Chiminigagua umtaskua chie, Chiminigagua suelta la luz, y dos inmensas aves emprenden vuelo desde sus entrañas, batiendo sus potentes alas y emitiendo un feroz graznido. En sus picos llevan la luz. Y allí donde su aliento ilumina, surgen árboles, plantas, montañas; allí donde el aleteo de sus plumas esparce el albor, toman forma jaguares, anacondas, tapires. Chiminigagua crea al hombre y a la mujer, e ilumina con más fulgor la tierra para que resalten sus maravillas. Antes no había nada, ahora hay texturas, colores, formas. Chiminigagua no quiere irse, Chiminigagua quiere quedarse para ver su creación. Entonces se eleva sobre los cielos, que se vuelven azules a medida que la luz roza las nubes y se mezcla con el aire. Sube y sube hasta desplegar su inmenso cuerpo, redondo y resplandeciente, como una bola de fuego que abarca el horizonte. Chiminigagua sua, Chiminigagua sol. In the beginning there was darkness and everything was formless. Only Chiminigagua existed, the beginning and end of everything constituted by Chimi, the pulp, and Chímini, the first creative force. Chiminigagua was everywhere and nowhere. Chiminigagua was alive, as gods are, but there was an abyss around. But Chiminigagua wanted there to be light, a bright force capable of illuminating the universe, creating life and bringing order out of chaos. So he opened his womb and let out his most precious treasure: a ray of light that covered the universe and gave it shape. Chiminigagua umtaskua chie, Chiminigagua delivered light and two immense birds flew out of his entrails, flapping their strong wings and calling into the darkness. In their beaks they carried light. Expelling brightness with breath, trees, plants, and mountains emerged out of nowhere; every flutter of their wings spread clarity and jaguars, anacondas, and tapirs came to life. Chiminigagua created women and men and illuminated the Earth to highlight its wonders. Where there was nothing there are now textures, colours, forms. Chiminigagua doesn’t want to leave; Chiminigagua wants to stay and see his creation, so he elevates towards the sky, which turns blue as the light brushes the clouds and mixes with the air. He climbs further and further until he spreads his magnificent body which is round and bright like a ball of fire that dominates the horizon. Chiminigagua sua, Chiminigagua sun. Durante generaciones han sabido seleccionar, domesticar y dar forma a los materiales para crear delicados diseños y motivos. Estas manos son el más rico y variado patrimonio cultural del país, encargadas de mantener vivas las tradiciones y el vínculo que une al hombre con la flora y fauna de cada región.
The hands of Colombian artisans are a hidden treasure. They embody centenary knowledge and techniques that have made possible the transformation of nature into art. For centuries, they have known how to select, tame, and give shape to materials in order to create delicate patterns and designs. These hands are the countries’ richest and most varied cultural asset. They keep traditions alive and the bond that links men to the flora and fauna of each region.

Chimi ha querido mostrar al mundo este gran tesoro. Todos los objetos que se fabrican en nuestros talleres provienen directamente de las manos de artesanos. Hemos aprovechado el conocimiento y la destreza acumulada en el tiempo para garantizar piezas auténticas, de primerísima calidad, que combinan las técnicas tradicionales con diseños innovadores. Pasado y futuro se unen en cada una de nuestras creaciones; el patrimonio cultural colombiano en diálogo con el diseño de vanguardia, abierto a la experimentación y al permanente cambio, para crear objetos y muebles que se adaptan a los espacios y ritmos de la vida contemporánea. Nuestras piezas están confeccionadas con productos 100% naturales. La lana, el fique, el yute, la caña flecha, el cuero y el hilo de algodón, además de la madera, distintos metales, piedras semipreciosas, vidrio, alpaca y seda, se combinan para crear objetos únicos, que reúnen varías técnicas artesanales, varías tradiciones, varios climas y ecologías. En definitiva, una suma de manos colaborando para crear un diseño que sintetiza la autenticidad del pasado y una arriesgada apuesta por el futuro.

Chimi has wanted to share this great treasure with the world. Every single object made in our workshops comes directly from the hands of artisans. We have rescued the knowledge and the skills accumulated for generations to guarantee unique, high quality pieces, which combine traditional techniques with innovative designs. Past and future joined together in each and every one of our creations: Colombian cultural patrimony in dialogue with avant-garde design, open to experimentation and in permanent change, to create objects and furniture that respond to the spaces and rhythms of contemporary life. All our pieces are entirely handmade with 100% natural products: wool, sisal, jute, caña flecha, leather and cotton thread. Various metals, glass, alpaca, silk, and semiprecious stones are also incorporated to create unique objects which combine craftwork techniques, different traditions, several climates and ecologies. In brief, numerous hands in action to create designs that reunite the authenticity of the past and a courageous bet towards the future.

en que Chiminigagua esparció la luz sobre el mundo para que hombres y mujeres pudieran asombrarse con sus maravillas, Chimi también ha querido llevar trabajo, riqueza y prosperidad allá donde los problemas sociales y económicos del país han eclipsado la vida de comunidades emprendedoras. Para ello hemos diseñado un esquema de trabajo comunitario, que nos permite generar más de 40 empleos directos y decenas de indirectos entre la población vulnerable del país, especialmente madres cabeza de familia, indígenas, desplazados y reinsertados. En nuestros talleres, expertos en oficios como el tejido mixto, el bordado, la carpintería, la tapicería, el metal y el trenzado en caña flecha transforman las materias primas en objetos únicos, en los que se combina la pericia artesanal y la imaginación vanguardista. En el caso de los textiles, el trabajo empieza con la elaboración de un preciso mapa que resume el diseño y las indicaciones para su confección. Esta guía permite que las madres cabeza de familia tejan nuestros tapetes, tapices y cojines en sus hogares, conciliando de esta forma la vida laboral con sus compromisos familiares. Nuestros muebles, lámparas y accesorios también son el resultado de un trabajo en equipo. Cada artesano contribuye con su creatividad y todos los implicados obtienen una retribución justa, además de reconocimiento por su talento y esfuerzo. El cuidadoso trabajo que realizan, garantiza que nuestras piezas sean 100% eco-friendly y que en cada una de ellas se refleje la armonía entre la tradición artesanal, el respeto por la naturaleza y el diseño de vanguardia que caracteriza las creaciones de Chimi.

In our workshops, experts in crafts including knitting, embroidery, carpentry, metalwork, and braiding transform raw material into objects that combine the artisan’s mastery with avant-garde imagination. Textile design begins with the elaboration of a precise map that carefully indicates the pattern to follow. This allows mothers

Our furniture, lamps and home furnishings are also a result of team-work. Chimi es un espacio de creación en el que participan profesionales de diversas ramas, entre ellos diseñadores gráficos e industriales, decoradores, artistas, arquitectos, artesanos, antropólogos y un grupo administrativo altamente cualificado. Los objetos que nacen de este proceso creativo integran el pasado indígena, la cultura autóctona de varias regiones del país y las nuevas tendencias mundiales en diseño. Pero como concepto, Chimi va más allá de la decoración del hogar. Proponemos una forma de asumir los retos estéticos aplicable a cualquier espacio o ámbito de la vida.
Professionals in different fields participate in Chimi’s creative workshop. We have graphic and industrial designers, decorators, artists, architects, artisans specialized in traditional techniques, anthropologists and a qualified management team. Our creations integrate Colombia’s indigenous past and regional cultures with new trends in contemporary design. As a concept, Chimi goes beyond home decoration. We propose a new form of assuming aesthetic challenges for any space or sphere of life.

Contamos con un cualificado equipo de diseñadores de interiores, decoradores y arquitectos con el que intervenimos cualquier tipo de espacio, bien sea público o privado. También prestamos asesorías para que nuestros clientes, aprovechando la experiencia y los parámetros conceptuales de Chimi -la combinación de versatilidad, flexibilidad, materiales naturales y ecológicos para sintetizar lo tradicional y lo moderno-, creen su propio espacio. Las alianzas estratégicas que hemos establecido con talleres especializados en todas las ramas de la decoración y la construcción nos permiten asumir cualquier reto. Ya hemos realizado intervenciones en viviendas particulares, espacios corporativos y museos públicos. Recientemente participamos en la creación del mobiliario del Museo del Caribe en la ciudad de Barranquilla.
Our qualified team of interior designers, decorators, and architects intervene any public or private space. We also offer consultancy services so that our clients can benefit from Chimi’s experience and conceptual parameters (the combination of versatility, flexibility, natural and ecological materials that binds together tradition and modernity) to create their own space. The strategic alliances we have established with specialised workshops in all the fields related with decoration and construction encourages us to assume any challenge. We have participated in private homes, corporate spaces, and public museums. We have also recently participated in the production of furniture for the Caribbean Museum in Barranquilla, Colombia.

In the mid term we expect to expand our concept to fields such as hotel industry, gastronomy and fashion. Our challenge is to transform life into art and bring design to every human experience.
