Many new bands have started this year. A new Comedy Club is also coming to Spo12 | Bella Entertainment | Issue 6
I feel so proud to be apart of an amazing creative scene. Every one of you is what makes up Bella Entertainment Magazine if you guys didn’t create amazing music, art, etc. and Spokane was just a dull little town then Bella wouldn’t exist. This community has been by far the greatest with all the support that I have received in just over a year. This recent Christmas marked our one-year anniversary for Bella Entertainment. In just that year we have gained the majority of Spokane Music Scene’s support. From the start, our goal is to bring the magazine into print and I have a very goog feeling that it will be accomplished this year. So you are probably wondering what does this do for my band or art gallery and me; Well, it means we can get the magazine more widespread and your work will be seen by more people. Exciting isn’t. With Sponsorships from Night Life Network Northwest, The Viking Bar and Grill, The Palomino and Go Heart Productions and soon to be more. We just want to thank you, you are making this magazine become bigger for the community, and getting them on the map. So lets rock this year with awesomeness Spokane! Seattle! And the rest of the local scenes out there! This year is for you and your amazing work.

Project X Written by: John Clark
Project (X) being the newbies on the Spokane Scene’s block getting their start August 2015. They show a lot of potential. Project (X) immediately signed on with GoHeart Productions owned and run by Angi Terry. Project (X)’s main goal is to prove to everyone that ever has doubted them wrong. Doing so the practice non-stop dedicating their spare time to their music. Bryce explained to us that Project (X) is a metaphor for their intent to prove to the people who have treated them as unimportant and rejected them; The same kind of feelings you would feel towards an ex-girlfriend or boyfriend. Many of us have aspirations and dreams for our projects that we have or how we want our life path to lead. So then the question is obvious what goals does Project (X) have for their band? The first answer that I got was they wanted to make it out of Spokane. Some bands want to do the same and others don’t. We here at Bella
24 | Bella Entertainment | Issue 6
Project X | Continued at Bella fell that Spokane is a great base camp; why you may ask? Because the local support that everyone is given including Bella Entertainment is amazing, these are people that will travel to support their local band in a different city. The second answer I got from Project (X) was that they want to get nationally noticed. A great goal to work towards we feel. And lastly to go on tour with a nationally known band. All great goals we can’t for them to accomplish them. Inspiration can be a huge part of why a band is started. Whether they identify with a favorite band or just love their sound. Project (X)closely identifies with Three days grace but most of all they try to be their own sound and not someone else’s. From what I have heard from them so far is their sound is unique. Still a starting up band their fans base isn’t as large as many of the bands here in Spokane. But that’s what we are here for to fully expose their great sound and to see the potential these young artists have. Bella will be at their show on the 18th of March @ The Palomino put on by their band manager Angi Terry. They will be playing alongside Walking Corpse Syndrome, RipChain, Concrete Grip, and ThunderKnife. So get your tickets now before they are sold out cause I have a feeling this is going to be a great show. Especially since Project (X) will be there. Project (X) sent us a great note as well saying thank you for the great opportunity and the support from everyone it means a lot to them. Make sure to find their facebook page as well for all of their updates they also have a new album coming out soon as well.

Delicious Resturant Review & Recipies
Featured Review Of Issue 6! Soulful Soups.

S
oulful Soups puts the soul in soups. Every day this delightful small restaurant serves amazing soups and bread during the day but at night, it turns into a night club. The soups and bread are cooked fresh every day with fresh ingredients. Of all the times that I have been there, I have never been disappointed by any of their delicious soups and bread. The bread reminded me of home in Montana where I always made my own homemade bread. The cool thing about this place is that it’s a restaurant by day and a nightclub at night with tasteful or should we say soulful music at night. Another thing that is extremely delighted me was the beautiful paintings hung everywhere by various local artists.
with happy clam goodness. The tomato isn’t chunky most of the time depending on who is making it. A cold winter day sitting at home watching old movies and eating grilled cheese and sipping on tomato soup is one of my favorite things to do. Which the soulful soups tomato soup is the one that type of day should be used for because it’s perfect yummy rich, creamy goodness all around for everyone to enjoy. No matter what your vice for soups is, Soulful Soups are the place to go to satisfy that craving you may be having today or tomorrow. And I assure you they won’t disappoint.
If you are more into nightlife and love small intiWhenever I go, I make sure they have the clam mate gatherings than again check out soulful soups, chowder or tomato because those are my favorites. you won’t be disappointed. The savory tastes of the clam chowder remind me of Seattle. Creamy and rich it just warms your soul 26 | Bella Entertainment | Issue 6
...Recipes Best Grilled
Salmon You’ve ever Tasted
1-3 salmon fillets, depending on size ¼ cup brown sugar 2 Tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp black pepper 2 tsp salt ¼ cup soy sauce ¼ cup olive oil ⅛ cup water 2-3 cloves minced garlic 1. Purchase your salmon as fresh as you can. I prefer the taste of farm-raised to wild caught because I think it tastes less fishy. But don’t buy the frozen fillets if you can avoid it. Put the fish in a plastic bag with all the other ingredients and seal it with as much air pushed out as possible. Marinate for at least an hour, up to three. 2. When you are ready to cook, heat up your grill. Then make a little dish out of aluminum foil with sides. Slide the fish on your ‘dish’ and add a little of the marinade on top. Put the fish skin side down. Then push the whole dish onto the grill. Close the lid and grill for about 20 minutes. After that is done, flip the salmon over onto the grill to sear the top, then you can scrape off the skin (it should lift right off.) Grill for 1-2 minutes and then serve.
This recipe would go great with some wild rice or white rice. If you have some amazing recipe that you would like to share fell free to contact us!

something awesome? Undersin tells us for them it was heartache, pain, and hope for redemption. Heartache has been a known muse for many musicians throughout history, which I feel is what makes music so amazing and really connects fans to a band’s music. Why we have our favorite our favorite artists that we have in our playlists on our Ipads, Iphones or Android devices. Which is a reason why I connected so well with their song, “Are you ok?”. Undersin tells us that most of their songs are created from life experiences. This is where Ex’s come in handy in this department! Joking aside, usually, I go see bands in person before I write about them but I’ve given these guys an exception since they are miles away. I found their music very alternative they reminded me of Seether a lot actually, Undersin’s Vocalist Steven James actually has a very similar sounding voice to Seethers Lead vocalist Shaun Morgan. It took me a bit to place that connection, only cause I was listening to every band that I could think of. When asked if we could ever expect to see Undersin in Spokane, although their answer didn’t give much detail their answer does give us hope for the future of Spokane and Undersin connecting, “Undersin is Everywhere” definitely sounds promising for all of us. Now the only question remains to ask: When will Undersin be rolling into the great City of Spoow, Undersin isn’t a Spokane local but kane? Guess we all will have to wait and see. Saving Abel Cover Feature Band
A Night To Remember

he night was full of energy. The bands were pumped everyone was ready for a great show. The staff was prepared to give their best ever service. Everyone was ready and had been since the show was announced. It was The Palomino’s biggest show since the take over of management by Wendy Jordan and Marc Fechter. I can’t tell you how honored I was to be able to cover the event for not only Bella Entertainment but also for The Palomino as their Events Photographer.
After Kirra’s had set the crowd waited in anticipation, many had already seen Scotty the lead singer walking around in the crowd and some even got pictures with him and his other band mates before they stepped on stage. The tension had been rising more and more as the roadies set up the stage for Saving Abel. Then it was time, the time that everyone was waiting for. The crowd had roared as soon as they stepped foot on stage. People of all ages came to the show and by this time The Palomino was packed. People got as close to the stage as the The night was opened with 37 Street Signs, their security guards would let them and the others who first biggest show to open for. But that is just the place and really interacted my opinion. Their performance with the crowd a lot more than was amazing as always. After most national acts. This night their performance, I was able will never be forgotten by many to catch them in the back as who went myself included they were loading up and asked them how they thought it went. When the band was finished The excitement that came from with their set, the crowd roared all of them was extreme, to say with screams of encore! Encore! the least, and they felt very conEncore! ree the Jester a name that can be yelled into a crowd of people and get an immediate reaction. For a popular band in the Spokane music scene, it comes as a surprise that they only started up two years ago on April 20th of 2014. Like most bands that get their start it usually from sheer boredom and love for music. Cameron states that the idea came from watching Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg from there they decided to get this party started! Their first ever show was Green Fest 2014 from there have only played epic shows one right after the other, the whole band knows how to get a crowd going. The last show that I saw them at was at The Knitting Factory for The Broken Thumbs EP Release. This was the first time for me seeing them live without looking through my camera lens. Normally I don’t realize how pumped a crowd gets because I am so focused on getting that perfect shot. That night was amazing for Free the Jester you could really feel the love and support this community gives to these guys. All of the members of the band come from different musical backgrounds, Zach Vaudreuil the band’s drummer starting in Highschool Sports he knew senior year that he needed a hobby after high school to keep him occupied, so he picked up a set of stix and learned from a Highschool friend who also played drums. From there he took lessons that he paid for and has now been playing drums for 4 years part of which he has been part of Free the Jester for half of that. Some of the members have had years in music and some have not but all of them share the same dream. As known as a party punk band. They hope to bring to Spokane a bigger party that outdoes the last. We all here at Bella Entertainment Magazine are looking forward to seeing that at The Vikings 8th Annual St. Paddy’s Day Pitch-A-Tent Party. Which Free the Jester will be joining The Nixon Rodeo, Elephant Gun Riot, Death by Pirates, Van EPS, Breakdown Blvd., view, Drop Off, Thunderhound and Children of the Sun. You can catch all of that going down the 12th of March at 2 Pm until everyone gets tired and goes home, So I suggest you all come rock your hearts out under the heated party tent. So what does Free the Jester mean, well if you look at the definition Free and Jester you will get your answer. The way I interpret it like this: To free the performer from the rule of the Queen and King so that he may party and rock as hard as he wants to, not how they want them too. We seriously encourage you all to go see this talented band of Spokane that we at Bella Entertainment See Bigger and Better Things from Free the Jester

“Goat Apparently” -NOFX Written by: Cassandra Dhaenens

unks in Drublic... Many of you diehard punk rock fans will immediately think of the NOFX album “Punk in Drublic,” but that’s not what this article is about. This article is about a new upcoming band here in Spokane that has multiple people from many different bands that are very well known to the Spokane scene. Just to name a few Nixon Rodeo, The Broken Thumbs and Coming Alive. many People in the Spokane Scene have been very interested in what Punks in Drublic is all about because of the frontman Brent Forsyth of Nixon Rodeo. If you are not you should be, because this is a band you should check out the next time they play at the many venues in Spokane. The first time I saw them was a few months ago at The Palomino for Thanksgiving Throwdown and for only practicing with each other a couple of times before making their debut on The Palomino stage, I was utterly blown away! If nothing had been said

by Brent that night I would have thought they had been playing for years together. The finesse, utter comfort and confidence shown by all of the members got the crowd and myself pumped to the max for the rest of the show that night. I truly love when I see others helping out their community, Punks in Drublic did just that for the owner of Rated R Tattoo when they played for a Valentine’s Love ’N Special and Food Drive, which helped the food banks they donated to but also helped the owner to stay open. It warms my heart when people in need are helped by those that have the public eye and use that power to do good. The show was epic and I had the pleasure of getting to watch them all get tattoos before the show. Interviewing Punks in Drublic was also a pleasure. I got an understanding into the meaning behind their name from their front man Brent Forsyth. NOFX has a lot of influence on the band Punks in Drublic, but most of all punk rock means a lot to
who they are individually. Brent tells us that “it was an easy choice for the name because it says punks in it.” and that is just what they are, PUNKS. So what can we expect to see from Punks? According to Brent “Spokane can expect a mother fucking punk rock revolution, which is just getting started.” I couldn’t get any quotes on what new shows we can expect to see from Punks in Drublic, but I am very confident no matter where they play it will be epic. I did however get told that if they decide to record they wanna do it on cassette. When asked why cassette, I was told “because we think cassettes are easier to get to each song and the quality is amazing. Plus everyone has a cassette player so it is easy for people to hear our stuff ”. With that being said I personally hope they go that way because how punk would that be? This time I delved deeper into the backgrounds of each individual members of the band. Brent Forsyth you may have seen him in this Band called Nixon Rodeo as the lead singer and guitarist No big deal, am I right? but that’s another story for a later time. So why go from such a big known band in the town of Spokane as well as the northwest in itself to starting up a punk rock DIY cover band? To many it sounds like a huge feat being in two bands especially both of them being demanding at times. The answer that I got from Brent was perfect and exactly what I was expecting. Many play to get famous and to me that tends to loose the luster of a potentially great band. Brent tells us he never wanted to get signed or become a majorly famous he plays for fun, he did however wanted to play music as a career or at least become successful but says on his terms. Brent says the only thing that Nixon Rodeo hasn’t been doing for him musically was allowing him to not play guitar and sing hundreds of old school punk rock songs covering all punk bases. Nixon being original band and Punks in Drublic being a cover band as Brent states “To me I am involved in two bands that can do whatever the fuck we want musically.”
Brent isn’t the only big talent in Punks in Drublic. Braedon Clark former lead guitarist for The Broken Thumbs, has surprised the Spokane music scene by appearing with Punks in Drublic as their drummer. Known for playing guitar in Spokane it was a total surprise for all of us here in the music scene. The question arises why hide it? Braedon tells us that he really didn’t hide it, he just didn’t tell anyone on purpose. He says he wanted to try something new by playing guitar in bands like Eyes Like Time Machines and The Broken Thumbs. Playing drums for Punks in Drublic wasn’t the original plan for Braedon but after Punks drummer didn’t show for practices Braedon took it over and in that moment forgot how much he loved playing punk rock on drums. Braedon tells us that this is where he began in music which he says “It brought me back to my roots after an eclectic journey of music.” Some bands that he started with were, Another Excuse, he went from drums to lead singer in this skate punk band. He first started in Spokane music scene in the Deadones USA. Shawn Fortney Punks lead guitarist other former band Coming Alive, where he also played guitar. Gary Gwinn Punks Bassist plays in Wasted Breath a local punk rock band. Lots of punk up in here! Soon as Bella knows of any shows these punks will be playing at we will surely let you all know or you can also check out and follow their Facebook page for updates.

lot of Buzz has been going on about the Broken Thumbs. So who are they? They are a collective of talented musicians that produce electronic rock, using stylings of different gutiarists in the area, one being Zack Wirchak of The Elephant Gun Riot, Morretta, and Thunder and Lightening. The band consists of Ryan Stocks on drumsm Kelton Allen aka Daethstar as Bandgineer/Backup Vocals and David Arnold lead vocals. They released their new EP with a big bang at the Knitting Factory Febuary 13th. Opening for them that night was Free the Jester, Elephant Gun Riot and Death by Pirates. All of which had joined the Broken Thumbs on certain songs

in the Broken Thumbs set, to sing, play guitar and scream. Even Braedon Clark, Punks in Drublic drummer and former guitarist for the Broken Thumbs, came up on stage and did a small part for their set that he had recorded for them while he was still apart of the band. It was pretty cool to see so many artists coming out on stage to put in their little parts on the Broken Thumbs set. The support by all the locals was amazing that night for such a unique band. The crowd was pumped and the Knitting Factory was packed with so many familar faces. Just great to see the community support. The entire night was amazing. The Broken Thumbs entrance was epic and so was their entire set. I’ve only heard their digital songs on the interwebs, so that night was the first time I’ve them live. I was very impressed. I love seeing bands that sound like their recorded songs. This band definately doesn’t need the help of auto-tune or any vocal alteration one bit. They are a musical powerhouse fueled by creativity. They are not to be reckoned with or compared to any other band in the local scene. So not only did I go to their EP release I also got the pleasure of being on set of their new music video for their song The City Eats. It was pretty awesome to see such an amazing professional like Jon Kuritz © Rebecca Moore (Make Waves Entertainment) in action and to actually see what goes into putting a music video together. Such an awesome crew to work with. I also got a small part in the video! Everything from that night was filmed on top of the Knitting Factory building, which I had no idea they had a parking lot on the roof! Guess that’s what you get for not being a local. Seriously can’t wait to see these guys again live and especially excited to see their new music video release. We haven’t heard any word on when that will be happening, so make sure to follow them on Facebook, to not only show them support but to get the latest on their shows, songs and of course learn when the new music video is hitting the interwebs. We would like to thank the Broken Thumbs for allowing Bella Entertainment to be on set with you guys and to even be in your video we really enjoyed it! ost-Falls natives this band will remind you of a well known Seattle native Nirvana. They started by writting their own individual parts and then coming together to create a song together. They have lost members along the way but have also gained new ones as does any band throughout its history. They tell us that their music is a combination of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr., and the Beattles. I’d say they pulled it off very well and have created a very unique sound, which is what the Spokane local scene needs, uniqueness in every way. It is what makes everything interesting. They have so many different influences which range from Daft Punk, to the dixie chicks to St. Vincent, to that Dog, to Queen to musicals and showtunes but most of all they tell us that if they picked any mold or band to have influenced them, it would be the Beattles. They have genre bended, as well as genre created which is what the Colourflies are trying to do with their music. I say that in itself is an amazing goal to aspire to for a band, Making such a crazy creative music that you end up creating a new genre of music.
The Clourflies have a lot of stuff coming up, They’re excited about and so are we here at Bella Entertainment. Their new album: Been there, Seen it, Lived it, Licensed it; just came out about a month ago and has topped a grand plus in sales. We love to hear when an album becomes popular. Their first single, Jurassic Park! Just went out to radio and has been picked up in four countries. They’re also shooting their first major video with Pulse Productions for their Wacky Tacky. They are also working on songs for a yet to be named EP due on Blackhouse. As well as many other things this year the Colourflies will be headed down to Salem Oregon to go play CCTV for a special half hour in-studio session and interview. They are also headed to Tonasket Barter Fair where they will be heading on May 20th which they are calling it “ Barterpalooza.”

hen I first listened to Odyssey, I thought, wait this isn’t normal. Thank god it isn’t. There are some bands that are progressive, and some bands that marry those things together so well that you don’t even notice they’re in any particular genre. Odyssey is one of those bands. All instrumental with almost a Rush and Primus guitar style, Alex Lifeson and Larry Lalonde respectively and standard time signatures be gone! Odyssey is exactly what I like hearing in progressive music, interesting changes and unique sonic textures, as well as absolutely stellar musicianship in the Dream Theater arena. Now Genesis was a prog band in the early days, so They have something in common with Odyssey, what they don’t have in common, however, is heaviness. Odyssey is heavy in all the right places and if their new album Void doesn’t want to make you play your instrument better from the very opening of Emerge. Evolve. Adapt. To the very end of the title track, Voids, then you’re just not listening. When asked about why the band started Odyssey, they had this to say, “Lukas and Jordan had been attempting to start a band for a few years and finally came across Jerrick at a mutual friend’s birthday party in the summer of 2006. We all jammed together and clicked immediately. We didn’t see
each other for a while but reconnected in late January 2007 and the rest is history.” It seems the lads wanted to start an interesting band and they found a member at a party, which is classic stuff, but it clicked and that’s the best part of forming a band. While forming a band is awesome, Odyssey had this to say about their favorite thing about playing music, “The answer is wide ranging. It can be when we come up with a new riff and can’t help but to smile when we play it. There’s the creative aspect, the process of writing a new song together is a journey. Performing our songs live is always great too, sharing our creations with others and seeing them enjoy the music.” When we listening to Odyssey’s music, we found all pieces to be instrumental. When we asked why this particular trait enamored the band, they elaborated on their songs with no vocals, “Every song we’ve written is Instrumental. It isn’t that we prefer Instrumental over traditional songs with vocals. We listen to both and enjoy both greatly. For us, we wanted to stand out and try something different. Instrumental music allows the listener to create their own storyline, there is no agenda, no message being imparted. When you think about, Instrumental music is all around us every day in film scores, commercials, etc. It’s not uncommon. And stood out they have.
“The answer is wide ranging. It can be when we come up with a new riff and can’t help but to smile when we play it. There’s the creative aspect, the process of writing a new song together is a journey. Performing our songs live is always great too, sharing our creations with others and seeing them enjoy the music.”
