DJ Rose
usic has always been a big part of her life. With her daddy singing her Johnny Cash, and her mom singing her the dixie chicks its a big surprise to us that she loves hip hop and rap so much. Even dubstep sneaks in sometimes in her playlists. Since the opening of the Palomino Marc Fechter has started up classes for DJing 101. Rose has been a big part of it. Learning the tricks of the trade. Her father being a small time DJ in Troy Montana, being a DJ for years at the local VFW. We here at Bella have very high hopes for her in this new adventure. Spokane caters to many local DJ’s but not many are women, we feel it would be a great thing to see more women delve into this kind of career. It’s a great thing for all music

lovers, especially if you love giving people the experience of feeling music in a unique way. Rose only being 15 she still has her whole life ahead of her. Right now her focus is Cheerleading, Modeling, Djing and her new found love of Photography. We couldn’t be more supportive of her. Unfortunatly she doesn’t have any pages for you to go like her stuff but soon as we have them so will our fan base.
Thanksgiving Throwdown
S
omething is to be said of Thanksgiving Throwdowns performances, organization, and quality. That something, is excellent. Punks in Drublic debuted together on stage, and I was taken back to high school! Their set of punk rock covers were not only nostalgic for many, but also meshed very well with FTJs sound, and gave the whole night a lighter feel than our usual metal shows. We still had the harder rock with performances by Helldorado and headliners Moretta, but the two genes were transitioned very nicely with the Banish Boys, or rather, Banish the Echo.
A big shout out to Cameron Moore, FTJs frontman, for his extensive work putting the entire show together- complete with a pre funk show the night prior, as well as an after show to top it all off! The pre funk show included two amazing out of town bands- Unconfined and Volcanoes On the Sun, as well as some acoustic performances. The after show was equally impressive with Northfork and 37 street signs taking the stage. So hats of to Camo! I’m happy to say that I had the privilege of recording another video interview, which I will bring to you next week, this time with the editor of Bella Entertainment by my side! :) and I’ll also be back with Spungo International for our Christmas show: Spungmare Before Christmas with Jenstar and Angi Terry on the 23rd, 11am- 2pm, and you WON’T want to miss it!
Walking Corpse Sydrome
F
or 36 weeks now, I have showcased various aspects of our local music scene and artists passionately, and genuinely. Each week, I am determined to find who I want to interview and review based on what I feel; how their musical influence speaks to me. From week one up until now, many aspects of After Hour Diaries have changed, grown, and improved. However, one fact remains, and that’s the heart that provides the foundation for After Hour Diaries. As soon as a band captivates my attention, I try to set up an interview. Through the interview process I am able to learn exactly what makes them tick, their driving force. After that, I know whether or not I will review them, as I will only write my posts about bands that are genuine and have a passion for music through and through- that appreciate their fans, and have humility. This week is no exception! I had the opportunity to sit down with Walking Corpse Syndrome and was lucky enough to have the interview recorded (which I have edited and posted on YouTube), and these guys legitimately represent everything that I do involving music. Their heart is with the fans, supporting the other other bands, and the music scene as a whole. I fell in love instantly.
When you watch the video, you will see for yourself just how inspiring this talented group of musicians really are. There’s not much that I can add to that, since they speak for themselves, however I will emphasize that they have my backing 100 percent and I am eager to watch them perform again.
The stage show, oh the stage show... so much energy and life, it was captivating. With TWO drummers and guitarists its hard to peel your eyes and ears away, it really is incredible to watch first hand. But again, I digress, their performance really speaks for itself. What I want to bring light, however, is how genuine they are. I want to express how much they really care about their fans and the connection they share with them, as well as how deeply involved and supportive they are of fellow musicians. Friday the 13th was when they played at the pin and I was there working merch for Thunderknife. I was able to see first and that each member of the band throughout the show stayed with their own merch booth, talked with their fans, and moshed in the crowd. I honestly had no idea that they were IN a band until they stepped on stage- because they were involved with the rest of crowd. It was beau-
tiful. So do yourselves a favor- check them out, and watch the interview! https://youtu.be/o18sMf0Gohc Personally, I have to recommend their video for “Angel Flesh”. I was blown away by the amazing visuals; the best way I could describe it as is stop motion anime, but without the anime. Absolutely incredible. Alright Lovey’s, that’s a wrap for this issue, see you next time! *Special thanks to Aaron Torres for filming and photography; Angi Terry & Go Heart Promotions for recommending and setting up the interview, and Walking Corpse Syndrome for the time and insight.
“When you watch the video, you will see for yourself just how inspiring this talented group of musicians really are.”
K
yra Dean was an awesome discovery. I had stumbled across her reverberation page when a friend of mine had shared it to her wall. So far Kyra only has one music Video out along with one original song. Kyra is always working on new songs in her spare time, she tells us that songwriting is her first love next to playing guitar and singing. Kyra has always had a passion for singing, the one person in her life who has always inspired her was her Papa Tom. She tells Bella Entertainment that she remembers watching him and his band perform when she was a little girl, thinking to herself how she wanted to do the same thing. But most of all his passion for music was what truly inspired her, which also keeps her motivated even today. Kyra performs a lot in Coeur D’ Alene area. She has also been to the IMTA where she performed for their judges and also modeled for them too. Kyra says that the best thing about performing in from of a crowd is watching the people’s reactions. She says she sees everything from smiling faces and loves every minute of it. She also loves provoking thought and emotion which she says
the best way to do that is through music. Fans are what keep performers or any type of artists going, the support they give is what is needed to help them grow and hopefully become big someday. When asked who she felt her biggest fans were Kyra states “my parents” We at Bella Entertainment love when we hear that answer because not many musicians are able to say that their parents are their biggest fans. No matter where she performs, her parents are there to support her and cheer her on. “It gives me the motivation I need,” Says Kyra. Being young and an artist makes it easy to dream big which Kyra has always done she hopes in five years to be in New York or Los Angeles pursuing her music Career. More than anything she aspires to be herself but when asked what celebrity inspired her the most she tell Bell Entertainment that Taylor Swift is a pretty big role model for her career. All in all, Bella is very honored to have her in our magazine we also are excited to see what’s next for her. So we would like to ask you to check out her sites and song on ITunes.
Kyra Shea Dean “I’m intimidated by the fear of being average. People haven’t always been there for me but music always has. Just be yourself, there is no one better” ~Taylor Swift

Nate M. O’Neal
is work puts you in awe when you first look at it. It makes me happy to see an artist here in Spokane that has such talent and is able to find success. So far Nate has his work up at 5 locations; Liberty Gallery, which is above Aunties Bookstore in downtown Spokane, Salon Sapphire, Salon Avant, Left Bank Wine Bar and at The Satellite Diner. Nate was mostly influenced by his father. Nate would sit at his dad’s feet in awe of a Disney how to draw book studying every detail which got him hooked. In all of his years of painting and drawing. Nate hasn’t created a favorite piece yet, as an artist myself, I can understand that he may never create that perfect piece. I know that I am constantly going back at old works and seeing places I could improve over and over. It gives solace to any artist that others find their works amazing. Which Nate has told us he agrees. Not only does he paint and draw he also uses sculpting, pottery, installation pieces, mural work, acting and singing as other medians to express his creativity. Nate has always known he was going to be an artist from a young age. When asked if he had a certain goal he replied; I’m accomplishing it right now which is being an artist and having his work seen all over the Spokane area. Nate would like to pass on some advice to aspiring artists out there; One never compare yourself to other artists, two create in your own way, three follow the freedom you experience while creating, fearing not the institutions of fear and doubt to other artists, four heal yourself through your craft and five be brave enough, to be the best. I always like to know which known celebrity artist people most find inspiration from, Naturally I had to ask Nate and surely I was pleased with his answer. Any Warhol, a renowned abstract artist back in the 70’s who I even admire. As I said, in the beginning, Nates work can be found at Five locations here in Spokane as well as his artist Facebook Pages under the name of NM O’Neil.

37 Street Signs W
hen you go to a show that is being opened or closed by this band you first think these are just kids what are they doing up on stage? Then they begin to start playing and you’re so blown out of your socks with how good they are. If you ask them they think they suck, but what do they know they are just the talent. Although they have had their ups and downs with members leaving and new ones coming in they still manage to produce amazing music that they all say comes from true stories and the heart. It’s a wonder they haven’t been signed yet to a record label! From wanting to show people that skateboarding isn’t what they are all about to wanting to get better at playing drums on Rockband, to just personally being drawn to music for most of their lives. Alex, Luke, Jacob, Brendan and Mason came together with their years of experience and passion, to form 37 Street Signs. Brenden being the newest member of the band and also, the lead singer hopes with the rest that they can all do this as a career and travel the world while playing for their fans. Their following, for now, is just local but the following they do have right now the band immensely appreciates their support of being at their shows, buying their tracks, and merch. It truly means the world to them. Brenden also added for Bella’s fans that he hope you all come see their shows but also to keep supporting Bella Entertainment Magazine, Thank you, Brenden! If you haven’t already seen them play, I highly suggest you do, They played the after part for Thanksgiving Throwdown at Spikes Bar and Grill on Francis and they rocked the place. Their next known shows will be at The Palomino for Star Searching Finals, Bella Entertainment will be part of the judging panel, so far confirmed Zaq and Monique Flanary will also be joining in the judges panel. So make sure you come down and support them on February 5th
A good song and good musicians can really move mountains. ~Joey Tempest
but before that comes around you can also come see them at the Saving Abel concert which will also be at the Palomino on January 15th, so make sure you get your tickets for that! Rumors have been heard that they might be recording an EP soon, which I hope comes true! They did however just released a Christmas single Called Bah Humbug which can be found on their Facebook page as well as their band camp which you can link to from the QR Code on this page. When asked the ever so popular question of what song would they play if the world was ending? The majority of them said the final countdown, but I have to give props to Brenden the lead singer for answering with on of my favorite songs, done by yet another local band of Spokane, One Last Night By Free the Jester. So for last minute advice from 37 street signs; Keep holding on and don’t let anyone stand in the way of your dreams. Make sure to follow the QR code to their facebook site to see all of their awesomeness!

Queens Of
was’ the night of the holiday drag ball, when all throughout the Palomino, the pitter patter of drag queens rung through the house, decorations were hung with sparkle and care, in hopes that Santa would soon be there. The people were nestled and snug in their chairs while visions of drag queens danced in their heads. On Nova, Beyonce, and Savannah, on Neva and Gypsie, Dance away dance away all. Nova was dressed in sequence and Savannah in Santa’s hat, when out on the stage came such a clatter, Santa was near, away I went with my flash and my gear, ready I was to capture the nights glitter and flare. Laughter and jingles were all you could hear. The crowd was in awe and happy with beer. The night was almost over, but not till the queens sang their last hurrah. Candles were lite and robes were drapped, they sang the crowd a silent night number, the crowd roared as the queens said Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. To all that came, the girls and the owners of the Palomino would like to Thank You. They would also like to welcome you all to come join them for a Mardi Gras show featuring the Queens of the Palomino as well as more to come. You can keep up to date with all of their events on The Palomino Facebook Page found on the QR code below.
The Palomino
Echo Elysium
E
cho didn’t get his start officially until 2008 where he started recording with Mar Fechter of Perfechter Productions. From there he has played many great shows with his beautifully constructed original songs along with his remastered covers. Echo’s music brings warmth and comfort as should any type of Jazz music. Echo Played on Christmas Eve and Day at the Coeur D Alene Casino and then on New Year’s for Country Lane Resort He can also be seen a lot at the Palomino playing with Marc Fechter usually on Sunday nights for The Palomino’s Jazz nights. We all have someone that inspires us one way or another and when we asked Echo who inspired him the most, he answered with two musicians. The first being Buddy Guy, who is an American blues guitarist and singer. An exponent of Chicago Blues who has also influenced Echo’s Second musician who has influenced him, the notorious Jimi Hendrix. After hearing his two picks, it makes me think of how much his style, the way he plays sounds like Buddy Guy and Jimi Hendrix combined. Five years can be a long time for anyone to know what exactly is going to happen. But we can dream, right? Echo sees himself traveling the world and playing his music for huge crowds of people. I love to hear when the musician’s artist etc. reaches for the stars.
Fans can also be another big inspiration for musicians but when family members become your biggest fans, it puts a big drive into you that’s unexplainable. For Echo it is his kids that are his biggest fans, he tells us if they could they would be at every show that he does. I always ask this question for anyone what is some advice you would like to pass on to the aspiring musician. I feel it’s good to pass on tips of the trade because you never know if you inspire someone. So Echo’s tips for the aspiring blues musician is, to do it for the love of music, not the money and fame. I personally would have to agree with that because when you do it for the money, all of that love and passion you had for music disappears and truly shows in people’s work whether it be music, art photography whatever medium they choose. So I love throwing out random questions every once in a while, just to keep things interesting. So I asked Echo what song would he play if it
were the end of the world and he answered back with Purple Rain. Good choice my good man. So you’re probably wondering by now where can I get this man’s music? Well, you can find Echo’s music on ITunes and also you can buy his CD’s from him of course or you can pick some up from us at Bella Entertainment Magazine or any Perfechter production’s locations, including the Palomino. ITunes link can be found by scanning the QR code.

Jimi Finn
imi Finn is one of not so many that has been entertaining for 3 decades. Jimi started at the young age of ten years. He has been playing professionally since 1990. He also majored in acting which gave him the chance to do theater in his early twenties. For about seven years Jimi has been playing at the dueling piano bar in downtown Spokane and recently has been working with Carnival cruise lines for about a year as a piano bar entertainer. Jimi got his passion for music when he would sing with his mother while she played piano down in their family den as a kid while also watching his brother play bass in their basement when his band came over for practice, which in turn inspired him to play the piano. From there at a young age, he began to start making up his own songs for fun which would always put a smile on his face. The possibilities are endless with carnival cruise lines representing over 60 countries and making up 50% of the cruise industry. This gives Jimi a chance to travel on the ships anywhere he wants, playing 4-5 hours a night he is only gone for about two months out of the year which allows him to meet many people. In 2016, Jimi will be flown to Sidney Australia to play 2month aboard the Carnival legend which goes to several islands in the area. A lot of times Jimi is able to bring his family with him to travel the two months on the ship. His advice to all you aspiring entertainers, “I would have to say, learn and play songs your audience can relate to and are familiar with. Understand the importance of lyrics. People don’t remember and sing along to the guitar solo. Whether you’re doing originals or covers, song selection is the most important factor in keeping a crowd. Also, don’t make it about you, make it about your audience. I don’t care how good of a musician you are when you get the crowd involved in your show you take it to the next level. People come out for a good time, it’s up to you as an entertainer to make it happen. Don’t let requests dictate your show, honor them but stay in charge of what needs to happen. Remember the audience wants to hear songs they KNOW. So even if you are an all original artist, throw in a couple of covers. Even Paul McCartney does that. Anywhere I go in the world, I get the requests every night for “Piano Man”, “Brown Eyed Girl”, and “Friends in Low Places” there’s a reason for that. Not because that are the best songs ever, but because people want to sing along to them.” Make sure to stop down at the dueling piano bar downtown spokane, to watch him play!
I
have always enjoyed photography. My first camera was a 110 cartridge camera. I didn’t know much about photography just that it was fun taking pictures. My father was a photographer and he use to show me pictures he took of a pop bottle and a drinking glass on top of a table. At the time I didn’t understand why he was photographing these objects, it seemed boring to me. Since then my education on photography has grown and so has my skill level. I now find myself taking pictures of stagnant objects. I bought my first high quality lens about seven years ago when my daughter was beginning to advance in dancing. I wanted to take pictures of her and her friends on stage in low light conditions. I now do individual, family and senior portraits. I enjoy capturing these moments for them. On a personal basis, I am married with two kids. I am a triathlete and runner. I had the privilege of racing the Boston Marathon in 2013 and the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2014.

Serge Alexandr T he Rise of Ares: Mortal Sins is the first full length novel published by Spokanite Serge Alexandr—who is also an artist. Serge grew up knowing he’d eventually write, and after a stint in college (his degree has nothing to do with neither art nor writing), he went through something of a young adult crisis. He realized that the thought of spending a life climbing the corporate ladder terrified him. That profound realization forced him to quit his job and pursue artistry full time, something he’d dabbled in his whole life. At the same time, he started writing the book he’d always known he would. A lover of nature, the universe, and science, along with many a night spent staring at the night sky, are what truly inspire him. And it’s evident in both his art and writing. The Rise of Ares: Mortal Sins is the first installment in a trilogy dedicated to explore the consequences of extreme technological advancement and what that means in a world where inequality exists. It’s a realistic look at a future where today’s social issues were never solved. It has been described as “…a fresh, thought provoking, yet terrifyingly believable portrait of the near future. The universe Serge creates is both a backdrop for the roller coaster storyline, and an eye opening commentary on humanity’s vector in the present. In 2214, mega-corporations rule the solar system, the affluent opt for genetic enhancement, a single Bank issues all credit and serves as the de facto government, and the government, well… you’ll have to read it. Expect to get caught up in panicked page turning, jaw dropping revelations, a dash of sex-lies-anddrugs, a few real tears, and relieving moments of inspired hope, wonder, and laughter. The Rise of Ares is an intelligent story that explores the human condition: not only of our
struggle with existence, but with our technology, forms of economy and governance, and even equality. Serious futurologists will be ecstatic to see their best predictions played out in space exploration, artificial intelligence, genetics, medicine, and the internet of everything… and everyone. It’s science prediction more than science fiction. It’s what you’d imagine if H.G.Wells, Isaac Asimov, and Ayn Rand were alive today and collaborated.” His book is available on Amazon both electronically and in hard copy. You can also find out more about him and his work at sergealexandr. com, and while there, feel free to send him a message!
