA took care of decoration and designed key items of bespoke handmade furniture throughout the apartment. For the internal colour palette OKHA used light shades of green with delicate natural tonalities that reference the local landscape. Table Mountain’s famous granite, fynbos and dappled woods are evoked throughout the apartment in a rich, raw palette of natural timbers, stones and metals, which are contrasted with plush velvets and linens on the walls, floors and furniture coverings, resulting in what Court refers to as a contemporary “quiet opulence”. www.okha.com
The dining table, barstools and server are hewn from carbon-stained wire brushed Ash timber, also used in the frame of signature OKHA “Port” mirror, which, with its copper framed recessed mirror carries a nautical tone of a ship’s circular windows. 34 | G&G _ Magazine

LAURA GONZALEZ
“I really enjoy seeing all that creativity at work.”
At 37, architect Laura Gonzalez is already well-known for working her magic across Paris, and for the past two years has been spreading her wings overseas, stamping her “reworked classical” style on a whole host of restaurants, bars, hotels and stores. No-one else combines fabrics, motifs, materials, colours and eras quite like this bold young architect, resulting in a thoroughly unique signature style. And as Gonzalez herself explains, “I love
adding a plethora of details, ensuring there’s always something of interest, no matter where the gaze falls.” Her love for
mixing and matching became clear the second she unveiled her first project as a freshly qualified architect, aged just 26. The project in question was the Bus Palladium, a shining star of the Parisian night scene, which she chose to refurbish with a pot-pourri of no fewer than 35 wallpapers, furnishing the place with vintage finds and simultaneously dragging the brass fixtures and fittings 48 | G&G _ Magazine
kicking and screaming into the 21th century. What was to become her signature style has since been further enriched over the years, fueled by numerous collaborations with some of France’s very best craftsmen, including marble masons, cabinetmakers, glass makers, glass blowers, mosaic specialists and lacquerers. Laura Gonzalez is currently busy working on a new brand project that sits just perfectly with her Latin sense of exuberance: renovating a mansion in the Vexin to create what she calls a “living showroom”. It’s a place where she intends to welcome clients, craftsmen, chefs, journalists, in a space where she will display vintage finds - hunting for vintage pieces is one of her passions alongside her new brand furniture range, featuring sofas, lights and tables. “My
furniture is very “me” everything is bespoke, you can choose the colour of a chair, combine an endless number of fabrics on a fireside chair...”.

The Moai, also known as the Great Heads or the Naoki, are 887 colossal statues in stone located on Easter Island. These beautiful creations are wrapped in mystery and there are several theories around their existence. For some, the Moai were an homage to the ancestors and the gods. For others, especially the Moai that have "hats" (Pukao), served as lightning rods. What is certain is that the incidence of lightning on the island is high, and at night or on days of low light, the Moai are illuminated when charged with lightning energy. The Moai are one of the most striking cultural manifestations and served as inspiration for Bessa to create a limitededition piece. A creation that preserves the mysterious stories and unique memories of a civilization that we can only imagine. www.bessadesign.com

Alex Brokamp Currently the 27-yearold Alex Brokamp is in a master’s degree program in environmental design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Many of his products relate to workday functional objects that fade into the landscape: speed bumps, shipping palettes, a laundry line draped in garments, food delivery truck graphics. Brokamp snatches these inspirations from the jaws of banality and reinterprets them with charm.
“I think there’s a blue collar aesthetic to my design.”
If one design sums up Brokamp’s direction, however, it is his Collate coffee table, selected for the ICFF Studio showcase at the 2019 NYCxDesign festival. He used a CNC router to gouge concentric swirls into the aluminum top, “letting the production process create the piece,” he explained. “He is a very positive example of young American designers who bridge technical knowledge with simple forms and a sense of lightheartedness in their work,” said Jerry Helling, who nominated Brokamp. “He could almost be the love child of Jaime Hayon and Jasper Morrison.”

Rosie Li
“With the proliferation of Instagram and other social media and being able to see anything, everything out there, it gets to be a little much… Your mind just goes off into a million directions. But I find the role of the designer is to be almost like a sieve to filter out these coulda-shoulda-maybes in an effort to distill your idea into its purest form. At the end of the day I always ask myself: What are you trying to do here? What is the clear vision?”
In 2011, Rosie Li, then a senior at Rhode Island School of Design presented her thesis project to a group of faculty and guest critics. The work was a triangular sconce inspired by the artist Frank Stella, and one of the critics, the lighting designer Lindsey Adelman, was so impressed that she snapped a photograph and sent it to Jason Miller, a designer and producer in New York. “That launched my career in lighting,” Li, 30, recently recalled. Miller not only produced the lamp, called Stella, through his company, Roll & Hill, but put Li on his staff. Today, she works independently in Brooklyn designing and producing decorative light fixtures, many with botanical themes like palm fronds, gingko blossoms or laurel leaves. Her latest collection, Bubbly, which is made in collaboration with glass blowers, consists of giddy clusters of solid and illuminated spheres. Li’s ornamental style looks spontaneous but has its roots in a rigorous analytical process. 60 | G&G _ Magazine
“I would describe what we do as contemporary work that’s a little more avant-garde than what’s generally available in showrooms aimed at decorators.”
Kin & Company
In 2017 Kira de Paola launched the design studio Kin & Company with her first cousin Joseph Vidich. The first goal reached was an exhibition at WantedDesign - here Paola and Joseph folded a single piece of industrial sheet metal in two different directions to create a chair that props against a wall or, with the metal bent the other way, forms a side table. Now the cousins have returned to their painterly, art-school roots, experimenting with patina to produce various shades of rust and verdigris, and combining steel and stone, as in their Crescent table, where the two materials interlock. Bailey Fontaine When Bailey Fontaine arrived in New York after studying product design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he soon discovered straight lines creeping into his work. So, today his day job is as chief caster for Fernando Mastrangelo, a leader in that rarefied world, who builds functional objects out of sand, salt, coal and candy. On his own time, Fontaine explores the materiality of concrete, rusted steel and paper clay in works like a floor lamp with the gnawed, attenuated appearance of a Giacometti sculpture, or a dining table with thin cement layers stacked and curved like sheets of rolled dough.
“I’m really interested in this heavy, Brutalist sort of design language but also accentuating that sharp language with some circular cutouts you might not expect to see.”

“We try our best to treat each material as democratically as possible and see it not for its value or rarity but more for its visual quality and where we’re drawing inspiration from.” Green River Project After founding an ad hoc art gallery five years ago near the Green River in the upstate New York town of Hillsdale, Ben Bloomstein, 31, and Aaron Aujla, 32, shifted locations to Brooklyn but kept the name for their new art space and design gallery: Green River Project. Trained as artists, the men do custom furnishings and fittings for the interiors of private clients. They also design their own products - an ambitious four collections per year - which they sell out of a gallery in Manhattan’s East Village. The collections are created from diverse materials, each eloquent in its own way. They include African mahogany, aluminum (inspired by the Chrysler Building) and bamboo (a tribute to Aujla’s South Asian ancestry). The latest collection - the first of 2019 - consists of stools made of coffee-stained Douglas fir upholstered in patterned corduroy by the fashion artist Emily Bode, a frequent collaborator. There are also fir, oak and mahogany cabinets filled with objects by artist-friends. The gallery environment recreates the atmosphere of a 1970s club in the Sixth Arrondissement of Paris.
#PARISDESIGNWEEK Harold The Brooklyn design studio called Harold is something of a throwback, and not just because its name evokes a midcentury, pipe-smoking man in a cardigan. Founded in 2015 by Reed Hansuld (an artisanal furniture maker from Ontario) and Joel Seigle (grew up in suburban Chicago and studied industrial design at Pratt Institute), who each had a Grandfather Harold, the company turns out racks for holding record albums, ceramic planters for low-tech greenery and many wood objects, including rolling filters made from maple shavings Seigle’s Harold founded a lumber business. Three years ago, the men started Liberty Labs Foundation, a nonprofit that gives young designers, artists and furniture makers affordable studio space in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn. Everyone has use of a workshop modeled on an old-fashioned woodshop. “It’s the same technology that’s been around for 100 years,” Seigle said. But yes, they also have a 3D printer.
“Reed and I were roommates when we started this company, and we started by making things that we needed personally… We’re part of that generation that knew life before computers, which is weird to think about.” 64 | G&G _ Magazine

IN THE ICE: Icehotel – a world famous hotel and an art exhibition made of ice and snow. Founded in 1989, it is reborn in a new guise every winter, in the Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi – 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. The Torne River, the arts, and creating a setting for life-enriching moments are at the heart of it all. This is a permanent structure that includes luxury suites, each with private relax and bathroom, and art suites, all sculptured by selected artists. As well as a large ice bar that serves champagne, and an ice gallery. This ice experience can be visited yearround and is cooled by solar panels during the summer months. Icehotel is all about ice and creativity – with art as the result. That’s why the artists invited to take part are not required to have worked with ice before – they’re selected from among those who send in their ideas based on originality and creating it in real natural ice would pose a new challenge. Each year some 40 artists are taking part in Icehotel. The notion that several weeks’ hard work and months of planning and preparation culminate in something that only exists for a few months is in some respects a bittersweet feeling. 76 | G&G _ Magazine

Externally the spherical nut shape is certainly well adapted to life in the forest. A sphere distributes any impact stress throughout the skin and resists puncture or cracking. Like a ping pong ball or a nut, it’s light with a tough skin. The suspension ropes which stretch also absorb some of the force. The suspension concept also reflects biomimicry. The network or web of ropes used to tether the sphere vertically and laterally function much like a spider web – a very strong and resilient distributed structure indeed.
As Waitomo is full of underground caverns, the owner was inspired to build underground with a theme, so the Hobbit Motels were developed. These motels are bermed beneath a hill where sheep and a donkey wander for grazing. For clients' comfort, the interiors are scaled to regular size so no bending is necessary, while from the exterior, these units look like a perfect Hobbit Hotel.
IN THE HOBBIT MOTELS: Hobbit Motels of Woodlyn Park couldn’t miss in this selection! Built underground Hobbit Motels containing natural fiber curtains and some timbers reflecting the natural scent of their origins, these are unique motels in the world! Each unit features a suite with queen bed, living area and kitchenette. There is a separate bedroom with 4 oversized single beds. In total, 78 | G&G _ Magazine
each motel can sleep up to 6 people making it ideal for visiting families or friends. There is also a large bathroom with shower and toilet facilities. The kitchenette features an electric hob, refrigerator and microwave allowing you to warm simple meals or have a hearty breakfast. Address: 1177 Waitomo Valley Rd. - 3977, Otorohanga (New Zealand )
The approach to conserving the interiors would involve a minimalist approach, using plain furnishing. Often the furniture has been built into the structure to maintain a continuity of form and function with the original building. Given the irregular surfaces, if we introduced free standing furniture it would be unstable, and feel out of context..

ICONIC TOWER LW DUBAI TEAM PRESENTS A SPLENDID INTERNAL SCHEME FOR THE NEW RAFFLES HOTEL IN THE SOUTH-EASTERN CHINESE CITY OF SHENZHEN.
“WE WERE CHALLENGED TO WORK AROUND THE VIEWS, WE WANTED TO INTEGRATE THEM INTO THE DESIGN RATHER THAN BLOCK THEM OUT.” - PIA SEN

Located in One Shenzhen Bay, Raffles Hotel occupies the top floors of an 80-storey tower, a symbol that reflects the pace of growth and modernisation of the city. The LW Design team, headed up by Pia Sen, was tasked with creating a contemporary interior that pays respect to the Chinese culture in which it is set. Evident throughout is the connection between the spectacular views over the bay
and the design. Visitors are transported from the double volume ground floor entrance straight up to the Sky Lobby on the 34th floor. Here, the majesty of the Pearl River Delta and the rich dĂŠcor blend seamlessly with the feeling of coming home. Materials used to create the look include warm timber, decadent marble and metal details, paired with softer accents.
The 168 rooms and suites are accessed by corridors that showcase interesting artefacts. Once inside the rooms, the interiors are based on neutral shades, with pops of natureinspired colour featured in the loose rugs, cushions and quilts. The eye is drawn to the silkscreen wall panels that adorn the walls. Every room contains the distinctive Raffles ‘library’ and presents the traditional cultural elements. 88 | G&G _ Magazine
Setting a new standard for spas within the Raffles group, the design of this multipurpose space is breath taking. The spa is divided into distinct zones for quiet and active pursuits, defined by changes to the colour scheme from dark to lighter. The spa includes a reception area, 6 treatment rooms, changing rooms complete with saunas and steam rooms, a gym and a magnificent indoor infinity pool that looks out over the bay.
Bronze, warm tones, herringbone patterned oak floors and varying wall coverings work together to make a homely environment, albeit a very opulent one. Loose watermark rugs, candles and soft cushions in lucky shades of green support the residential feel.
“THE SPA HAS AN UNUSUAL, UNEXPECTED AMBIENCE OF A LUXURY HOME. A PLACE TO TRULY IMMERSE IN RELAXATION.” - PIA SEN

The hotel includes RUI Lounge that provides a light and elegant setting for an informal meeting, leisurely lunch or an opportunity to relax over a drink with friends. While at night, RUI Lounge features an exclusive experience, complete with the finest champagnes, finely created mixology, wines from around the world, and heavenly music from our live pianist. A mix of materials engages the eye, creating texture and warmth. Here too, elements of contemporary China remind visitors of the hotel’s location.
“THE REAL EMPHASIS THROUGHOUT THIS PROJECT WAS TO CREATE AN AMBIENCE WHICH REFLECTS EVERYTHING A GUEST WOULD WISH FOR IN THEIR HOME, WHILST ADDING THE CONVENIENCES THAT A HOTEL BRINGS... AND BEING ABLE TO DRAW ON THE SURROUNDING BEAUTY GAVE US A CLEAR DIRECTION FROM THE START.” - PIA SEN
Patterned white marble, inset handmade rugs and light timber planks adorn the floors of the venue where guests dine seated in sofas or comfortable chairs along the expansive window wall.
Further up, on level 34, the Lobby leads into an all-day dining restaurant that follows a gently Chinese theme. Here, a black lacquered door with a duck egg blue shagreen inset creates an impressive entrance. Food counters are placed along the opposite wall to create an organic flow, whilst light bronze metal screens create the illusion of semi-privacy.
In the Japanese signature restaurant, LW Dubai used the contemporary design with dark colors. The show kitchen wall is clad in rose-gold toned metal with an embossed cherry blossom motif, and accompanies the black marble counters. Along the window wall, guests are seated on black benches upholstered in a luxurious rust velvet,
influenced by Japanese autumnal maple leaves. The restaurant offers a Japanese culinary adventure of elegant kaiseki, premium steak, sushi and sashimi served with the freshest ingredients and meticulous attention to detail by our Japanese chef. The iconic hotel Le Sirenuse is nestled into the rocky hillside, located in the centre of Positano and overlooking the Amalfi Coast; it's an unbeatable oasis of peace and silence providing the most breathtaking views and the ideal paradise destination.
Candlelit dinner
102 | G&G _ Magazine
Le Sirenuse opened in 1951, when four Neapolitan siblings, the Marchesi Aldo, Paolo, Anna and Franco Sersale turned their summer house in Positano into a charming hotel, overlooking the bay of Positano. Today the 58-room resort is considered one of Italy’s leading seaside luxury hotels, and has a long history of being thought of as one of the most romantic hotels in the world. Perhaps one of its most enchanting elements is the four hundred candles, which are individually lit each evening at the Michelin starred La Sponda restaurant. The rooms, all very different from one another, are decorated with antique and contemporary furniture coming from Europe and the East, following the eclectic style which is so characteristic of their charm. Almost all rooms, suites and junior suites look out over the bay of Positano. Most have a private terrace or balcony and all have white-washed walls, vaulted ceilings and hand-made tiles on the floors. The bathrooms are made of marble and hand made tiles. 104 | G&G _ Magazine
In the bathrooms, in addition to 100% cotton towels and robes by Frette, the hotel offers its luxurious "Eau d'Italie" bath and body products. The "Eau d'Italie" line of products and well known fragrances were created and are still produced by the Sersale family for Le Sirenuse. While the perfumes are sold in selected boutiques worldwide, this hotel is the only one in the world using the "Eau d'Italie" products as amenities.
The light Mediterranean cuisine of Michelinstarred La Sponda restaurant is based on fresh local ingredients and inspired by the great culinary traditions of Naples and the Amalfi Coast. Infused by the leisured elegance of Positano’s dolce vita, La Sponda is illuminated, in the evening, by four hundred candles that create an unforgettable atmosphere. So too Champagne & Oyster Bar enjoys breathtaking views over Positano and sumptuously furnished and candlelit. It is the ideal place for a glass of champagne millésimé or a cocktail made to perfection, some oysters, shellfish, and fish carpaccios, all accompanied by the seducing music of the 106 | G&G _ Magazine
resident dj. In addition, Le Sirenuse predisposes Franco’s Bar - a stylish panoramic al fresco terrace that tips its hat to a golden age of fine cocktails and quality champagne. The bar's fresh and striking decor and contemporary artworks, commissioned from a raft of local and international talent, pay homage to the late Franco Sersale, whose careful design curation is still evident in every corner of the hotel. The result is a contemporary al fresco bar with an old-fashioned, quality-first drinks menu; a place for amore, for friends, for a post-swim aperitif, for quiet contemplation of all that beauty.
A striking neo-Baroque fountain that translates a fluid artist’s sketch into fragile permanence, the marker-pen gestures of a Dada-esque poet inspired by pop songs and other cultural echoes, a beach-bar string curtain ennobled by its use of antique Venetian glass beads, a set of tables and chairs hand-painted by a Milanese designer in a quintessential shade of blue. These are just some of the details commissioned by Le Sirenuse’s owners, Antonio and Carla Sersale, for a bar that is also a collective work of art.
108 | G&G _ Magazine
Le Sirenuse offers also Pool Terrace surrounded by lemon trees and flowers that serves also as Bar & Restaurant. At the bar tables, overlooking the sea and shaded by a bamboo awning, the Pool Terace pool offers
a peaceful atmosphere to unwind. From the Pool Terrace, or from a dedicated stairway accessible from the corridors, it's possible to access to le Sirenuse Spa designed by the renowned Italian architect, Gae Aulenti.
Address: Via Cristoforo Colombo, 30 - 84017, Positano (Italy)
Gae Aulenti's design, that makes use of teak wood, white marble and stainless steel, steps away from the Moorish architecture prevalent in the hotel and creates a modern and essential space. The Spa includes a Sauna, an ice room and a granite Steam bath.

TEA FRAG RAN CE Mecanoo completed the interior design project for the Place hotel in Taipei’s Nangang district, a popular touristic destination thanks to growth of the particular Pouchong tea.
112 | G&G _ Magazine
The Place, like its name, brands itself as a hotel that creates a unique visitor experienced that embodies the specific identity of each place. This specificity of place is central to Mecanoo’s “People, Place, Purpose” design philosophy, which emphasizes users, a holistic understanding of the social, historical and physical context, and a response to current and future building functions. In keeping with this design philosophy, Mecanoo’s interiors for The Place hotel reinterprets the historic city’s rich streetscape. The hotel is located on the 10th to 20th floors of a mixed-use building. Visitors pass through a ground-floor lobby and arrive at the 10th floor check-in / lounge / dining area, which functions like a Taiwanese tea house. Traditionally, these tea houses are social spaces, not unlike European cafes and bars. Likewise, The Place’s welcoming lobby allows guests to check in, work, rest, dine and socialise. These services are “highlighted” in a
contemporary bright blue linear element, creating a strong contrast with the warm oak walls. This element contains a buffet counter, flexible stepped seating, and several one-step self-check-in points. As in a tea house, hospitality and socialisation are central. Social spaces should have an energetic buzz without becoming overcrowded; depending on the time of day, the size of the lobby can be flexibly adjusted with a system of curtains. Only half of the space is open in the late evenings; when the hotel is fully booked, the lobby can extend to the adjacent multipurpose room. Curtains also add a rich experiential layer to the project; in the 10th floor dining area, overlapping layers of fabric with different degrees of transparency selectively reveal views. The ca. 60m x 4m printed image is a “digitalised history” – what appears as a historic image from a distance becomes a pattern of 1s and 0s when seen up close.

“For each assignment, our goal is to seek out the secret of the location to create a unique design that strengthens the distinct identity of the context. By contrasting old and new, mixing of west and east, the hotel becomes a contemporary interpretation of a traditional art form. For the interior design of The Place hotel in Taipei’s Nangang district, Mecanoo drew inspiration from the local tea production tradition. The tea industry has contributed to shaping the area’s landscape and history and is part of what makes Nangang unique.”
While the lobby is a tea house, the hotel corridors and rooms embody the tea production process. The corridor carpet pattern evokes the terraced tea plantation landscape. Stepping into the rooms, the chevron wood floor pattern echoes the woven bamboo baskets for drying tea leaves. The colour palette is natural wood with Pouchong tea-coloured accents. In total, the hotel includes 179 compact guestrooms that vary between 20 m2 and 43 m2. The Place is primarily a business hotel, with guests coming for trade fairs and shows. Storage space and computer working stations are therefore conveniently provided. There are seven types of rooms, each with a compact layout and designed to appear as spacious as possible. Laith Abdel Hadi, an interior designer based between Dubai, London, and Saudi Arabia and known for his unpredictable design projects, created the interiors of contemporary residence in London.
The harmonious atmosphere 118 | G&G _ Magazine
“My client's request was to create a curated space with a feel that pieces were collected over time.” - Laith Abdel Hadi
This contemporary residence enhances perfectly the balance between bright colors, strong contrasts and the elegance of some the most wanted pieces by Boca do Lobo. A harmonious space full of exclusivity that Laith sketched from the very beginning. Minotti, Jonathan Adler, Eichholtz, Tom Dixon, The Rug Company, Hudson Furniture NY by Barlas Baylar just to name a few, are other luxury and exquisite brands that the designer chose for this inspiring interior design project. The key to make this unique project is to have as the center stage the client’s art collection. Therefore, the walls are painted in crisp white to have the art speak and stand out. The designer thoughts worked around the colors of a peacock feather: blue, green, caramel for the formal area. The ambiance is filled with shaped and sharped forms to create more dimension and life growing through the ground. Right in front of the firework stands out opulence and wide-open eclectic living room. Art is detailed in every piece of furniture in the house. Contemporary and maximalism styles are the main combination of the room and together create the perfect juxtaposition. 120 | G&G _ Magazine
“The Boca Do Lobo Versailles sofa was the focal point for me in the formal lounge which was custom upholstered in a rich deep blue velvet... the sofa was a perfect fit to such an eclectic space. - Laith Abdel Hadi

For the living room the designer has chosen the Boca Do Lobo Versailles sofa: this creative piece made in a wood structure and panels in a manual sculpture, enriches the decoration of the space and, with its blue color, contributes to the balance of colors giving a remarkable contrast.
By the dining area, white and neutrals are the king and queen. However, this outstanding design corner only works with the white and blue-tiled sideboard. The kitchen countertop was a challenge for its size as it’s entirely made of blue agate crystal, which we had made and flown from India to London. Besides, with hand-painted-tiles, Boca do Lobo Heritage sideboard has gained a privileged place in this room dictating an overall look and feel about this unique space. In this project, Laith Abdel Hadi worked closely with his clients to create an interior design project that reflects the clients’ style and personality, always pushing the boundaries of style and design a bit further.

Ippolito Fleitz Group has completed a new coworkspace project in Shanghai, SOHO 3Q WuJiaoChang, commissioned by the country’s largest private real estate developer.

oworking spaces such as SOHO 3Q WuJiaoChang are places that buzz with energy where the unexpected forms part of your daily agenda. China’s millennials are work environments for new encounters – places where you can meet interesting people and create new things together. It’s a way to come into contact with other talented people, mavericks, movers and doers, who could perhaps become your next coworkers or business partners. Ippolito Fleitz Group’s transformation of a Shanghai department store from the 1980s makes a stimulating contribution to this subject – and with it, to the future of the work environment. China has an impressive number of young people with a drive to move things forward and a need for a modern and inspiring work environment from which to do so. At the same time, the country has a great deal of outdated building stock that no longer complies with today’s use and quality requirements. There is enormous potential in rediscovering and converting these large spaces for a new kind of use: the city’s unused building blocks are becoming revitalised and the new way of working together is finding an environment outside of conventional office typologies. In Wujiaochang, a trendy district with numerous shopping malls near Shanghai University, the opportunity arose to transform a disused department store with 14,000 square meters and five levels into this kind of dynamic workspace. Via the two-level campus on the ground floor, the energy of the coworking space connects with the pulse of the city. The campus forms the centrepiece of the building: a two-level community hub designed for business talks, presentations, formal and spontaneous meetings, and a place to have coffee.
130 | G&G _ Magazine
On each of the five levels, users are welcomed in a central reception area. Around the reception area is grouped a diverse array of communication areas: small and large conference rooms, cafeterias and more concentrated work spaces, such as small conference niches, alcoves and acoustically shielded telephone booths.
Separate private offices in denominations of two to 30 workstations offer an easily scalable, flexible work environment for a total of 2.500 people.
The design language mirrors the energy of the coworking ethos: terrazzo floors, open ceilings and wooden surfaces teamed with bold colours create an inspiring yet engaging atmosphere for a target group that is always on the move. In order to zone such a large area into identifiable spaces, each level is dedicated to a well-known personality, who effected a revolutionary change in perception in their particular field of endeavour: portraits of Leoh Ming Pei, Steve Jobs, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison decorate the walls and give each level its unique identity.

Individual graphic and colour concepts provide a further means of differentiation. The five levels thereby become work havens for your particular professional ambitions.

Unexpected
CONTRAST
136 | G&G _ Magazine
“Our lifestyles are modern; nature is raw and primal. It is in that honest contrast that a beautiful tension exists‌ The architecture exists to enhance the experience of the outdoors - not to mimic it, but to complement it so that guests may experience the bush more directly, more immediately.â€? - Stefan Antoni, the lead architect
Combining state-of-the-art sustainable architecture with a pioneering afro-minimalist aesthetic, Cheetah Plains contrasts confident contemporary inorganic forms with the natural landscape, creating something beautiful in the unexpected creative contrast of seemingly opposing forces. The angular or divaricate architectural forms that are the aesthetic signature at the heart of the lodge design were inspired by the Acacia thorns indigenous to the area. The convergent straight lines and expansive cantilevered roof structures of the lodge not only offset the architecture against its setting - a sculptural form or jewel in the landscape - but also frame and mediate the experience of the bush.
“The idea was always to redefine luxury and usher in a new language of African design for safari… The result is interiors that The lodge accommodation at Cheetah Plains is split into three separate, private components referred to as the Plains Houses. These, in turn, are are at once made up of clusters of free-standing buildings rather than the typical uniquely African, lodge typology of a central communal space surrounded by bedrooms. yet undeniably Each Plains House has a private arrival courtyard with covered canopy, modern with an expansive open-plan lounge, dining and bar space with adjoining natural finishes air-conditioned wine room and a private family/media room. and sophisticated Many of the furniture pieces were custom designed by ARRCC and OKHA in collaboration with local craftsmen, including Colin Rock, Pierre detailing.” - Mark Rielly, ARCC interior design director

Cronje and Gerrit Giebel. Once-off Pierre Cronje dining tables, each made from a single sheet of leadwood, establish a central feature in each house. Suspended above them, hand-blown glass chandeliers by Martin Doller reflect and refract the natural light from the surrounding bushveld. Each bar has been hand-carved from a single block of Travertine. The walls are adorned with a thoughtfully curated selection of original South African artworks, many specifically commissioned from both established and up-and-coming contemporary local artists. The public sculptures include cheetah by Arend Eloff and wild dogs by Gail Catlin.
The outdoor features woven into the spaces around each Plains House include a boma area, an expansive terrace, and a heated pool. Sculptural raw rusted steel pool pavilions, inspired by the canopy of the local Tamboti tree, filter dappled light through their cantilevered branches.
140 | G&G _ Magazine
The fractured arrangement of the buildings also made it possible to retain established trees on the site and build around them, enhancing the lodge’s sense of integration with the environment and allowing to tread lightly on the site. At the same time, the integrated concept of architecture, interiors, and furniture design gently revolutionises the safari experience and advances the discourse of game lodge architecture. 142 | G&G _ Magazine
The communal living spaces are each surrounded by four standalone bedroom suites, almost large enough to be considered a mini-lodges in their own right. Here, the interior design introduces softness and texture – at times retaining a certain grittiness with rough stone walls, raw concrete, weathered steel and sheets of glass. The bedrooms suites themselves each have a generous open-plan lounge and bedroom space, plus guest toilet, and a walk-in dressing room. The bathrooms open directly to the outdoors, offering an exhilarating open-air bathing experience. A unique sense of place is carried through in the abundant use of locally sourced natural materials and bespoke designs handmade by local artisans. Organic natural forms are abstracted in the patterns, forms, and rhythms of the interior design. Richly textured fabrics, aged leathers, and wood grains have been subtly offset with sleek details in gold, bronze, and black.
“The story of the design is a collaborative vision that carefully explores the considered design of every element and their materials to reveal their natural beauty and purest form, shaping elements that are raw and transforming them into objects of luxury. - Mark Rielly

At the foot of the Sciliar, in the picturesque area of Alpe di Siusi (Bolzano), the spirit of a barn is reborn as a home thanks to the intervention of noa* (network of architecture), mixing the South Tyrolean tradition with surprising features internally, resulting from design of visionary and unexpected spaces.
The house mirrors the construction type of the location’s rural buildings. On the stone foundation, is a wooden structure in larch on three levels, and which supports the gable roof, typical of the village’s dwellings. A wooden trellis covers the whole house in a shell-like manner, screening the light and heat of the sun in the hotter periods, and as a whole it is suggestive of the typical structures of alpine barns. One side of the house is formed from a glass facade and a terrace which opens out to the magnificent view over the landscape of the Dolomites..

K
eep tradition in mind, but at the same time move away so as to create an original identity, a new way of living, a different structuring of the domestic space, and to search inspiration from a childhood passed in the mountains. The challenge faced by noa* in the project is a construction to take the place of a deserted house in the centre of the village with the original structure dating back to 1850. This project executed at a height of 1100 a.s.l. at the foot of Alpe di Siusi, a part of the Italian Dolomites recognised as a Unesco World Heritage due to its outstanding natural beauty. It was extremely important to respect the parameters of the original structure and the urban planning requirements and regulations of the village. For Stefan Rier, founder, together with Lukas Rungger of the noa* studio, and in this instance ‘his own client’, the project was an opportunity to give a personal footprint to his own property. In this sense there was a move away from the traditional principles of spatial distribution, this being achieved in part by recalling memories of a childhood spent in the mountains. The outcome of the project is a dwelling, having two aspects which confront each other in their style. The exterior represents the traditional alpine location, splendidly immersed in the local topography, whilst the interior boasts the visionary impulse, the surprise of a space freed from the general scheme of things, almost permeable, osmotic, and certainly innovative.
The ground floor is a large common space with three diverse ‘island’ functions: the relaxation area, the dining area, and the kitchen, resolved with a large working surface feature in natural brass, and decorated on the sides with artisan earthenware tiles. The rest of the house develops in a vertical way and instead of the classical room division there are what can be described as ‘hanging boxes’, which are positioned at different heights and interconnected by stairs and walkways - they giving the sensation of walking up a mountain path towards the peak.
The furniture has all been produced to design specification, adhering to a zerokilometre regime. Attention to detail has been scrupulous, as has the search for original solutions from both a formal and functional stance. Cloth chosen plays an intricate game with wood in creating an atmosphere almost theatrical in kind. Flowing blue drapes act almost as stage curtains in enclosing various spaces and giving different and new perspectives.
148 | G&G _ Magazine
As well as incorporating materials having a local tradition – wood and stone – the project introduces others of a more contemporary nature, in some cases recalling a Mediterranean style. The floor resin, giving uniformity to the ground floor appearance, alternates between baked clay and sea-blue tiles, the same as used for the side covering of the kitchen’s work surface. The brass gives brilliant warm tones to the furniture details and to the work surface which also incorporates the cooking essentials and sink.
The staircase, in finely worked steel recalls the grates of Arabian tradition, creating a chiaroscuro effect which is extremely unusual for the Alpine environment.
The house contains three bedrooms supported by the wooden beam structure, visible in its totality. Each of them is designed as micro-homes, each one having its own particular design, these boxes seem to almost ‘hang’ in the ample volume of the interior. One gains access via a staircase and a walkway system, which as well as having a connecting function, accommodate the ‘bathroom’ areas with tubs and showers. On the last floor, a box plays host to the sauna with a panoramic view, extending out of the southern front. Preceding the sauna, there is a book-lounge with an antique majolica stove, which has been taken from the pre-existing building. The library together with a cloakroom area complete the private spaces on the higher levels. 150 | G&G _ Magazine

LATE '20S CLASSICISM The Australian studio Luigi Rosselli Architects presents the renovation of "Peppertree Villa" - a skilfully designed late 1920s home in Bellevue Hill, the renowned eastern suburb of Sydney Harbor.
t the summit of Bellevue Hill a centennial Peppertree rises over the skyline; two homes lie beneath its vast canopy. One day the owners of the two homes decided to renew the botany and architecture of properties. This was how was how Luigi Rosselli Architects coming to be selected to respectfully revive and refresh this beautifully designed one of this house, "Peppertree Villa". During the 1920s, while Europe sought to wash away the trauma of World War I through radical architectural styles such as constructivism and cubist inspired modernism, Australia chose to find comfort in the familiarity of classicism. Mediterranean classic style provided the dominant source of inspiration for homes built at ‘the top end of town’. With the Peppertree Villa, this classicism was expressed through a grand entry loggia or portico to the side of the house, and magnificent fireplaces and wellproportioned rooms to its interior. The aim of the Luigi Rosselli Architects improvements was to provide better flows between the various living spaces, open the spaces up to a new garden, and add a new basement garage, an attic room and a backyard swimming pool.
On the ground floor, small timber windows have been replaced by larger, finely framed steel windows that offer uncluttered openings onto a new Myles Baldwin designed garden where the Peppertree still stands, casting a soft, dappled light across the walls and grounds of this villa reborn. 154 | G&G _ Magazine
Every aspect of the design of the house was carefully workshopped by Luigi Rosselli, the Client (a renowned fashion designer), Project Architect Jane McNeill, and Interior Designer Romaine Awill. The result is a mastery of architectural finishes such as the introduction of lush, tactile elements such as the stucco lucido (polished plaster), brass metalwork, solid timber panelling, resin-based wall cladding and bronze finishes to the cabinets.
156 | G&G _ Magazine
A new stair was also added due to the necessity to connect the two new levels to the rest of the house, and to provide a more inviting ascension to the bedrooms on the upper floors. The resulting stair takes the form of a suspended sculptural ribbon entirely detached from the walls of the stairwell. Luigi had to jump up and down on the treads to convince both the client and the builder of its strength and stability before they would consent to remove the temporary supporting props.

SHENZHEN: THE CHINESE ARCHITECTURE STUDIO BASED IN SHANGHAI, SHUISHI, COMPLETED ITS LATEST PROJECT FOR SHIMAO GROUP: EXHIBITION CENTER OF SHIMAO SHENZHEN-HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL CENTER, IN COLLABORATION WITH LANDSCAPE DESIGN FIRM BELT COLLINS INTERNATIONAL (HK) LIMITED.

ituated in the eastern CBD of Longgang, Shenzhen, Shimao Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center enjoys the unique urban landscape resources, with its exhibition center constructed earlier looking towards Longgang Universiade Green Park, its east side facing the future super-high-rise main tower (it might become China's landmark building), its north side close to the central green space, and its west side echoing with the landscape mountains. The exhibition center will take into account the functions of planning display, commercial marketing, art exhibition, cultural activities, etc., and inject new vitality into the urban area. It will become the first business card of Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center to the public. The architectural design has combined modern science and technology with traditional culture, taking "Spiral Scroll" + "Layered Gardens" as the core concept: The spiral rising architectural form together with the LED transparent screen, has formed a hazy paper canvas, displaying a long roll of landscape pictures with national charm; the overhangings at different levels and directions have formed a multi-dimensional layered garden, echoing with the scenery in all directions. The combination of the two is meant to create an exhibition gallery with rich cultural meanings. 162 | G&G _ Magazine
The gallery is floating above the water mirror, with pastel reflections full of interesting contrast. The tensile structure has overhanging layer by layer, changing directions all the time, and adding radiance and beauty to the surrounding field. The "Spiral Scroll" is circling and circling upwards, creating a hazy, tranquil, or grand, magnificent architectural atmosphere in varying periods of light and shadow. The "Crystal Exhibition Hall" of the core exhibition space is embedded in it, which shows the artistic tone of the public opening.

The landscape terrace that follows the rotation of the building constitutes a “Layered Garden, aiming to create an experience of touring in the air garden and form a continuation of indoor and outdoor temperament. The "Spiral Scroll" has adopted a double-layer curtain wall system, with the inner performance curtain wall following the functional layout closely, the outer shape curtain wall circling upwards with the cantilever, and the middle cavity with a
built-in "LED transparent screen" multimedia system. During the daytime, the glazed glass in the sun presents a pure and elegant temperament like the rice paper, looking so peaceful and graceful. At dusk, the afterglow of the sunset falls on the scroll, and the building and the sky glister together; when the curtain of night falls, the magnificent dynamic landscape pictures circle around the building, looking so grand and exciting; at night, the gentle floodlight mode makes the building return to nature, looking quiet and peaceful.

T
he dark and damaged passageway of the Budapest spectacle has been a popular location in spy films, now its intricate details can be properly seen for the first time in its history. The designers who worked on repurposing the apartments above the passageway to a five-star hotel had the enormous task to honor the Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau and Moorish aesthetics created by the masters of 1900s in their contemporary interpretation with subtlety. Had you visited the Paris Court in downtown Budapest only a handful of years ago, you’d have met with a significantly different impression. Darkened corners, rusted metalwork and damage from the tumultuous wartime events that shook Europe in the 20th Century all combined to make for an architectural sight that was at once historically rich yet in many ways a shadow of its former glory. In fact, it was a popular destination for filmmakers, who saw the opportunity to leverage the combination of the ornate passageway and limited natural light for covert undercover meetings in spy films such as 2011’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Over the last three years, a partnership between Kroki and Archikon has worked to revive the downtown location, restoring the dark and damaged arcade to a decorated landmark that introduces proper lighting to its intricate details for the first time in its history.
“For me the exciting part of this project was behind the scenes. This is why we designed the protective case to allow visitors to see into the Paris Court from above. - Csaba Nagy, lead architect of Archikon
Interestingly, the residences above actually sit on top of the arches that run along the roof of the passageway, meaning that historically they could not have provided any natural light. As a solution, Archikon installed clever lighting into the arches of the arcade, giving the impression of natural light that simultaneously enhance the intricate details of the decorated passageway.
The goal was first to restore the historical features of the central passageway, which is now open to the public as it had been prior to its disrepair. This meant maintaining the unique facades and decorative elements of the building that its creator, Henrik Schmahl, had designed it with when it was built at the beginning of the 1900s. Glimpses of NeoGothic, Art Nouveau and Moorish aesthetics can be spotted throughout the covered space. The myriad details that once decorated the passageway is a rarity across Europe, and so when work started it was essential that these same features were restored and maintained to their previous, ornate glory. The initial work on the Paris Court began with Archikon, who first needed to restore the 172 | G&G _ Magazine
glass dome that acts as the centrepiece for the walkway. Archikon, who has worked on numerous restorations of historic buildings in Budapest, knew that the first goal should be to bring light into the passageway. This dome was meticulously cleaned and, where necessary, replaced with the same attention to detail that it had previously been built with. A protective casing has also been added to the dome, securing the delicate construction from the elements while still allowing light to pour into the central seating area below. The protective case itself is designed with a tiered set of windows, while a small terrace at the first floor of the residences allows for access to the glass dome, acting a small viewing space into the arcade below.
While ARCHIKON worked hard to tactfully restore the arcade to its historical beauty, it was the work above within the residences that allowed the architectural studio to bring modern aspects to the building. A onceopen air courtyard that provided access to the apartments themselves has now been covered with a unique rooftop with geometrical glass panels. This allows light into the renovated space but protects it from the elements. The same area has been restored as an interior space, close attention was paid to maintaining the original features of the building, such as the octagonal column of the building’s previous elevator or the elaborate stained-glass windows that give the newly covered space a sense of fantasy.
Nowhere is this attention to the original features better seen than in the new floor that has been added onto the building and is being used for the hotel’s presidential suite. Here Archikon built a rooftop terrace to provide a grand view over the city while still retaining a sense of privacy and personal space.
174 | G&G _ Magazine
The terrace provides immediate view of the building’s original rooftop tiles. These famous Zsolnay tiles are a familiar sight on numerous historical buildings throughout Budapest and Hungary, but nowhere else is it possible to have such direct closeness to the iconic ceramics.

L
ocated in the city of Edmonton, the old existing pool was replaced by a seasonal pavilion and landscaped pool precinct for 400 swimmers. The architectural challenge was to create a large-scale pool with the high-quality water control (a criterion essential for any public bathing facility), while also achieving an environmentally healthy and natural filtration process. The architects began by establishing a pool technology that cleanses the water through stone, gravel, sand, and botanic filtering processes, and this inspired them to create a materials-oriented concept for the changeroom facility that achieves a technically rigorous and aesthetically integrated design. Canada’s guidelines for public pools are some of the strictest in the world, so to realise the project the architects needed to take a creative approach, classifying the project as “recreational waters” with the building permit as a “constructed beach with variances” – and the variances were the pools. The pool involves a balanced ecosystem where plant materials, microorganisms, and nutrients come together within a gravel and sand filtering process to create “living water”. There is no soil involved in this process. Filtration is achieved in two ways: by means of a biological mechanical system or the constructed wetland and gravel filter, and in situ, with Zooplankton. This is an unsterilized, chemical and disinfectant free filtering system in which isolating membranes contain water as it circulates and is cleansed by means of a natural process. The process takes place at the north end of the pool precinct. On deck, water passes through a sand and stone subversive pond and a planted hydro botanic pond. Adjacent to these ponds, a granular filter PO4 adsorption unit is enclosed by the gabion walls continuous with the building.
178 | G&G _ Magazine
The project’s materiality creates a fundamental conceptual connection between the technical demands of the pool and the design of the built enclosure and landscape elements. The dark limestone and steel of the gabion wall construction defines the enclosure’s vertical dimension as filter-like or breathable, as granular and porous.
The elemental form and reductive materials ease the user experience and enriches the narrative of bathing in the landscape. The juxtaposition of the constructed elements invokes comparisons with the geology of the North Saskatchewan River and the flat topography of the prairie lands edge.
180 | G&G _ Magazine
The pool precinct is defined by a planar landscape where flush to surface detailing creates seamless interfaces among sandy beach, the concrete pool perimeter and wood decking. The gabion walls of the low rectilinear building terminate with a lid-like flat roof that frames the treecanopy of the Park beyond and enhances the sensation of open-sky spaciousness within the pool precinct.
The building houses universal change rooms, showers, washrooms, staff areas and the water filtration mechanisms. The swimming program includes a children’s pool, a deep pool, on-deck outdoor showers, a sandy beach, picnic areas, and spaces for other pool related recreational activities. The structure takes a cue from the two adjacent mid-century modernist style pool buildings. Built in the 1950s these extant buildings define the southwest edge of the pool precinct and connects the new with a century old cultural heritage of architecturally distinctive, civic outdoor bathing pavilions. The Borden Park Natural Swimming Pool is indicative of the City of Edmonton’s exemplary leadership and recognition of the civic importance of architectural excellence in the building of public infrastructure. Borden Park has evolved over the last century as a place of shared outdoor recreational activities, as a destination for family gatherings, for outdoor bathing since 1924, as well playing host to a zoo and at times fairground events.
BORDER CROSSING HOUSE Simone Subissati Architects projected the isolated house in the Italian city of Polverigi (Marche region) with long and compact body. 182 | G&G _ Magazine
Photography by Alessandro Magi Galluzzi
The created space is concave, receptive, permitting the external space to enter and to the residents to enjoy it with simplicity. An ideal line of energy (a cosmic axis) of which the inhabitant can feed himself. He can pass through, from north to south, from the mountains to the sea. Suspension and dizziness are wanted feelings, enhanced by the absence of a conventional railing in the catwalk that distributes the spaces for the whole length of the house, replaced by an ethereal henhouse net.
W
ith its prolonged form, the body allows the simultaneous vision of the two sides of the ridge from any environment, symbolizes the border, the threshold to cross, emerging as the main theme of the project research. The project borrows, from the traditional rural home in Le Marche region, the compactness and the longitudinal development of the building with residential space in a row. The house is located on the outskirts of the urban space, where fields grow; the permeability of the soil is left to its maximum, with the grass that touches the perimeter of the house and with the minimum surface of outdoor paving that is detached, isolated from the house. There is no fence to demarcates the private property. A swathe of grass surrounds ideally the house in the field (cultivated in rotation with grain, barley, sunflower) expanding it. The attempt is to break the border, without following the
protocol for which the private housing space is split up from farm work. A concept that is develop in a different way in the ground floor (day) and the 1st floor (night). The ground floor is a cut block, covered in varnished iron with anti rust primer. While the first floor, as though suspended, is composed by a more closed and intimate section and by a hybrid, inner and external space, surround by a perforated membrane. The two levels have different connections with the external space. On the ground floor the cyclic theory of the vertical cut allows visual and physical permeability.
In the closed block of the first floor, an unusual window, with kaleidoscopic viewfinders head towards the landscape, giving the possibility to look out at the two counterposed slopes from the same position. The relation with the exterior changes by moving close to them, allowing the entrance of the amplified surrounding panorama.
The body of the building can be crossed in more than one position: the patio entrance, the living and bathroom/ spa. The emptiness that springs in the dialectical scheme internalexternal of the project, bounded by walls (from the open space of the patio and the outside catwalk, to the more intimate area of the bedrooms, arriving to the area filtered from curtains on the first floor) is important to break up what unusually tends to occupy in a stable and immobilizing way. The blocks and the single parts of the building could be easily identified, having the proportions of an assembly kit, an out of scale construction game composed by white and red pieces of which it simple to imagine even the assembly process. The project is minimized, according to a simple thought based on the concept rather than formal choices. The rhythm of the openings and of the coating of the block on the ground floor is modular, cyclical, and follows a sinusoidal law; the same is reflected in the diaphragm- space on the first floor, in the wood partition than sustains the tissue. 186 | G&G _ Magazine
The doors of the balcony can stay open without any obstruction lean against pilasters. In this way the inner space become an outside-covered space and the living area turns into an enclosed gazebo in the house to be used not only in the summer season. 188 | G&G _ Magazine
Regarding the interior and the furniture (all customized designed) the purpose was to avoid the contemporary language made of bright, luxury labels and design of contemporary fashion. Searching for an authenticity, like an “inherited space, to pass down itself as witness, imagining it almost as though temporary (nomad, camping); a light
space, flexible, like pre-existing, that suddenly we can take back, no finery and no luxury which belongs to home of the farming tradition.
